special or LE of games you regret buying?

I thought about buying Halo Reach Legendary. Glad I didn't, would have regretted it for sure. Can't think of any LE's I've regretted lately.

Perfect Dark Zero Limited Edition, there was no content on the extra DVD, and the game itself doesn't have southpaw, which makes it almost unplayable to me.

halo 3 legendary edition - its the biggest piece of shit.

dj max limited edition bundle for psp - worst experience from a company store ever. they used 2-3 magazines PAGES for packing and the bundle arrived damaged. i think it was the best bundle for the psp at the time (maybe even the only one in the U.S.) but what they did to ship the damn thing overshadowed its rights to being awesome.

None really. I probably could have held off for an even lower price on the Resistance 2 CE.

I bought

Machinarium CE for $20
Stalker CoP LE for $10
Sacred 2 CE $10
Ys OiF $25

The next LEs I plan to get is Ys 7 and Deus Ex whenever that is released.

I would say reach. I don't regret it to much but the fact that it went down so fast. Halo 3 was not that great of a LE and to longer to get to the price Reach is at now. I think the Reach set is worth over 100 bucks just wish I would have held off as I would have saved and it would have only been about 2 or 3 months after it came out that I would have got it for around 80 bucks.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2 :( The game wasn't as horrible as they made it sound, but I felt like the steelbook felt cheaply made in comparison to the Ultimate Sith Edition version.

Bioshock 2. I don't really regret buying it, but I regret buying it when I did. It can be found easily for $20 or $30 now, and I paid the full $100 at launch. I thought it was great, really liked it, but that $80 difference still hurts.

Lunar Silver Star Harmony. Same as above, bought it for full price at launch, and didn't even get around to playing it before it had dropped to like $17 at Amazon.

Resident Evil 5. The extras are crap, and I didn't care much for the game either.

Fallout 3. Only because I bought the wrong version. I bought the 360 version because of the exclusive DLC, but I hardly ever played my 360. Then they announced the DLC for the PS3 version and I was kicking myself. I ignored the exlcusive DLC announcement for Fallout New Vegas though and bought the PS3 version anyways. Glad I did now that the PS3 DLC is coming out in like ten days.

I think the better question is, has there been an LE or Collection that has been worth it?

I miss when preorders would mean you get an LE or goodie for free instead of paying premiums for them now. (Even though some preorder bonuses are still good)

dead space, mega man 9 press kit
dead space, mega man 9 press kit
I think Dead Space only seems worth it because of how rare it is, and how much it seems to be worth. It was a pretty awful value really, the game was worth $60, the DVD maybe $15, and the graphic novel $15 as well. But the ULE cost $150 when it was released, meaning you're paying an extra $60 for the box, patch, making of disc, and lithograph, which really might be worth an extra $20, but not $60.

Multi-game collections are sometimes good, but I've never been one to run out and buy something just because it's being advertised as a "limited edition." I just buy the game and if it's one I really like I'll just pick up the OST / strategy guide / artbook later.

The biggest regret/ripoff for me was the Transformers Cybertron Edition from Gamestop. It came with.......a slip cover. And inside was a "bonus" disc with a transformers the movie trailer, the transformer game trailer, and a video on the cast talking about the movie.

Man that thing sucked.
Batman Arkham Asylum. Cheap ass plastic crappy batarang!!!!
Really? Damn and I always thought that set would have been awesome.

Soul Calibur IV for $60. I figured it wasn't a bad price for it since it launched at $80 but man, the contents sucked. Luckily, I was able to trade the game for another new release I wanted based on a trade request and later picked up the game for $10 during BB's clearance.

Another one I kinda wanna say is Metal Gear Solid 4. I loved the game but $80 for that LE was a complete rip since it wasn't at all limited.

(Even though some preorder bonuses are still good)
I know one LE that I'm happy I bought was the one for Bioshock 1. The Big Daddy statue is easily one of the best LE-included items I've seen.

For more of a bragging rights perspective than LE value, I'd have to say Mass Effect 1 CE and Mass Effect 2 LE (360), since the first one was extremely hard to find at a reasonable price without preordering, and the second one on 360 was pretty scarce post-release.

From the "do I regret it" perspective, I'd have to say SW TFU2, SFIV, Batman Arkham Asylum and GOW 3 CE. More hype than "value" for the extra money on the CE/LE pricing.

