Anime and Manga Thread Vol. 1: Visions of a God
My boyfriend has never seen the third season
My mind was just blown....
Start a new one up, my friend.
Hmmm, I could, but I don't have any ideas.... I'm gonna brainstorm, i guess.

It doesn't really matter, but it's just weird that most of the other threads restart at 500 or 1000, but yet this one is at 2600+.

I finished Code Geass R2 about an hour ago.

Overall, I'd say the show was too long. I had a hard time caring for any of the characters. Large parts of the plot were more convoluted than they needed to be. I nearly gave up watching it a few times, but there was just enough curiosity to keep me interested in seeing how things turn out. By the time the (fourth?) climax came around, I just wanted the whole thing to be over.

All that said, I cried at the end. The series was wrapped up really well and the atmosphere that was created at the very end did a great job of portraying Lelouch as the tragic hero he made himself out to be.

I'd suggest anyone give it a try, but can't say I'd recommend owning it.

I agree; I think it is weird that other threads restart at around 500 posts. I think it's much more natural and convenient to keep a thread running indefinitely, as long as the thread's subject is constant throughout the thread's lifetime.

I think Cheapy said something to the effect of all these huge threads slow the site down or something, so threads should be capped at 500-ish posts.

It's absolutely true, the plot and pacing of Geass are a horrid, unfocused MESS. Strangely enough, I still found it enjoyable to watch through once, but holy shit, it's like they kept throwing more and more terrible ideas in there to sidetrack and over-complicate the story they began with.

And I thought Lelouch was a Light Yagami-level cunt.

Light Yagami reference?

Okay, this is definitely the next series I'm watching.

Durarara!! came to an end sadly, but it really was an amazing series (even though the episodes leading up to the climax were filler which was a let down). Overall, I definitely enjoyed it around the same as Baccano!, maybe a little less, but the fact that you can even compare the two really says something. I'm still hoping for a sequel.

I also started watching Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, and honestly it isn't worth watching. All of the plots are extremely convoluted, as is the entire world, and the characters, and.....the show barely makes any sense in general. It just feels like an unncessary watch, it's not terrible, but it's really not worth watching.

Does anyone know if Viz is going to be doing anything with the Hunter X Hunter OVAs? I'm thinking of getting the series, but I'll be disappointed if the rest never gets released.

Well, it doesn't really matter since the manga is ongoing so the anime doesn't have any real closure either. Although the series does stop at the end of a story arc. I've never watched the OAVs before though.

I recently finished watching Death Note and Durarara, and I didn't like either show.

The first eight or so episodes of Death Note were brilliant — I was in love with the show, however, soon after that, the show's quality progressively got worse and worse, and then, at the very end, the show hit rock bottom — its absolute lowest point. After watching the whole show now, I hate Death Note. Before I start talking about spoilers, I'll explain what little I liked about the show. The English dub was pretty awesome overall; Light and L's English voice actors being the best out of the cast. Most of the background music is amazing, and it's the only part of Death Note that is the most consistent throughout the whole show. Also, I thought the first opening and ending theme songs of Death Note were awesome, but Death Note's second opening and ending theme songs are absolutely atrocious — they are the only opening and ending theme songs that I have ever had to skip.

Death Note spoilers:
As soon as the second Kira was introduced, the quality of the show started to drop. I thought it was lame that another person had the same power as Light, and it just felt like a way to extend the show even further. The next drop in quality is when one of the Yotsuba group members gets a death note; it felt incredibly stupid that yet another person got a hold of a death note. It felt like the focus of the show was shifting away from its good aspects, such as Light and L. After that, L dies, and Near and Mello are introduced, which was incredibly stupid. Neither character has any depth; they are just extensions of L, and I don't want to watch Light fight L all over again. He already beat L, and the show should of ended with L's death. Then, at the end of the show, Light loses, which absolutely infuriates me. Don't misunderstand me, I don't like Light; Light is a horrible person, and I'm not getting defensive because Near won. Light should of won because he did everything right; there was no room for Near to win. The writers had to make up ways for Near to win, and the way he wins is absolute bullshit. Creating an immaculate copy of someone's death note in one night, and it was by someone that's not a handwriting specialist? Mikami keeps his death note in a bank? He's not that moronic; it's completely out of character. Why didn't he keep it at home in a safe hiding place? Furthermore, he already knows he's being watched. Also, when Light loses he becomes completely pathetic, and it was not pleasant to watch. However, the show wasn't done frustrating me. At the very end of the show, Misa committed suicide, and that was the ultimate fuck you for me. Misa was always being shafted, and then Light gets himself killed, and since Misa is a very weak person, she committed suicide. Misa deserved better.

