This was the one and only thing I told myself I would allow myself to buy during the Steam/Digital whatever Winter Sale and was hoping to lower it to under $10.

Sounds like you answered your own question. "Capsule Client : This title requires Capsule to play." is pretty self explanatory. The sale page will say when Steam is required.

There's one other variant for non-Capsule-DRM titles, "requires capsule to download"
