Update 8/29: Throwback Map Pack 2

 • Content: GRAW 2 Throwback Pack 2
 • Price: Free
 • Availability: Not available in Japan
 • Dash Text: [ESRB: T (Teen) BLOOD,LANGUAGE,VIOLENCE] GRAW2 Throwback Pack 2 consists of 7 classic maps from Ghost Recon’s illustrious history. In addition to the 7 maps, there is a new game mode called Co-op Exfiltration. All of these maps have upgraded visuals and support all of GRAW2’s thousands of customizable game modes.
 • Size: 582.51 MB
The following are the seven new maps included in Throwback Pack 2, each accompanied by the name of the Ghost Recon title it originates from:
 • Ghost Town from GR: Summit Strike
 • Aral Sea from GR: Summit Strike
 • District from GR: Summit Strike
 • Bunkers from GR 2
 • Rocky Cove from GRAW
 • Boneyard from GRAW
 • River Depot from GRAW
In an interview with TeamXbox, Red Storm’s Lead Multiplayer Designer, Chris Bray explains the new co-op mode in full detail:
Exfiltration is a coop mode that plays out like a series of rescue missions. There are two preset game types, Evasion and POW. In Evasion, you start with an allied officer near your insertion and your team has to lead him through enemy patrols and vehicles to a designated helicopter extraction point. In POW, there are three officers that start in the captivity of enemy forces. You have to eliminate the guards, then lead the prisoners out of the area. The trick to POW is that once the guards are attacked, they could decide to eliminate the prisoners. This leads to some cool scenarios where players have to move into position without being detected, then coordinate a simultaneous attack on the guards around a prisoner to ensure success.
As with all other game modes, Exfiltration works across all maps and has customization options (number of allies, enemy difficulty, etc.). This is definitely a cool addition to our coop modes as it adds something more along the lines of a full mission, except compatible across all maps.

Update 2:

Awesome news to those who have played all the Tom Clancy games on the X360:

With the release of GRAW 2 this week those quick purchasers over at VideoGame News unearthed a few unlockable headgear items. What's interesting about these pieces of headgear is that they are only unlockable if you've previously played other Tom Clancy games on your Xbox 360. To unlock them, GRAW 2 will search your hard drive for game saves of either Rainbow Six: Vegas or Splinter Cell: Double Agent and unlock the corresponding headgear. It's kind of an interesting way to unlock goodies, but forces players to either borrow the other games or purchase them.

Taken from magazine GameInformer, a forumer over at N-Europe has put up a lot of the information from within the pages of said magazine about Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. From what is posted, it seems that it will be bigger and better than the original, and the new effects will look excellent.
The game is being developed by Red Storm and Ubisoft Paris, and has been in development since the original GR:AW hit the shelves. The new graphical updates (listed below) suggest that it will easily out-do the original GR:AW, which in itself was a great looking game.
 • Dynamic Weather Conditions: Taking place in sandstorms to howling rain, with subtle details such as after a rain storm the mission area glistens with moisture and features standing pools of water on the streets. As well as wind and weather simulation.
 • Object Translucency: Which allows players to see through surfaces like leaves and fabrics under the right lighting circumstances.
 • God Rays: Also a technique that simulates the way light goes around a surface that blocks light. God Rays allow the player to see the limits of light, creating the hard edges rays of light often seen pouring through cathedral windows.
 • Smoke Effects Techinques called Depth Sprite in which smoke particles move over and around objects like an actual gas, elminating the hardlines you see between clouds and surfaces you see in most games. The smoke also reacts to light and wind.
 • Improved particle effects that send debris flying in explosions and chips exploding off walls when struck by a bullet.
 • GR:AW 2 deals with the escalating turmoil just south of the US border.
 • It all takes place over 72 hours
 • It will have way more varied locations including fighting through the mountains, forests, etc.
 • Whats more the combat will be on both sides of the border, Mexico and the US appearently.
 • the first section of Graw2 will take place around the Mexican City of Juarez, 2nd in a war torn urban Center, the final tasks players with repelling a full fledged invasion of US soil for control over El Paso Texas.
 • In another demo the a smoke cloud was forced away from a sudden explosion, and the light from the fire reflected off the particles in the cloud in real time.

Looks pretty much the same but then again those aren't high-res shots. If its as good as the first, I think UBISoft will have another sure hit.

Better late then never...Co-Op Collection sells for 800pts and there's a free Weapons Pack as well.

OVERVIEW: The GRAW 2 Co-op Collection consists of five Co-op Campaign missions that continue the story from GRAW 2. In total there are nine maps, seven of which are inspired by classic maps from Ghost Recon’s illustrious history and two that are totally brand new. All nine maps (including adversarial versions of the Co-op Campaign maps) have exquisite visuals and support all of GRAW 2’s thousands of customizable game modes.

