Not only that, but a box WAY bigger than the actual book, so it gets tossed and rattled around as much as possible during shipping. I'd say 2 out of every 3 books I get from Amazon come damaged anymore.

I ended up getting a membership to Barnes and Noble. Online prices are comparable to Amazon, they have coupon codes pretty regularly, and they seem to do a little better job at shipping stuff. If you do use B&N, I've had better luck just ordering one book at a time. That way, they can use the cardboard book "envelopes" with the extra end crush protection vs boxes with one air pillow.

That said, I still use Amazon when it's the cheaper route.

Yeah, I agree on B&N packaging, as I've got maybe one damaged from them, and when I did, it's an easy exchange at my local store. As for their membership, it's become shit compared to the last several years, the same as most reward programs I guess. Prices used to be almost identical to Amazon, but for me, the last 6 months, I haven't had one book be cheaper at B&N. And the coupons used to be way more frequent, and I would get 2 of the best ones each time(4 total coupons). Now they rarely give any and when they do, it's just two,and only one is for the discount, the other is for the cafe or whatever.

Even with the 20% off coupons, the books are so much cheaper on Amazon, I'm still better off shopping there. I had several coupons that went to waste this year, as there was nothing I could buy where it would be a benefit to use. This only really started once I had renewed this year, which sucked, as I could have saved my money. If I don't see any major changes within the next 4-5 months, I probably won't be renewing the next time around, as I just don't shop there enough to make it worth the cost.

As a former employee of Barnes and Noble, I would not recommend the membership to anyone.

Thanks for the heads up, but where was this info 2+ years ago. LOL

No, but seriously, I've always got my $25 out of the deal each year, as I bought enough to warrant it. But this past year for the most part, they haven't nearly been matching Amazon like they used to, so it's become pretty useless in recent months.

Picked up the Art of Fallout 4 for $14 and some change after a 10% coupon you can clip plus the $5 off code.

For that price and it being around 366 pages, I had to get it

Caught me off guard with this one. Thought it was actually a book of just Han Solo related art til I saw the cover and realized it is art from the Solo spin off movie. God that movie was terrible..but let us know how the book is!

Do you guys think the Amano Biography Limited Edition is truly limited? I can't believe there are only 500 copies when Amazon and B&N are still selling it. Not sure if I should cancel my preorder in case there's a major price drop after it's released.

I disagree, I annoyed the film a lot. People just had weird expectations for it.

I was probably right in the middle on Solo as I thought most of it up until the actual Kessel Run was pretty solid but regardless, the art book is good. It's a bit different from the other ones they've done for the new SW films in that they don't talk about the preproduction quite as specifically as they did in the Force Awakens or Rogue One art books. It's based more on interviews like Last Jedi one but there's not as much about story elements they abandoned or changed. What it does best vs the others is lay out easter eggs and inspirations (cool stuff like Lando's ascot having the pill lights from the Death Star as its motif or how the red flags on the speeders of the Enfys Nest gang are menat to evoke Kurosawa's Ran).

Weirdly, the forward, by the book's author, is really good. I don't know if I've ever been able to say that about any art book but it was really evocative of what they were going for with the film. Maybe painted a cleaner picture of what the film was reaching for than any comments in the pages that follow.

In short: it's got some of the best preproduction art of any of the recent SW art ofs, but if you want juicy details about how the production changed when they changed directors, you're going to be let down.

I don't know. It's a lot even though I ordered it at $110.

Stopped at Half Price Books today, always go there to check out the video game section for art books. Brand new copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 arrbook for 20 bucks. Nice pickup. It's the collected works. See it selling for around 30 to 40 plus dollars. Figured I probably wouldn't find it any cheaper.

Half price books is price gouging. See some art books priced at 50 to 60 bucks. Wtf!

It is finally happening!

I skipped out on them way back when they were originally released and have been kicking myself ever since after they skyrocketed in price!

The Art of Darksiders and The Art of Darksiders II HARDCOVERS are being reissued (April 23rd and May 28th respectively), starting currently at $49.99 on Amazon right now. For those that follow art books I am sure you are all aware that even the softcovers go for well over $50 used! The softcovers had horrible binding problems and I honestly have never handled one of the hardcovers so I am not sure of those but regardless I hope the binding quality is great this time around.

I was really hoping that there would be a chance of this happening due to the 3rd game coming out!

Thanks Broly for the info on the Darksiders 1 & 2 HC art books. Got them preordered and I can't wait for them. Hopefully they go down in price before release.

My Dragon Quest art book had quite a bit of damage to the side and bottom corner. Hopefully my replacement will be in good shape. I'm pretty sure it was damaged before they shipped it. At least my Amano Biography Limited that came in the same box looks perfect (at least on the outside since I haven't opened it yet). It's still in stock, so I may have made a mistake preordering it.

My Art of Fallout 4 came in today and its big. Looked inside for a bit and the art is fantastic. Definitely worth the $14 I paid for it.

It's about Japanese folklore.

LOL, even I have my limits in regards to what I own, but I did recently see this book at B&N and it was on my radar. When I saw the picture you posted, I actually thought it was this book, as they have some what similar covers. https://www.amazon.c...lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I have that one on my Amazon wish list for awhile now, but I tend to try and grab books that may go OOP, and then demand high prices. Neither one of these will probably fall in to those categories, so I'll grab these when the deals are right, or if have extra funds laying around(which hasn't happened in a minute). LOL

Well, Bitmap Books has officially opened their US store, and along with that, is a new offering. The CRPG Book: A Guide To Computer Roll-Playing Games. https://bitmapbooks...._eid=4f43958b0f

Looks like another great Bitmap offering(tons of pics in the details), and hopefully I'll be able to grab a copy of the collector's edition before they sell out.

I keep hoping they'll start distributing through Amazon or Barnes and Noble. We've been spoiled with discounted books and it's hard to go back to paying MSRP.

Not really art books, but definitely gaming related. Third Editions launched a new Kickstarter for their Kingdom Hearts books. These are already published in French. The campaign is to translate and publish the first one in English.

Yeah, I agree some discounts would be nice, but I save pretty well across so many other publications, that I pretty much pay for these occasional books that aren't discounted. Now if they happened more often, than I would be in trouble, but there spread out pretty good, which makes the no discount easier to swallow.

I know there is no way it's going to happen, but I would love to see the guide book for the first game get an English release if this one does well. Not only is it extremely useful for understanding the very complex and opaque story, but it actually contains the all-important ending E within it!
