The store managers outline the placement themselves with help from corporate. Corporate will send a rough idea of the floor-plan and the management team fixes it up to suit the store better. I can give you an update on the quantity of Xbox's being sent when they get here. I know we received about a three pallets of the Skylanders bundle last year so that may give you somewhat of an idea for this year.

EDIT: I seem to remember there being at least half of a pallet left of the SL bundle last year and the sale price was in effect until the Monday following BF. The new bundle is a little more attractive this year so YMMV!!!
Sweet, thanks for the info. Look forward to hearing more as we get closer to the big day!

Any tips on how early someone should go before opening? This would be my first, so i have no idea what the crowds would be in the midwest.

honestly it would be better to have the deals start before thanksgiving rather than on thanskgiving. That way you can stay up the night before go shopping, then come home rest and have some turkey.

I wish people won't go at 6pm so the stores feel stupid for trying to ruin our holiday.
Yeah I could see that too, but it kind of defeats the purpose of "Black Friday" when you have deals on Wednesday/Thursday. Clearly stores get a lot of business at this time so they want to extend it as much as they can. How much are shoppers going to be willing to take though? And what about people who have to work? I used to work in retail many moons ago and let me tell you, Black Friday was the worst, but if my store told me I couldn't even celebrate Thanksgiving with my family because some corporate asswipe wanted to get in an extra day of sales, forget about it. I'd be out of there in a heartbeat.

In any case, this year I'm going to just suck it up and go because that $99 X360 is too good to pass up. Believe me I wouldn't have lifted an asscheek to fart let alone go shopping on Thanksgiving if I didn't have to, but my current 360 crapped out on me with the RRoD after 5.5 years so I have no choice. I guess I should be thankful it lasted this long. She had a good run I suppose.

I just hope not too many people go so stores will stop pulling this crap. That's what Friday is for. I want to enjoy my Thanksgiving in peace without having to worry about traffic and large crowds and so on. If I wanted that experience, I'd go to the parade.

Translation: I am against exploiting workers and shopping during thanksgiving time. Except when *I* need something.

Where are you? Where are you going? Are you trying to get a "doorbuster"/high demand item? All those questions apply.
Indianapolis. I have my eye on target's 3DS deal(and a few other things). I imagine the more populated your city you can bet you're going to be walking into some major poo.

Translation to your comment: I'm a douche and like to knock down other people for no reason.

Seriously gtfo. I'm going to a store (against my better judgement) to pick up 1 item. You're probably one of those people in line with 40 items.

Kind of a non help response... but I think it really depends greatly on specifically where you live and what stores you plan on going to.

I lived in the midwest for quite awhile, in one of the 'major' cities and pretty much every store was always packed hours before the deals went on.

on the East Coast, definitely 1-2 hours before if you really want a doorbuster.

I just ordered my new TV yesterday (paid with Amazon credit and at a better price than I'll see on BF) so I dont have anything huge I'm looking for now, just Last of Us and some Blu-Rays.  Maybe a Wii U if I can get the Mario bundle at a decent price.

And those corporate asswipes don't have the balls to say "Yeah, we are ruining your Thanksgiving holiday b/c we want to chase a few more sales." Instead they hide behind "our market research shows an increase in demand for these extended hours on Thursday." Lies, lies and more lies. Those same corporate asswipes will be nowhere near their stores or corporate offices on Thursday.

In my area (Maryland) Target isn't too bad on BF. Nothing like Best Buy or Walmart. Still, I always tell people if there's something specific you want, being there at least 1 hour in advance is always advisable given the unpredictability of BF turnouts and sometimes random store stock, even at some of the lesser shopped at stores. I had been at one Staples 2 hours ahead of time and missed what I wanted yet went to another Staples later in the afternoon on a whim and they had it, go figure.

1-2 hours? I've driven by and seen people camped out the night before.

I live in a small town, so that may have something to do with it. Last year, Walmart had doorbusters at 10 PM on Thanksgiving and my family and I went just after 9 and were able to get the iPad we wanted with no issue. Obviously, YMMV.

That's pure luck, thanks for the responses. I'll try about an hour or 30 minutes before they open, it doesn't hurt to try and fortunately i have two stores really close so i could try both if the other fails.

I'm skipping out on the "in-person" Black Friday experience for the 3rd year running. The online sales did well for me the last couple of years, and I know better to be up around 3 or 4 am for the unannounced sales this year. Barring a retailer doing a half off Xbox One game sale, I think I'm good for now. My poor wallet hurts from getting the One, accessories, and a few games.

I'm debating on going to Walmart in a smaller population (about 90k) in a richer neighborhood to get a iPad mini with a $100 gift card and maybe a TV

OR

staying around my neighborhood (population 160k) and going to a old Walmart with 3 Walmarts in a 6 mile radius.

The Walmart in my neighborhood is pretty violent and crowded but a new Walmart has opened recently 2 miles away from it.

Any suggestions?

the rich neighborhood, of cuz. they probably have private mall security, and police patrolling

I think you mean that the corporate people will leave early Wednesday and return Monday. Most upper management have no intention of working Friday. long weekend is easy when you are on the right side of the table.

Yes, it sucks. Honestly, I wish the companies involved would not open on Thursday at all and forget even opening early on Friday. Welcome to the digital age where most of America can shop online. Make it easy for people to get the products they want at a fair price and they will buy. My opinion also includes quantity limits so that people cannot hoard or buyout inventory just to resale. You do not need 12 copies of 1 game for instance. Target is a prime example of needing to review their policies with how many people on this site and slickdeals boosting that they scammed Target when they bought 3 games, returned 2 and essentially got a game for $5 or so. Even worse was gloating that they did it a dozen times. Really?

Sorry for the rant and yes I like CAG, but I believe in being fair to a business.

No deals on WiiU games it seems... still no good price for ZombieU (new) and stuff like Lego City undercover, Wonderful 101 etc etc. Only Rayman Legends seems to be a good deal.

Like it or not this will be you.

I got Beyond: Two Souls, Borderlands 2 GOTY, The Last of Us as must-buys next week. Anything else is going to be under consideration.
That literally is me. Multiply that pile at the end by like 6, and that's the backlog I've accumulated from this site over the past few years. It's funny, because a lot of games in that pile are actually games that are in my backlog like Metal Gear 4, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, and all the Assassin's Creed games! I actually just started the first game this weekend.

From your list, most definitely The Last Of Us. I already have Beyond and the vanilla Borderlands 2. Also hoping to get Arkham Origins, Saints Row IV, Tomb Raider, God Of War Ascension, BioShock Infinite, Metal Gear Legacy, and that's it.

Only thing I'm interested in picking up is the Xbox 360 bundle from BB. Hopefully it won't sell out by the time I get there later on Friday.

I have 3 questions about the xbox 360 slim. I understand they changed the placement of the hard drive.
1- is it remove able like the older models?
2- what are my available options to upgrade storage? I'm looking at the Walmart bundle, and 4 gb will not be nearly enough for me.
3- is there any way I can transfer memory(saved games, etc) from an older style hd to a (preferably upgraded) newer style hard drive?

You can use a flash drive to transfer saves. You can also use larger USB flash drives (16 or 32 GB) for more storage

Edit: nevermind misunderstood the post. Thanks, I'll have to see if I can get that to work! I would prefer to have one centralized hard drive (200+ gb) though, rather than multiple 32 gb flash drives
