You guys all remember that WWE Smackdown 06 load time video?
I'm really starting to hate the PSP, I pretty much only use it for an mp3 player now.
That sucks I use it to play games!

Don't hate the hardware, hate the developers.
GripShift looks like one bad ass game.
It is, and its cheap. Everyone that has a psp should give this game a shot.

I got rid of SD vs Raw literally the next day for that very reason. The fact that they admit it takes longer for a created wrestler killed it completely for me since I only play with a created character.

lol.. i always feel so crappy thinking I bought a PSP at one time.. at least i sold it for a decent amount..

The publishers of Gripshift should be paying the maker of that vid, because it's perhaps the best advertising the game will ever get.
The publishers of Gripshift should be paying the maker of that vid, because it's perhaps the best advertising the game will ever get.
That's what I was thinking. I was also wondering how in hell that wrestling game ever made it to market.

I have wondered why the guy that made the Smackdown went to the season mode to test the time instead of just going to a normal match, it would take much less time since there's no cutscenes or shit before getting to a match.

I'll be checking out gripshift now, I always thought it was one of those crappy budget games since its always bundled at fry's with another game.

You can tell that it would still have taken an unreasonable amount of time to load straight into a match.

I am now very very conscious of what games I buy for the PSP based on load times. All the developers should take notes on gripshift, daxter, syphon filter, hot shots and the like. It's obvious that load times can be short and its obvious that WWE is totally unacceptable.

Sure, but you have to know that it wouldn't be over 6 minutes. It's like if he went through the franchise mode of any sports game instead of going through exhibition to get to a game. It just seems like he ignored the obvious quickest route to gameplay to make his point.

So, was the smackdown part someone just getting into a regular season match, or starting a new season? Hard to judge, but if that is the length of time it takes in between matches, that's poor. This is why I got rid of Ys yesterday. It was a good game, but the loading killed my fun. I'm really going to be cautious about loading now.

It seems like the better games have shorter load times.. funny how that works.

Me too!

Eh..Smackdown vs. Raw 06 is one of the better PSP titles. Of all my PSP games, that is the one i've had the longest. I've only recently bought Daxter and Winning Eleven 9..but before then the games on the PSP weren't so hot. But yeah, Smackdown's load times are atrocious whether going through season mode or not. You hit about 20 load screens for one match. Still a fun game though

I believe he's starting a new season, which adds to the load times even more. It'd have been a more valid video if he went to an exhibition match instead of starting a new season.

The point wouldn't be as funny and the video wouldn't be as long. ;-)
For those of you who don't remember:

Anyway, i just came across this video showing a response to that video on the load times for Gripshift(which is an awesome game IMO).

That's pretty fucking hilarious. They should have used a longer song for the video though instead of the old Benny Hill standby (though it is funny - but they have to repeat it like 4 times). I would have used Stairway to Heaven :D.

Oh yeah, and I play my DS WAY more than my PSP, but I think I'll crack open that copy of Gripshift I have sitting there ;).

Maybe... (for you Roufuss)
lol, why for me? I don't even own Gripshift

Sorry, you got me before the edit - I thought I was responding to slidecage's PSP complaint thread (where someone linked to this thread for the Gripshift comparison video). The ellipses were for you, not Gripshift :D. Anyway, my full comment is in the appropriate thread now!

The thread in question:

Sorry, go about your business now :D.

Actually, though, I should emphasize that Gripshift is, indeed, $10 at Gamerush now. I realize not many people have that option, but it is definitely worth checking out if there's a GR near you. Some GR will have it marked and in the 50% off clearance rack, others (like mine :D) will have overlooked it and left it tagged at $19.99 (but it will ring up 50% off).

Alright I was a bit bored today so I timed some loading myself:

Initial load (from PSP screen to title, skipping all intros): ~1 min

1-1 exhibition match (from matchup screen onward, no intro): less than 1min (roughly between 45-50 seconds)

1-1 exhibition match (same as above, but with one CAW): ~2 min

1-1 Match (same as above, but with two CAW): ~2 1/2 min

and for shits and giggles; 6-man, all CAW HiaC: ~5 Min!

Okay, so the loading isn't all that great, but really you guys would be bitching if they left out the ability to play as CAWs all together. I still say it's the best PSP game out.
