It is far from it. I don't even play it online, I love the bot matches as they are. Plus, with all of the add-ons you can find online, you can add brand new game modes (including a 2D mode), dozens of new characters, hundreds of new levels, new mutators, etc. All for free. This alone makes the game worth play non-stop for endless hours...even if it is just against bots.
