I am super tempted by the DMC bundle but I’ve never been able to get into DMC games. They’re so heavily combo centered and I’ve never been good at long strings of fast input combos...

Should I go for it anyway?

Unless you're willing to learn there isn't much reason to get them honestly. DMC3 and 4 in particular are just vehicles for excellent combat and nothing else gameplay-wise. There is absolutely nothing more to string you along like interesting levels to explore or anything like leveling/character customization to keep you going. It's all combat all day.

Honestly in my opinion if you have ever wanted to get into this specific style of game but struggled I actually recommend the reboot (which is on sale right now as well.) It's the same combat foundation as the main games but it's slower and everything is simplified/dumbed down in some way. It's basically training wheels for the combat system which I think is a totally fine thing and was part of what Ninja Theory was going for anyway.

Anyone currently playing any of the Telltale games getting infinite load screens? Tried Minecraft Season One complete disc and it won’t load... It played fine before the delisting.
I still have a Walking Dead, Minecraft season 2, and Wolf to play on disc, along with some other downloaded ones like Game of Thrones. All episodes were previously downloaded, so that isn’t the issue. I think Minecraft is trying to connect to a server that no longer works or exists. Just curious if I’m screwed on them or not.

yes, i ran into the same problem a couple weeks ago with Batman. got almost done with the first episode then stopped. when i went to play the next day, it kept hanging at the load screen. tried closing it and restarting several times. tried playing while disconnected from the internet. tried deleting my save. tried deleting and redownloading the whole game. finally gave up and just deleted the game again. i didn't have any trouble with GoT but that was back in the first half of June so it could have the same problem now.

So I finally picked up Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit on sale after wanting to play it for YEARS, and now I find out that the U.S. version is fucking censored because apparently we're all a bunch of prudes (EU version is reportedly unaltered). God damn it all to hell, is it so much to ask to see some polygon boobage?

https://www.gamesrad...ere-censored/2/

Also, I've read that the plat is difficult to get because the QTEs (especially on hard mode) are quite frustrating and it seems to be glitched for many people. So that's just peachy. Looks like it's a game I'll be playing just for the story (and watching the sex scenes on YouTube, like some sort of degenerate).

Indigo Prophecy* was censored in the US because of sexual content, while Beyond: Two Souls was censored in Europe because of violence.

I'll gladly choose sex over violence, though.

* Even the game's name Fahrenheit was changed to avoid 'controversy'.

I played Batman Enemy Within last night with no issues, digital version. Maybe it's only impacting some games?

I just played through the disc version of Batman Enemy Within last night, everything worked including download episodes since it was a season pass disc.  Game was fantastic by the way, sad we won't be getting a third one especially since it was teased.  The one issue that kind of sucks is your choices after you complete an episode will no longer be compared to others as the servers that hold that information have been taken down.  I ordered Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 yesterday on eBay since I enjoyed the first and want to play it before they take down those files also.

Strange, I got the couldn't connect to server hit square to try again error so I assumed the servers were gone.  I wonder what was happening with mine then.

Playing dmc is easy.
You dont have to do any crazy combos unless you are playing the 1 hit kill mode to lessen the chance an enemy can take a swipe at you or if you are a high score nut. Combos are just like square x4 or square x2 triangle x1 and dodge. Stuff like that, enough to beat the regular game mode.

My favorite was 1&3, the reboot played fine but the characters suxed. 4 was really boring to me.

Wow, those censored screenshots are even worse than I thought. Remember when we had sex mini-games in God of War? Even Heavy Rain seemed to be more graphic than that. I despise censorship of any kind; I just hate it when faceless people get to decide what content is "appropriate" or not for the masses. Just recently, the new Leisure Suit Larry game got delisted on PS4 and Switch for undisclosed reasons. When I reached out to the publishers, they said they ran into an issue with the ESRB and had to remove a scene in order to qualify for the same rating (the PC version remains intact). I'm just sick of it.

What's even worse about the PS4 version of Indigo Prophecy is that it seems to be a direct port of the PS2 game, which looks and plays like shit. Even though a new remastered director's cut was released to PC in 2015, and this port was released in 2016. They botched it all around.

Is Detroit basically just an interactive movie? I don't want to add 22 avatars to my download list.

Interactive drama, but yeah, it's very cinematic. I'm not sure why people don't like movies or why it's considered a "niche" thing in gaming. It's very involving once you get into the story.

Edit: Also, avatars don't show up in your download list, only themes.

I'd rather just watch an actual movie

The experience is different (and potentially much better) when they're not condensed and simplified into a 2-3 hour package, or even a series of 2-3 hour packages.  It's like enjoying music that's not forced into a 3min template.

That said, the game in question (detroit) is pretty average.  Worth a playthrough for most.  Probably not for those who already know they dislike interactive / VN style games.

All I’m hearing is, “I don’t like these games, but the deal is making me want to spend money for the hell of it”. No, don’t buy it. Buy something you like.

I don't like video game movies because they generally have crappier acting and writing than an actual movie. I'd rather just watch an actual movie that isn't going to prompt me to push X every couple of minutes.

It's why I can't get into point and click adventures or visual novels either. It all just seems so boring to me.

(Disclaimer: Don't take this as a personal attack. I'm not saying these genres are bad per se, just that they are not for me.)

