Yay! 2K Football is back!

Worst.Kept.Secret.EVER.

But hey, have fun playing as the Alabama Mudflaps or Danbury Fighting Crabcakes.

Although, if it has a playable Gale Sayers, I'm buying it day 1.

O RLY?
O RLY?
Isn't that what CheapAssGaming is all about, purchasing a $50 add on to fully enjoy 1 game.

Of course, this will all come off as me being an EA fanboy/apologist, but to those of you creaming your pants in excitement, you need to settle down. First off, you don't even know if the game is gonna have the same engine as 2K5, you just assume so. What if it's another Blitz style arcade game? Maybe you should hold some of your enthusiasm for when you know more about the game, other than the fact that it exists.

I was just pointing out the fact, that it is possible.

I'm not creaming my pants. Without the NFL license it could be shit. With a shitty engine, it could be shit. I'm just hoping it turns out fan-fucking-tastic like 2K5.

Hopefully they will release it at a budget price (even $39.99 would be lower for a next gen game) to get people to buy it and gave the game a chance like how NFL 2K5's $19.99 MSRP got people to give the series a chance

It's good that 2K is returning with a football game but do we really need another football game right now. Without the NFL license it's kind of hard to get excited for this. And with Blitz you already have an arcade football game. Hopefully it turns out well but for me Madden is still the way to go because of the NFL license.

Great news since 2k5 was sweet. By the way, does anyone know how many more years are left on EA's contract with the NFL License?
I'm pretty sure it won't have the same engine, though I'm not surprised you might have that notion if you're a EA player.
Doesn't it stand to reason I would assume everyone thinks it's gonna have the same, or close to the same enginge, as 2K5? I mean, that's why everyone is excited right, because they liked 2K5? Would they be just as excited if, in this story, they interview a developer, and he says "It will play nothing like NFL 2K5."

The chances of that happening are slim to none.

VC are known for their realistic approach to sports.

It's as if when the new Blitz is announced you go "WELL WHY ARE YOU EXCITED FOR THIS GAME IT"S PROBABLY GONNA BE A TOTAL REALISM SIMULATOR"

Lets hope this turns out to be a quality product and puts a little fire under EA's ass for the shit they've been turning out on their Next Gen games. Even if it only has NFL rosters through user created downloads, it's better than the horrible Madden. (NCAA is a little better)

I do believe someone with an avatar such as your should probably not talk about football.

Somebody on gamespot suggested having the CFL on this game. Hey, I can play as Ricky Williams. Thats all I need!

YES ANOTHER RICKY FAN!!!!

too late for that... he better be a dolphin next year!

This game brings to light something that I have never understood - how does haing actual NFL players and teams in a game make it better? I'd like to argue that they actually make the game worse. Case in point Madden - year after year people pay full price and reward minimal innovation just to have the latest rosters. A game with fantasy teams and players can't rely on roster updated to sell the game so they have to do something new to sell the game. If 2K wants to release an '09, '10, & '11 version of this they will need to do something new every year. Maybe I'm wrong and having the correct name on a player's jersey is more important than innovation, I don't know.

LMAO at VanillaGorilla posting over and over in this thread...do you feel threatened or something? I've never seen someone so flustered over something they are so dismissive of.

This is good news, there is no downside to it.

The year is so young, yet this might be the best gaming news of the year.

When the 2k series died, so did my interest in football games.

Blitz was fun for a few days, then wore off.
EA Madden is pure garbage in terms of anything, except for Wii Madden which is pretty good.

Now that the true KING is back, fuck Madden.
I do believe someone with an avatar such as your should probably not talk about football.
And someone with a signature such as yours probably shouldn't talk about hairstyles.

But seriously, avatars don't mean $hit. I probably know more about football than 99% of this board.
Case in point Madden - year after year people pay full price and reward minimal innovation just to have the latest rosters.
Yeah, well that's just Madden. Everyone knows it fucking sucks.

