Steam weekend deal: Indie game pack $30

not as good as the d2d deal for 18 bucks(Zeno Clash, The Path, Defense Grid, Cogs, Democracy 2), but still worth it. if you haven't played The Path yet, i would highly recommend it. the perfect game for playing in the middle of the night with all of the lights off and headphones on.

Dang it have been waiting all morning for steam's deal. Great as it is I am a bit disappointed that they did not allow for the purchase of these games individually at a sale price also.

Considering i already own 4/10, and have no interest in 4/10, this isn't such a good deal, but if you don't have a lot of them, it's definitely worth it.
Can you gift the ones you already have?
Usually not.

These mega deals kinda suck for for folks who already own a few games like me. And steam as far as I know only lets you gift the games from the orange box and even then I think its just HL2 & EP1.

Mmm. The only ones I'd really want would be Crayon Physics and The Path. Wish these were individually discounted, too.
Can you gift the ones you already have?
No. This is not a normal feature of Steam. Never ask again.
Umm, yeah. . .$30 for Braid and World of Goo is not a deal. Even at $20 is still iffy.
What?

Yeah, Braid is the second-worst game in this pack, after Audiosurf. But there are plenty of good games in there.

Can you gift the ones you already have?
No. This is not a normal feature of Steam. Never ask again.
Allow me to elaborate a bit.

If Valve/Steam were to allow gifting of games you already own, it would allow people to stock up on bundles/deals where the games are discounted. Take this package for example, 10 games for $30. So you just paid $3 for each game, except if gifting were allowed, you could probably re-sell each of those games for $5, netting yourself a nice $2 profit per game. You can imagine how many resellers would take advantage of this...

Now what's the problem? Well the problem is now Valve just created competition for itself by offering these games at a discount. Valve offers games at a discount for one weekend, resellers stock up, weekend is over and now the resellers have better prices than Steam! So now Valve can't sell those games at the usual price since the resellers have flooded the market with cheaper offerings. What is Valve left to do? Never have weekend deals? Never allow bundles? or Don't allow gifting of games?

The solution they chose isn't perfect but look at the alternatives. They could, and may in the future, develop some kind of plan that allows you to gift a limited number of any particular game but then you run into the problem of resellers just making tons of accounts (since they're free) to do this. Any solution they pick will be a compromise between best/worst case scenarios. Hell, they're losing money on those of us that have a few of these games and it's just not worth it for us to buy the whole package due to their solution - I still imagine they're losing less money than the alternative.

Like I said before, someday a new solution will be created the numbers will be crunched and the solution deemed cost-effective. They will implement it. People will complain.

Of the games, I've played

Audiosurf
Braid
Mr. Robot
World of Goo,

and only Braid and World of Goo are worth it. WoG was $5 from Steam, and Braid was $10 from XBL IIRC.

@spuffin:
Both the Steam User Agreement and Steam Publishing Contracts specifically disallow ANY license transfers, period.

It's never going to happen. Take your paragraphs of fantasies and shove em.

great deal imo. I have audiosurf already and have played braid on xbox, but I've been looking to play most of the other games

thanks op

This is great, I dont have any of these games and I havent heard of a couple of them, but for that price its frickin awesome!

Great price on a bundle that includes Braid. That alone is worth half the value of the pack. I already own Audiosurf and I'm not sure if I'd have an interest in Darwinia since I already have Multiwinia, but I'm still debating it for that price. The 5-game pack looks interesting, although I'd also like Gish, so meh...decisions decisions.

Either way, good deal if you don't own any or many of the games.

I don't see why any 'shoving' needs to occur. spuffin was just explaining why Valve wants to restrict that kind of gifting to certain Valve products.

@spuffin
I think a path that Valve could take is one exemplified by a current GOG sale:
A five-game pack for about 30% off. Already have some of the games because you were a good customer and paid full value? Fine, you can complete your pack with the remaining games at 30% off.

To do that, however, instead of just grouping 10 indie games and pricing it simply at $29.99. They would have to do like GOG and apply a % discount to all the games to determine their sale value (even though the sale only applies to the pack purchase). This would probably lead to even more complaints for the games to be on sale individually, but I think its much better than the current quasi-punishment for early buyers.

