Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

I have Gears of War Ultimate Edition, but have yet to actually open the game and play it. Was that the way into the beta for Gears 4? If so is it too late to get in the beta now?

That was the way to get it. Pretty sure they're doing an Open Beta too.

Cool, I'll have to look into it. Ultimate Edition is far down my backlog list right now, but I am curious to see Gears 4 in action. I've always enjoyed the series, but I have never loved the games and I hated the multiplayer, mostly because I am terrible at it.

Received the Fallout DLC Chryslus Rocket ’69 code. I doubt I'll play Forza 6 (I wish they had also added it to Horizon) so if there are any Forza players in need of a code, send me a message!

You had to play UE by March 11, I think. But the second week of this 2-week beta is open to the public and will be available for download from the Xbox marketplace.

Have a question, don't know if anyone can help out.

My GF bought an xbox one used almost 2 years ago now and last week the blu ray drive died. Well it wont read any discs (as in I put a disc in, no odd sounds, just get an error that it wont read it). We are trying to figure out what exactly to do at this point. If we should contact microsoft and try to go that route or try and get another drive somewhere and do a home replacement of it. The xbox is used and well not under any warranty, I am just trying to figure out the best route to go here.

Thanks.

Are you in the preview program? I've recently started getting it but only on a DVD. Blu Ray doesn't seem to be an issue. I thought maybe it was just a dirty disc. I would pop it out and put it back in and shortly after hearing it fire up the disc would load.

Yeah, my GF is in the preview program. It happens to all discs, DVD's, Blu Rays, games, etc.

I'm having a weird problem on my Xbox One. When I hold in the Xbox button on the controller, I feel the little vibration right away, but then there's like a 5 to 10 second delay before the "Turn console off" dialog finally appears. Anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?

Have you tried a hard reset yet?  Hold the power on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts off completely.  Seems to fix most issues.

Anyone download Superhot yet? I just saw it is out on Xbox One now, but it's also a $25 digital download, which is a bit pricey IMO. I think I am still going to download it tonight though just because I've been wanting to play it for awhile now, but would love to hear some impressions if anyone has played it.

On a side note the Games with Gold this month are some of the worst I have seen yet.

Another weird problem with my Xbox... After downloading a bunch of the sale games yesterday, Gone Home and Submerged both appeared twice on the My Games & Apps list. The problem resolved itself with Submerged after playing it a couple of times, so I'm hoping the same thing happens with Gone Home...

A lot of interesting Xbox (controlled?) leaks today.

- $99 Xbox branded streaming stick (chromecast, fire stick)

- $150 Xbox TV (roku, apple tv)

- Xbox Slim releasing in August (40% smaller than the Xbox One)

- Xbox (Two) code named "Scorpio" releasing in fall 2017 supposed to be greater than 4x the power of the Xbox One which is 1.2 tflop, they are aiming for 5 - 6 tflop (for comparison PS4 is 1.8 tflop and PS4 Neo is rumored to be 2.3 - 2.5x the power so 4.2 - 4.5 tflop and releasing this fall, 1 year earlier)

- Revised Xbox One controler with minimal changes including a flatter dpad and flatter thumbsticks (included with the slim)

On gaf it is being reported that Microsoft didn't want to launch the Scorpio this soon but are reacting to Sony's Neo, they were caught off guard again and that is why it'll be a year late to the party.  Should be interesting especially if it is greater than a tflop more powerful.

Those sounds like a new next gen console spec if true.
Indeed, but both are claiming to be 100% compatible with the 2013 consoles, likely will be running the same dashboard, and using the same controllers.. so that is why it is considered an iteration rather than a new generation.

I like the idea of a powerful machine on both the Microsoft and Sony side, but I hate the idea of having to buy new consoles so soon after the initial releases. 2013 wasn't that long ago and for Sony and Microsoft to release not only revised slimmer versions with larger storage capacity is one thing, but to add more power to the console is something that makes me feel a need to purchase these on release despite already owning both consoles. All it takes for me is knowing that I could be playing a superior game on the better hardware is enough to get me to upgrade right away, but the real scary thing for me is that these could very well just be the start of a new trend of  bi-annual console updates similar to how mobile phones are handled. My wallet can't handle $400+ system upgrades every couple of years in addition to buying games for the systems.