The acting and writing in Detroit is fine, acting in particular as they hired real actors for the game. Clancy Brown is a main character in the story and he is fantastic, I loved every scene with him and Connor (the android he's assigned with.) Where Detroit actually suffers is that it is an incredibly run of the mill AI story which I personally am not a fan of. I do not like this kind of story where androids suddenly gain sentience and they just hand wave it away as a software error and Detroit handles that stuff horribly. To the point where there is no reason for the game to be about androids other than it's an easy and inoffensive way to tell a story about racism.

The saving grace though is that the game gives you incredible control over the path the story unfolds. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much control you actually had over everything and despite not liking the story itself I was able to lead it on a path I liked and reach a conclusion that I was super happy with.

So is the PS4 version still worth it? Or is it better to pick up the steam version which can be had for just over $1 on some sites. I’d personally rather play on a couch than by a desk but if PS4 has performance issues and a lot of censoring that is a bit of a concern.

Yeah, if you haven't pulled the trigger yet, I'd definitely suggest getting the remastered edition on PC instead. Or at least the EU PS4 version (which is a full 1GB larger than the US version). The version I'm playing still has the PS2 logos and memory stick(!) messages so it's just a straight up port (and a poor one at that).

Edit: I absolutely loathe this game. The story is interesting and compelling enough, but the QTEs are the worst of any game I've ever played. It's like a game of rapid Simon Says using both thumbsticks, but it doesn't even correspond to the actions on-screen and instead obscures what you're seeing. And they go on for AGES. But that's not even the worst part, it's the L1+R1 trigger sequences that require you to alternate with lightning-fast precision. It feels like my wrists are about to fall off and I'm completely stalled in one section (and I'm playing on EASY). My god, I've always thought David Cage was a genius, but this game is absolute shit. I always remember one quote attributed to him: "In story-driven games, 'Game Overs' are a failure of game design." By that standard, Indigo Prophecy is a complete failure. (I don't know, maybe it just has to do with games being overall easier nowadays...)

So Indigo Prophecy is a "PS2 on PS4" game? I wonder if that's making the QTE's more difficult. We recently talked about a King of Fighters PS2 on PS4 game having input delay. I wonder if all PS2 on PS4 games have input delay? It would be most noticeable in fighting games and rhythm games.

I played Indigo Prophecy when it originally came out. I don't recall the QTE's being difficult, but I do remember them being implemented poorly.

Sort of? But you're also underestimating it.

For parts, especially at the beginning when it's teaching you things, it's like a adventure game. You're investigating a case. You walk around rooms, examine items, etc. Controls are very intuitive.

But soon enough, you're also making decisions with significant consequence. Finding one item may lead to situations that totally change everything else. Deciding to say so something may result in a character death. The flow chart of possibilities [visible to you after you finish a chapter] is immense.

The story is solid. Without getting deep into it, it's about the ai driving androids becoming sentient. From a writing standpoint, you're continually making decisions [as a human player] regarding the actions of ai minds, and this tension as you decide how you want these androids to act [as androids? As free souls? As you? As your interpretation of their android personality?] Is done extremely well.

There are some action scenes, though you get to set difficulty. On casual you win. On hard it's fast enough [still immersive controls] that a character, friend, or suspect can permanently die, affecting the entire rest of the story. The action is hard to describe... qt on speed and extremely well done, i suppose. And there is no 'fail state'... lose a fight and a suspect might escape, and that's okay. Story adapts perfectly.

Great character, great plot, great controls.

For the record, i despise interactive novels. I loved detroit.

I was thinking the same thing, but then I came upon a forum thread from 2005 complaining about the exact same thing. It comes right at the end of Chapter 42 (literally the last button sequence), and if you fail it, you have to repeat the entire mindnumbing 5-minute QTE battle that precedes it (which completely frays your nerves and reflexes). Turns out, all I needed was sufficient rest because I was able to finally get past it and complete the game today. Ironically, the key was to hit the buttons slower, not faster, which is completely unintuitive to what's happening on-screen. I guess my QTE skills are not what they used to be. :oldman: (I cannot imagine playing the game again on hard.)

Anyway, now that my initial anger has subsided, I will say that it's not a terrible game for the PS2 era, it just ages really, really poorly (with the grainy images, tank controls and bad camera angles). You can definitely see the ways Heavy Rain evolved from this and became an infinitely better game, so I suppose it was a necessary step in development.

Just needed to vent really quick.

I just completed Prey (2017) for the first time. Man, I loved it for the most part. Gameplay was fantastic and I just wanted to keep playing. However, I just gotta say, that ending absolutely sucked. I mean I could call it from a mile away after the way the game started, but damn the ending(s) was just so disappointing.

EDIT: Oh, and there literally isn't a trophy for just beating the game. You have to adhere to specific parameters in order to earn a trophy. Bizarre decision.

My stream of the zombie survival RTS They Are Billions is live (link).

Edit: Archive:

I enjoyed what I've played so far, but they didn't do a good job of adapting a PC-style RTS to work well on a controller. You're just controlling the cursor and interacting with the same UI that the PC version has, which is a bit too clunky for a controller. However, I used a keyboard and bluetooth mouse on my PS4 to play it, which works well despite it not offering the ability to remap the controls for keyboard when it's using maybe 10 keys at most. The gameplay itself works well for the survival RTS it's trying to be as you build and maintain defense while setting up buildings to mine and harvest the resources you need to keep your settlement going.
