DriveClub Digital Version $39.99 / $24.99 For PS+ Members via PSN Store

I don't even like racing games, but every time I hear this title I resent giving sony so much $ (PS+ thru 2017)

You should probably get over not getting a glorified demo by now.
Sony promised this as a launch game; then was suppose to release both a PS Plus version and the retail version at the same time. Glorified demo or not sony should have not made promises they couldnt keep to their fan base who was looking forward to this game. Im not big on driving sims but this was a big time fumble by sony.

build a bridge and drive over it in this great game

I could be completely wrong (I only have a PS3, not PS4), but didn't Sony say this would be free (if I'm following you correctly) for PS+ members? Was that a limited time thing or was it never offered for free? Is the launch of this game just a mess?

dont forget sonys spend $100 on PSN store get $15 back, this plus a year PS+ would add up to 74.98 meaning you need to spend another $25.02 to get back $15

Season pass would get you almost there.

I'm way late to the party for this game, but what I understood was there would be a PS+ version. So, not the entire game. I think it's about 20% of the game free for anyone. I just don't think the servers will handle the influx of users, and you know they'll base their opinions on how good the game is when millions of people are playing at the same time.

Developers have constantly been updating the game for paying users, and I don't have a problem with ignoring the free version, even if that was promised. I don't care if the free version never comes.

ya a free copy with not all of the fixings of the retail version was suppose to be released with the launch of the console and then as we all know that was pushed back and was suppose to release along side the retail version. still hasn't happened. the discount they are offering today is on the full retail version not the free copy plus members were suppose to get which is supposdley *gasp* still on its way "someday" according to the dev at driveclub.

and yes launch of drive club was a disaster servers couldnt handle the first day load of people and then it took weeks if not months to get them stable. the driveclub franchise as a whole off to a bad start and if they were hoping to make driveclub 2 their is not a whole lot of positive momentum behind them to do that..

Thanks for the info. Haven't followed it closely so I was confused when I saw the discount for PS+ members. I didn't realize it wasn't the full game either.

It's changed so many times. Originally it was the full game free for ps+ on release day of the ps4. Then it got delayed. Then it got changed to a ps+ version that was stripped down but still release at the same time as the regular version. Then it changed to the ps+ version will be released shortly after the retail version. And finally changed to "we don't know if we will even release a ps+ version.

Because of those constant changes and lies I refuse to give them money.

The $24.99 price for PS+ members is the full game. You can also buy additional DLC.

This is different than what people are complaining about.

At e3 2013 when they announced it, they announced it without mentioning it as a stripped back version. That's my point, used it for PR without explaining. That By itself would be excusable. That combined with everything that followed is not excusable and should not be supported

Still. Was never said you'd get the full version for free.

If you don't want to buy it that's fine. Doesn't mean no one else should.

i could've sworn they said it wouldn't be the entire game for free when it was announced

I'd like to see proof of that. I watched the original E3 reveal and nothing was said. Not on the video I watched.

The video from last year announcing the retail version was going on sale specifically talked about the ability to upgrade.

They probably original intended that everyone would get a locked version of the game with various dlc microtransactions to unlock stuff & no full retail version would exist, Blacklight style. How else would sony make a profit on an entirely free game. The main point is the complete game was never planned to be free.

This is a fantastic deal. But it is now normal pricing. You all complaining are seriously a bunch of crying babies. I've never seen so much irrational forum tears in all my life about one game. It's absurd at this point. The game is pure quality and one of the best simcade racers ever made. Grow up and deal with it. Have fun with your demo when you get it.

Their intent was to get people to buy a Ps4 in the first year because they announced that it would be free for the first year. They didn't care about making money on the game, they were trying to give people an incentive to move up to next gen right away

Eh. There are enough other racers that are better than this to not have to worry about supporting a shady company.

They never announced the full game was going to be free. If I remember correctly later that day it was clarified that it was a portion of the game and I think they even called it the ps+ version on stage but just didn't explain what that meant.

