Xenoblade and The Last Story in the US?

Thinsg are real quiet in here!

I'm still plugging along. I'm at about 97 hours and just hit the
Central Factory
. I peeked at a FAQ and it seems I still have a ways to go! I was trying to see if there was a secret to getting into the Bionis Interior (I mean the real part of it with enemies and collectibles, not the small part you go through early on), but it seems like maybe that happens as part of the story later? I'm at a point with Colony 6 reconstruction where I need stuff found only in there and it doesn't seem like I'm anywhere close to it. That seems like a bit of a pacing problem with the game. Meanwhile I'm getting stuff from the area I'm in now that is showing me (through visions) that I need for Colony 6 but isn't anything I need right now. That's why I thought maybe there was a way to get into the other parts of the Interior at this point. Every other part of Colony 6 reconstruction has pretty much followed with each new area I explore - that is, I get the things I need for the next levels in the next area or two from where I am. But not in this case.

Man, it's been like 2 weeks since I last posted and nothing from no one. Broly, you still playing?

I am finally getting near the end. I'm around 110 hours and have just finished
Mechonis Core
. There is a lot of story (ie, cut scenes) and some fairly big twists that happen around that time.

I'm still working on getting the party affinity up (the old-fashioned way by fighting with different combos, doing quests, and a little gifting). I still have a lot to do (5th skill trees, more quests, more Colony 6, and all those tantalizing level 70-99 monsters). I'm at about 76 now myself so I've been able to go back and deal with some of those 75 ones pretty easily. I remember running in terror from those things way way back (like the Gogols and Dark Hoxes on Bionis Leg).

This thread might pick up more now that Last Story is out, I'll be picking up my copy in a few hours, heard it's short though, like only 20 hours. Long as it's 20 quality hours, I'll be cool with that.

Well I haven't gotten the Gamestop automated phone call telling me to pick up my reserved copy of the Last Story.

Honestly, I can wait a little longer since I've waited this long already. Gives me more time to save up money.

Off topic: After I pick up the Last Story, I'll be debating in my mind. Whether or not if I should pre-order/get Borderlands 2 Collector's Edition (Not the Ultimate Loot Edition.) and Kirby's Collection. Borderlands 2 might end up in my backlog as I try to get through it all and I own all the Kirby games, except Kirby's Dream Land 3.

GRRRR. I went to gamestop, they didn't have it. says the are getting it later this afternoon or tomorrow, and I have work this afternoon and errands to run in the morning tomorrow so I probably won't be able to get it til tomorrow evening.

According to XSEED, they said shipments should be expected between the 14th through 16th. Apparently they're one of the few companies these days that uses "release date" as "shipping date" for retailers. :\

Same damn thing happened to me.

So, is The last story supposed to be decent, or is that the one that people are saying isn't any good, or is that the tower game?

I so regret not preordering. It's one thing to check GS stores for extra stock. It's another when the game doesn't have a set release date. Makes it much harder. I wish places other than GS carried this B&M. I won't buy online at this point until I've go no chance to get the first print run that includes the art book.

TLS is a good, if flawed, RPG. I think it's the better game to play if you want an RPG. Pandora's Tower is also good but that's more of a decent Zelda clone with RPG elements, so it's more of an action game.
My newegg order shipped today but since it's coming from CA it will probably get here next week.
Really? I haven't gotten a notice yet... I had to cancel my order and place another order a few days ago because you can't change your shipping address on Newegg. With my luck, my order probably won't get fulfilled.

I'm amazed at shitty their ordering system is after all these years. They've made improvements but just to change the delivery address, I tried chat but they told me to email them. I emailed them and they told me to call. After being on hold for 13 minutes they told me that they can't change the address and that I'd have to cancel/re-order. It takes like 3 clicks on Amazon.:bomb:

Well, it's Mistwalker, and Lost Odyssey was fun but it was also pretty sloppy. And that's what I've heard about The Last Story so far.

Yep and in one day it went from CA to PA so i might get it pretty soon actually.

Ugh, I didn't even mentally make that connection between the games before, though I did know that... I played to about halfway through Lost Odyssey, had fun with it for a while, and then just... stopped. I didn't even really make a conscious decision to stop, I just lost interest and never went back to it. Can't even say specifically why. If I do pick up Last Story, I hope it's better at holding my attention.

You should check Best Buy. Almost all of the stores in my area updated with instore pickup this morning. Plus you'll be eligible for the 10.00 coupon for a future purchase.

TLS should be half as long, thankfully. 20 hours or so is what I'm hearing.

Correct. It's mercifully short considering how bad of a game it is. The length is the ONLY reason I finished it, and even then, I seriously considered quitting a few times.

All of you people complaining that the game is low in stock/backordered: the retailers are doing you a favor. Consider it a sign from God and just don't buy it.

Yeah, I picked mine up at Best Buy too. Art book, but I see no mention of a soundtrack anywhere. Which is confusing because I swore Xseed said "Every launch copy comes with artbook and soundtrack!"

Anyway, I'm going to do what my lovely laptop allows me to do and play this on Dolphin so that I may enjoy 720p glory, and keep my SE sealed.
soundtrack was only amazon and gamestop i think.
I swear Newegg had it on their page too (but that's gone now, supply issues?)
Whatevs... it's cool. It's still a neat looking package for no upcharge.

Does the last story have a club Nintendo code with it?

I figure maybe since it seems xseed published it but Reggie announced so, maybe it could be a third party that has coins with it. Since resident evil revelations ended having coins.