ACHIEVEMENTS: The Co-op Collection offers nine new achievements for GRAW 2, totaling 125 achievement points.

CO-OP MAPS

New Co-op Campaign – Story: Manuel Suazo Azcona has emerged as the leader of a new rebel movement in El Salvador. Azcona’s plan seems to be an attempt to destabilize the governments of both El Salvador and neighboring Honduras. Once their respective governments are weakened, he will incite the people to try and overthrow both countries’ U.S.-backed leaders. The Ghosts are being sent in to quell this uprising before it starts. They must first stop the rebel incursions over the two nations’ shared border and then hunt down the rebel leaders one by one. If they fail, America’s efforts in the region could be set back by decades.

Caves – (Ghost Recon®)
Azcona’s squads are using the nearby caves as an operational base for raiding army convoys across the river. Detain and extract the rebel leader and recon the area for any hidden weapon caches.

Railroad Bridge – (Ghost Recon)
Intel reports the rebels are moving on a command post 60 clicks southeast of here. Protect the command post, recon the local rail line and hunt down the informant providing intel to the rebels.

Battlefield – (Ghost Recon)
The last rebel unit in the area is holed up in the village of Venta. An allied armor unit on the edge of town is pinned down by artillery. Ghosts, knock out the enemy comm transmitter, then escort the armor through the village.

Plantation – (Ghost Recon®: Island Thunder®)
Intel shows a rebel leader’s motorcade is moving through the farms south of here. Take out his convoy and destroy all of the surrounding ADATS before Sabre Seven arrives for extraction.

Swamp Airfield – (Ghost Recon: Island Thunder)
Azcona’s rebels have occupied a small island airfield. Recon the area for intel on this operation and destroy all aircraft to prevent any means of escape. The landing strip is targeted for an air strike so get out ASAP.
ADVERSARIAL MAPS

Business Park – (Brand New) / Suitable for 8 to 12 players
Narrow alleys connect open courtyards with overlooking balconies in this concrete corporate paradise.

Rooftop – (Brand New) / Suitable for 8 to 12 players
Sitting on top of the world, the rooftop structure of a skyscraper has lots of cover and vertical combat.

Caves – (Ghost Recon) / Suitable for 12 to 16 players
I hope they incorporate actual AI this time around...
No kidding! The appointed teamates that have to be babysat in GRAW makes the game a lot harder than it was meant to.

Smoke Effects Techinques called Depth Sprite in which smoke particles move over and around objects like an actual gas, elminating the hardlines you see between clouds and surfaces you see in most games. The smoke also reacts to light and wind.

I've been wondering when we were going to see this. It drives me nuts when smoke bombs in games, even in GOW, go through walls. It shouldn't be all that difficult to implement a particle system where it flows around objects.

Not only that, but the enemy AI was absolute assy, too. Especially online.

I love the way the enemies would magically start shooting you before they turned around. And if you're really lucky, you'll get to see them running in circles and / or into trees.

Hopefully they will let you give out orders to each team member individually instead of the "three stooges" strategy. It would allow for more tactical planning in various scenarios.

That would be cool, have individual soldiers go after separate targets. In the first one you would tell them to " destroy it." Then they all come out of cover, and just start blasting away like they have no discipline. Thats was the thing I hated the most in the first one.

Looks great, loved the first one. I probably wouldn't expect too many visual improvements, but as was mentioned, some AI advances would be welcome.

Hopefully the your a.i. teammate who has a Rocket Launch-type weapon in the single player mode won't kill himself and the other two guys this time around every few minutes or so. Although it is kinda funny if you actually manage to see it when it happens.

That was the quickest teaser trailer ever. I know I will still buy this though, because Ghost Recon is always good stuff.

*please have Clan support*

Can't wait for this. GRAW is still one of my favorite games for my 360.

I agree with everyone else on the AI. Teammates drove me insane on the last 2 sections of the final mission. Even when telling them to take cover, they would stand up and fire at everyone around them.

Looks like it'll be a worthy half-sequel like Island Thunder was to the original. Unlike that pea-brain half sequel GR2: Summit Strike.
Hopefully they will let you give out orders to each team member individually instead of the "three stooges" strategy. It would allow for more tactical planning in various scenarios.
I like the Alpha/Bravo commands. It just makes things easier now that GR is more of a hybrid SOCOM-Rainbow Six (pre-Vegas) shooter. We just gotta accept that GR series will probably never go back to its root with the tactical command map and super-slow tactical gameplay. In the PC Ghost Recon, if you got injured, you could no longer run or shoot straight. Awesome!