Death Note feels like a terrible, serialized comic written by someone who only knows the story as far as he's written, and the writer has to find ways to keep the comic from ending as long as possible, since the comic won't stop making money.

I was enjoying Durarara during the beginning, but it also becomes progressively worse. Durarara pales in comparison to some of the director's other shows, such as Baccano and Koi Kaze. Most of the characters are uninteresting, and I never cared about those uninteresting characters. The show's story structure is also problematic; instead of doing something unique like Baccano's overlapping story-lines, Durarara presents everything chronologically, and the story is presented in such a manner that it feels like a collection of un-connected vignettes instead of a complete, cohesive narrative. The story pins Izaya as being the main point of the story, but in actuality, none of the stuff Izaya is planning is ever explained, and it never pans out in the end. The ending doesn't resolve anything, and it feels like the end of an arc instead of the end of the show. Overall, Durarara is boring and dissatisfying; I cannot recommend it at all.

Yeah, I felt the same way about Detah Note. The first few episodes were great. Then the series progressively got worse to the point I just stopped watching and I felt no need to know what happens (despite the fact that I eventually got that one spoiler.... and I was like whatever). And I'm also going to agree with the first set of themes being good, then the seconds ones being horrid.

I guess you at least have reasons for not liking either show, but I couldn't disagree more, and the fact that you hated these two shows but seem to like 95% of everything else just goes to show how far we differ in taste.

I decided to be spontaneous; mostly because it's unexpected and I think it's fun. I just ordered the complete set of Nodame Cantabile from PlayAsia. It was cheap, and it has the English dub that Animax produced. I paid for Fedex shipping, so it should arrive here by the weekend; I have a feeling this is going to be a pleasant, fourth-of-July weekend.

Wow, I wasn't expecting anyone to agree with me. I thought I was going to be alone in my opinion since Death Note seems so highly regarded. Thanks, it's nice to know there are other people who feel the same way.

This is true. I go to a forum called Arlong Park and it has a 1,000 post cap on threads, anymore does great stress to the server.

I didn't like ANY of Death Note. Even from the get go. I don't really know what it was, but I just could not stay hooked. I don't know how I made it as far as I did. Light Yagami is a really bad character and can't say I was a big fan of L or the show's music either.

(Death Note spoiler)
I felt mostly the same way. The series was great up through L dying, then after that it went downhill. I never got attached to Near or Mello... even combined they were poor character substitutes for L. At the end of the series Light had them beat, he should have won. One of the things I like about anime is that you are not guaranteed a happy ending like in Western stories, so I would have been ok with the "bad guy" winning. I wasn't too upset with the way Light fell apart at the end; given his personality he could have stayed calm and collected, but falling apart as he did shows that even with all the monstrous things he did he was still human with human weaknesses and flaws.

It was sad to see Misa commit suicide. I think the author didn't know what else to do with Misa at the end. She would have died soon anyway since she had given up half her life twice, and she was already living on borrowed time from her first shinigami. Seeing Light's dad die and his sister lose her mind was even sadder, but this wasn't supposed to be a happy story.

Overall I enjoyed the series. It would be interesting to see if Death Note would have been received differently had the series ended with L's death.

I don't think it's right to write off Durarara!! like that, only 3/7 of the Light Novels were adapted when they were creating the anime. If the epilogue hints to a season two, I like to think this is just the beginning of something much more.

Also you've got to give it to Kida for pulling a Gordon Freeman on those Yellow Scarves
I mean those Blue Squares.

Kida shockingly was one of the best characters of the show by the end. I REALLY pray for a season 2, the show was amazing and it definitely had an end, but it also left open enough plot lines for a season 2.
