Pre-Order Borderlands 2 from us for 10% off and help me get a tattoo! Yes it activates on Steam!

I am a huge Borderlands 2 fan and I want this to be our best selling pre-order ever. So I've drawn a line in the sand. If, from now until launch, we take 40,000 more preorders than where we were on 7/2/2012 I will get a Borderlands tattoo on my back.

SS2 was originally made for the Xbox and only ported fairly recently (last six months or less) so that's probably a part of it. They didn't spend too much time optimizing it.

That's not true.

It came out on Xbox and PC simultaneously. It's been popping up on Steam and other places recently for some reason (maybe they did some compatibility work on it?), but I definitely played it on the PC when it was released.

Yeah, 2K published it on DVD at Retail for the PC.

A lot of games pop up digitally, even if there hasn't been done compatibility work or anything done w/ it.
Often, modders fix the problems themselves, anyways...
No clue about if modders went to work on SS2, though...

I'm willing to start a Serious Sam 3: BFE group. It will be $7.50 a person, Paypal please. PM me if you're interested, I'll purchase once I have full slots.

Black Mirror 3 at 4.99 I think?

And Sega will have some offerings, including AvP at 75% and a few others.

I thinking Divinity II is supposed to have both Steam and non-Steam (DRM free? There's some confusion over whether the Amazon version is or isn't among the reviews) variants.

This is accurate, there will be both versions, we got Steam Keys yesterday and we already have the DRM free version up.

Cheers,
Tony

That is fantastic news! I know that I will be picking up a copy for the Steam key :)

I'm going to edit my post to include this info.

Wonder what the odds are that Last Remnant is below $10. SE is terrible with the pricing of this title in particular. Its over 2 years old and still has list price of $40.

Pretty sure I saw $14.99 as the pricepoint for that one. I was interested in it myself.

I wonder if the game just sells incredibly well? Or they just say screw it, we'll just milk the few people who are willing to buy this.

Sega sale? so does it mean shogun 2 dlc is included?

btw, the Last Remnant price point ($15) is quite high for such an old play-once game. It didn't sell that well, both as xbox and pc form. Hopefully it is a price mistake.

So if I buy the Divinity II Steam key from Amazon to redeem on Steam I assume I am then getting the Steam version which has the exclusive armour. Do I care about this armour? DRM-free or stylish armour?

Hmmm. I do like bling...and either way I get to turn into a dragon.

[quote name='Motoki']Oh and FWIW regarding Divinity II on Steam, apparently the Securerom was deactivated in a Steam patch back in January according to the threads there so the Steam version should be free of additional (besides Steam itself) DRM.

For those who own Steam version of DKS, once it's DL'ed [from Steam]....
Try and boot the Divinity2.EXE from the game folder w/out Steam running[path is probably C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Divinity ii dragon knight saga\ or something similar].

See if it boots it up w/out forcing Steam to open up.
If you can do it that way, it's actually DRM-FREE period!
And from there, you can just create a shortcut of the EXE from there - annd boot it up w/out Steam.

There are some games you can boot w/out running Steam, once you DL'ed it from Steam.
Often, G4WL games you buy from Steam DO work like this - see Steam versions of RF: Guerriilla and GTA4, for exmaple.

I'm curious and wondering b/c I *know* you could boot DKS Demo from Steam w/out even running Steam [after you DL'ed it first from Steam, of course...].
I recall Bastion Demo from Steam worked like this, as well.

Couple of points here:

1. Shogun 2 DLC isn't in the current sale planning
2. The Last Remnant price is $14.99 - we talked to Square about this for a while, obviously we have no idea how this game sells when on promotion because we just put it up on the site. Their feedback was that $14.99 moves units elsewhere in the market so we decided to try it out.
3. I have no idea about the stylish armor, I'll ask the QA team to check.

Cheers,
Tony

I played it so long ago, not sure if the Amazon DVG DRM-FREE version came w/ Armor.
Anybody know if it did or did not?

Anybody know where you get these 3 pieces in-game, if you got them [in any version of the game]?
If you get it at beginning of a new game - let me know where you grab it, I'll see if it's there in Amazon DVG DRM-FREE version.

