He's younger than 30. He needs to take the doctor's advice and take it easy. He will have a place in the next World Cup guaranteed. Dumb to jeopardize it this year in a group of death already in a hole.

Age. They were simply too old. It also didn't help that coaches finally figured out how to play against tika taka. Spain had an incredible run over the last 6 years. Time to see if the next generation can continue playing at this high level. Euro 2016 will be their first test.

It was a bittersweet moment yesterday because I knew either the Dutch or Spanish would be out at the group stage but had Spain advancing out of the group because of the Dutch's injury problems.

Pulling for England!

England still not out officially but really they are.

Explained england in WC to a guy at work like this:

If the US played in an international basketball tournament and never won it in 50+ years. We invented basketball yet are not that good internationally and we have the best league in the world.

Thats English soccer.

He was like, wow that sucks for them.

My Predictions for today's games:

12:00 p.m. - Italy 2 - 0 Costa Rica, ESPN

Spot on.

The EPL and the Three Lions are two completely different animals. The day Bergkamp joined Arsenal is when the EPL changed for better or worse. The influx of great foreign talent (players/coaches) have helped make the EPL one of the top European leauges. One only needs to look at the Top 6 EPL teams to see that the best player(s) on those teams are all foreign players (one could argue for Rooney at United but RVP is better IMO). So yes, the EPL is great but it is not great because of English players.

The Three Lions haven't had a great team since the late 90s/00s. The 98 team that lost to Argentina on penalties was the most talented English team of the last 30 years. The most recent generation of English players simply have not been good enough. Regardless of FIFA rankings or perception England is about the 5th or 6th best team in Europe (Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Netherlands are better). To make matters worse Roy Hodgson is not a very good manager. He's not the right man for the job.

If Gerrard and Lampard didn't work side by side in midfield, why the hell does Hodgson think Gerrard and Henderson will work? Why not play 4-3-3 or a diamond midfield and tell Gerrard sit back a bit? Hart is a howler waiting to happen, and Cahill and Jagielka looked nervous from the opening whistle. It has been tough watching them play these two games (and the better part of the last 12 years).

Diamond is probably the best option at this stage. In that formation Barkley would play just behind Sturridge and Rooney, with Sterling and Lallana on the wings and Gerrard playing the "regista" aka Pirlo role.

Ideally England would play 4-3-3 if Wilshere was healthy and in good form.

They need a lot of help but they need to go all out against the Ticos. Henderson has shown nothing in two games. Swap Barkley in for Henderson and pray for some magic.

I think Italy will win today. The problem however is that Italy will not have an incentive to win against Uruguay. They'll play for a tie.

Costco has world cup team jerseys if anyone is interested. I only know they have Mexico's official jersey as my mom called me from the store to see if I wanted one for the hubby. They are $34.99.

Hope this helps someone :)

Cheap Umbro knock offs... but thanks!

They're Adidas (for Mexico) :/
Ok, cheap adidas knock offs. ;-)

Started up the france swiss game late, damn 2 -0 already.

And a penalty on Benzema just happened. Oh shit, keeper saved it and cabaye missed a volley.

Great save.

How did Cabaye miss that? Open net.
As Tyrone in Snatch said, it was at a funny angle.

Edit and the route is on 3-0 and france is keeping up the pressure before half.

Their attack is looking really good.

It looks like France found their mojo again.  Too bad they will probably face Germany in the quarterfinals.

So belgium finally pulled it out today. Go red devils.

Pretty nervous for this US match, but if we can manage a win we will be through to the next round regardless of what happens, if we tie we have a really good shot of going through still thanks to GD, but rather have it wrapped up tonight.

I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN.

Edit and holy shit, Algeria up 3-0. Crazy.

A comedy of errors to end an amazing game. Bradley losing the ball in the midfield, Beasely does nothing to pressure Ronaldo and allows him to cross the ball in, and Geoff Cameron doesn't bother to check if there are any Portugal players around him to let Varela score. WTF!

Yeah. People are sugar coating this match. fuck that! It's a horrible tie. I thought Bradley played well all game until that turnover but what a brutal way to end it.

Here's the thing, going into World Cup I was hoping win, tie, tie... But to be that close. The team looked great possessing and attacking... But defense was off. Couldn't get a clean clear and too many turnovers in our own half. I hope Jurgen talks to his countrymen and negotiates a tie so we both go through ;-)

I think the US can hold their heads high. To come this far in this group is a feat in and of itself.

Just hope the Germans don't destroy us next week.

Ouch. Pretty darn good performance bookended by two catastrophic plays. Bradley will probably be seen as the main scapegoat for the last one and although it was pretty bad from him, there is absolutely no reason why there should be any space behind the center backs to cross into when it was just seconds from full time. fuck

The real Bradley needs to show up for Germany. First half was the only decent performance he has had so far. Maybe he's just not suited for pushing up in that more advanced role.

Turner over was bad on bradley but the two defenders in the box ball watching are the culprits. Either one tracks the run or goes toward the ball, goal most likely doesnt happen.

Ball watching is what lost them the match.

I have criticized Beasley more than most but to be fair I thought he played CR7 about as well as anyone could have played him on that last play. Pressuring Ronaldo at that juncture of the game would have been a bad idea because it would have left Beasley susceptible to the inside or to make matters worse it would have increased the likelihood of conceding a free kick. The cross was a win for Beasley IMO.

The fault on the last goal lies solely with Bradley and Cameron. Bradley, let down by a poor first touch, should have kicked the ball towards the opposing corner and allowed Yedlin to make a play for it. Worse case scenario a few more seconds would have ticked off the clock and Portugal would have to play the ball from the back.

Cameron got caught ball watching. He needed to be tighter to Besler, especially after Gonzalez came on. We were playing with 3 at the back.

A tie is not the end of the world. Sure a win would have been ideal and a well deserved result but we still got a point out of the match. We still control our own destiny and a win Germany means we win the group which no one thought was possible a few weeks back.

If germany plays like they did against Ghana, we have a shot. I doubt that though. They are a world class team and will bring it with second round on the line.

The REALLY shitty thing? Possible scenario where ghana wins and we lose and end up tied on points and gd and they go through with goals scored.

fuck you fifa, why the fuck is there not a head to head tie breaker?

Should go

Points

Head to Head

GD

Goals Scored

fucking wankers that are fifa.

I think the best case scenario is we lose 1-2 to 0 and portugal beats ghana by only 1-2 goals. The problem is portugal's defence is really not that great (they will get back pepe at least, not sure if that is good or bad) and if they are pushing for goals, which they have to win as they need to win by 3+, then I think ghana has a shot to beat them by the 2 they need to.

Our goal for the germany game is not get killed. Losing is ok if by 1-2 depending on what happens in other match. A tie for us would be huge, I can see us playing a very defensive game and getting a 1-1 draw maybe.

Damnit, why couldnt we just finish that fucking game off, now I am going to be going crazy until thursday morning thinking about this shit.

Oh and we set two records in that game.

Most goals given up in the first 5 mins in WC games with 7.

Latest goal scored in regulation in WC history.

Go USA.

Getting records, the American way!

But seriously, if we went back to a month ago and said this would be our results, I think everyone would be happy. It sucks we lost the win the way we did, but we still got a result against an opponent who we thought we had no chance. I have a strong feeling we will move one. There is like 7 scenarios that we move on, and only like 2 that we don't.

Jurgen should just buddy up and the teams pass the ball around for 90 minutes. :whistle2:
