This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Weird that COD 2 and 3 are on sale but the first game is not.  Not sure what I should buy between those, Family Guy, and Fall of Cybertron.  In the meantime, I'm downloading trials for Carcassonne and LocoCycle.

That Family Guy game is pretty bad.I bought it last year and I couldn't even finish it.After a while it just felt tedious to play it.

xD  Destiny 360 Physical, breaking my own rule and getting it not just at launch price but right at midnight.

So, you guys getting destiny digital or physical?
Probably picking it up in December when I'm not living on campus. Hoping for a sale by then. If physical hits $30 or lower I'll buy. Otherwise I'll probably stick with digital. Haven't had any problems with X1 physical games yet, but have had several on 360 that started cracking (all are games I love). Most recent was last weekend SSF4 stopped working during win quotes after matches. Big crack in the disc. Really regret not adding it to my account when it was GWG.

Everyone bitching about tank controls should just stay away from the old games in general. They're designed to help you feel a little more helpless and force you to think a bit when a shitstorm is happening. Even then, tank controls are still in RE4, 5, and sort of in 6. Just the camera and aiming changed.

Anyways, changing them in the old games isn't a good solution for the most part. They gave a more traditional option in RE2 N64, but it just doesn't work well because of the the still fixed camera angles. You run into a new screen and suddenly all the directions change and you usually jerk the wrong way. Devil May Cry 1 kind of had the same issue. It's ass, and if that's what they're adding to RE-REmake it'll be a worthless option again. The way they're making the game "widescreen" is retarded too, chopping off the top and bottom of the screen so it scrolls with your character. Another half-assed port with minimal effort put forth, like not adding support for the second stick on RE4 HD.

I've started from the beginning with a launch console, gone through 3 RRODs, and am on my 4th and 5th system now. I've only ever heard of discs getting scratched from having the system stand vertically (which I've been lucky enough to never have experienced), what in the hell are you doing to these discs that they physically crack?!

I'm thinking thunderstorms. We had an earthquake once here and that was nothing compared to the thunder. I know moving the console while it is on causes problems, so that is my best guess.

Oh, Vigilante 8. That game was really fun on N64 and Dreamcast. I wonder how this version is - it received poor reviews.

It reportedly has a co-op mode where human players can team up against AI drivers, so co-op fans might want to check this out.

Bought State of Decay in Dec last year but I have not even sniffed it yet.  Most likely not worth getting the DLC I guess.  I think I have a better chance of playing it on Xbox One with the backlog I have.

Nostalgia made it insta-buy for me. However i don't when will i ever be in touch with that nostalgia.

So, you guys getting destiny digital or physical?
Digital for sure. For a game that is always online and that I want to be able to just jump into when I get an invite, I think digital is the answer. I never trade games anyway and I just am all about my tech always having my library ready to go.

Retail discs are cheaper still, so for stuff that will not likely always need access to like single-player only stuff, disc is okay. So Assassin's Creed Unity will be a disc, but DRIVECLUB and GTA V are digital for sure.

Just that inconvenience and slowness of your console not necessarily being ready to play when you are is becoming a more glaring old-tech problem to me.

There is no reason not to add a free game to your account if you have gold, even if you own it physically.
Yep, I'm putting discs way in the back of the closet once they hand me digital copies on Live. Hitman Absolution, Halo 3, Dishonored, and soon Halo Reach, all are going to be off the shelf and digital saves me from moving those discs again anytime soon. I'm too skeptical to trade the discs, but I will at least enjoy not touching them most of the time.

It's true, but only bought like 2 songs from Dance Central 2.

It would be a long shot of course, but it would have been kind of cool if they allow you to download all DC 1/2 songs to XB1 similar to how Rock Band handled it.
Well, did you transfer the on-disc songs from DC1 & DC2...? I assume that's what you're talking about is the on-disc songs, and they've already made it possible to use them as "forward compatible" with each new DC iteration (although I haven't heard anything on whether DC3 lets you do this). I don't own an X1 yet or else I'd check myself to see if the new game recognizes them.

