Xenoblade Chronicles
Wasn't Nintendo selling this game on their website for a time? I thought I remember seeing it there for sale, or have I gone nutty? :(
Yes they did sell it for a shirt time, but you had to buy the bundle that had a CCPro controller with it. The bundle was also $65 I think.

They did sell it, at some point they stopped. I would probably pick this game up, but not for more than $50. Never got around to it before and it isn't at the top of my list now, but I would still get it to play later.

They took it down awhile back (Though you can order a replacement manual for the game still) Sent Nintendo an email a week or so ago when the sequel/thingy was announced.

Hello Gregory,

Thanks for contacting us about Xenoblade Chronicles; it's great to hear that you're such a fan and that you're excited about our upcoming software. To answer your question, we are not expecting to offer more stock of this game for sale on our online store or through our consumer service number. Additionally, as this game was only made available via specific retailers (as you mentioned, GameStop in the United States and EB Games in Canada), it is likely to be difficult to find new. Of course, I'll document your interest in seeing Xenoblade Chronicles become available again. Rest assured that we always appreciate hearing what our fans would like to see from us.
Sincerely,

Karen Johnson
Nintendo of America Inc.

Really? I thought that was an additional type of thing, not the only way to buy it.

haha I had the same person reply to mine when I sent one around the same time.

I could have sworn that they sold the game by itself, in addition to selling it as a bundle with the CCPro.
Wtf.... the used price went up to 59.99 lol. Good old game stop. Probably a good idea on their part TBH.
I saw that. Jerk move, Gamestop. (Business, yes, I know.)

I'll admit, I hate that I let my boycott of GameStop get in the way of this game.
Well, guess people complaining early on about MSRP not being a deal were wrong now. lol
this needs to be saved lol

The game was just $44.99 used last week. Now it's $59.99 used. That's kinda crazy to see a used game jump $15 bucks. I guess we'll be seeing more increases on the harder to find titles with 500-600 stores closing this year.

Gamestop's going under? Where'd you hear that?

It really is unfortunate that a lot of people are going to be out of a job. Generally, less competition is a bad thing too.

On the other hand, good riddance to bad rubbish. This move, if true, really shows how shortsighted the company is. With the release of new consoles imminent, the industry will likely turn around this year. GS would've been in a good position to capitalize on people unloading their 360s and PS3s.

Unless of course the new consoles do indeed prohibit resale of games in which case gamestop is screwed.

That article is written by a Gamestop hater. It's a terrible article. Gamestop is probably seeing a downturn in business, but that article is not exactly a trustable source of information.

I don't think it's going to happen despite persistent rumors. We'll know for sure within a couple months (if not before).
I'm not surprised as my location is saturated with GameStop stores.
I know that by the time GameStop finished buying up all the competition, there were a number of malls with multiple GameStop locations inside, many with 2 inside and 1 outside in a surrounding plaza. I'm assuming that some of this was related to leasing issues where they figured they might break even on locations if they kept them open vs. having to shut down and pay out the lease. Regardless, whoever was doing their development planning...I have no idea what they were thinking. Just because you put a location outside of every Target or Walmart doesn't mean you're going to leach all their business. I think they'd be more profitable if they just concentrated on their larger stores and closed a bunch of these smaller ones. They overextended themselves years ago.

Meh. GS sucks. Their business practices and employees are horrible. Should be interesting what the future holds for gaming.
the new gutted games is really their only major offense that is a legit complaint. that said the fact is people may whine they suck but they clearly make enough money so obviously nobody really gives a crap at least its such a minority its not worth mentioning.

No, it's not. I have plenty of other issues with Gamestop. For one thing, they are shady as hell. Perfect example: I pre-ordered Xenoblade from GS after I learned about the "art book" as a bonus. So around 7PM launch day I go in to pick up my order and they don't give me my book. I ask about it, and oh lord the fight begins. They try to tell me I didn't pre-order soon enough (a lie since I preordered within a week of it being announced) then they tried to tell me they ran out. So I said fine, I want to cancel my pre-order and give me the money back. Then I pulled out my blackberry and told them I was calling the regional manager. At this time they suddenly remember that they have one single artbook left (also a lie, I saw in the shelf when he opened it, they had probably 7 more left) and finally gave it to me. From what I've read on the internet, my store is one of the worse ones, but this is still not an uncommon occurence.

I've also had issues with used games not working. Now I haven't bought any used games this gen, but I did like to buy GC games I missed out on. My copy of Wind Waker I bought from them was scratched and freezes up anytime I enter that house on windmill island (the one where you can break the pots and the guy makes you pay for them). I've had other games just flat out not work past the title screen, and other games that the system doesn't recognize at all. These are all from different stores too, so it's not just one store's problem.

The fact that they open games and still sell them as new shouldn't be tolerated, and would not be tolerated anywhere else. Back when Blockbuster was near me, if they opened a movie but it was never rented (happened a lot the last year or so before they closed), they still didn't try to charge me full price for it, $2 was the maximum.

