Yakuza 3 comes West, Right now!

so I talked to this one person who claims that the DLC (both the battle and challenge pack) unlock those side missions that are missing. He says that there are no cut side missions. I don't know if this is true (and honestly I hardly ever believe anything this person says) but maybe, just maybe he's telling the truth this one time.

For people that have played or are playing and noticing the missing stuff, have they already installed all the dlc?

I installed both DLC (1 on GameStop receipt, 1 packed in game on a card) and Mahjong and Shogi are definitely cut. You can go into the room, but the host won't talk to you, so you cannot play.

Don't know about the other stuff b/c I'm only on like Ch. 4 or something.

BTW- if GS person forgot to give you the DLC and your $5 off, you can return w/your receipt and they can give it to you. I just called, then stopped by yesterday and got them.

cool! that's good that GS is still giving the $5 off!

Just got my Yakuza 3 game today!! woot woot! I'm gonna play it all weekend long XD (after finishing yakuza 2 XD )

^^ Cool :D

I was up till 5 AM last night playing; definitely getting into the game now. It's good that you can go to downtown Okinawa (forgot the city name) and grind & level up, because I definitely suck at fighting.

The graphics, physics, and game mechanics aren't quite AAA, but the story, depth, and RPG/3rd-Person-action-blend game mechanic definitely makes up for any deficiencies.

I'm glad I took a chance on this game, even though I never played the 1st two :)

Yeah, the card packed inside the box looks identical to the instruction manual, except it's a single piece of paper (at first I thought my box didn't have the DLC until I realized that).

Beat the game last night. I was at 21 hours but 4.71% complete. That's the main reason I don't care about the cuts :p

Already started my second playthrough. Great game.

Just finished. 21 hours played 13.80% completed. People make it out like the cuts took away the entire game. There's still a lot to explore and do. I hope Yakuza 4 comes out in America though the chances of that ride solely on this. Heavy Rain sold well without advertising. CAN SEGA GOPHER BROKE?

I can't believe you guys beat the game already. I'm still on Ch. 4, and I've been playing for at least 10 hours. Got most of the locker keys, did a bunch of sub stories.

Holy crap, getting a tuna is a pain!

Except in the game, you can sell them for 100,000¥ :D
Except in the game, you can sell them for 100,000¥ :D
You can sell em for that much in real life too. It's just the police man is adept to throw you in jail.

Really? I didn't think catching a tuna was really that tough. I usually just check the deep waters. I've caught around 4-5 of them so far. After I understood the fishing minigame, its actually pretty easy.

But something I think is really challenging is Koi Koi. Even though I read the rules thoroughly I have no idea what's going on! The other game in that gambling room besides cee-lo (forgot the name) is sorta like blackjack.... Only its not, is actually very interesting. But I still end up going tagless in that room!

So I've hit the "motherfuck!" point in this game, like the two before it.

There's no learning curve, it's a learning mesa. Chapters 1/2 were cake, but I had the fuckin' most awful time trying to defeat the level 3 'boss'.

I tend to treat this game like a button masher (and wish it was one), but that doesn't get me very far, obviously. What are some strategies for playing these guys and not getting my ass handed to me?

My strategy: food, energy drinks, and weapons.

Also, I think the hard part is that there's no lock-on. You have to hold the R1 button and the L1 button to face and block your opponent at the same time. Then, to make matters worse, you have to hit the X button and push the left analog in the opposite direction.

Too many freaking buttons to fight effectively (for me at least).

I'm just trying to level up my guy and buy weapons so I don't get stuck.

I had to cheat and find out how the hell to get a tuna. I needed one for
that guy who sold the fish to the wrong person. I pocketed the 200,000¥ and traded the guy a tuna for it
.

So yeah, you have to get the fish that's around 140 - 150 meters away, and use shrimp. I guess it's because I didn't read well enough how to fish, so I didn't realize that you have to swing the pole left to right, going the same direction as the fish. Even though I figured out how to do it, I'd get the fish up to like > 40 meters and my line would break. Super duper frustrating.

Yeah, and poi poi is a fricking pain, and I don't know why my pairs don't get those big pints like my opponent.

I also had to cheat to get the damned dog-lion.

Anyway, the game is fun, I'm going to finish it come hell or high water.

Im only on chapter 2, but I remember in the old games I relied a lot on the health energy drinks, though I also used a lot of lock-on and "shifting". The lock-on mechanic didn't seem that different to me, but maybe Im just not far enough in the new game to notice. From my understanding the reversals have gotten a bit easier to time, so you may want to look into those. With a lot of the bosses in the previous games they usually use a set pattern for their attacks and you just have to shift out of the way or block until you get an opening.

