Can't wait to see what they'll knock down to $9.99 that week, or $4.99 after coupon.

KingOfOldSchool's FAQ

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
Anyone try trading in HD-DVDs (redbox)?... they're sorta DVD.. anyway. Correct?
We've been over this, it doesn't work.

Is there a list of the $9.99( $4.99 after Coupon) that aren't on sale? Just regular priced $9.99 Blu Rays? I tried searching and filtering on Best Buy but way too many $7.99 ones ruin the search. I know someone posted one last time/.

Found the last copy of Madgascar and last copy of Fight Club w/movie cash for Taken 2. Interestingly enough, the tags for $9.99 Madagascar 1 & 2 weren't up on the shelves. But when it was scanned, it rang up as $9.99. Think I'm done snagging more blus until Black Friday

Someone posted the link for last week... All you have to do is just search Blu-Rays > $7.99 - $9.99 and then sort highest price to lowest price.

I turned in one HD DVD along with four DVDs this past Friday. It was accepted. YMMV though. What I did was put it into a regular sized DVD case so it wouldn't stick out.

I really hope we can get a better OP next time!

Is that $4.99 after coupon list supposed to be all movies? I see a lot more movies priced at $9.99 that are not on that list.
It is only stuff that is on sale. Normal $9.99 Blu-rays would be too exhaustive to list.

We've been over this, it doesn't work.
We HAVE been over this... it is YMMV, Ive done it about 5 times with no problems...

Hmm, I might get Dumb and Dumber. I'm trying to think of movies I actually want to own. I guess I will research pricing on Sin City, Kingpin, and Caddyshack. I already have flash gordon, FFAC, Labryth, Dark Crystal, Leon, the Crow, Pulp Fiction, and some others on blu.
Would really like to get Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter 3D next week.
Little hard to do that when the promotion is over on 10/20/12, which is this Saturday.
My store told me that Madagascar 1 and 2 wouldn't be released until Tuesday to coincide with the 3rd one. Although I see that Spooge picked them up. Was I straight up lied to or was the employee just uninformed?
i went to two stores yesterday. one store looked for more than 1/2 hour for them even though the system said they had 6 in stock. they couldn't find them. i went to a 2nd store and they couldn't find them either. i assumed they pulled them to put out on display today iwth the release of the third one.

i went to store today and one employee couldn't find them. he said, let me check the "shipper" and they were out there. i guess the blue shirts call all those cardboard displays "shippers." there's a bunch of them in stores right now with halloween movies and Prometheus from last week.

That's a pretty universal name for those throughout all of retail. It's because the products are all usually shipped right in the display.

had the same problem found them at the bottom of the display :) 2 left of each.

My haul:
Workaholics
Babe
Madagascar
Madagascar 2
FF: Advent Children (never saw it but for 5$ worth a look)

Turned in my last two DVD's today to pick up a couple more Blu's.

Has anyone elses Best Buy changed the customer service area from the online pickup area to now the Geek Squad counter? WTF?

It's bad enough waiting in line behind people trying to return crap opened and without a receipt, but now they've got us waiting behind people getting their computers fixed just to snag a couple coupons?

Both Best Buys near me have had both combined as one desk for a while now. I rarely have a long wait, though.

Anyone know if the X-Men Blu-Rays have any significant extras not found on the DVDs? I am hesitant to un-condense my X-Men DVDs, especially since it'd be hard to sell the DVD/Digital Copy discs from the set.

Might just be my local store, but the past few weeks when I've been there to do this, or PM's, I've noticed no one is ever really in the checkout line but always the CS line.

Seems like a bunch of dumb fuckers with no receipts, something that they in all likelihood broke, or a bunch of people paying bills they could probably do online. I hate to sound like a doucher, but when al my transactions at CS take less than 3 mins, I get annoyed at others that always take 15-20 mins.

Picked up my (most likely) final haul today:

-Avatar 3D (FINALLY!)
-Pete's Dragon
-Gremlins 2 (was very happy to find this one in-store)
-The Neverending Story
-A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 & 3
-Jaws (exchanged it for the 2nd copy of Tintin 3D I picked up last week)
-Clerks/Chasing Amy/Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (came up $4.99!! can't believe I found a copy in-store)

As someone who works returns at a different retail store, I can tell you this is the truth. People return used stuff all the time and despite being able to pay bills at any register they still go to Customer Service.

Great haul tonight, mostly because I was able to find a copy of the Alien Anthology on bluray, and with the trade-in coupon and manufacturer coupon it was only $19.99. :D
I checked the inventory of the stores in my area online and it said no store had a copy. Decided to check it out anyways since I wanted to get Pete's Dragon today. The first store I went to truly had no copies, had someone check for me. They also told me that every other store in the area had at least 3 copies, with some having more than 6. So I quickly went to another store right before closing and managed to snag one. Besides the set and PD, I also picked up Child's Play for $5.99 with a manufacturer coupon. So everyone check your stores and have them look up their inventory if you really want that Alien set, you may just get lucky. ;)

This was in South FL by the way.