The beauty of this new console model is you won't need to upgrade right away..  since all games will be backward/forward compatible for at least 1 previous console, it means you can upgrade at your leisure.  It also means devs don't have to relearn a new architecture and operating system as these will likely remain constant with just specs getting a bump.  It also means you never have to worry about your library because it will be playable on all the new machines and if Microsoft puts the Xbox UI on PC then your library now carries on to those machines as well..  very exciting stuff if it works as planned.

The slim doesn't interest me at all, but all the other stuff is intriguing, especially the Scorpio. I agree that those sound like next gen specs.

It could also mean devs never utilize the full potential of a hardware spec.

Yeah that is the fear, however what could happen is when the iteration is released it only slightly uses the new power, but when the next iteration comes out it's max performance would then become the baseline.. but also 1sr party and more committed devs might use the max sooner.. going to be interesting to watch unfold if it even work out in the first place.

Yes and no. While it is true they wont get to use the full hardware specs to their fullest potential, in the PC realm hardware is constantly being upgraded so it's almost impossible these days to be able to max hardware to their fullest spec. With that said, the xbox is almost has the same guts as PC's nowadays anyway so I think developers may be able to make better use of the hardware they have if developing the game is becoming easier and faster.

Either way I am ok with a new xbox every 3+ years assuming that there are no exclusive games for the off year system. For example the new xbox one, if it has exclusives (besides the VR stuff), then I will be disappointed. However if this system is just that, and no new exclusives besides VR then I am totally fine with this strategy where every 2nd system is a new overhaul for games.

Otherwise I would just stick to PC gaming because it's still cheaper to buy games.

I hope they don't announce a ''next-gen'' system at this E3. Especially since I just bought an XBOX One a few days ago.
Don't be surprised, as many recent previous E3's companies say and you can get one at this price right now. I'd always wait until after E3 to pick up a new system.

Now is the worst time to be buying new systems. Not only because of the potential of announcements but also because of potential price drops.

I found a really, really good deal on it, so its ok. But I just hope the console has a few more years of game support from devs and M$.

Bought the Elite controller earlier this week and finally got to try it out tonight. Only messed around with the paddles so far, but after an hour or so of play, the paddles are becoming somewhat natural quicker than I originally anticipated. Still making some silly mistakes, but that's to be expected at first. Only thing I haven't decided upon is whether I prefer the jump paddle to be on the upper right or bottom right paddle. As someone who could never adjust to "bumper jumper", that alone is a godsend regardless.

One thing I saw however and didn't realize was an option was changing the stick deadzones. Not even sure where to begin with that setting if people have any recommendations. Figure I'll use the controller mainly for shooters, namely Overwatch and Halo at the moment.

I'm still trying to learn everything about the Xbox one as I have not had it long. Is it true you need cloud saving for 360 games and that means I can't play them offline? Thanks

Huh, I stand corrected. Did they change that, or lol did I just have network issues the day I tried it. Yeah just played a skirmish of Supreme Commander 2 while offline. Awesome!

Side note, I couldn't understand why I would connect to Xbox Live, get update responses, and then see nothing new. Turns out a little google birdie told me that if you change your password this is what happens. Super dumb, it will not say re-enter your password, you just have to realize that's what's going on, sign out, and then back in re-entering your password. SMH This is of course figured out after a bunch of other useless troubleshooting steps I carried out.  :wall:

Very interesting that, like the article states, we're looking forward to another Gears, and Forza Motorsport title. Gonna look forward to ReCore as well, aside from more amazing footage of Crackdown 3, all gameplay this time.

E3 just around the corner!

Xbox like a Chromecast is ok I guess, I mean i'll just use my Chromecast if I'm going to use something equivalent. The TV streaming Xbox, meh, but Halo Wars 2!!!! Yes please. "Ready for the Sequel"

... cough playable Flood please, cough.