After realizing that the "dating" portion of this game is so gimped compared to Yakuza 2, I can finally understand the anger of removing the cabaret clubs. Hopefully, it'll get included in Yakuza 4 should it get released overseas.

I've tried going for the tuna several times, but it ultimately results in me getting tunnel vision because I'm focusing too hard so I've given up.

So this is what it feels like to get old...

Oh yeah! I love free money.
I was thinking that I would have to beat the chef's ass to get the fish, and just keep the money. Just happened to have a tuna in my inventory and gave it to him.

I think I've caught a tuna with just using a worm.
Its in the yard of the orphanage on the left side by the slide.
And speaking of fishing, always check the beach for things that washed up shore. You'll never know what you'll find, even if its trash ;)

I do the shifting once in a while, but I'm not as competent at it as I am with the God of War style fighting. Hopefully something will click and I'll get better.

Just move right or left with the analog stick (9 o'clock and 3 o'clock) to match the same direction as the fish; only reel in when it's green or yellow. Don't try to push up and left or up and right (11 o'clock, 1 o'clock).

If the bar starts to go red, make sure you're pushing in the same direction as the fish, and stop reeling in until the bar goes back to green. In an emergency, switch from R1 (reel in) to L1 (let out some slack on the line) to give yourself a few seconds to get back into the rhythm.

It took me over 24 times and google to figure this out :bomb:

PS, I'm going to be 34 in 2 months, and I'm still able to do it :D

Having trouble getting the key on top of the lockers in Ryukyu. Tried using R3 mode, and it just said "I should take a closer look." Moving up to the lockers only seems to give me an option to open the lockers.

I just went closer and hit R3 again, then zoomed in and hit X.

BTW, who is the "boss" in ch. 3? I just got to ch. 4 and I haven't had a problem so far...

That would be Tamashiro. The guy holding Nakahara's 'daughter' ransom.

I think I'm on chapter 5 or 6. I just keep getting sidetracked. Just so much to do in that game! I'm currently in the middle of the
HLA Hitman
missions.
The yakuza couple, that's not really a couple
was a bitch. I remembered I had two different kinds of bullet proof vests and that solved that problem.

And perhaps you age slower than the rest of us. ;)

My copies of Yakuza 3 + 4 arrive tomorrow. Until then I'll just continue playing the Yakuza 4 demo.

I *really* (*REALLY*) liked the story in this game. It was told exceptionally well. Ok, there were some really melodramatic/saccharine moments (
Hey Mine, shut the fuck up and jump already!
)

I'm so glad this game was released in the US - there's close to 80-100 hours of content in here even without what Sega cut. If you're on the fence, you need to get it and let Sega know that there is an interested fanbase in the US.

Tried some ultimate trials today. finished the melee ones, but I don't know that I'll ever beat them all. Holy crap - but in the sense that they're challenging, not impossible or frustrating. That's the mark of a great game.

Also, just to add to what Myke said, you can get through the main story of the game in around 20 or so hours; if you want to do all the side missions and stuff it's well over 100 hours.

If you like RPGs, open world sandbox games, and 3rd person brawlers, then this game is a blend of all three. You will probably enjoy this game.

If you do buy the game and enjoy it, please send a letter to Sega and let them know--especially if you're new to the series (like me). If enough new folks buy the game, maybe Sega will bring the 4th game here and actually put serious advertising around the game.

Sega of America, 350 Rhode Island Street, Suite 400, San Francisco, CA 94103.

A great thing that about this game is that most of the side missions have mostly unique stories. I have not been getting any sleep all weekend because I finish a side quest and, every time I think about going to bed, I want to do just one more. I've been up to 5AM Friday/Saturday morning and this morning playing this game.

There are also minigames peppered throughout the city, you can go in and play them almost any time you want. They're not as great as a full-fledged game; for example, bowling, it has a weird game mechanic, unlike many bowling games I've played. At first, these things are frustrating, but then you realize that you have to try to beat it.

The best thing about this game is the story. Yeah, graphically and mechanically, the game is not a AAA game. The developers probably had to be a little light on the graphics and such so they could get all the story and all of the side-quests into the game. So if you don't go into this game looking for another Uncharted 2 or God of War 3 (graphically), you won't be disappointed. The real thing that makes this game great is the story and the quirkiness of it.

I really hope you buy this game if you have the ability to buy it. This franchise really does deserve to be as big of a hit as GTA IV or inFAMOUS.

