i moved rooms at my place and now i dont have my bookshlf but there were shelves in the closet.

but my collection looks so small now since i sent all my PSP UK LE to my bf house
and i just had a lowball, time to rebuild the collection
 
I'm ready to just tear up some floorboards, start digging, and eventually wind up with a dirt-floored game cellar. I've dug up a couple of arrowheads while gardening before, maybe I'll find some amazing Indian artifact while digging that can finance an actual basement :lol:

Have you considered investing in a VHS to DVD recorder. By converting your VHS to DVD, you can really free up some space. I had to do that for my parents, since they recorded a lot of old Chinese talk shows. Approximation 100 + vhs tapes. They used to buy blanks when the tapes were 6 for a $1 or something along those lines.

*Note, it is a bit time consuming. I was able to do them all, by only converting when I was playing games or watching movies.*

Not only that but VHSes begin to deteriorate after a few years and the deterioration is exponential so she's going to have to replace them sooner or later.

If you don't wanna convert them, they're fairly easy to find and download.
 
I'm trying to find a cheap analog capture card for my PC so I can just transfer my VHS tapes to my computer. Anyone got any they want to sell for cheap out of curiosity? lol But, I know how he feels. Most of my house is FILLED with VHS tapes.
 
Well I managed to prune the VHS tape collection down to 51 tapes but I really can't get it down any more than that, if I do that then I may as well toss them all. Now I just have to stop myself from buying more and everything will be good. The commercial releases hold up well but the home tapes seem to deteriorate with age. Blank media like DVD or CD can also deteriorate, ask anyone who burned CD's in the 90's. I have personally seen CD's from my own collection get disc rot and become unable to be used. We have some precious home movies on VHS that we are worried they will become unplayable, no idea what to do about this. The only good thing is there are a few relatives who have the same VHS so there isn't just one copy in existence.

Thanks to some storage items I bought at yard sales I managed to clean the giant pile by my TV stand and turn it into a much more reasonable sized pile. I do like to keep everything neat and organized but its impossible when you don't have the right storage equipment. I can't believe I was able to shove probably like 100 GBA/GBC/GB boxes into ONE tiny drawer when the boxes are folded.

I also got some of these really cool expandable files, I was gonna buy them new but then I found them for much cheaper at a yard sale. So far I saved a ton on storage by purchasing second hand. These are so great for organizing manuals and they don't take up a lot of space. I also don't have manuals all over the place now. Trying to shove my collection of boxes into them was a bad idea however as they didn't hold many.

Right now I KNOW I have to clean since I am getting a new TV stand for this room and bringing the old one into the other room and it will be a major pain if I have to clean it all the day I get the TV stand and television, that just would not work. Moving the old stand into the other room will also save me the trouble of trying to find a modern TV stand that can hold a heavy CRT as most in my size range are designed for flat panel TV's and the TV I am looking to get only weighs like 20 or 25lbs maximum. There is going to be enough to clean that day as there is dust and a few things that fell behind the stand that I can't get to. I can fill the other room with as much stuff as I want however obviously I am constrained by the size of the room (its quite small). However you can shove more than you think you can into those drawers.

I should also mention I have another problem. A lot of my gaming stuff was purchased for my by a friend by having him to go yard sales and buying pretty much everything he saw. He was famous for bringing stuff at extremely low prices. He enjoyed doing it for me. I will make a long story short, this friend passed away a few years ago, thus making me not want to get rid of any of the things he bought for me or gave me. He also gave me some of the things he owned as a child, and obviously, I don't want to part with those items.
 
Well you guys with the VHS tapes don't feel bad, I delivered to this old persons house. The man asked me to carry the package inside for him so I did and he had a wall that was at least 30 feet long with shelves that were about 3ft to 4ft high. Towards the end of one side he had some bigger shelves but he must have had at least 500 VHS tapes.

I have seen BETA tapes at the local thrifts several times, unfortunately I do not have a BETA player... never seen one in the wild either, probably wouldn't be able to resist if I did.
 
My dad picked up a beta player at a sale a few months ago, and now that's just sitting in our garage.

Also, I bought a few more games and realizing I'm up to 40 Xbox games I finally re-organized and alphabetized.
 
Ok...so i've done this before, but only of a college apartment set up. First time i've ever posted my entire set up at home.

Notice the two TV's. The main TV i do my gaming on is the flat screen HDTV. Wii, PS3, and 360 are hooked up to that guy. The tube TV runs my past gen and older consoles. We do like to use both TV's at the same time for Halo 1 lan.