EDIT: I was only able to rent GRAW1 this past spring when I borrowed my friend's 360 and did not get to take it online. I have a 360 now and I downloaded the online demo a few weeks ago to try out. Do people usually play online matches with or without the Cypher? THat thing annoyed the hell out of me because there's no element of suprise - I couldn't hide and ambush. People were just running around like Halo with full-auto trigger fingers because they knew where everyone else was already.

Can't wait for the MP demo!

I personally wasn't too impressed with the SP demo... rather dull, drab, and borring, IMO.
Can't believe that there hasn't really been a clan system since Halo 2

This looks promising:

Spectator listed there might have some cool camera options to get video from with the GameBridge.

Was fun, lighting was touchy at times. I only played two games so far though. What is the point of an officer? BTW, the only reason I played twice was because it froze on me the second time >_

played one game with my roommate, fucking exactly like the first one, disconnects middle of the game like fucking always. fuck GRAW. fucking god dammit, this game was fun at some point in time, but fuck this.

The presentation and graphics are leaps and bounds better in multiplayer than the first games. Things are tweaked and the first game I played was pretty fun. 2nd game was pretty stupid since the person turned off the diamonds for friendlies so you can't tell who was on what team...............

But yeah same matching problems though. Joining games only to find they've started......... really annoying....

I haven't had a chance to try out the multiplayer yet, but I assume you can't use cover or dive (the cool ways where you slide) like in single player?

I'm actually very pleased with this demo. Bad enemy AI was my biggest turn off with the original GRAW. In the first game many of the bots would simply stand still and some would not even fire their weapons when they saw you, sometimes when they were only a few feet away. If a bot was to react it would do little more than dive to the ground to avoid your fire.

After playing the GRAW 2 MP demo, I noticed right away that the enemy AI was much improved in coop multiplayer. I can see that the enemies behavior is much more dynamic. All the bots were actively trying to kill me and they were actually maneuvering to better firing positions when I hid behind trees and rocks.

As for other aspects of the demo, the graphics look somewhat nicer in multiplayer but the shadows are a bit distracting because the edges are so jaggy. The controls have remained primarily the same, with a few small exceptions. They did not add a cover system to multiplayer which doesn't bother me for this particular game since the single player cover system is so clunky. However, They did add the single player slide to multiplayer, but I was never a big fan of that feature.

Overall, I am very happy with the multiplayer demo and I'm definitely picking this game up at launch. They didn't mess with the games core mechanics much, which for me is a good thing. Just give me more maps, weapons and game modes, a new single player and coop campaign, better enemy AI, clan support and a prettier package and I'm a happy camper.

I hopped on last night to play some team elimination and was pleased at the overall feel of the game. My biggest issues at this point is that it took me about 7 tries doing a quick match to even get in to play the game. After I was in I found some stuff that was very cool, like being able to see a team mates view through your PIP and also being able to call that person for help.

I may keep trying this out, it's a little daunting for me since I never play MP games on the console so my mind is begging for a mouse and keyboard. I think in 3 games I got 1 kill ... I suck.
I gotta give the demo another shot. After playing the MP, I'm not sure if I'm willing to shell out $60 for it.
The game is going to be $50 at Circuit City next week so you won't have to shell out $60 for it if you buy it there. I really enjoyed the MP demo and can't wait for next weeks release. That new achievement feature sounds pretty cool. Hopefully we can get together a big group of people for our CAG clan.

I'm avoiding the demo at all cost, don't wanna spoil anything and getting the retail game on Wednesday

My 360 died and I finally got a new one. SO I just got around to playing the GRAW 2 demo.

My one concern is at the end of the demo, when multiple enemies are engaging you; The framerate turns to dark brown shit. I hope the retail version isn't like this.

Graphically, the texture look extra nice. Draw distance continues to be very nice.

GRAW 2 is very much an enhanced re-tooling and re-polishing of GRAW 1, and that's fine by me. Not everything can be brand new each year. Some of the new features are better than others (the added viewpoints and controls are great, while the Mule is forgettable), while lots of little things were streamlined and made easier (like weapon switching and shooting from a copter). The core game plays like a smoother, better-paced, and more vehicle-heavy GRAW 1, which is a good if familiar thing. The single-player campaign, unfortunately, seems a little short and even a little too easy, which is a bummer. But the co-op mode and the MP modes are deep, highly customizable, and great fun so for some players, that might make up for the single-player campaign's brevity.

Played the tutorial before I went to work.

It's definitely tweaked in the right spots.
Updated OP with release info and great Fry's pricing thanks to fellow CAG fidodido.
Damn why couldn't they have that kind of pricing on a game I actually want, like Crackdown?!?!

I saw Ramo playing this earlier today. I had completely forgotten it was coming out. GRAW was the first WOW game for the 360 in my opinion, let me know if the game is solid guys-- I'll pick it up.

How's the Co-op?