I put about 10 hours into Deadly Premonition before playing Yakuza 3. Yeah, Y3 could be better looking for a PS3 game, but it's nowhere near as bad as DP is graphically.

^ No, by all means, Yakuza 3 doesn't have crappy graphics. It actually has pretty good graphics--just not mind-blowing like Uncharted 2 or FF XIII. The graphics are good, but it's not going to win any awards.

^Hey jh6269! I'm glad to see you've become a Yakuza fan XD Welcome to the club!

I've been playing the game the past few days and it's been hella fun. I was disappointed with the cuts at first but after playing, to hell with those cuts. Game is just freaking awesome. There really is lots to do. As a fan, who played and bought both the original two, I'm telling all of you who decided to not get it, GET IT!! It's still a superb game!

Now with that out, one thing that I disliked about the beginning of the story was how they dealt with
the relationship between Sayama and Kiryu. I had wondered where'd she go (after watching many trailers of Y3 and never seeing her around). So I was disappointed with that poor break up! Seemed too soon especially after the whole dramatic they might die scene. Oh well. Kazuma is single again XD.... so far (I'm only in Chapter 4. =O )

Also I think Akiyama in Y4 may replace Kazuma as my fav character >.< He was just too cool XD Hopefully we get Y4. If not, I'm definitely importing it (as soon as it gets a bit cheaper XD )

Yeah, if it wasn't for PA's major discount awhile back on the Yakuze 3 + 4 bundle, I would not have gotten them. EMS still hurts though, but I don't mind because I know the gameplay will no doubt make it all worth it.

yeah Ima just wait for the Best version. Just wanted to say I loved this game. This is the most fun I've had in a long time. I actually thought this game was more fun than God of War 3.

Thanks :) I'm a sucker for a well told story; they got me hooked. I'm about 40 hours in and at chapter 8 I believe.

Oh, and about the beginning of the story:
Sayama said she's going to train in the USA and come back to be w/Kazuma... Not exactly a breakup.

Kazuma is just a badass, he's by far my favorite.

Well, keep in mind
she said that her and Kazuma's paths would split for a little while and that she'd come back and they could be together again.... I guess that's why he's not getting serious with any of the chicks in the Smile Burger or the other restaurant LOL He just shags them and they make up some excuse that they have to leave town LOL

Yeah, I was pretty hooked on fishing but now I'm trying to get that 10 million yen. I got 8 million now. I've already found 2 black jack tokens and used them, so I dunno how I'm going to get the last 2 mil.

I would love to play Yakuza 2, but my PS3 is non-BC :( Maybe if the rumors are true, and they finally add BC back in, I'll play it.

About dating and Kaoru Sayama
When you finish dating all the girls, Kaoru Sayama will send you a text saying that you are a ladies man and give you a special gift.

I am following the guide on Gamefaqs to make sure I do not miss any side missions and need to finish the bowling one so if anyone has any tips for that minigame, it would be appreciated. I am trying to finish all the side missions as they are assigned before I move onto the next chapter and I would really like to move onto Chapter 6.

What I do in the bowling minigame is have the ball almost all the way to the left (but not quite). have the ball pointing a bit past the front pin, around half power and one or two presses of the left for some spin. After playing around with that, I usually get nothing but strikes.

Thats basically what I did, only I used full power. I think the key is to have it go diagonal across the lane, with some spin pulling it back towards the side you threw from.

I actually managed to get the Turkey the first time I played against Haruka. I think it is because I use the same method in Wii Bowling since I can never keep my wrist locked on my follow through.

okay then! Sayama is still in da picture! XD (I guess I misread the situation and thought it was a final goodbye even with her saying she'd come back. >.< I assumed it was a sweet lie >.> )Really, she's like the only woman I can see paired up with Kazuma. (asides from his childhood love)

aww I c! well hopefully they add BC or a downloadable version. Y2 is awesome XD

btw for those playing the bowling, is it the same as Y2? it was pretty hard on Y2. damn thing went to fast >.

For the bowling minigame, to get the turkey, I just tried to hit the pins like you would in real bowling--hit right inside the 1 & 3 pin or the 1 & 2 pin.

If my aim wasn't spot-on, I'd put some spin on the ball to make it hit right.

Is that what you guys are talking about? Getting the turkey?

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I was thinking about picking this up soon. Question is, though, how important is it to go through Yakuza 1 & 2 before jumping into this one?

Both are sort of in a state I like to call 'terminal backlog' and I was just curious as to whether I need to dust them off before or after I pick up 3.
