EA Online Codes Free!

Is this only exclusive to Microsoft or will Sony update their store next? Regardless, EA & Free in the same sentence? Well damn.. this is great news! I wonder if they are just trying to win people over before they fuck you over again with the XBOX One/PS4 & all it's DRM goodness.
I read that Alice can only be accessed from the sequel's menu, so you need the disc
That's correct, you need the Alice: Madness Returns disc to play Alice 1. It's technically DLC for MR, not its own XBLA game.
Looks like EA is finally offering some online codes for free! Also, American McGee's Alice is being offered for free on Xbox Live! :applause:

I didn't go through the others yet but Alice: Madness Returns required to play. and Purchase American McGee’s Alice™ today, or download it for free as part of your Online Pass, and experience where the madness began!

Grypther is right. Alice is definitely not "Free". You still have to have Alice: Madness Returns to play the original Alice.

OP should probably re-word the title.

Yep. You need the game disc to access American McGee's Alice.

Despite the caveat with Alice 1, this is awesome. Alice is probably the most substantial online pass add-on but the passes for the BioWare games and Reckoning also contain a lot of good single player content.
Is original American McGee Alice free thanks to this pass?
Despite being a standalone game, it is DLC for Alice: Madness Returns. You need to have the MR disc to play it.

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but pretty much every comment above you answered this question.

I'm a little ashamed to say this. But I clicked on all the links, and aside from the Skate 3 pass, I already owned every single thing. I buy to many games... :/

...This floors me. I was surprised enough to hear they were doing away with online passes, but the fact that they have actually retroactively applied this to some of their games... I never would have seen this coming.

I wouldn't fully call it an act of goodwill... It is, after all, simply undoing an industry practice that was overly restrictive that EA themselves championed... But this is a good resolution to one of my major complaints about EA. Wow. I can start buying some of their games again.

I even answered it twice, but obviously the first time didn't take. ;)

They weren't alone. THQ and Sony used online passes as well. As far as I know, Sony still does. I think the EA had a good idea when Project $10 started. They gave you bonuses for buying new rather than punishing you for buying used. When it switched to getting removed for buying used, I wasn't so thrilled.

For anyone curious, I tried to remember what each pass actually gives. Some are required to get all achievements, some give you included bonuses, some just give online access.

- Alice (full original Alice - requires disc; includes achievements)
- Kingdom of Amalur (extra quests and arena stuff)
- Dragon Age 1 (Stone Prisoner DLC - extra quests and character (Shale); includes achievements)
- Dragon Age 2 (Black Emporium DLC - bonus items and shop)
- Shift 2 (probably just online)
- Bulletstorm (just gives you online perks AFAIK, online was always free)
- Bad Company 2 (probably just online, maybe other perks)
- Skate 3 (required for online for achievements, includes "share pack")
- Mass Effect 2 Cerberus Network (extra quests, character (Zaeed), achievements)
- Medal of Honor (probably just online)

It should be noted that Skate 3 has since shut down its "sharing" feature (thus unable to earn those achievements relating) - online should work just fine.

The Black Emporium DLC for DA2 doesn't have achievements.

Weird thing about the achievements for Alice, the base game only has 900 points; the DLC actually brings it up to 1000.

This is pretty awesome. I'm redeeming them all to just have them saved. Forgot about Alice requiring the disc! :/

You're right, I remember why I needed it before - you can use it to pick up missed crafting resources since they wind up at the Black Emporium for purchase.

Hey, the Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network and Medal of Honor Online Passes can't be grabbed online. Both tell me: "Sorry. This item is not available for purchase from this device." I grabbed the rest.

Try purchasing it through your console.

I'm okay with it needing the disc, now I don't have to worry about it being a new or used copy which is basically all I was worried about. Plus I finally got the Stone Prisoner which I never had for DA:O

"A representative from EA confirmed that the company is phasing out its existing Online Passes and provided Polygon with the following statement which details how the process will proceed. "As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well," the representative wrote. "We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.
"Players will see it first with some EA Sports titles, where a prompt to enter an Online Pass code will no longer appear in-game; with other titles we are simply making Online Passes available free of charge online.
"These are rolling updates that are taking effect over the next several weeks. We hope players continue to enjoy our games and online services for a long time to come.""

They didn't listen to us. They are now just buddy buddy with Microsoft, and with them essentially phasing out used games EA doesn't have to worry about losing any money off their games.

I found a few more free add-ons for some EA games. I'm not sure if these are new drops or if they are old and unrelated to the removal of online passes, but maybe they'll be useful.

Skate 3 and SHIFT 2 for me man....still awesome that they are doing this for people who got these games used and don't have the passes though!
Can Alice be accessed if I buy the GoD version of Madness Returns?
Yes. This will let you access Alice from the main menu of Madness Returns, whether it be the disc version or the GOD version.

I'm looking at my active downloads right now. If I cancel, will these still be in my purchase history to download later? TIA.
Damn, this is just for the original PC Alice game, not for the actual Alice Madness Returns game?
They're not giving away free games. Just online passes for games. In the case of Alice: Madness Returns, the online pass entitles you to download and play the original American McGee's Alice. You still need Madness Returns to play the original Alice.
Why are you in awe? They only got rid of them because of the fiasco with the Xbox One.
They got rid of them in anticipation that the Xbox One and possibly the PS4 will have built-in used DRM. As such, every EA game will have something much stronger and more restrictive than their current online pass system.

Thanks. Just picked up the Dragon Age dlc, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Alice.

Thanks for the extra games. Without out your post, what would some of us look like? 404

I misread it when I first read the title, thought they were giving away Madness Returns for free, but grabbing the online pass now will make up for hopefully finding a used one for cheap down the road worth it :)