I wish it was like that! From my understanding, Gamestop got the soundtrack. It would be nice if my pre-order from Gamestop comes with an art book as well, when I pick it up later today.

As mentioned in the Club Nintendo Thread by me - No.

Someone had said that Newegg was getting it too. I should find out tonight when it arrives at my house.

My copy from NewEgg has the soundtrack

Ditto. Nice packaging. I wasn't expecting the book-style keepcase.

So am I the only CAG still playing Xenoblade? I'm at the return to
Prison Island
now. I still have a way to go with leveling up to be able to handle some of the monsters I need for items (for Colony 6 reconstruction and some of the 5th skill tree quests). I am in the mid-70's and can handle level 80 or so things now. But some of the things you need to beat are 90-95, and there's multiples (in particular I'm thinking about the quest to get the key for Tephra Cave, which in turn unlocks Sharla's 5th skill tree quest). It is a little annoying because I've maxed out all 4 skill trees for most of the characters and not having something to level up is bugging me - especially when I'm not close to getting those 5th skill trees (esp. in Sharla's case - I do have it already for Shulk and someone else).

I also saw my first monster that was over level 100. It is some Mechon in the initial beach area of Fallen Arm. He's level 105 - yikes!

lol i would order with the wrong card, newegg order didnt go through. heading to GS now, maybe they'll give me the soundtrack without having the preorder.

I got distracted with other games, and ended up leaving Xenoblade behind. I plan on picking it back up again though, since I barely scratched the second half of it.

So Mad and Flicker, did yours have standard book packaging with CD inside, or was it attached externally somehow? I bought mine from Best Buy. Didn't see soundtrack mentioned, but was wondering if it's inside (since I don't intend to open it for awhile as a gift).

It is shrinked-wrapped to thde outside, so you don't have it.

Yeah, pick it back up for sure. I've been so very tempted to move on to other games but I decided I would just finish this off, no excuses. I played Oblivion 95% of the way through and stopped and I vowed I would never do that again. So I'm pushing onwards. It's not like that is such a bad thing to do. The game is still tons of fun and I'm finding new things still and am getting to some really challenging stuff for the first time in a long while. So it still has hooks for me even at 110+ hours!

Question for those who have finished: can you press on and complete the game and then still go back and do quests and Colony 6 stuff? Or do you need to complete all of that before finishing? Of course, I have no idea what the "end" is - I just know that I am finally fairly close. I've come upon several false endings so far and I expect that to continue for a while. The biggest one of course was
Mechonis Core, where you finally get to the bad guy you thought was responsible for everything, only to find out he's not it ;))
.

As for Last Story, even though it would go by in the blink of an eye compared to Xenoblade, I think I'll wait a little longer to pick that up.

Yeah I just wish my copy didn't get partially crushed in the corner during transit. It's okay though since I didn't plan on not opening it for collectors purposes.

Also I didn't get too far into Xenoblade (I think?) but I did put around 40 hours grinding around and doing many of the 300 something side quest. I also got distracted with other games, like finishing up Skyward Sword and Infamous 2 but I'm not going to leave this game unfinished.

FWIW (not much), IGN revised their "Top 25 Wii Games" for 2012 and put Last Story at 10 and Xenoblade Chronicles at 11. I know there's some severe Last Story hate on here (ahem-DoK-ahem) but it must be a really polarizing game for some to hate it so much and for others to consider it top 10 (over not only Xenoblade but Super Paper Mario, Mario Kart Wii, Fire Emblem, and many others).

Personally I'd put Xenoblade not only at the top of the Wii list, but at the top of all games this generation (yes, including PS3 and 360 games). Though it would be a tough choice between Demon/Dark Souls and Xenoblade. Note that I have yet to play IGN's #1 Wii game (Skyward Sword). And I also really can't argue with SMG 2 at #2.

It is good regardless of the exact position that these games are on there though - more recognition for RPGs is always a good thing IMO.

I'm certainly in agreement with your position on Xenoblade. For what it's worth, I thought it was one of the best endings I've seen this generation too.

Just got through unwrapping all that factory sealed plastic

Then I finished the first chapter. It's ok so far, took me awhile to get used to the combat system. At first glance it's like a Xenoblade with cover shooting mechanics.

4 hours in, just some thoughts (no spoilers):

 • Camera is absolutely horrid, unless there's a trick I'm unaware of (maybe I'll max the sensitivity or something).
 • Being unable to see makes it difficult to get around enemies that require you to hit them from the rear.
 • The knockback from your melee attack is pretty obnoxious.
 • Command options, cover system, third-person-shooting, glowing circles of different colors all over the field, huge spell effects, the Gathering technique and the rest I've learned so far -- combine that with the camera and I'm just very uncomfortable with every battle. Yet I'm still winning by just smacking things so, eh.
 • Framerate can get bad, just enhances the feeling of "my god what the hell is happening?"
 • Premise, dialogue, and characters are hilariously cliche so far. They've really done it all by the book.

Despite all this I'm not having a terrible time. Going through the game isn't difficult or anything, and I enjoy the cheesy JRPG exposition anyways because I'm like that. Maybe things will fall into place soon.

And I love everyone's boots, shit is hot.

Also, had to bring this up. In the first 10 minutes when
Syrenne gets shot with the crossbow
, did that strike anyone else as completely ridiculous? Thought it was a dramatic death scene going off his reaction, and then he performs a miracle and no one even questions what just happened. I don't even remember a thank you.

It's a nitpick and I understand they just wanted to introduce a game mechanic, but what a lazy and strange way to do it, you know?