Need I even mention the incident where they opened up copies of a game (Deus Ex I think it was) to remove coupons? I'm sure you can read up on that online if you don't know about it.

They let employees "borrow" new games to play but still sell them as new.

They ALWAYS ask for my personal information to send me spam and call my phone number no matter what I bought. And they ask me if I want to pre-order 50 different things, half of which for systems I don't even own.
And they signed me up for a Gamestop PUR card when I told them I DID NOT want to sign up.

Trade in rates are just generally low, while almost all their games are overpriced.

And yes, gutted games have been an issue for me too. I don't expect Online Passes or Club Nintendo Points or w/e if I buy a game used, but damnett, if I buy it new I expect every last advert, coupon, and seizure warning to be included.

They spearheaded this fucking "preorder to get in game stuff" bullshit where we now have to preorder at 50 different places if we want the full game launch day. Which in turn has helped DLC as a whole evolve into the scam it is today.

Ever try to order PSN points off their website before? You should recieve the code for your points instantaniously after you check out right? Well, you should, but you don't, last time I tried it took over 24 hours for me to get my PSN points code. By then the sale I wanted the points for in the first place had ended. The morning before I got the code I went through hell trying to get a refund. In the end I not only never got a refund, I never even got an apology from CS. They sure as hell didn't waste time billing my card though, THAT went through instantly without a hitch.

Finally I've had issues with recieving damaged goods, not when I've ordered stuff shipped, but when I've bought in store. Most recently I preordered the collector's edition of Skyward Sword, and low and behold when I go in to pick it up the box looks like shit. And I'm not some picky OCD maniac that depands a perfect box; no, somebody set some heavy shit on this box and virtually flattened it (I still have it, I can post pictures if anyone cares to see). I am ashamed to say that I still took it cause they claimed it was the last one they had, but not before making them open everything to ensure the game case itself was still in pristine condition and that the Wiimote still worked and was scratch free. Of course complaints to customer service and the manager did nothing at all, not even an explanation or an apology. Had I needed to return it I can only imagine the fight that would have ensued.

That's all off the top of my head. Besides the PSN points I mentioned above I haven't bought anything from them in years except the Skyward Sword LE and Xenoblade, and only because they were the only place near me taking pre-orders for both (and the only place you can "instantly" buy PSN point vouchers online). I just got tired of buying GC games that didn't work, and the store altogether.

Gamestop doesn't check if the used games they sell work. That's why you have a week to return it.

Nintendo was doing preorders for $40 for just the game, then went to $50, then stopped. I have no idea why I didn't buy it then.

Ive thought about this...when games become all digital (because eventually games will be all digital...I just dont think anytime soon...), and thus the used game market will be no more, I think Gamestop will just turn to selling old and retro video games. (a sort of retrostop if you will). They will definitely have a HUGE fall when the time comes, but I think there will still be a couple of GS left.

You realize that the only one of these complaints that's about corporate policy is the selling opened games as new, right? The rest of this rant is a) specific to a store b) you should have paid more attention when you looked at the disc (they give you 30 days warranty) or more attention when you were checking out (i.e., why are they charging me an extra $15 and handing me a PUR card), or c) the state of the industry (pre-order in game promos). No one's forcing you to buy gutted games, no one's forcing you to trade in games, it's no one's fault but you bought a scratched disc and didn't take it back within 30 days (I personally won't even take out my credit card until I see the condition of the disc). I'll give you the digital delivery woes...I wouldn't know, I always buy my points at sales events or direct from the source (Sony or Microsoft). But your rant is highly exaggerated...

some of this is just moron employees(cant blame a company for that). several of these complaints have to do with as i mentioned as a legit complaint gutting new copies.

agreed the deus ex thing was wrong.

i've never once received spam texts, phone calls or emails. so i have no idea what happened to you there. but ill just call BS on that considering ive been a PUR member for years.

if you buy used games....CHECK THEM BEFORE YOU PAY. common sense my man. common sense. i never buy used games and not check the disc first. yes i wish they did whatever best buy does but they don't on the other hand they have the best used game selections bar none besides maybe amazon but i cant walk into amazon and browse. so we all know their used game discs are scratched more often than not....so check them before you buy. its not difficult just ask to look at the discs first. of course i know you will say you take good care of your crap but the fact is gamestop gets a ton of damaged games from people trying to pawn of broken stuff. and who knows what you have done to the disc once you got it. and thats sort the other part of the problem.

go read the gamestop trade in threads. its filled with do you think gamestop will take this half broken item or yay i traded in this item that works for 15 minutes at a time then cuts off. they are like a pawn shop. everything gets pawned to them. i'd bet they have to sell used games a bit higher than other places to counter balanced people scamming them with trade ins.

so really gamers that whine endlessly about evil gamestop contribute to its problems. hypocrisy at its finest.

i also love how you admit your store is one of the WORST ones....lol that somewhat tells me the worst store does not represent the entire company.

i do find it odd ive been to various states, various gamestops, and the only problem i've had is new gutted games. my preorders are never canceled, i never don't get my preorder bonus, and i rarely get a non working used game. i don't know but i've never had any terrible gamestop trips.

the bottom line is this is the wal mart of game stores. people go there either way and nothing has changed that. they do need to change their policies on some things no doubt and certainly a disc resurfacing machine like best buy would be fantastic. but i cant see them going anywhere. like one of the other posters said i suspect they are downsizing more than anything because their are malls with three gamestops from when they bought out the competition so i'd suspect they'd be making those malls have only one store.