I think I made my final run today unless I can find a store that knows how to do a special order. So far no one seems to know what "special order" means. Tonight I bought Avatar 3d, Madagascar, and Madagascar 2. Here's my final tally for this Upgrade and Save promotion. I spent less than I usually do. It comes to about $209+tax if my math is correct. I only used giftcards and rewardzone coupons. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought much at all.

Jaws - $11.99 (thanks to universal $3 coupon)
8 Mile - $1.99 (thanks to universal $3 coupon)
Rampart - $4.99
Fast Action 6 pack - $4.99 (bought for eXistenZ)
Red Dawn - $4.99 (has $7.50 hollywood movie money for remake)
I spit on Your Grave double feature - $4.99
Workaholics Seasons 1+2 - 7.99

The Great Mouse Detective - $14.99
Cabin in the Woods - $14.99
ET book edition - $16.99 (used one of those universal 100 $3 coupons)
Prometheus 3d - $19.99
Taken - $5

Collateral
X-Files 1+2
Road to Perdition
American Werewolf in London
Nightmare before Christmas

Shaun of the Dead
The Dictator
Paranormal Activity 3
Ultimate Avengers collection
Taken (with movie cash)

Avatar 3d
Madagascar
Madagascar 2

I also bought this Halloween 3 pack of Halloween: the Curse of Michael Myers / Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later / Halloween Resurrection for $7.99. It doesn't release for a few weeks but two BB stores I went to had 4 copies each. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/Halloween-the-Curse-of-Michael-Myers-and-Halloween-H20-Twenty-Years-Later-and-Halloween-Resurrection-Blu-ray/ref=%26%2574%2561g%3d%2562l%2575r%2561y%252d000%252d20?SubscriptionId=AKIAIY4YSQJMFDJATNBA&tag=bluray-000-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0091G7C6E&ASIN=B0091G7C6E&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Human centipede-9.99
Cabin in the woods-19.99
Dead snow-9.99
Attack the block-12.99
Taken w/mc-9.99
Dictator-9.99
Leon the professional-9.99

Unfortunately, me being scared that they would sell out of dictator...I did the store pick up on Sunday when I tried to do a U&S today on it, the associate said I would have to wait for about 4-5HRS...Basically when store closed.

Also nabbed the blair witch project for 4.99

2 stores have been completely out of Cabin in the Woods, but have so so many rows of The Hunger Games and The Lucky One... Starting to remind me of the days at Blockbuster with new releases...

Alcatraz Complete Series - $24.99
Pete's Dragon - $12.99

Moonrise Kingdom - $14.99

Might be it for me, save picking up Red Dawn with the movie cash attached.

I didn't buy 30+ blurays since this past Sunday. I bought several of them last week. The E.T. digibook was $24.99 last week. I bought it the first day it came out. Minus $5 for upgrade and save and minus $3 for the Universal 100 coupon, it came out to $16.99.

Here's a link to the Universal 100th Anniversary coupon. http://universal.promo.eprize.com/100thanniversary/

They will email you codes to use in the "lottery" spin. You will get a $3 coupon with each code, but it will only allow you two coupons per computer.

I actually tried to get the standard E.T. bluray for $9.99 last week with the two coupons but I got turned down. The Digibook says "Universal 100th Anniversary" at the top and the standard version doesn't. The only reason I bought the digibook was because I could easily use the coupon. Using both coupons is ymmv though, because many Best Buy employees don't know the Best Buy policy of accepting 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 best buy coupon on the same item.

Why the hell did Best Buy re arrange everything from alphabetical to genre based alphabetical? I know someone pointed it out earlier in the thread but I just went there today and it is a cluster f*ck. And the cashier lady didn't put in my reward zone number so now I have to manually enter it. Kind of a pain

Damn, this is worrying me because I've heard it a lot in this thread and in the bluray.com Upgrade and Save thread. I haven't seen it yet at any of my stores but I know it's coming.

They are making Amazon.com look a lot better with that weird set up of genre and mixing up DVDs and blurays. I don't see the reason to buy blurays at Best Buy unless there's an Upgrade and Save going on or you really want one of their preorder bonuses like the Avengers metal case. Even if you have best buy credit from game trade ins, you can just buy a kindle card and buy your blurays on Amazon, saving both gasoline, and a lot of time searching their poorly organized shelves.

My guess is they think having Blu-rays and DVDs together will increase impulse sales, when in reality it just makes it a major pain to browse, especially when the organization of the titles is godawful. Instead of casually browsing, you'll just spend even more time to find specific titles.

Not really, just go on myrewardzone.com and put in the number at the bottom of the receipt along with the total.. couldn't be easier.

I know this is YMMV, but I told my wife about the online price match. she was near the best buy in savannah. they had a battle royale complete collection left. she price matched it to 15, and she carries the upgrade and save coupons (mostly because I would forget to bring them)...they did an override to let her use it. 10 and tax for this set is pretty awesome.
