No, it's not. I have plenty of other issues with Gamestop. For one thing, they are shady as hell. Perfect example: I pre-ordered Xenoblade from GS after I learned about the "art book" as a bonus. So around 7PM launch day I go in to pick up my order and they don't give me my book. I ask about it, and oh lord the fight begins. They try to tell me I didn't pre-order soon enough (a lie since I preordered within a week of it being announced) then they tried to tell me they ran out. So I said fine, I want to cancel my pre-order and give me the money back. Then I pulled out my blackberry and told them I was calling the regional manager. At this time they suddenly remember that they have one single artbook left (also a lie, I saw in the shelf when he opened it, they had probably 7 more left) and finally gave it to me. From what I've read on the internet, my store is one of the worse ones, but this is still not an uncommon occurence.
I've also had issues with used games not working. Now I haven't bought any used games this gen, but I did like to buy GC games I missed out on. My copy of Wind Waker I bought from them was scratched and freezes up anytime I enter that house on windmill island (the one where you can break the pots and the guy makes you pay for them). I've had other games just flat out not work past the title screen, and other games that the system doesn't recognize at all. These are all from different stores too, so it's not just one store's problem.
The fact that they open games and still sell them as new shouldn't be tolerated, and would not be tolerated anywhere else. Back when Blockbuster was near me, if they opened a movie but it was never rented (happened a lot the last year or so before they closed), they still didn't try to charge me full price for it, $2 was the maximum.
Need I even mention the incident where they opened up copies of a game (Deus Ex I think it was) to remove coupons? I'm sure you can read up on that online if you don't know about it.
They let employees "borrow" new games to play but still sell them as new.
They ALWAYS ask for my personal information to send me spam and call my phone number no matter what I bought. And they ask me if I want to pre-order 50 different things, half of which for systems I don't even own.
And they signed me up for a Gamestop PUR card when I told them I DID NOT want to sign up.
Trade in rates are just generally low, while almost all their games are overpriced.
And yes, gutted games have been an issue for me too. I don't expect Online Passes or Club Nintendo Points or w/e if I buy a game used, but damnett, if I buy it new I expect every last advert, coupon, and seizure warning to be included.
They spearheaded this

ing "preorder to get in game stuff" bullshit where we now have to preorder at 50 different places if we want the full game launch day. Which in turn has helped DLC as a whole evolve into the scam it is today.
Ever try to order PSN points off their website before? You should recieve the code for your points instantaniously after you check out right? Well, you should, but you don't, last time I tried it took over 24 hours for me to get my PSN points code. By then the sale I wanted the points for in the first place had ended. The morning before I got the code I went through hell trying to get a refund. In the end I not only never got a refund, I never even got an apology from CS. They sure as hell didn't waste time billing my card though, THAT went through instantly without a hitch.
Finally I've had issues with recieving damaged goods, not when I've ordered stuff shipped, but when I've bought in store. Most recently I preordered the collector's edition of Skyward Sword, and low and behold when I go in to pick it up the box looks like shit. And I'm not some picky OCD maniac that depands a perfect box; no, somebody set some heavy shit on this box and virtually flattened it (I still have it, I can post pictures if anyone cares to see). I am ashamed to say that I still took it cause they claimed it was the last one they had, but not before making them open everything to ensure the game case itself was still in pristine condition and that the Wiimote still worked and was scratch free. Of course complaints to customer service and the manager did nothing at all, not even an explanation or an apology. Had I needed to return it I can only imagine the fight that would have ensued.
That's all off the top of my head. Besides the PSN points I mentioned above I haven't bought anything from them in years except the Skyward Sword LE and Xenoblade, and only because they were the only place near me taking pre-orders for both (and the only place you can "instantly" buy PSN point vouchers online). I just got tired of buying GC games that didn't work, and the store altogether.
some of this is just moron employees(cant blame a company for that). several of these complaints have to do with as i mentioned as a legit complaint gutting new copies.
agreed the deus ex thing was wrong.
i've never once received spam texts, phone calls or emails. so i have no idea what happened to you there. but ill just call BS on that considering ive been a PUR member for years.
if you buy used games....CHECK THEM BEFORE YOU PAY. common sense my man. common sense. i never buy used games and not check the disc first. yes i wish they did whatever best buy does but they don't on the other hand they have the best used game selections bar none besides maybe amazon but i cant walk into amazon and browse. so we all know their used game discs are scratched more often than not....so check them before you buy. its not difficult just ask to look at the discs first. of course i know you will say you take good care of your crap but the fact is gamestop gets a ton of damaged games from people trying to pawn of broken stuff. and who knows what you have done to the disc once you got it. and thats sort the other part of the problem.
go read the gamestop trade in threads. its filled with do you think gamestop will take this half broken item or yay i traded in this item that works for 15 minutes at a time then cuts off. they are like a pawn shop. everything gets pawned to them. i'd bet they have to sell used games a bit higher than other places to counter balanced people scamming them with trade ins.
so really gamers that whine endlessly about evil gamestop contribute to its problems. hypocrisy at its finest.
i also love how you admit your store is one of the WORST ones....lol that somewhat tells me the worst store does not represent the entire company.
i do find it odd ive been to various states, various gamestops, and the only problem i've had is new gutted games. my preorders are never canceled, i never don't get my preorder bonus, and i rarely get a non working used game. i don't know but i've never had any terrible gamestop trips.
the bottom line is this is the wal mart of game stores. people go there either way and nothing has changed that. they do need to change their policies on some things no doubt and certainly a disc resurfacing machine like best buy would be fantastic. but i cant see them going anywhere. like one of the other posters said i suspect they are downsizing more than anything because their are malls with three gamestops from when they bought out the competition so i'd suspect they'd be making those malls have only one store.
