CAGcast Live! Wednesday 6/20, 8pm EST

Using a regular phone didn't work. By the time you say "the lines are now open" to when you choose someone I can't dial 9 digits, especially word themed ones. Then you get one ring and then you're hung up on. Meanwhile the Skype callers can just press a button: I know because I downloaded it while the cagcast was still live and then called during the cagbag which I then got lots of rings and then the answering machine.

I think what would be better is a Cagcast invite PM to a special chatroom at a certain place and time. Then just have people waiting in the "green room" to come in and talk. You could do it on userplane aka cagchat I'm sure

oh I forgot to mention the highlights (missed most of the show...caught the tailwind of the playstation segment).

Highlights
-Cheapy hung up on the dude asking the nights question during the ps3 segment...
-and of course the contest.

Yeah, the contest was the turning point of the show. I think the Live Cast was interesting and worthwhile. It's just not a 100% experience right now. Maybe until Cheapy gets a new computer for the show, during the show no calls should occur live (maybe having them done earlier in the week or none at all). Or if you do that Cheapy, make them pre-screened before the show.

Episode 76: The Not So Lag Free Edition

I was able to listen to the first hour live and I must say that I think it was a great start. the only problem was the lag during calls, but im sure you guys could get that worked out. I really like the Listener Interaction with the Chat Room and Calls.

Keep up the awesome work guys :D

I got in at the end, but it was so lagged that I could not hear anything. I just gave up. Maybe next time

I think that you guys should just revert to the usual method of the CAGcast. There was too much lag and the live calls idea just didn't work too well.

A thought on why the PS3 downloads maybe way faster then a 360, is that nobody is really downloading anything on the PS3 or even has a PS3.
A thought on why the PS3 downloads maybe way faster then a 360, is that nobody is really downloading anything on the PS3 or even has a PS3.
Its actually because the servers are in japan, CheapyD just gets a better connection to the server.

As far as I've heard though, anyone who lives outside of Japan has the slowest download times ever for their content.

I told you all this wouldn't end well.

I'll reserve final judgments until I can download and listen to the show tomorrow, but based on other people's comments, I don't think the CAGcast is ready for "primetime" just yet.

my call wasnt that bad, I just dont own a PS3 and drew a blank partly when I was surprised about the call being answered and forgetting that I called while sony was the discussion, but im glad you got a kick out of the call, because I had fun either way :)

EDIT:
wolfgame did get pwnd.
everyone was like "the only videogame he plays is madden"
i would have to agree from the sound of his voice.
everyone was giving him the answers.
Man I wish I was the one who got in!!!
Kid Icarus and man how can you NOT recongnize MARBLE MADNESS
the only one I didnt know was the Alpha Wolf one, or whatever it was called

only video game I play is madden? Thats the one game I dont play, I consider myself a pretty well rounded gamer, some of my favorite games are Shenmue 1/2 and the mystical ninja series, I was a bit *out* of it though, i was also trying to get my sound set up too and get my mic turned on and I remember telling cheapy I really didnt have anything to add on the ps3, so I thought he asked if I had any question/comment at all, I dont know how much farther I got into the call but I then mentioned the Nights game for the Wii as one I was looking forward to, after that I go back into the chat and see it going nuts from all the people saying I got "pwned" which was probably true, it happens when you step in unprepared so I probably deserved it, heh.

I was pretty suprized when my call was answered by Cheapy himself. I was expecting someone to be screening the calls or some kinda "heads up".

I had the stickam turned down, and the phone conversation was laggy....like a bad cell phone call. I figured the call would be lag free, and any lag would just be on the internet listening end. It seemed manageable at first, but seemed to get worse as the call went on. I was just glad that I could get a quick congrats out to the boys for their first live effort.

Oh well, it was nice talking to CheapyD and Wombat. I think I at least had a "hypeworthy" hype wagon pick. I hope I didn't sound like the biggest loser in the world. I'll reserve that judgement until I can re-listen to the CagCast "un-live".

PS To Guy In The Chat Room: I wasn't masterbating....I just sound that way when I'm nervous.

Cheapy and Wombat, I'd like to congratulate you two for breaking the mold and trying something entirely new, bringing the CAGcast to your audience, live. However, as a CAGcast faithful from #1, I found this to be one of the worst yet...

Aside from the bad lag, I found the call in's to be especially terrible... I think a large part of it has to do with people just wanting to hear themselves speak without actually realizing the need to contribute interesting content to the conversation.

It was a decent podcast but the lag/overall crash/dead silence with Wombat just really ruined it for me. That and well, I was distracted by the chat room.