...In fact, in typical CAG fashion, I own all 3 games, have imported 1 & 2 into 3... and then have never played it.

Never tried that, but I don't expect DR 1/2 or even 3 to be compatible with Spotlight.

As for Destiny, waiting on the $30 price point, new or used.  The beta was fun but the game doesn't have a lot of content and pretty much nothing going for it story wise for me to justify it as a Day 1.  Maybe if the reviews hype me into it, but this game is primed to be a disappointment if you ask me.

They'll make their money back off me with DLC when I do purchase it.

Beta was really fun, but I'm also afraid that there will not be a lot of content in full version. Hopefully I'm wrong and the beta was just the tip of the iceberg. I did get close to 25 hours of the beta played if not more, but a lot of that was replaying stuff with friends. Rare that I play something without achievements for that long that isn't an MMO. Will try to rent during launch week though.

Yep, Destiny is being put on the back burner. I had fun, but not worth me having to sacrifice Forza or Sunset Overdrive.

Heck I was gonna get destiny digital but not now. $47.99 GCU with a $10 rz cert. I have $40 in RZcerts that'll be available Friday. It's a no brainer.

Carcassonne is not for me. I can understand having fun playing against another person but 70 tiles is way too much even in single player. I grew bored of this game quickly.

So LocoCycle is by TwistedPixel. So wonder I'm liking this game. I thought Comic Jumper was very funny but I didn't expect to see a game like this which combines racing and combat mechanics.  I just hope the combat holds up and doesn't get old like Comic Jumper did. And only $10 regular price. Hmm.

I'll pass on Family Guy but I'm open to one of the CoD's or Transformers WoC. $10 or less is my sweet spot and it would stink to spend more than that if a game isn't good.

EDIT: Noticed the sale for LocoCycle is for the Xbox One version. Rats.

Is Warframe pay to win type shit? It might be free but do they purposely cut your XP in half in hopes you'll say " fuck this" and go purchase upgrade packs?
It's not pay-to-win [on PC] at all. I put in over 100 hours for free around Christmas and then spent $3 on "Platinum" as I was getting bored and quitting in ~February, just to thank the devs. (Coincidentally a couple of days later I got some items worth twice as much Platinum! I'm not sure I'd ever be able to spend that much... there's a push to buy a couple more Warframe slots and Weapon slots, but even those aren't essential)

The game rebalances and (theoretically) improves with every significant update, so that may change in future.

I have left the game installed and occasionally load it up to check out the new updates, but I've got the cool Warframes I want and there's not much else to compel me to keep playing. Oddly enough, I'd be more likely to invest another few dozen hours if my account was wiped and I had to work my way to getting a Rhino and a few potatoes again!

Oh, yes... potatoes are very important in this game.

Crap...Really want FoC, but can't afford anything over a $4.99 price point. Already played the hell out of WFC or that would be a must buy. So looks like another week with nothing worth buying.

The standard digital is pre-ordered, pre-loaded, and purchased with free Xbox money plus I game share with my brother and it's my turn to buy something.
So with game sharing, say my best friend and I use it...will I still have my pins, games, etc if I set my home console to his? Would I still have EA access, access to disc games offline, stuff like that? What are the cons to game sharing?

It is really rough at first, but you kind of get used to it. I still haven't finished the last achievement for finishing the game on professional because of the controls.

Are Code Veronica controls same as RE 1-3? I hated the controls in those games. You play as a special agent that can't shoot well because of weird controls and camera angles. I heard the new version will fix a little bit of the controls by making it so you don't move like a tank.
Weaksauce on that Lack of professional achievement.

Another half-assed port with minimal effort put forth, like not adding support for the second stick on RE4 HD.
agreed

If your xbox is not the designated "home" xbox than you will only be able to play anything downloaded as long as your connected to the internet. The home xbox can play content Offline and on a different profile but the non-home xbox cannot and you must at all times be on your gamertag and connected to the internet to play any content you have downloaded. This includes free and paid content similar to the License transfer tool on Xbox 360. Unsure about ea access but i don't see why you wouldn't have access as long as you're connected to the internet. No access to games offline if not connected to the internet and on your profile.

