Nice to see the size and quality on those. I was thinking of spending some PUR points on the Bioshock Infinite one and I think I will now.

Well size does vary from poster to poster. The Portal is a little smaller than batman, so no idea how big Bioshock would be comparably. As far as quality goes though, yeah, they're pretty good.

Even if there's some variance in size I don't mind. If they're good quality like you say they are, that's enough for me.
Speaking of gaming posters, do any of the major printing places (Kinko's, photo centers of Wal-Mart and places like that, etc.) let you print out gaming art poster-size and not deny you by citing copyright infringement? I have some poster-size scans of official art from some games that I've been thinking on making actual posters out of but didn't know if anyone would let me. I'd buy official posters of the game art if any were available but it's just not available for what I want. If nobody in here has any experience with that sort of thing I'll just spin it off into its own thread

I must say everyone here have amazing collections, and recently thanks to me finally following CAG hardcore, my collection too is growing...fast first time with a real backlog in my life. And I also want to give props to whoever has cases that aren't plastic. Sealed or not. Younger I never considered them important, and now I have none ;( haha oh well

It's probably too late to stop you (I actually don't know if they even still have the Bioshock poster on the rewards site), but they sell a double sided poster on the website for $10 http://www.gamestop.com/toys/game-informer-cover-poster-october-2010/90482, the poster on the rewards site is not double sided, it just has the same image as the font of the poster that's for sale. Really regret wasting my points on it. Didn't even show up in that great of condition.

I had to sell almost everything I had a year or so back, so its a re-emerging collection, and I've been more focused on hardware than games (and it shows). Also, no fancy shelves, my wife doesn't care for the "show off all my games" aesthetic, so my collection is relegated to bins and drawers. Also, I have controllers for everything except the CD-i, just didn't dig them all out for the photos.

Finished the big reorganize! My lowball cleared out a TON of my DVDs and all of my retro games/consoles. I've finally integrated everything back into the shelves properly and I'm quite happy with the result.
I don't think I'll dabble in retro collecting any time soon, unless I get a bigass raise from my job. I'm just focusing now on my

collection. The 
games are my wife's.
Now the reason it looks so dank in the pictures is that my collection has to be displayed in my basement because it just wouldn't fit in the living room. Most of my house is decorated with antiques and they just wouldn't fit in with the decor. My plan for next summer is to finish the rest of the basement and turn it into my mancave, so I don't have to keep my collection out of sight.
Here is the overall shot. There are a few games missing as I've got them lent out....Thor, Lego Pirates and Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. You can see the boxes and some of the collectibles at the top, the first shelf with some more of the collectibles and the two Fallout CEs(they fit in the shelf height wise, but not width) and the second shelf starts the games and Blus/DVDs.

When I bought them, I worked at Best Buy so I paid $30 a piece for the shelves. I REALLY should've bought more......
Figure I'll post a few pics of my stuff. It would look much more impressive if I actually had a monstrous shelving unit like many of you have, but I have lots of smaller units scattered around my living area because space is kind of tight and I have to fit things where I can. Also, a whole lot of my stuff is stored in a huge series of bins in an upper room, especially anything vintage. Just don't have the room for a full display :x

The best thing about your collection: Slurm. Where did you get that? I want one. I think you've got the most impressive GBA collection I've seen.
The only notable things you're missing (or maybe I missed?) are Breath of Fire II, Pokemon Emerald and More Friends of Mineral Town...

I received the Slurm can as a gift a few years back, actually. I'm pretty sure it came from ebay. It has a deck of Futurama-themed playing cards in it, which is also kind of neat.

