Your Most Aggravating Achievements?
The Gold metal challenges for Portal are making me not like that game anymore.
Same thing happened to me. But as soon as I caught myself referring to Portal as "fucking bullshit game" I gently took it out and placed it on my shelf. No game with a awesomeness level that high deserves to be disliked because of stupid pointless achievements.

On topic, I really don't like offline co-op achievements. Like in GH I have trouble finding someone that's at my skill level because all of my friends aren't really into it.

Mile High Club, I've spent over 10 hours or more trying to get it, and I can never fully make it there, and the times that I do, the timer likes to reach 0 even when I'm an inch away from the final door.

I'd have to agree with those online ones. I got all the Burnout Revenge offline achievements, but since I don't have XBL Gold, I'll never get those. BTW, who cares about videos anyway?

The other must be Tetris Evolution, at least for me. 3 Tetris consecutively? I've played for hours and haven't gotten that. Not sure how luckily I have to be to get that one.

It's not really difficult but I'll mention it anyway. The "Assault Soldier" (or something like that) achievement for Call of Duty 3 states that you have to beat a single player level while firing only shots from assault weapons.

I've played through two levels firing only sub-machine gun rounds, that didn't count. And I've played through the second level four times firing only BAR and FG42 rounds and that didn't count either. All I can think is that the scoped FG42 that you pick up in that level counts as a rifle or something like that.

An assault rifle and an SMG are two different types of guns.
I have only played Portal on the PC, so I can only imagine how damn infuriating those must be without the precision of a keyboard and mouse. I have thought about renting The Orange Box for the 360, but I don't want to end up putting my controller through the television.

QFT. I tried them on the first stage and I don't think I could even get close to bronze for the least steps. I just gave up.

Least portals I could see going for as that lets you stick to treating it like a puzzler and carefully map out your moves.
Even the least portals is brutal because in order to get through some parts using as few as possible it requires quick and precise shooting, of which the controller cannot give.

I think the only hope for me to ever get those achievements will be to somehow have the game support mouse and keyboard some day on the console! Or I could dedicate my life to it!

I still need to finish the rest of the Orange Box, but that is behind a bunch of other games right now, so this all is quite distant for me.

The achievements that I hate the most are scaling difficulty ones. I play through games once. Twice if its the greatest game of all time. So most of the time I put it on the hardest difficulty the first run through.

So I hate it when games want you to play the game on rookie, then vet then hard then super ball busting anal rape settings.

Guess what? Your game most likely isnt good enough for me to play through more than once so make the damn achievement Normal or Higher......not Normal and higher.

Fools. Achievements are gay anyway.

Also, any time there is one that says you HAVE to be number 1 or 2 in the world in a certain game.

Kane and Lynch Dead Man comes to mind where you have to be number 1 or 2 to unlock. Its like Msoft doesnt realize their are a million and a half cheaters out there.

Which reminds me of another one. Any rank based one. This just causes more glitches and cheaters as people try to stroke their e penis to stay atop of the leaderboard.

I remember back when I was addicted to getting every possible achievement I spent like 2 and a half hours in Superman Returns trying to find every damn cat. I found every one of them except for the one last cat, I eventually just gave up and thought that I could continue looking for it later but for some reason, the game wouldn't let me save anymore. Wanted to tear my hair out after, hahaha.

I'm sure you know what the interent is, you're using it right now. Look up the achievement so you don't waste time on how to do it. http://www.achieve360points.com/game/callofduty3/ or http://www.xbox360achiever.com/Call-of-Duty-3
leave a comment on xbox360achiever.com and someone will tell you specifics. Sounds to me that you need to use rifles, assault ones and don't melee.

For another one I just started playing Universe at War and there are a ton of achievements for playing online matches, ranked and non. Great, I can't do internet matches with satellite, fuck.:bomb:

Ok scratch that, the gayest one is here!:

That one was pretty gay, but I just sat in the tutorial stage and was at my computer with the controller in one hand pressing the button over and over and over...
An assault rifle and an SMG are two different types of guns.
Well I thought they might have meant "not rifles" since a similar achievement stated to fire only rifles. I did it once, thought I might have accidentally fired a rifle shot, tried again, and then realized that submachine guns didn't count.

I was close I guess. I'd have to play that same level with only firing the BAR. I was wrong in assuming that the FG42 was an assault rifle. Oh, and they mean that melee attacks don't count against the achievement.

As for the Command & Conquer 3 achievement, it doesn't sound that bad. I mean you probably press the "A" button over a hundered times in a single game. (I assume that the "A" button is used to select units and such.)

After having just gotten 100% in Bully, I can confidently say I pushed the 'A' button in that game over 10,000 times EASILY. Still, what a totally unimaginative achievement. They might as well have put "Achievement Whore (20G) - Press the guide button and check to see what achievements are available and how to get them".
I just got the One Free Bullet achievement in HL 2 Ep. 1 and it was frustrating me. I figured it would be a fun challenge but I hated doing it. I really just wanted to shoot some people but I was so close to the end I just finished it out. I'll no longer sacrifice my enjoyment I get out of a game for some achievement.
that sort of thing is pretty much why if an achievement is aggravating then I wont bother trying to get it. because if I'm not having fun then what's the point.

The keep off the sand achievement in Orange box is very annoying. I spent a lot of time and got to the end of the level and didnt unlock the acheivment. I was sure I hadnt touched the sand but after trying for so long I just gave up on it.

That one's lame. I spent TONS of extra time figuring out imaginative ways to move doors, pieces of wood, etc just to avoid the sand. Never woke up any antlions and figured I was good. WRONG! :( no achievement for me...

