We're unstacking stuff on each other after pulling them out of the closet. Fiancee finally agreed to get rid of most books we have in digital format.

 
Moved stuff. A lot. Freed up some room, but what's really great is how the space feels now. Shoulda done this a long time ago. Feels so much less cavern-like and more unified. Felt like two rooms before.

lol, she's more resistant about getting rid of the games than me. But her literal 20 boxes of books is not really worth anywhere near the same amount, per cubic foot or per pound. Plus, I already get rid of my play copies if I get them digitally.

We've been cataloging her books in the past week or so, starting with digital titles. Passed #1000 a couple days ago. She also had 4 copies of the same book (so far) -- on Nook, Kindle, paperback, and hardback.

Man, I wish I had the space to have everything organized like Wiggy!  I've got shelving in front of shelving at the moment. ><

No clue. A LOT of it was purchased when I was working used retail like 10-15 years ago, so I didn't pay a whole lot for a good chunk of the SNES, PS1, PS2, DC, and Saturn stuff. Thank god, considering current prices on many of those games.

I only recently considered actually checking the value. Prolly a good idea for insurance purposes :/

Ah, that sucks! I was getting close to that point right before re-organizing. Had stacks of games on the floor, which is probably worse than having games "double parked", so to speak. Gonna run out again as soon as I finish casing the games and portables I have sitting on my desk, but I've got a plan for another shelving unit which should buy me a good chunk more time :)

Speaking of insurance, do you have any idea how it works with "collectible" items? I've always wondered...

Like, what if a game's MSRP was $60, but you have a receipt when you got it on sale for $20, but it's current eBay prices are $90 (because it's out of print)... which one would insurance cover? What about condition, how do you prove your copy was in mint condition versus previous rental condition disc/cart? What about price fluctuations?

The only experience our family has had was with cars, and even then, they'll usually make a lowball offer and you have to fight tooth and nail to get the actual value of the damage done.

I've got my stuff insured but I can't imagine having to go through 1500 games and trying to see if it was priced fairly or not.

Here is an article that might explain a bit for you.

Take pictures of everything or even a video, If you want to take it further take pictures of things individually or things you really care for.

I know my LEGO collection is valued at over $35k, I have over 2300 blu rays and if I set those at $10 each that's over $20k. I don't even want to think how much my video game collection is valued at, I have so many hard to find games, it would take years to replace.

There was that big one in August no too long ago, and all my shit shook hard for 10 seconds...scariest 10 seconds of my life...

But yeah, they all survived, and nothing even fell, so I'm good...barring like a Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 quake, I think I'll be alright.

May have to mount them to the wall if I get too worried. XD

The explanation behind this as I've mentioned before is that Mainstays is the more affordable furniture brand of Sauder (as if it was expensive to begin with), so their cheaper line is branded as Mainstays. However, everything on the inside is exactly the same, and the manual to build it is even the same one they use for the Sauder shelves, so don't pay more the Sauder branded one when they're the same thing, except one is more expensive. Also, the Mainstays one Walmart actually carries in their store, so you don't have to order and wait.

 
I'm gonna be back at the ol' chop saw real soon. The growing N64 collection has outgrown its current location, and since I'm going for a full set now, it's just gonna take up even more space. I'm thinking something simple and wall-mounted for the next batch of shelves. Prolly put all the portable consoles and games on it. Should be fun :)

I say you add another layer of sliding shelves in front, and in 10 years you won't even have space for funiture down there, and it'll just be 10 layers of sliding shelves.

What kind of cases do you buy for the n64 games? I wanted to start putting mine in cases and making covers from like the cover project (although yours look a lot prettier, where did you get those from?)

@square: I can only imagine your panic, I'm guessing it's like ten fold of what I experience when my baby makes it over to my collection :lol:
