For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.
Credit: midgat0 from Blu-ray.com

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

Damn, I just remembered I have tickets for a free screening of the new Total Recall today. I love the original with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it will be nice to see the new version that's in English. ;)

As someone wanted earlier, it looks like Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition will be $4.99 after upgrade and save. Sometimes it's good when prices go up from $7.99 to $9.99 before coupon. ;)

I already have the original Total Recall bluray release. Do you guys think it's worth a double dip?

Hurrah!! Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition for $9.99, we'll get it $4.99 after coupon. I''ll go for it this coming Sunday!! Hopefully, they'll restock soon.

Absolutely. Whether you get it for $8, or for $5 + a DVD, this is the best looking version of the movie on Blu Ray. I'd be willing to bet that once you check out the comparison extra features, you'll probably never watch your original blu again.

Plus, you can always sell one of them, or dump it off at a used movie place to get a couple dollars back as well for whichever version you like least.

It was noted in another forum that the Total Recall pictured in the ad is a misprint. Only the original Total Recall will have the movie tickets on them, not the Mindbender edition. Whether this means that the Mindbender will be $10 or not, I don't know. Just be prepared that it may take an override to get it t that price.

I just noticed that the oldie The Hunt for Red October has a new cover art on it but they're selling for 7.99 now. I was hoping they would jack this up to 9.99. LOL!

That would be great. Hopefully my shipped copy will get to me next week so I can PM it if it's the one that was supposed to be in the ad. If there's movie cash, it will be the cherry on top but not a deal killer for me if it doesn't. Makes sense to put it on the non-MB versions to move stock.

If anyone is still looking for a place to find cheap DVDs FYE had a ton between 1-3 bucks. They had an American idol dvd for 88 cents, they had an Artie Lange comedy special for 99 cents, and a lot of other titles.
Just brought in some dvds to trade and they say it's over. Anybody else getting this?
No. I traded some in today. Just grab an ad from the store and show them or ask to talk to the manager. It's not over for another week.
Just brought in some dvds to trade and they say it's over. Anybody else getting this?
I had a guy try to tell me that last week. He kept saying it was only for the one week. I grabbed a copy of the current ad and showed him the page about the program. Guy was still reluctant, but did it anyways...

I think it's on Page 27 of this week's ad.

I ended up going to a Best Buy across the city and they were pretty confused as to why I was told what I was told. Anyway, ended up with:

Coraline
The Matrix
Twister
The Departed
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

I don't know if I mentioned this already or not, but I went ahead and picked up Firefly on a whim. Never seen the series before, but have heard nothing but good things about it. My brother's a diehard Firefly fan, so if I don't like it, I'll just give it to him or something.

There was probably 2-3 copies left.

Welcome to Best Buy. He sounds like he was just too lazy to do it.

After you watch Firefly, watch the Anime series "Outlaw Star". You may see some similarities. ;)

Yep. At the same BB, aside from this one time, I usually get the same girl that does the trade in less than a minute. She doesn't even check the cases; just counts them, types up the trade and tosses the DVDs in a bin.
All the movies I would be interested in are $7.99, and everything else is cheaper on Amazon, even with the $5 off...
proof?

True BLoock Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Box Set 1/2/3/4 on sale $38.99 - $5 off coupon = $33.99 worth it or not? should i waits for Black FRIDAY?
All the movies I would be interested in are $7.99, and everything else is cheaper on Amazon, even with the $5 off...
If you can get all the 7.99 blurays (tho not eligible for $5 off) on one order, and if the total exceed $50 (for instore pickup), you'll get $10 savings code.
then, it will be cheaper than Amazon.
proof?
Just a quick rundown of things I noticed...

Archer Season 1/2 Blu-Ray - $27 each on Amazon, about $35 or so each at Best Buy
Entourage Season 7 Blu-Ray - $33 on Amazon, Best Buy $40 or so
Entourage Season 8 Blu-Ray - $29 on Amazon, ON SALE at Best Buy for $45
Rome - $30 a season at Amazon, $50 at Best Buy

Not really a fair assessment. This sale was never tailored for tv seasons. But they've had numerous movies on sale during the promotion that made for some great deals when combined with the coupons. "Just a quick rundown"

Blade - @Amazon = $11.27, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
Blade II - @Amazon = $14.97, @BB w/coupon = $4.99 (until this past week...now $9.99)
Blade Trinity - @Amazon = $10.71, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
The Butterfly Effect - @Amazon = $14.95, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
Batman Begins - @Amazon = $11.88, @BB w/coupon = $4.99 (steelbook)
The Dark Knight - @Amazon = $13.73, @BB w/coupon = $4.99 (steelbook)
Ice Age - @Amazon = $15.59, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
Ice Age: The Meltdown - @Amazon = $16.93, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - @Amazon = $19.49, @BB w/coupon = $4.99
Inception - @Amazon = $12.99, @BB w/coupon = $4.99

And that's just barely scratching the surface. To say "everything else is cheaper on Amazon" is moronic. But if your intention was just to come in here and threadcrap, then good for you.