Epic Mickey...WTF! That flimsy figure fell apart in my hand right out of the box! Then when I put it back together, it could barely stand up on it's own! Oh, and those cheap so-called "skins"? They're like the stickers you get from those quarter capsule machines...but worse! That CE was a POS!

I think it's the fact that the prices plummet a few months after a Collector's Edition comes out. That is probably the biggest turn off and what makes you feel regret.

Regret: God of War III Ultimate Edition, Aliens vs. Predator Hunter Edition

God of War III Ultimate Edition ended up with a price drop about five minutes after being released. After checking out "Pandora's Box", I was fairly disgusted with how cheap it looked. The game was a glitch-fest on my 60GB PS3 to the point where I had to stop playing it for fear that it would corrupt more than just my save file. There was nothing the least bit "Limited", "Special", and particularly not "Ultimate" about packaging a buggy normal version of a game with a big hunk of plastic.

Alien vs. Predator Hunter Edition was just a debacle of epic proportions; requiring anyone who wanted their broken facehugger replaced to actually open the box and grab a code card buried deep inside. Replacement facehugger is great, but only for those who didn't pay full retail for the thing. Ugh.

Don't Regret at All: Assassin's Creed II Master Assassin Edition. Pure coolness. Ditto for Mass Effect 2 CE. Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition was worth it just for the game, but the guide was likely the single most useful item ever included in a CE/LE. Fallout 3 Survival Edition is amazing and the Two Worlds II Royal Edition is a beast.

On the Fence: Bioshock 2 CE. Considering the extras included, this one seemed good at MSRP. However, after peeling back the layers, it was dramatically over-produced, the quality of the outer slipcover packaging is atrocious (prone to being ripped to shreds just by handling it gently), the game is only "meh", and it's almost impossible to display in a collection. 2K is simply plagued by quality control issues and has been for quite some time.

this sums it all up. unless its a true limited edition, i dont think anything is really worth picking up at the time of release because you know for a fact that in a few months, the value of what you bought would definitely come down in price.

fucking yes. The metal box it came in was such a piece of shit and the shirt was some flimsy see through thing that wore out way too soon.

Just one: Halo Reach Legendary Edition, for every time I go to a video game store and see those things at 60 ish, I want to kick Master Chief in the nuts.

In the future, I've noticed one thing that you can use to gauge whether a CE/LE/SE will be overproduced. If the packaging is extravagant or an included extra is something that would need to be special produced (and there isn't many companies producing such things), the item in question will probably be overproduced.

This is due to the company needing to order said component in bulk in order to get it to a reasonable price for mass market consumption. Take Alan Wake or Bioshock 2 for example, with Alan Wake, Microsoft had to order the packaging in bulk (the book style packaging) as well as the book in bulk. With Bioshock 2, Take 2 had to order both the Vinyl Record (which are incredibly expensive to print if not in a bulk quantity) and a 200 page hard back book. In both cases, neither company could afford to put out a small print run and make the product truly limited.

On the other hand, both the Mass Effect LEs and the Demon Souls LEs came with nothing extravagant. Therefore it was perfectly logical for EA and Atlus to keep the things truly limited, they had no need to order in bulk.

This same rule can be applied to almost all of the other LEs I've seen people say they regret: GoWIII (that box probably needed to be bulk ordered), Batman: AA (no way that Batarang was cheap, or the case for that matter), etc.

I don't think things like action figures need to be bulk ordered since there is several hundred places that can make those.

In any case, I'm going to apply this rule to the Duke Nukem CE that was announced this week and put my money on "not limited" for the time being. I know they've said it was limited (and the picture clearly shows a limit of 2,000 for each platform on the certificate), but I think that is just hype. The picture has a "subject to change" disclaimer underneath it in any case. That bust seems like a "bulk" item to me.

In any case, I'm pretty satisfied with all the LEs I've bought. I always buy the LE over the standard edition if there is DLC included, because I can usually sell the DLC to bring the cost of the LE down to lower than the standard.

I don't really regret any of my CE purchases, but the closest contender is Bioshock II.

I bought it for $100, but I basically parted it out for about $95 after I beat it ($40 credit for the game, $30 for the artbook, $15 for the album, $10 for the posters, and I still have the CD and box), and rebought a sealed one at $50. If I hadn't parted out the first set, I would have regretted it.

The other one is Lunar on PSP, because I waited a two months to buy it, because my GF was hounding me about it selling out, since Lunar is one of her favorite games. Sure enough, a few weeks after I buy it, it's half price.

