LOL As long as they still take them disc only by me, I was tempted during that 5/$25 BB coupon deal to go out and get copies of Bioshock and other fairly recent games, then trade them in disc only and scratched to shit.
But, that only hurts the person who later on buys the game like that from them, since most times they don't really take those 'refurb' fees and actually use them to refurb the games/systems.
I remember the one time, my one buddy put a black marker mark on a PS1 or PS2 game, he traded it in in shitty condition(missing the manual/original artwork/scratched to hell). They gave him the rigamarole about a refurb fee, which took his trade value down to nil, but he traded it in anyway since it was something old and pretty much worthless.
About a week later, he comes back and looks specifically for HIS copy of the game, which they marked up(of course). After going through some 5-10 odd copies of the game, he found his copy with the marker, looked on the bottom of it and lo and behold, the scratches were STILL there.
So, imo, those refurb fees are a total

in ripoff scam that GS gets away with because stupid people let them do it. I'd personally like to see a news crew do an undercover investigation to bust this practice once and for all.
And from the Xbox for $50 promo deal time, how many people reported having to take back the Xboxs they were buying over and over to find one that worked? So much for testing them, huh?
I never really shopped at GS before maybe a year ago (when my town got one and I worked there); did they previously have the discs out on the floor? How in the world did he look for his copy?
And as far as the refurbishing goes, I know everyone in my store did it. We put it in a drawer and each night had to scan them out to go in a box in the back, which would later go away to get refurbished. Some games looked fine, but even on those, we did it anyway.
Some g/s are just shady I guess.