I think alot of it was just first live episode excitement as the standard becomes normal I think it would even out and become more productive, but then again im probably one of the calls your referring to but my point is that as more people become accustom to the format it just wont be a big deal, and the excitement of just calling in to call in will fade away.

Hey CheapyD and Wombat, just wanted to say that, tecnical issues aside, good show last night. Maybe sticking with the regular format would be best, and doing a live show on 'special ocassions'.

Problem was none of the callers had actual questions, so maybe if there was a specific event going on then people would have more directed questions.

Anyway it was an interesting experiment, I stayed up til 3AM my time to listen and behold the madness that occured in the Stickam chat. People sure did seem to love spamming it with useless comments.

I didn't attempt to listen (was with the kids at Shrek 3 at the time), but will definitely listen when it's posted - sounds interesting.

So, can anyone post the CAG names of people who called in (besides Wolfgame)? I'd like to know who called so I can hear what you nobs sound like ;).

Ron of destructoid(spelling?) called in and it was pretty funny. The lag kind of killed most of the cagcast and the chatroom was crazy. It was an ok first try and it can only get better.

I have to say Cheapy, you gave Excite Truck a bad rap. My friends and I love playing it, especially with the custom soundtrack.

I just listened to the podcast on my drive home for the weekend. The live calls might work better as people get used to the format, but I tend to prefer the two-person format the show has had all along. I had also enjoyed the recent interviews you guys have had on the show.

Additionally, Cheapy, you mentioned that you were thinking of a MacBook for a new laptop. I'd highly recommend the machine, as it's what I'm typing this on right now. The laptop has a gorgeous display, a very comfortable keyboard, and is nice and thin. Once you have a chance to work in Mac OS X, you won't want to go back to Windows (I didn't). I'd recommend ordering it from Amazon, because they offer a $100 rebate on all MacBooks that they are the seller for (the rebate is done electronically, no paper involved, and all the Amazon rebates I've done for work were processed very quickly). I sprung for the DVD burner in mine when I got it in February and it produces high-quality burns in my testing. The white 120 GB model with burner is $1300 at Amazon ($1200 AR) and the white 80 GB model withot burner is $1100 ($1000 AR). I'd also recommend picking up a copy of Parallels Desktop for Mac, which is software that lets you run Windows (or any other OS) in a window on your Mac desktop at almost full speed. It's $66 at Amazon and is an amazing application.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents. Keep up the good work, guys.

Our second attempt at a live show will take place on Wednesday 6/6, 8pm EST.

See the first post for FAQ.

Hmm, they've got the html code to put it on the site. It'd be cool if it worked in the forums, though would that work on the frontpage? It'd be able to get more people to listen without the need to go to stickam's site.

The live show still interferes with my schedule, so I won't be able to check out the whole thing, but I should be able to check out 10-15 minutes or so.

Here's a good idea Cheapy:

Why not tell us before the show airs what segments will be on the show, like Hype Wagon.

Maybe we will try a listener Hype Wagon again.

I also applaud Cheapy for doing a live show, but the calls from listeners don't improve the show. I think better questions are raised from the CAGbag than a random caller who doesn't even know music from Kid Icarus or Space Channel 5.

Maybe a better idea would be to request questions on the forum before each live show, and select one or two you'd like the people who posted to actually ask on the air. That way you'd know who was calling and would have to deal with any issues. Plus, you'd have a quality question instead of people calling in with no idea what they're talking about.

Maybe have someone call in to discuss what's on their mind, such as Forza 2, and then go off and talk about that. I'm getting the steering wheel for Forza and would love to give some quick thoughts on it and whether it's worth the money.

One more thing -- the success of the podcast genre is due to listeners being able to listen whenever they want. Doing a live podcast is the opposite of that, you'll have few live listeners but many more downloading it when the time is right for them, just like using Viagra.

just a few thoughts...

Damnit! I have a funeral to go to tonight. Well, that was kinda mean. I hope there is another live CAGCAST.

BTW, you should put this kind of info on the homepage Cheapy

Too bad you can't have JimmieMac, Shrike, or similar screening the calls.

Actually, that alone might be worth airing.

If this becomes regular, I'll have, like, 10 different shows to watch live on Stickam.

Can't wait for it to start. I'll be calling in.
heh, at least they had a live show last week. Seems like there's some issue preventing it from airing...
its working just fine for most of us, maybe you have out of date codecs.
Everytime i try to login to the chat room the feed dies
Yeah me too, and they sound like robots, even moreso than normal.
