Your favorite time in gaming?

I was just wondering when everyone's favorite time has been in gaming? I've been playing for about 18 years and mine would either be 4th quarter 1995, when the PS launched and Chrono Trigger was released. Christmas 2000, the DC came out with so many great games at that time it was unbelievable. Or November 2004-January 2005. Playing Halo 2, Paper Mario: TTYD, Metal Gear Solid 3, Resident Evil 4, and KOTOR 2. Those have probably been the times that bring back the best memories for me. What's yours?

I wasn't sure about whether to put this here or in the Old School forum, so if it needs to be moved, move it.
 
Mine is definatly the 3rd or 4th quarter of the SNES's life. It was a time when I was in middle school and video games were the only thing I had to worry about. At home I'd play RPGs all day and with friend's I'd be having NBA Jam tournaments and countless hours beating TMNT IV Turtles in Time.
 
Definitely any time I was in college (93-97). There were always people around to play with. I played so many seasons of NHL 94 and tournaments of MKII it was a miracle I ever graduated.
 
Back before I had a job when getting a game was an actual event: always the drive home from the store, opening up the plastic wrapping and reading the instruction book for the first and last time, purely out of excitement.
 
I'd have to say during the golden era of the NES (the last few years). I remember going to Toys R Us, my game retailer of choice at the time, and after being blown away by the wall of games , then deciding what new game I wanted based on the cover art. Then I'd take that title home to figure out what it was like, and I played it even if it was awful.

I loved those days of my youth. *sniffle*
 
The dawn of the SNES and the day of the N64.

EarthBound and GoldenEye, baby.
 
I have three:

Getting a ColecoVision for Christmas the year it came out. I knew a lot of people with Ataris, but this was some next-level stuff back then. Played Donkey Kong for hours that night.

Sega Genesis years in college. Being blown away by the 16-bit sprite graphics. Strider, Super Monaco GP, Fire Shark, Road Rash, mmmmmm....

And most recently, and maybe the best of all, were those two wonderful years of the Dreamcast, specifically the launch. It's the first system I ever bought at launch and the only one that all of my gaming friends bought too. We had a DC party on 9/9/99 and my wife even help me make cupcakes with white icing with orange swirls on top. Sonic, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, Worms, Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue, Space Channel 5... that little white box could go down in history as my favorite system ever. Great times.
 
Probaly the N64 years. Playing Goldeneye and Perfect dark with 4 friends and eating Hot pockets and other random junk food all day, ahh middle school was great. We still play Goldeneye if we ever get together to play some games, it was and alway will be a great game.
 
The late period of the SNES's life when Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, FF6, Mario RPG, etc, were all released. Count in games like Super Metroid and Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and it is almost too much to bear.

Definitely the days of the SNES. Games were the shiznit back then. I would play forever on those games and knew every little secret of practically every game out there. The Sega-Nintendo battle of the time was even a healthy one where one could love one system and stand up for it, but still have respect for the other, not like all the hatred and fanboy stuff of today.

I did that a few times, until one time I wasted my hard-earned money on Spelunker for the NES. After that I only bought games my friends recommended or I saw in Nintendo Fan Club (later called Nintendo Power).

Those were the days.

I remember when Street Fighter II came out and my brother and I begged my mom to get it for us. She did and i can't tell you how much time we wasted playing that game. It was one of the best time ever.

i remember that game. my friend got drunk and started playing it. he even put on one of those spelunking flashlights. good times.
 
I don't have a single favorite time. The early days of the NES and the prime of the SNES were great times for me. I would also have to mention the time around the launch of the Playstation and FF7.
 
I'd say '90-'95, which was a great era for Nintendo, Sega, and the arcade scene. A ton of great games were released for both the SNES and Genesis during that time, and thanks to games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, there was never a lack of people crowded around an arcade cabinet checking out the action and waiting to step up to the challenge.

Oh how I miss those days :cry:

Amen to that man! I can remember having to be really picky about which games to get, and eagerlay awaiting their releases. Then, I would actually play through the whole thing, 100% it, and play through again cuz I didn't have money to buy a new game. Thanks to a job and CAG, I have more games than I'll ever be able to play, and yet they have somewhat lost there luster.
 
Other posts made me remember when I had an NES and my dad would take me to the mall. We'd go to KB Toys (might have been Kaybee still back then) and he'd ask the clerk to pick two random games. I'd look at them and pick whichever I wanted, and then eagerly take it home to play.

I still remember which games I chose between on that occassion - Mighty Bomb Jack and Soloman's Key. I chose Soloman's Key. That game was infuriatingly hard but still, good stuff.

I understand the whole "momentuous" feeling that is sadly gone with being older, having more money, and being a CAG. It was such a big deal to get games back then.

I also remember one day after school, I just happened to find Zelda: LTTP in our car's console. I don't know if I wasn't supposed to find it or not, but I took it out and began playing immediately.