Vanquish LE from UK is undecided for me right now. The figure is in a crappy box, and the game is just shrinkwrapped to the box. Talk about bad packaging.

I regret not buying Bayonetta Infinite Climax though. Probably my biggest gaming regret. Second is listening to my GF and opening my Demon's Souls LE. Man, I need to stop listening to her.

I haven't bought a LE package since Working Designs went out of business. Their stuff was pretty damn sweet and truly high-quality.

With that said, I don't buy them nowadays because:

1) Often they are cheap looking

2) It's just too much crap that is cluttering my damn living space. A large one bedroom apt is not big enough to hold the world's plastic supply. :D

3) I am not paying the extra $30, $40, or even $50 for some worthless piece of shit. That can buy another brand new game on release date (or several games on discount, at times).

That's me though lol :p

For the people regretting buying Lunar before it went half price, I can sympathize because I regret NOT buying it when it was half price and now I can't find in cheaper than MSRP anywhere.

Dead space 2. Mostly bought for the DLC for the gun and armor. Paid an extra $30. Then I log on to PSN and see 5 different DLC armor/guns for less than $10. AHAHAHAHHA! Could have bought all of them for the extra price of the CE.

Can't think of one at the moment, but I know one a friend of mine happens to regret. The collectors edition of FFXII for the PS2 sells complete for 10dollars these days. And he picked it up for 60 used a while back :p. It has a pretty decent case, but the extras aren't stellar.

It's one of the few games I own two of.

I had that one shortly after release, but I don't really regret that. No FF game talky holds value. The steel case is nice though.

LE of Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom for PS2. It was $200 and all you got was a special red PS2 case and a "signed" picture of Dora and Boots. I can't believe I spent that kind of money on cr@p like that!!!!

(yes, i'm kidding.)

I don't buy special editions anymore, I just don't have the money for them, and like others have said the stuff clutters up my room, which has hardly any space left in it anyways. The only exception is if the special edition is cheaper or the same price as the regular, then I will get it. I only play DS, Wii, PSP and PS2 for the current gen, if you can even call PS2 current gen, so limited editions aren't much of a concern to me.

I used to buy games on release for the bonus items, but its not worth it anymore, since the bonus items just sit around and collect dust, and usually aren't worth much on their own. A lot of bonus items are of poor quality too. The games usually drop in price to half the cost of new one in a matter of months.

The only bonus I have seen semi-recently that was REALLY GOOD was the Phoenix Wright one with the stylus and case! Oh and I liked the Pokemon Stylus bonuses, which I still use all the time when I play my DS.

Little Big Planet 2 CE

The 'game ends/book ends' are some cheap pressed cardboard crap and the Sackboy plush included with it looks like it was assembled by cross eyed sweat shop workers.:puke:

Not worth the additional money at all.

I'd have to say the Perfect Dark Zero was the worst I bought. Follow that with Force Unleashed 2. Thumbdrive looks kinda cool, but the extras weren't worth it I was tempted to get the AvP but never pulled the trigger.
final fantasy xiv CE. ugh.... that failed on so many levels
Add FFXIV CE to my list of regrets, too. On top of that, I regret the ever-infamous Hellgate London game's CE.

I also almost pull the trigger on AvP.
I notice that five below has AvP for the PC. Is this game that bad? Drop fast.

The YS limited edition for PSP is really nice, it even comes with a cloth map, I just bought it at Gamestop for 29.99 but the one I bought is for a friend, sadly they didn't have any more so I couldn't buy it for myself. The cloth map looks like good quality.

I'd have to say I regret damn near every one I bought. Which is a rather extensive list which includes....

Gears of War 1 and 2
Perfect Dark Zero
(Technically this isn't a limited edition but it sure is damn hard to find) The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition
Fallout 3
Dead Rising 2

and too many others I cannot remember, I'm a couple hundred miles away from my game collection, and I can't just look over and point out all of em.

The ones I DON'T regret though is the Bioshock 1 because of the big daddy figure. That thing sat in the box in the plastic on top of my desk for well over 2 years....and then somehow he fell off my desk and the arms broke off :(

I also don't regret the Marvel vs Capcom 3 one either, being a big Marvel fan the free month subscription to the MDCU pays the difference right there and I am on there daily reading something, as well as the free comic and free access to Jill and Shuma is a nice touch.

Im not a collector so they are all junk to me. I think the only collectors edition games I ever bought that I didnt regret were the two Lunar games, and that only because I made a crap load of money when I sold them years later.