The three pieces he's asking about listed on the Steam page are:

Mining Guild Set(green/gold armour):
Forged with goblin raids in mind, this set was made for the elite of the Mining Guild's archers. Both bow and armour pieces are sturdy, but light and flexible; thus ideal for staging a mining camp's defence as well as tracking down hostiles in the wilds.

Orobas Set(red armour):
Haughty as many Dragon Knights were, some specialised in the art of conjuring simply to avoid getting their hands dirty during battle. Of course, there is no guarantee a foe might not make it past their minions: so the armour and weapon pertaining to this set are still of great quality - as, indeed, are all things Draconic.

Annihilator Set(blue armour):
Of incredible toughness and durability, the Annihilator Slayer set was constructed specially for the protection of those warriors who do not shy away from attacking their Dragon prey head on in close combat. The pieces of this set are as rare as the Dragon Slayers who prefer this tactic.

Re running Steam D2DKS straight from the exe as DRM free.

If that doesn't work I've seen people say they applied the DRM free patch from Larian over the Steam install and it worked.

I have no idea if running it outside Steam loses you that armor or what but it should be doable reportedly.

This is how it should be, if you ask me, when you buy a game through Steam for the SP portion, at least - BEST of both worlds. :)
This way, you have both Steam's benefits [if you have Steam running] and DRM-FREE benefits [if you got Steam closed or can't get onto Steam].
WIN-WIN situation.

I have no idea if running it outside Steam loses you that armor or what but it should be doable reportedly.
I doubt it would, if you DL'ed the game via Steam.

I would bet the armor assets would be IN a game folder somewhere else, not in the actual EXE file [code to run the game].

Agreed it would be nice to have that option but it's honestly only ever going to happen on old and indie games. Large publishers are not going to release new AAA titles with no DRM. The best I can hope for is that they don't stack their own DRM on top of Steam's when they sell it on Steam but sadly that has been happening a lot.

I actually think running the exes outside of Steam is sort of an undocumented feature on a fair number of games. I seem recall being able to do that with some of Kalypso's stuff too although strictly speaking those aren't DRM free but have some sort of connect once to verify on launch DRM.

I doubt it would, if you DL'ed the game via Steam.

You are probably right. I forgot this game uses Gamebryo, the same engine that the last few Elder Scrolls games used so I'm sure it probably works something like an .ESP mod file or something like that. I think this game came along before Bioware style phone home to see if you have permission to run the DLC shenanigans.

$14.99 for The Last Remnant is a little disappointing seeing as the boxed version fulfilled by Amazon is a dollar cheaper.

Tony is the 60% off FFXIV gonna be off of the $9.99 price that you've had it at for quite a while or will it be 60% off the list price of $19.99. if it's 60% off of $9.99 I'll bite just in case version 2.0 actually manages to be good. Also I'm hoping FFXI UA will go on sale by Wednesday since that is the exact day of the 10th anniversary.

We just got confirmation that SSFIVAE will be in an upcoming promotion, not sure if we'll get it slid into May yet but most definitely in June if not. Just a matter of timing.

While I can see your point on the Last Remnant, this isn't anything new and might be the reason why you don't see super discounted prices on the digital version often...if there are a ton of boxed copies out there on shelves being liquidated.

As for FFXIV it will be 60% off list price ($19.99).

Yes, since Steam forces Steam upon itself, I agree - 3rd party DRM should NOT be involved. That should be removed or disabled in Steam version.
Dev's and publishers know what they are getting into when signing on to sell a game on Steam - and they shouldn't use third party stuff like Securom or Tages.
That stuff is redundant and unnecessat, when Steam's doing the DRM leg-work here - if Steam's always forced at boot-time here.

The only other option...is well, your game from Steam doesn't require Steam to boot; it'd only requires whatever the 3rd party stuff is - i.e. G4WL, Origin, or some other service.

I have no problem w/ games removing forcing Steam DRM or any other 3rd party DRM, once the game's old. Seriously - when it's old and cheap, people will buy it. No need to force DRM - especially on SP portions of games.

I actually think running the exes outside of Steam is sort of an undocumented feature on a fair number of games. I seem recall being able to do that with some of Kalypso's stuff too although strictly speaking those aren't DRM free but have some sort of connect once to verify on launch DRM.
For the most part, yes.
Some G4WL-required games like RFG and GTA4 boot w/out Steam.
And that's interesting about the Kalypso stuff.