When did I threadcrap? I simply stated that all the movies I was interested in were $7.99. Sure there are some good Blu-Ray movie deals, but that is not what I am interested in. Hence my post where I stated this.

Does anyone want $5 off Dark knight Rises Ticket codes? I got two of them from getting Constantine and V for Vendetta. I saw the movie twice so I have no interest in them. Send me a PM if you want one.

Still debating if I should buy Firefly or the Ice Age trilogy.

Update: Codes are gone.

pm'd!

Doubt it was just my store, but anybody interested in 3D Blus BB had Chronicles of Narnia VOTDT for 19.99 so only 14.99 after coupon. This didn't seem to be in the ad and isn't showing that price online.

I went back for a few more.

Star Wars Padawan Apprentice with minifig - $7.99
Casino - $9.99 - minus $3 for Universal coupon = $6.99
Babe - $4.99 - minus $3 for universal coupon = $1.99

Total Recall Mind Bending Edition - $7.99.

As mentioned in the sticky, get the one with the "Experience High Definition" silver bottom banner. Most if not all bad versions are recalled/oos...especially at a place like BB.

Picked up Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Snatch and Black Hawk down today. Hope we get one more week of some good titles

Thanks to Greenboom on the Blu-ray.com forum for this price drop list.

These are 3D bluray prices after subtracting the $5 upgrade and save coupon.

Captain America 3D 19.99
Thor 3D 19.99
Immortals 3D
Tin Tin 3D 14.99
Drive Angry 14.99
Hugo 3D 14.99
Transfomers Dark of the Moon 14.99

I'm definitely going to pick up Hugo 3D for $14.99. I'd love to get a few more if I had the BB credit or the money this week.

Hopefully we can find a few other good price drops this week on standard blurays also.

Picked up Kick Ass for $5 last week.

I have to say this sale is helping me go through my DVD/Netflix backlog a lot faster. I'm watching The Expendables on Netflix to see if it's worth getting the Blu Ray/movie voucher combo (so far it's not). Hope they do this promotion again during Black Friday.

What a bunch of shit... Total Recall MBE is in the ad, yet it seems that none of my local BBs have it, even as of early this morning. Screw driving 30 miles for a $5 movie. I should've picked it up from Amazon.

I know how you feel. Zombieland Nut Up or Shut Up Edition is in the ad, but no stores near me had it.

Got it.. I saw the front cover art for 5th Element at BestBuy. It does have the "Experience High Definition" silver bottom banner.

The odd thing is.. there isn't much description on the features at the back of the cover. I got the 2 discs Ultimate DVD version today. The 2nd disc are packed with stuff.

Same here.. the store clerk says it will be here next truck shipment on Friday 8/10. It's going to cut pretty close to 8/11 when the $5 off coupon expires.
How much is it?
I think it was one of the $9.99 Blu-Rays. Definitely less than the $50+ on Amazon.

Actually the easiest way to tell the difference is to look on the back. If it has the Dolby True HD (audio) logo, then it is the newer and better version.

LoLzzz!

I don't post on here often, or often enough rather.. but reading this day in and day out I've noticed that not many people are taking advantage of price matching @ best buy + the upgrade to save coupon. And seeming as though some of you have coupons to use, and no new 10$ titles to buy, I suggest you keep in mind you can price match walmart, target, fry's + use the coupon. Some titles I have price matched and gotten were:

Best Buy - Into the Wild 19.99 (walmart 9.96) - coupon = 5$
Best Buy - Scarface 17.99 (walmart 11.00) - coupon = 6$
Best Buy - Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift 14.99 (fry's 9.99) - coupon = 5$
Best Buy - Spiderman 2 14.99 (fry's 9.99) - coupon = 5$
fry's also did Men in Blacks for 9.99 each last week too, unfortunately no good 10$ movie sales this week to price match
I priced match 1 or 2 movies to gohastings retail and target retail as well. Some of these deals have changed obviously, since fry's sales change every thursday. But anyway point being they will stack the price match and coupon, and if they dont, just argue and say another best buy did it til they do (i had to argue with one of the best buy locations about it, in the end they did it)

i think the problem with that is that it is YMMV and a lot of bestbuy employees will not stack a price match with coupon but nice if your bestbuy does it. I asked about spiderman blu rays when it was on sale for $9.99 a week ago at frys and that is what they told me. Some bestbuys even refused to use the universal $3 coupon with the U&S coupon since they claim it is double dipping.
Heads up. Batman $5 movie money ends today. I'm going to go see it in a bit.
Do you know if you can use it on other movies? I've used one and still have another.

thats crazy that they wouldnt do the price match + coupon at your location on spiderman. did you complain to manager? at the second location I went to, I had to do that for spiderman 2 since it was out of stock at first location. the regular employee gave me a hassle, so I had them bring manager up, bickered and bantered til i got the deal~

@erehwon - The movie money only works on the specific movie its ticketed for.

I was at Best Buy today and they had an endcap with Blurays on it that stated 2 for $12.99 or 3 for $14.99. I was tempted try this with a coupon to see if the price came down to 2 for $7.99 or 3 for $9.99, but I forgot my coupon at home. If someone tries this let us know if it works.