Or when the SNES launched. Thankfully Nintendo has released the majority of their consoles around September, and being that my birthday is 9/9, they woke me up at like 6 before school one day and had a big box for me to open. They kept making comments like "I hope we got the right color and that it fits" to throw me off. Good lord that day at school couldn't have been done more quickly. I just remember coming home and tearing out Super Mario and playing it all night.
 
1995-2000 hands down. I went from playing really amazing 16-bit games (Yoshi's Island, DKC 2, Vectorman, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, FF VI, etc.) to playing even great 32 (and 64) bit games (Final Fantasy VII-IX, Crash Bandicoot, Megaman X4, Mario 64, Mischief Makers, Xenogears, Chrono Cross).

There seemed to be so much more quality back then compared to now.
 
Hmm some of the best times ive ever had gaming were playing Goldeneye in my apartment, playing super smash bros melee and mario kart in my dorm and now back in my apartment again after 2 years of fucking around upstate :) Im enjoying playing gundam vs zeta gundam with my friends.
 
August 1991. When I walked into TRU and found they'd gotten in the SNES, a week before my birthday. I'll never forget playing through Super Mario World for the first time...
 
The PS RPG revolution, late 90's, early 2000's. I worked at TRU at the time and would buy any game that my heart desired.

The entire SNES era. It was a simpler time when Nintendo was the unrivaled king and SNES was the only system you needed. I have nothing against Sony or Microsoft, and I know compitition is good for the industry, but it's hard on my bank account. Also, it was the peak of 2D gaming, and many of those games are still among my very favorites.

Fear not, brother! For it was delivered unto my hands at roughly 7 PM that night. Along with Soul Calibur. I don't know if my parents pre-ordered or not, but I had the DC up and running within minutes.

Good GOD that was a killer launch.
 
Definitely the late SNES era and Golden Eye for N64.

The SNES/Genesis Era was definitely the Golden Age of gaming. Ahh, how I miss those times.
 
middle school. there was a big N64 craze in my class and everyone got Goldeneye (obviously I was the only girl). i got 007 mode before anyone else and kept kicking everyone else's ass when we played together. for one of our class projects, we were supposed to teach the class how to do something: i taught the class how to get the invincibility cheat, lol.
 
Ahh 1991. On October 3rd, my brother's b-day, we got a Super NES with Super Mario World. We bought Sim City a few weeks later. And then on Christmas morning, we received the following embarassment of riches:

1. Act Raiser
2. Super Castlevania IV
3. Final Fantasy II
4. Super Play Action Football
5. Super Ghouls N Ghosts
6. Super R-Type

Two times that stand out in my mind:

1) When Super Smash Brothers first dropped and I accepted Pikachu as my personal lord and saviour. ;)

2) Freshman year, with THPS3 and then VF4. Least productive year ever. :lol:

QFT. I still maintain that it's the best launch in console history.
 
My favorite time in gaming was 1992-1995. The 16-bit era with the Genesis playing Strider and NHL 92-94. SNES with Street Fighter 2, MK2, FF 3. Playing in Doom Tournaments my freshman year of college. Fall-Winter of 1995, playing LAN multiplayer Warcraft II and Quake with my friends in the dorm. Best time of gaming in my life.

I used to have a shitty paper route and I got final fantasy III for the snes and chrono trigger. I got them before my route so I came home and put the game in to watch the intro's and be all happy. I couldn't wait to get home and play those games, but gaming has been all down hill since then :(
 
Hmm. It's hard to narrow it down to one time frame.

1991-1996 was probably my favorite overall. The first time I got my Street Fighter II cart ($74.99 IIRC) was amazing. The hottest game on the planet on a home console with almost no real differences? Amazing. Plus Square and Nintendo really shined at this time.

Sega had it's gems too. Gunstar Heroes, Snatcher, Shining Force....

Plus, the PS One was about to change the game entirely. The first title I remember getting was Resident Evil.
 
Mine would be the Xmas the NES came out. I remember firing up SMB1 and thinking 'Holy crap, I can't believe a game this amazing can be played right here in my living room!'

Another time I had rented River City Ransom and my best friend rode the bus home (w/o permission) with me so we could play it after school. Had a great time, but his mom was PISSED!

So true. Not to mention that, before discs, having a slew of $10 and under games to choose from during the cosole's life simply didn't happen.
 
1. Fall 90 playing Tecmo Bowl on the NES in the dorms instead of going to class. About 50 guys in a tournament through XMas break.

2. Getting my Coleco! I had every crazy accessory for that thing.

3. PS1 was pretty damn cool too.

That reminds me, in 1991 there was one other game that I played more than any other...

Tecmo Super Bowl.

That was the most fun I ever had with an NES game.

Right now that I'm in college but I must say that I miss the old days of playing rpgs all day because I had nothing else to do...I wish I had more time.