It's good news for the 2k fans, though I never saw the appeal. It'll be interesting to see the final results.

I can't wait for Madden 08 on the Wii though.

doesn't madden lose there exclusivity next year?

It was at least a five-year contract, I believe, and we're only two years in. There was an article somewhere at least semi-legit within the last few months speculating that 'the inside buzz' is that the NFL is not happy with how EA has handled the license, but I'm not getting excited about any possibilities yet, because of two things: one, EA will most likely incrementally improve Madden to the appropriate point where the NFL deems it 'acceptable', and two, MONEY.

Besides, even if a change is a-comin', we're looking at the end of the decade at the earliest.

P.S. I wonder if 2K will price this at a CAG-friendly $39.99 to undercut EA yet again.

They can crap out a "arcade-like" game and it will still be not only better than anything Madden can do, but probably more sim-like too

I wouldn't get my hopes up about the game coming out yet, as I'm sure EA is drafting up 1,000s of ways to stop it from coming out.

No, it will, because they can't. Blitz proved this just recently.

You can like whatever you want, but the numbers don't lie.

As for the guy who asked about the EA/NFL deal, it goes through 2010, and according to the recent Game Informer article about EA losing it's touch (which is completely true), both parties seem to be happy with the deal, as they are both making money hand-over-fist.

Look, I'm not saying this isn't good news. It's great news, if the game does feature the old school players that it's been rumored to have. I just think that people shouldn't get there hopes up on this series battling Madden for years to come, and in turn, forcing the only NFL game in town to step up its game. Does anyone honestly think a non-licensed football game is gonna sell enough copies to warrant 2K sticking with it for the long haul? Sure, 2K5 sold pretty damn well, but that's because it had a $20 price point, and people could buy both games if they wanted to. But with the next generation here, how many casual sports fans (the type EA makes the most money off of) are gonna spend $60 on a game filled with generic teams and (possibly) generic players, when they could buy the new Madden game for the same price, which they probably buy every year?

Short Answer: ME. Long answer: ALOT OF PEOPLE.

Enough people are fed up with Madden and its pathetic excuse for a 'sim' football game. They are sick of paying $60 bones a year for a minor upgrade and I bet you that 2K puts this game out at $50 or $40 and it sells a shitload and it will sell. Winning Eleven is a GREAT example. They dont have a MLS deal and every year it comes out and every year someone uploads all the rosters and we all use it. So i think its pretty naive of you to think that it wont happen here.

Anyone who has played football 1 day in there life knows that madden is a sorry excuse for football.

I am excited about the return of 2K football. Sucks it won't be NFL licensed though.

I know it has to be better than Blitz: The League.......I hope.
I can't wait for 2k to come back so we can have a quality football game again.
The license means shit to me really. The only reason I would care is that I can play as the New York Giants, but otherwise it still isn't worth it because the game plays like crap.
Yeah, well that's just Madden. Everyone knows it fucking sucks.
I'm sure that within days of this being released, someone will have loaded onto the net with instructions of installations for character customization ;) etc.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
EA used to have "touch"?
Very few and far between. Out of all of the "big-wig" Video Game companies they were always the least one I liked and the one that had to always gobble up other companies just to perform. Ubisoft (Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil, XIII, Rainbow Six Vegas, etc), Activision (especially Activision because they put out consistent quality games) etc.

YES WE DO!
YES WE DO!
It's just going to be a hard sell without the license. I don't like to compare this to something like Blitz but that game even dropped to $29.99 in a couple months. Don't get me wrong I was a fan the 2K franchise since 2K on Dreamcast but this is going ot be a tough sell for people. Madden sold really well this year and they better put this game out cheaper then $59.99. Besides I agree EA doesn't put much effort into upgrading Madden every year but 07 was a lot better than 06 for 360. And personally I think it's a pretty good sim just 2K was a better game. But again without the license to me it's kind of worthless to have another sim on the market.