So game-sharing that I see people talking about lately on PS4 and Xbox is a loophole in the licensing? Not officially recommended, but among the customers it is seen as the best way to share digital games?

I don't know if it's considered a loophole, Account sharing is a violation on the terms of use if i'm not mistaken. Its not officially recommended i guess. I see it as the best way to share games and save money. (amongst two people) Now obviously the downsides in having a digital library is you can't sell it but I like it so yea.

Additional Information: License transfer and Home xbox can be done up to 3 times per year. License transfer on 360 is once every 4 months, while Home Xbox is 3x a year max.

I don't know much about home xbox though in terms of lets say; I have a home xbox set but if i download say destiny on my non-home xbox first, will the Home xbox still be able to log in to my profile, download it, and play it on another profile that is not my own. (on 360 if you license transfer, any content you already own will be able to be downloaded on the console you license transferred on and subsequently be able to be played offline and on a seperate profile but If you download something else on a your profile and it doesn't first get downloaded to the already license transferred console than that console will not be able to access the newly downloaded content (offline or on a seperate profile.)

Long read but correct me if i'm wrong. Don't want to spread misinformation.

So, you guys getting destiny digital or physical?
Going physical with the LE. I want the extra digital content and it's only $10 more for a hard copy + the extra physical goodies like the map and the armament guide. I'm a sucker for LE's.

As for this week's sales, I bought Child of Light and Lococycle, both X1 offerings. I've been wanting to play Lococycle for a while and for $6....why the heck not. Child of Light wasn't on my radar, but after watching the gametrailers review where they likened the battle system to Grandia, it became an instant purchase. It'll probably sit in my backlog until some time in October, before Dragon Age Inquisition hits but after a chunk of time with Destiny.

I feel the digital guardian edition should retail for a bit cheaper would bite if price was $69.99/$79.99. feels a bit too expensive for a digital copy. Am i alone in these feels?

No, I hate that. They want to charge the same price when part of that price is the special packaging. Completely stupid.

Hmmm...maybe I misunderstood how this license transfer/home xbox works.  My hope before MS pulls their servers is that I can download my profile onto one xbox and load all the "kids" games onto that one then license transfer to my xbox and put my games on it but if the original would always have to be online then this obviously wouldn't work.

I had to buy another xbox as my first has died and I license transfered my profile and all my old content still works fine offline with the new.

Good to know I'm not the only one passing on Destiny. I played the beta and didn't see what all the hype was about. It seemed rather boring to me. Like a clone of borderlands.

Just noticed that Halo Anniversary is $15 at Microsoft Store so I finally broke down and bought it, plus another as a gift for a friend.  I'm still annoyed that you can't buy it digitally.

Seeing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine has made me look at its dlc and even though the dlc is not on sale...

Can you play Dreadnought Assault Chaos Unleashed by yourself (or does it require more than 1 player to start the game?) I can't imagine the online being active for that game but I do like "horde" modes.

How is Prototype 1? I actually own the sequel on disc, picked it up for $4 or 5 a while ago but haven't played it. Is it worth playing the first one first or should I not bother and go straight to 2?

Sounds like the reality of licensing is the opposite of what you want: whatever console you tell MS to transfer your license to is the one that doesn't need to be online to access the content, and any other console would need your profile downloaded and signed on to the internet at all times to use your content.

If I'm reading what you want to do correctly, it could work... but it's obnoxious. (we are talking 360s, right?) You would need to transfer your license on the MS site over to your "family"/kids' console and then always be online with your own console that you play on. I do something similar at my house with a living room console I normally game with--which is the same one my gf games on--but then I have a "spare room" unit I use too.

It is actually OFFICIALLY recommended by Microsoft themselves,

For $10 less, you get everything but the physical stuff compared to the Limited Edition. I think it is reasonable.
Game is $60 and Expansion is already $35, so that is $5 less if you get the DGE with more in-game content.