Thanks for the praise on the GBA collection, it's a decade in the making and still going I actually have a pretty huge list of GBA games that I'd still like to get complete, and what you mentioned are some of my biggest wants. I actually used to own a sealed Pokemon Emerald, but I traded it to a friend for a DS Lite and never managed to find another 
Some of my other highest-priority holes to fill are Tactics Ogre, the Shining Soul games, Demikids games, Robopon games, Super Mario Advance 3, Boktai I&II, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Pokemon FireRed, and so on. Hell, if I ever have money again I'll expand into the ridiculous Game Boy territory and get all the FF Legends, Castlevanias, RE Gaiden, and maybe even Shantae if I'm feeling particularly insane. It's an unhealthy obsession but a fun collector niche considering how overlooked GBA stuff is compared to NES, SNES, and so on.

Ugh can anyone help me, I have a SERIOUS problem with storage. I have a ton of consoles and games and I have no nice way of storing them all. I basically have them all shoved into corners of my room and I have 2 closets that are jammed full. We recently cleaned out a small room and we want to make it into a gaming room. I have the sterilite storage containers for some things but as you can imagine they are overflowing by now. I own more than 1000 games total and many systems, yeah I am sick. I also have about 100 VHS tapes.
I want to take my CRT and move it into the other room, then buy a 32 inch HD TV and put it in this room with the XBox 360. I have the space to do this. But I don't know what to do with the other room. We also had major electrical work done which also contributed to the current state of our messy upstairs.
I can't lift heavy things and the rooms are upstairs so buying pre-assembled furniture is not going to work. To give you an idea basically nothing fits up our stairs, we had to buy a split mattress for a full bed because the boxsprings would not go up the stairs.
I know I can get a small TV stand for the CRT TV from a yard sale and probably be ok getting that up the stairs. Its not a small CRT at about 21 inches it is quite heavy and not something I could pick up by myself, fortunately I do have one other person in the house who is able to help with lifting but we are both female and we just can't lift things like guys can. What I am really looking for is a way to display the consoles so that they are easy to get to and so they can be used whenever without having to dig them out. I don't mind covering my systems with plastic to keep the dust off them when they are not in use. Does anyone have any ideas? I know people used the wire carts in the past but I think I have too much for one of those, and they don't seem to be available anywhere around here.

First thing I would do is dump any VHS tapes that are easily available on DVD; sometimes if you're picking up stuff on the cheap the specter of buying it again can help you decide that you didn't really need Video A in the first place.
For the systems I think you should shoot for a basic entertainment center set-up; if you get a medium-sized wooden frame type (may want to search estate sales or thrift stores for something not particle board) you should be able to set up around three to four systems. Focus your environment around a small core of games/systems that get the most use.

There's about six interior slots with no back-board, it's just a fully open structure that I'm sure would be light enough for girls to carry. If you had to you could probably build one.
I want to take my CRT and move it into the other room, then buy a 32 inch HD TV and put it in this room with the XBox 360. I have the space to do this. But I don't know what to do with the other room. We also had major electrical work done which also contributed to the current state of our messy upstairs.
I can't lift heavy things and the rooms are upstairs so buying pre-assembled furniture is not going to work. To give you an idea basically nothing fits up our stairs, we had to buy a split mattress for a full bed because the boxsprings would not go up the stairs.
I know I can get a small TV stand for the CRT TV from a yard sale and probably be ok getting that up the stairs. Its not a small CRT at about 21 inches it is quite heavy and not something I could pick up by myself, fortunately I do have one other person in the house who is able to help with lifting but we are both female and we just can't lift things like guys can. What I am really looking for is a way to display the consoles so that they are easy to get to and so they can be used whenever without having to dig them out. I don't mind covering my systems with plastic to keep the dust off them when they are not in use. Does anyone have any ideas? First thing I would do is dump any VHS tapes that are easily available on DVD; sometimes if you're picking up stuff on the cheap the specter of buying it again can help you decide that you didn't really need Video A in the first place.

If you had to you could probably build one.Retro game room started - not enough room on the TV stand (actually a coffee table, but close enough) for all of the consoles. But, it looks cool.
Plus, my wife keeps reminding me that it isn't my retro game room, its our guest bedroom.