I can't help but think if Gamestop just cared about their business , they probably would not be closing stores. Their business practices indicate that the executive level has no idea what gamers want.

I want to buy used games with cases and manuals.
I want to buy games that are not scratched up. (Ironically they try to sell me scratch protection on scratched games).
Employees should be treat employees fairly and provide them some customer service training.
Too many times I go into a store and the employees are playing loud music and talking to each other, ignoring customers. They openly curse/swear in front of customers. It does not matter if children are in the store , they will drop an F Bomb.

Selling opened games as new is a complete joke. Their management should be ashamed. When I buy a new suit or new sneakers, I don't expect a store employee to "try it out first" and then sell it to me as new. New is new (factory sealed) period. If it's open then it is no longer new.

Finally they phase out older systems like PS2 /Gamecube because they have no room for inventory. That's total BS, because the stores have racks of empty "coming soon" game cases - where merchandise should be. There is still a market and money to be made with the older games.

I typically just stay away from Gamestop for these reasons and I only shop there if there is no other option.

It's a poorly run company that will become the next Block buster in the next few years..

True story: I own about 60 PS2 games before owning an actual PS2. I figured the games at affordable prices are going to disappear from Gamestop faster than the PS2 consoles themselves *still sees Gamecube consoles for sale even though they haven't sold a Gamecube game for months-year*

Thats the least valuble of the 3 G.U//'s but still a good find, try 3 Redemption's, two Rebirth's three Remin's and two quarantine's. One of the quarantine CIB minus dvd, one rebirth CIB and two remin's CIB, the 3 redemption's are disc only but theres one nearby for $40 CIB at a local game store if I want it.

I just hooked up my old PS2 and Gamecube over the weekend. GC because we upgraded the Wii to a Wii U which dumps the GC compatibility. Good to know the ol' black box still works great. :)

PS2 because my fat PS3 is a brick and the slim has no BC. Argh. :(

From my Gamestop hunts .hack-wise I got:

2x Mutation - Disc onlies
2x Outbreak - Disc onlies
1x Quarantine - COMPLETE YEAH
1x Rebirth - Missing manual
3x Reminence - Disc onlies
2x Redemption - 1 Missing Manual and 1 disc only

Those are how I originally got the from Gamestop. I have since then gotten replacement items as neccessary (.hack Infection was bought complete from the local Game store next to Gamestop). I now just need Outbreak's DVD bonus and Redemption's manual. It's pretty ironic how the only .hack I was able to get complete from Gamestop was the most sought after .hack game.

We're technically still on the topic of sweet RPGs ;) But yeah I don't have too many issues with Gamestop as a whole. My game collection certainly wouldn't be as big if not for how widespread they are and how low their prices are on more niche stuff.
Wish I still had my PS2... those were some sweet game!
Fixed it.

I played through 2 of those games. I really liked the first one, barely got to the end of the 2nd one because it was like replaying the first game. I couldn't bring myself check out the next one.

Fine, if you want to be technical it's 2 games... the original and the GU series.

Someone mentioned they got it off Gamefly as a 'keep'. However, I don't see that link enabled for the game in my queue.

Halp! I wanted to buy if off them through this method.

Wonder what happens if you rent it then say you lost it? They charge you the $50 MSRP?

I was wondering the same myself.

I'd just be afraid of them actually charging you the eBay value, or somehow them complaining to your credit card company (not sure if this is possible) if you do it a lot.

What about that extra disc that came with the collector edition of Rebirth? You need that....now I'm being a jerk by making you work harder to hunt extra stuff down :p
If you guys want to discuss fraud, stick to PM's.
I didn't suggest he did it. I asked what their policy was. I already have my copy and have been posting all copies that show up from gamestop in this thread for the benefit of everyone else looking for one.

haha I remember thinking for the longest time of picking up another copy of xenoblade when it first came out just to keep it sealed for the collection. this is what I get for procrastinating - not only are new copies non existent, but used copies are now almost non existent.

Edit: jeeeeeez....used copies are now 59.99?? I swear it was 44.99 just yesterday...GS cranked up the price...

I bought this as a "keep from Gamefly for $60 then cancelled my free trial. It looks like they recently took away the ability to keep the game though since I posted earlier.
