Y's Ark of Napishtim - is anyone on the planet interested in this game?

CAGiversary!
I haven't played other Y's games, but this one looks really good. But, you can't find much info on it. Is anybody else interested in this game or have good websites where you can get info?

I did look at both of those sites! On gamefaq's i must have hit a wrong link or something because there were literaly 4 threads going. Thanks for the links.

I'm thinking there might be a price drop pretty quick. The MSRP is $39.99 out the gate. But, this game is getting pretty much zero press.

This game seems pretty cool from the demo. Seems like it might be too "old school" for casual folks so quick price drops seem likely. I'll buy it in the less then $25 price range.

I finally played the demo and thought it was just okay. I probably won't buy for $40. I'll wait 'til it hits $20. Too bad, cause I was in the mood for old school fun.

I'd wait for a drop, but I love the Ys series and there's no room in my summer calender for any of this year's early releases...

HA! That's awesome.....I love this website.

Yeah for some reason I really really want this game. I dont' know why since I thought the snes land of the y's was just okay and they haven't put any out for the comp. in ages but dammit it's going to be mine. Plus I have a $25 giftcard thanks to cheapy and it's either this, digital devil saga or Wild Arms Altered Code. What to choose.

I agree with you that. This game does have an "old school" look and feel to it. The demo was pretty enjoyable, but its not something I'd pay full price for. For me, it'd have to drop below $20.

I played the demo and I liked it, although while fighting one of the larger monsters the hit detection seemed a bit off. I never played an Y's game before so I have no bias towards it.
where can i get the demo?

i am really interested in this game and wanted to try it out
The newest issue of OPM (Area 51 cover) has it...

Well im off to go get it. I have nothing else to do right now. Plus it is either this or gt4. Since i am still playing gt3, ill go for y's. Ill post later about it.

*UPDATE*

Welll i went to the damn mall and they did not have it. They only had 3 copies at each one for the "ones who pre-ordered" it. So i picked up gt4 instead. I was laughed at the entire way back from the mall...

I got the game, all I can say is i am VERY happy. original music, Anime cuts scenes and voices are in the game (U need to use a code to open them). So now we can pick how we want to listen and see everything. Granted the US FMV isn't bad either, I love the control, graphics are awesome for me. It's hard to believe this is an old PC game. I love having all the characters voiced as well. I have been wanting a new y's game for quite some time and I am very happy with this. 39.99 is a nice price point as well. I'm about 2 hours into it and it's a blast. It isn't top of the line tech wise, but it's an awesome retro hack n' slash action/rpg game in every respect. Old school loving is back.

Even better, Konami gave us codes to enable the PC version of the game (anime intro, different cutscenes, "gore")...

i got this and hopefully GT4 coming saturday from gamefly. i heard the game was sort of short so i didnt want to pop down 40 bucks for the game.

Not a sucker, just got a different game instead.....if i pray hard enough, god will let me have y's. [-o< O:)

Oh who am i kidding, God has it out for me. :fridge:

Notice a lot of people are waiting for a price drop, but at the same time local EBs only got a few copies of this game. Could see this becoming hard to find but at the same time I could see Konami doing a reprint.

I have quick question. I never had a system that had any of the Y's games available and I know the main character is the same in this one as the previous games.

But do I have to know anything about or have played the other Y's games to totally understand the story for this enstallment?

They rarely make games that require you to play the previous enstallment to understand the game. I'm sure you will be fine even if this is your first ys game

You're probably right, but the fact that the characters were the same made me worry a little.

That's odd....

I picked my copy up at Best Buy of all places,... the day after release.

It is a solid game, with top notch production values.

It is very old school, and is looking to be as difficult as Ys 3 on the SNES.

$35 isn't too bad for a new release, and a great RPG at that.

Enjoy.
:)

Only one store in my town even carries it (One of my EBs). When I asked the guy about it, he said they only recieved one copy and the district manager has little intention on ordering more. I may just pick it up just incase it goes OOP sooner rather than later.

I consider myself an equal opportunity gamer but these past six days just played Y's Ark of Napishtim. I beat it last night on normal. On normal the difficulty is minimal once you master the moves and know the enemies weak points. For an action-RPG, there wasn't a single time I had to hang out in one area for the sole purpose of leveling up (which is always a plus for me). It takes about 12 to 15 hours to get through. For fans, there are some nods to the past Y's (as well as old character), but yes, you don't have to have prior knowledge of the past games.

Oh, and the game is structured in a way that you never get stumped but you do have to think once in a while. It does remind me of one of the simple pleasures of gaming I have: continuing a game knowing that the reason I stopped the previous day wasn't because I was stuck at a boss or didn't know where to go. In other words, there's nothing like loading a game the next day with the anticipation of assured progress once you get going again.
It takes about 12 to 15 hours to get through.
That is actually good news to me. I don't have the time to put equivalent hours of a work week into a game.

yeah, I also am always happy when the game time is rated at below 20 hours. after about a week's worth of my spare time, I feel the need to move on :)
i will grab it when it gets lower than 25....the reviews have been so-so, but still...i love action/rpg's
I thought about wating, but than after trying to find gradius V I decide not to take the chance.
I have it and its great. Very old school feel. Although a friend of mine is now borrowing it. :joystick:
Playing with your joystick instead eh?:p