Understood.. I actually commented on this a few posts ago. They left it vague on purpose for PR reasons. They later clarified. That by itself would be OK. The problem is they continually back pedalled on their promise until it got to the point that they had completely eliminated everything they originally promised.

While you are on your soapbox, the rest of us will enjoy the game. Have fun.
That's your choice.. A disappointing choice, but still yours to make. Let's just hope things like this become common because businesses realize that users will allow them to lie and then backpedal so they can make more money

I was never lied to. I got a PS4 last week.

I'm more than satisfied with the content I've received for my $25. I'm also more than satisfied looking at the update history since the title launched. I see a developer commitment to making the best game they can. it's disappointing that people can't appreciate that.

They originally promised a ps+ version that was not the full game. They had issues and delayed that version and have been constantly updating people as they know more. Most recent update is that they are very close to releasing it. Not sure where the back pedaling was.

Here here. Why didn't Sony announce this at E3? Oh wait they did a year ago I'm still waiting.

I'm sorry you are having issues understanding what I am writing.

I only feel bad for people that bought a PS+ enticed by the offer of some version of the game.  Then again you probably should have known better.  I feel bad for the people that bought it day one with the server issues in the online only game.  Then again you probably should have known better.

Hopefully lessons were learned for all parties involved.

I don't know if they ever said free but the repeated clarification that it would not be the full game at the very least implies that it would be a PS+ benefit. Clearly they gave up on a separate PS+ version since this is the full game. I have a feeling that a free extended demo type of game (like the Fast and Furious version of Forza Horizon 2 on Xbone) was probably the original intent but the cost of making such a game led them to scrap those plans and just do one digital version.

I guess the $15 discount is a nice little bonus for PS+ but I do feel a little mislead whether intended or not.

Edit: Actually reading that EU Playstation blog post is exactly what I thought. 11/55 tracks. I'd say with 99.9% confidence that would have been free. But it was probably scrapped as a cost cutting move, particularly since the game wasn't a huge hit.

OK so this may sound like a stupid few questions, but hey..

I LOVE  driving/racing games. Realistic or not (physics), as long as it has lots of cars (from normal, to hyper cars). I drive a 2008 Civic SI with a Kraftwerks superchargers (Rotrex baby!) making 390hp/251tq at 10.5PSI.   I do prefer games like GT5/GT6 and Forza

But I don't like to play games "online" really, I prefer solo gaming. Is this game going to be wasted on someone who is semi anti-social when it comes to online play?

Also, does it feature "normal" cars or just mid/high end exotics? And is it tuneable, like GT5 and GT6? As in, buy parts - tweak cars, and re-race? I don't want to just drive around Lykens, Lambo's, and Astons. I like normal "affordable" cars, and mainly imports.

Basically yes it was.. At first before launch of PS4 they said it will be the same game minus a FEW tracks and a Few cars. But essentially ps+ members would get the whole game. Then after the delay it changed to ps+ members would get a stripped down bigger demo version.. however we have nonthing. To those of us who haven't supported this game by paying for it due to the mis promises, that doesn't make us haters, just dont like the vad customer service lol

Well if it's missing a few tracks and cars then that's not the full game.

Nice. Thanks. I bought the disc version the day it came out, but got rid of it due to all the issues with the game. How is it now?

If you want to nicpick thats fine, but for free missing a very little bit of content isn't worth complaining.. but the what they changed it to is another story. To each is own though

That's not nitpicking, that's the truth lol.

I think two years of holding a grudge is pretty petty, but what do I know.

I think you should buy the game at GS, used, for $26.99 after PUR. Play it for a week. Keep it/return it/return and buy digital. Base your decisions on the game itself, or move on. Chances are by this point you aren't going to look at it objectively, so you might as well rate it on the full experience than the gimped one you've been holding onto hope this long for.

I always wondered why there was such an aggressive DC defense force on GAF, but now I understand. There is not a single conversation about this game to be had without this coming up.