I am finally building/putting up my 2nd Oskar 1080 shelf. First I have to roll up or flat store posters from 2002-2011 that are on a table from various comic cons. So in a couple of weeks I should have it filled. I think I will make it mostly NES games. I need to get them organized, so I can start selling off the triples.

I am pretty good about dumping stuff that I don't actually want, so I have already gotten rid of all the VHS tapes that I can live without, I probably got rid of about 100 already. I actually only have about 60 VHS tapes and DVD's combined which isn't bad, the 100 estimate was a bit generous.. They are all in a big stack by my TV provided the stack doesn't tip over they are fine where they are. I have gotten rid of all the doubles in my collection unless they are different editions or if they were very cheap like 25 cent atari games I don't mind keeping a few different editions of those around (ex sears vs atari combat) its not going to take up much more space in the long run. I really can't get rid of these VHS tapes as I also like old nickelodeon stuff and most of this stuff isn't available for viewing elsewhere. I usually keep stuff for sale in a separate area so the doubles don't mix in with the rest of the collection and get lost in there. Every year at christmas I purge basically everything I can afford to get rid of on ebay which helps immensely with tackling the clutter. I try to figure out what stuff I am not using anymore then I sell it off.
I don't really want to get rid of entire systems and games because I worked quite hard to assemble my collection and I would probably just end up rebuying stuff down the road which would cost a lot more money than just storing everything.
I am focusing on the TV stand and consoles. A small TV stand will be easy to get, I do have a big wall on that side of the room so technically I can fit something that is taller just the problem of getting it up the stairs.. I suspect I can buy a basic shelf unit and just stick the consoles on that, the ones in the stores would be fine as they don't need to be heavy duty or anything for that and they are flat packed which means I can get them up the stairs (moving would be a nightmare though as once they are up the stairs they probably won't be coming down without getting taken apart). My household does own a truck so if something is too big for a car that is another option.

Purging now and then is definitely a good thing, but the mindset of storing everything due to the potential for rebuying is a scary one; this sort of thinking is something to watch because it can set you down the hoarder's path.

Keeping the limited edition and promo items out of the collection helps to free up space too. I have learned my lesson and I won't buy any more limited editions or preorder just for a junk promo item that will end up taking up space. I was able to easily sell off a bunch of promo items without any remorse for quite a lot of money each considering what the items were. Since they were sitting here and taking up space and I was not using them, why not.
I don't wanna be like the guy who sold his SNES to gamestop when he was a kid only to put the money towards some crappy n64 game then who ends up buying the SNES down the road again because he misses it. Too many people sold their systems off and then regret it, then end up buying it back. If I had to dump something I would rather dump all my VHS tapes rather than a system + games. I think there would be less regret over that than dumping or trading in a system with games and I wouldn't try to get them all back again.
I have some criteria for games, if it is a game I have already beaten, I sell it because chances are I won't play it again. If its a game that I played a bit of and I don't like it that much, on to the selling pile. The games I keep are the ones from the series I really like, like Pokemon or dragon quest. I play a lot of RPG's so once you beat them you probably don't want to come back to them. If its a game that can be replayed infinitely or something classic like Geometry wars or retro game challenge then those are the types of games I keep because I will probably be coming back to them in the future. I do find myself coming back to games a lot so I don't want to sell off every game I have obviously since I do go back to them.
I have dumped a lot of stuff over the years, including cleaning up messes that my other family members had made. I have sold thousands of dollars worth of stuff on ebay over the years. I had to tear up about 200 bags once that my grandparents and mom saved because they thought they would use them one day, that was not fun. My parents are bag savers and its a constant battle, I have to constantly throw them out of the kitchen drawers too or else I would have a drawer full of bags and no food or food that could not be found under the pile of bags. Hopefully they aren't pulling them out of the trash and stashing them somewhere else but I guess I will never know! You really don't need to save that many bags. I understand a few for garbage or storage but you don't have to save every single one.