I have a new aggravating achievement. Little Rocket Man in The Orange Box. Driving around with the gnome is a pain in the ass. I went over a jump that you can't get back up and he fell off before the jump. I go back to the nearest auto save and throw him over the jump. Turns out it was a loading point and when I get to where he should be I can't find him. I don't know if it disappears with the loading screen or not but I was pissed.

Missile Attack 1in time pilot. it wasnt hard for me it did make me really angry though because it was glitched for me and i had to shoot down like 25 or 30 of the things to get the achivement.and i got missle attack 2 in like 2 rounds.

I just started BioShock, so its definitely going to be any kind of "Collect all of X" because it seems that its very linear and easy to miss things like diaries, etc. Good thing I have the guide from BB that pennied (but this is going to get written in and abused due to the degree of STUFF to do and find, so I should probably get a second copy to keep pristine).

i know your pain. was so happy to finally get that go-kart and stop mashing on A for everything.
Vetern Difficutly on COD 3
It was difficult but not too frustrating for me. If you are on the second to last mission just be sure to be aiming already when you go around the corner. For Mile High Club you need a combination of luck and skill. Just keep going! The type of achievements which gets me are as follows:

(1) Anything online unless there is the option for local. I am looking at you Gears of War in particular, among countless others.
(2) Achievements hard simply because the controls/game mechanic/etc. suck. A good example of this is the Portal medal achievements, and also the campaign for Perfect Dark Zero. How is the health non-regenerating for the most part. The least they could do on the hard difficulty when I get killed quick is to give a lot of checkpoints...but guess what...there are NONE!
(3) Anything overcomplicated. The Mass Effect achievements are a bit hard for me to understand. I have looked at them for quite a while and it is one reason I have only gone one hour in. I do not want to miss something in a game that long!

Man, this is a great thread. I think all of us can go on and on about how we love/hate some achievements. Some of my most fustrating achievements have already been mentioned, i.e. COD4, online achievements, certain # of kills achievements.
The achievements that really gets me are the games with mutiple 10g achivements, Rock Band comes to mind. COD4 has about 30, but GRAW2 has 60 achievements. Looking at GRAW I know for a fact that I will never get some of the achievements, which kind of kills the experience because I like most Tom Clancy games.

The achievement that took the most time for me was Survive 1,000,000 points in Geometry Wars. One time I got to over 900,000 points and had 9 bombs left but died because I didn't see the enemy and had no chance to use a bomb. I eventually got the achievement but it took forever.

Guitar Hero 3's non rewarding achievement system and playing a guitar hero game all the way through with a controller. COD2 was aggravating cause the enemy's aim was perfect and your teammates weren't very useful.

Both GH games suck ass for achievements. You basically have to be a phenom to get them.

The one in Call of Duty 4 where you need to complete the bonus hostage mission inside the double decker airplane and parachute out. That missions took me soooo long to complete, but the feeling of satisfaction after completing it was awesome!

CoD2. There was one mission where you had to clear out like 7 buildings, it was such a pain in the ass.

I probably died 100 times before clearing out the first building. Luckily, there are checkpoints throughout it.
the correct answer is Final Fantasy XI. Just try any one achievement
>.> if I actually got FFXI for 360 I would already have 9 of those achievments

I liked the CoD2 achievements. Some of the missions may have been quite difficult, but at least I could do them at my leisure and not have to worry about the online community dying. They may be hard, but most everybody beats them eventually, unlike some impossible games!
Seriously on Gears of War. I'm STILL working on it, and I'm over 10,000 kills.
It is bad enough by itself, but the fact that they cannot even make the leaderboards work correctly is infuriating. Even though I have said it several times it is worth saying again: there should be no online achievements, and if there are they should be both reasonable and available in local play.
Pretty much any achievement, that requires you to be online or do something online, when there are absolutely no people who play that game online anymore.
Yeah have fun trying to get anything from Perfect Dark Zero. Like 85% of the achievements require online play and like 3 people out there are still playing it...

Very true, I still play PDZ from time to time and PDZ allows you to fill the game with bots unless people show up so that's why I usually play it. 85% of those online achievements are like kill this person with this weapon X amount of times. This was a launch title was it not, developers should learn from this title with achievements and bot systems (lame yet good at the same time).

Eh, I don't have a problem with the online ones on Gears of War, just Seriously is annoying me. I have a friend who has 16,000 kills and still hasn't gotten it, and he's MAD, to say the least.

Yeah it's pretty depressing when you've beaten a game and you've unlocked 60/1000

Personally, I'm more of a solo champaign kind of guy. I'll go through my occasional online shooter phase but generally it doesn't take me long to get tired of playing with idiots who won't keep there mouths shut.

Halo 3 wasn't so bad for me because I was right there when it came out and I whooped a lot of people but Gears and COD4 I didn't start playing until they've been out awhile and I was getting owned all the time.

If I'm sucking, I'm quite aware of how bad I'm doing and it is always unintentional, telling me how badly I suck doesn't motivate me to be better, it motivates me for betrayal :bomb:

Anyways...

yeah I kinda roll my eyes a bit when I see a game in which the majority of the achievements can only be unlocked online...

Master of the Extreme - Forget that you can't get hit once or your multiplier will reset, how about the fact that it will take almost 2 hours of continuous play to even have a shot at the achievement?
Just got it.

I think it only took me an hour to get to 100x multiplier, this time.

The achievements in Lego Star Wars II were really fun for the most part... except for the beat the vehicle levels without dying ones. I sill have that damn Death Star II to finish grrrrr