That being said, I'm on the fence here. I've got Audiosurf and Goo. Plus Gish and Mr. Robot on Impulse.

Man CoffeeEdge, why'd you bite Spuffin's head off? He didn't do anything wrong.

I have some of these games too, otherwise I'd hop on the pack.

I already have Audiosurf, Dawinia and World of Goo. My daughter loves the demo for Crayon Physics. I played the demos of Braid and Blueberry game and was not impressed enough to buy them.

Is Everyday Shooter any good? And the other games I have never heard of which may not be bad. Like the last Indie package I got from Steam had Trails 2 which turned out to be really fun.

Dang it. I just bought Braid for $10 a few weeks ago. If I didn't have that I'd be all over this. Still a bit tempted.

Everyday Shooter is great, but it works terribly with a keyboard and the 360 controller isn't much extremely accurate; it's a great game, but better on PS3 (unless you hook a Dualshock 3 up to your pc). As for others: The Path is really strange and people tend to have polar opinions on it; Mr. Robot is really highly acclaimed, but not for everyone and probably the oldest game in the pack; Darwania is worth a play through for strategy fans; I just picked up Crayon Physics with this and am hooked, your daughter will love it all the way through...you probably will, too; I haven't played Gish.

I have too many of these games for this deal to be worth it. Would definitely jump on it if I had none of these games though, for Audiosurf and World of Goo alone.

I own Braid and World of Goo. The rest of the games on offer here might still be worth $30, but man... if I could gift my extra copies, I'd be sold.

Braid and World of Goo are easily worth $30 by themselves, incidentally.

I'd love to have a few of these games, and the deal is pretty good, but I don't really want to litter my games list with 5 other games that I'd probably never play. (Not saying the games look bad necessarily, just that I probably won't have time to get into all of them)

I wish they let you make your own 5-game bundle from the list of 10 for $20.

I already have Braid on Xbox, World of Goo on Steam, and Darwinia on CD in a box from the Circuit City clearance 18 months ago, still unplayed. Half of the others are of interest, but not enough to eat the dupes, since we can't gift. If this was 10-for-$20, then I'd be all over it.

This is a pretty great selection of games, unfortunately I already have Braid on 360 and Everyday Shooter on PS3. Even so, excluding the games that I already have, $3.75 each is a reasonable deal.

I got excited when I saw Mr. Robot! But at the time I thought it was Moonpod's other title Starscape. I would have loved to get that game in this pack, but I'm sure Mr. Robot will be equally enjoyable!

And how the hell does Aquaria keep getting passed over in these indie game compilations? I've been waiting for that thing to go on sale again for almost a year now.

The Path and Crayon Physics look great. I'd rather see sale prices for each individual game instead since I only want two of them.

grabbed the 20$ pack.

was mainly interested in braid and the path.

blueberry thing is the oddest of the bunch, i don't really know what the goal is. world of goo seems like the free flash physics games like fantastic contraption. everyday shooter is a little difficult to control with the keyboard, maybe it'd be better with a gamepad.

having great time with the path.
What sucks is I've been really wanting a sale on Crayon Physics Deluxe.
You and me both.

But you could think of the larger package as "buy Crayon Physics Deluxe for full price, get a whole bunch of other indie games for $10." And if you haven't played Braid or World of Goo, then that might just be the best $10 you'll ever spend.

I could think of it that way, if I didn't already have all of those and more besides. This is a great package, but with too many games that folks have probably already bought.

I completely agree. It's fantastic for people who own none of these titles, but it does feel slightly punitive for those of us who have already been purchasing indie games.

If I didn't already own Braid and World of Goo I'd pick this up without hesitation. Been wanting Cartoon Physics Deluxe for a while.

For whatever it's worth: That is my situation exactly, and I'm probably still going to buy the bigger pack. $30 for Crayon Physics and 7 other games is still a very good deal in my view.

I owned none of these and was waiting for a good price on a few of them (Crayon Physics, Braid, World of Goo), so the $30 pack was a no-brainer.

I want Mr. Robot, own no other games. But it's not part of the $20 bundle! Why not?! I feel like $10 is so much in comparison...