Here's the tube TV I use for non-current-gen systems. It's on an old TV stand, and I took out the middle shelves to store guitar controllers inside. Drum controllers are in a closet.

Here are the consoles. I have all cords/controllers and everything works with the exception of the 360 and NES on the very top shelf. The little red/white system next to the first Xbox (with the N64 for a hat) is called a "yobo". It plays NES games and I picked it up for $15 when my NES broke. Original NES controllers work with it, and it also came with these two famicom-esque controllers. The bottom Xbox (with the Genesis for a hat) isn't mine. It belongs to a friend of mine but she basically keeps it here for Halo 1 lan.

Here is my Nintendo shelf. Can't see it in the first picture, but it's to the left of the brown couch. Sorry the pic is so blurry. Top shelf doesnt really matter right now. The gamecube and wii game on that shelf aren't mine. I've got Pokemon boxes and my sealed Mario All-Stars up there. I'm going to use that shelf for 3DS games once I finally pick one up.

Random mirror chair thing. I honestly dont know where this thing came from. But the seat opens up. I forgot to take a picture of inside it, but in there is where I store Game Gear (console is sitting on the chair), Genesis, Virtual Boy, Dreamcast (console and games...cord broken so it's not out), N64, and PS1 games. I've got my GB/GBC and GBA games and consoles hanging from it in the carrying cases. One of my 360 headsets is also on one of those hooks. The blue thing on the seat is one of my mat controllers. The rest are in a closet. Next to it is the PS2 and PSP shelf.

My room is a dust magnet so I would never be able to keep consoles out in the open like that, I have to wrap all my consoles in plastic, and pretty much everything that is left out, as it is just to keep the dust out of cracks and crevices. If I kept consoles out they would be dust covered in a week or less. Its much easier to dust off the plastic and remove it before use and put it back after use rather than have dust filled consoles every week or so.

Oh, I so desperately want to re-organize your gaming area. Ha ha. It looks a lot like my set-up, but spaced out; all of my stuff is stuck in a little corner of the living room (and my older stuff is hidden in my son's room). You are very lucky to have a nice huge basement like that. I've been looking to buy a place nearby that has a basement just a little bit bigger than yours and it even comes with a bar (perfect for my wine collection). It costs about $450,000 so all I have to do now is win the lottery and it's all mine!

haha i get that itch sometimes too. for my entire life, my game setup usually only stays the same for a year or less before i decide to re-organize the entire thing.
 
I've got a bit of space, 60ish" in width and at least 70" in height to work with. I'm desperate to find something that will hold SNES (with box), NES (with box), and blu-rays/DVDs. I checked out the Billy Bookcases form IKEA, but they're 11" in depth and I don't think anything I have requires more than 7".

Any advice on a storage unit that might solve my storage problem would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you get your frames? I've got a ton of posters and whatnot that need to be handing but I'm just too lazy and cheap to search for good frames.
 
Those look a lot like the frames at Walmart, which I believe are usually $10 or less. But don't quote me on that...all I know for sure that our 8x10 frames were $3 each.

Got new shelving for my PS2 games today. While my actual PS2 collection is only slightly bigger than the last photo I posted of it, I think that the overall look is much nicer than before:

Ha ha, BigLots, right? That's the exact same shelving unit I have for my games. I need to get another one, though, 'cause mine's full. I guess I'll have to share pictures sometime soon, although my gaming area is a bit boring; the only "decorations" I have are a clock, my degree, and my wedding photo.
 
I need to find some new shelves. My storage bins are overflowing...
Still need to sell all my misc stuff before I can do any real orgranizing though.

Wal-Mart via site-to-store, but I'm sure this shelving is available anywhere that sells discount home furnishings. It's really, really nice looking. I actually purchased another and finished swapping games out of my old shelving units today, so you can see the pics at the bottom of this post.

And come on, your "decorations" show accomplishment. Mine just show that I'm a raging nerd :lol:

I've only ever seen these at BigLots but it's definitely the exact same thing as mine and they do indeed look nice. You'd hardly know it's just some cheap pieces of wood. In fact, mine is sitting next to my big fancy entertainment center and they pretty much look like they came as a set.

Ha ha, yeah, but I wanna show off my nerdiness too. It'd be great to show of stuff like my Dragon Quest slime, ilomilo dolls, and other neat stuff but it's WAY too dusty. By the time you finish dusting everything, it's all covered in dust again. Bah, I miss living at the beach.

I agree, I love how that looks. I had a similar until (wait a few days and watch how much each shelf bends) but had to get rid of it due to confined space.
