Can't wait to see what they'll knock down to $9.99 that week, or $4.99 after coupon.

KingOfOldSchool's FAQ

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

I say that every time, then find myself finding ones to pick up on the cheap...often ones I never really had any intention of owning.

Sweet pickup today. I wanted the three Xmen Blus and brought up the combo packs by accident, as they were all that was left. Rang up wrong, of course, but customer service said they'd honor the sticker anyway! So even though I was blind, they gave me the three Xmen combo packs for $5 each(after coupon)! Also picked up the Kevin Smith Trilogy thing for $5, Stargate Anniversary for $7, and The Sting for $7 after Universal coupon and $5 coupon

I dont mind mixing bluray with dvd, but I really really hate the movie organize by genre thing Best Buy is doing since movies can cover multiple genres. Looked all around the story for Neverending Story yesterday. Thought it might be drama, so I checked there, wasn't sure if it was organized by T (the) or N so I checked both spots. Wasnt sure if I was in the wrong spot or if it was out of stock, so I checked sci fi, action, then comedy (maybe, it has some funny parts), finally came across the dvd in the family section (wanted the blu ray). Guess it makes sense in family (didnt see that section before) but I see this becoming a problem down the line (Batman Under the Red Hood was in family, I would have guessed action).
Not really, just go on myrewardzone.com and put in the number at the bottom of the receipt along with the total.. couldn't be easier.
Yea but it's easier when they just input your number and its done at the store...Argh so many people quoted my post and I put now instead of know.
Turned in a DVD, but couldn't find anything I wanted. Will check again next week and see if any newly on sale BDs catch my eye, and just grab something in any case.

Hopefully I don't have issues since they just gave me a photocopied coupon this time rather than an original, and they never give any recycling receipts at this BB any of the times I've used this program.
Update on this....used the copied coupon with no problems whatsoever today. Cashier just scanned it with out comment.

Got an e-mail that I had a $5 reward zone certificate expiring today so hit the store to use both. Just got the 4 disc (3D) version of Prometheus. I was leaning toward that when I couldn't find anything last week, but it was sold out at the time. 3D is moot for since I don't have a 3D TV, but I wanted the extra documentary.

My BB did a restock I guess, so I was able to grab the last copy of Taken for $5 with another $10 movie money coupon! Great deal. I did the phone check upgrade too, so no dvd trades today, which is good, since I traded all my unwanted DVDs to BB over the last few U&S sales.

Hey where did you see the coupon for Prometheus 3D on coupons.com or are you just figuring the one listed should work on 3D as well?

I'm going to try for a $5 price adjustment with the prometheus coupon.

OK. So I got Prometheus last week with the upgrade and save. So if I take my receipt and this coupon with me to best buy would they refund the $5?

Are the extras on the Prometheus 3d version worth it? Trying to decide between the combo pack and the 3d version (dont care about the 3d bluray movie only curious about the additional special features)
Are the extras on the Prometheus 3d version worth it? Trying to decide between the combo pack and the 3d version (dont care about the 3d bluray movie only curious about the additional special features)
Absolutely worth it. If you have any interest at all in the moviemaking process, the Alien/Prometheus mythology, or Ridley Scott, the primary 220-min making-of documentary is a must-see. The extras are definitely not fluff, promo pieces. They're legit, behind-the-scenes examinations of how this movie got made. I've collected around 3,000 DVDs and BDs over the years, and I think Prometheus' extras disc ranks as one of the best I've seen.
DVD version is $24.99, BluRay version is $29.99. Says so clearly on the shelf tag and whomever put them out dropped them in the wrong slots in the display.

You should be lucky they didn't tell you that you were wrong and showed you the shelf tag showing that the DVD version, not the BluRay version, was $24.99.
The sticker on the case said 24.99 and it rang up for 29.99. The weird part was the coupon didn't take it off so she manually rang it up for 19.99

Thanks to everyone for posting their pick-ups. Normally i could care less about those type of posts but it really helps with this kind of thread. Only purchase i kind of regret is Rampart. That movie is just too slow for me. I did notice that Woody is in every single camera shot(well scene more so). That was kinda different and I respect the hell out of small budget and Indie movies....this one was just not for me though.

Gonna go Fri, to pick up my last haul, all the non $5 flicks I've yet to get

It's BB policy to accept 1 manufacturers coupon and 1 best buy coupon on the same item. I've ran into lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of customer service employees who don't believe this is BB policy. It's ymmv.

It was announced not too long ago that Best Buy will be matching Amazon's price for the holidays and the BB employee I talked to today said that they're already matching Amazon and will continue to do so after the holidays; that said, I tried to get a price match on 'The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D' and the cashier seemed to not see any problem with that.

I did, however, run into an issue when I tried to also use an Upgrade and Save coupon and was told by a manager that I, unfortunately, would have to choose between the price match or the U&S coupon (the Amazon price is 30.95 and the price after U&S is 29.99... so it's essentially a wash since I could just buy it on Amazon and not have to pay taxes)... has anyone else been able to get both? Is this ymmv or is it just not gonna happen?

Unless they've changed how the register works, as soon as you do a price adjustment by manual adjustment or via price match, coupons tend not to work.

A PM is also the "other deals and promotions" section that the coupon legal says it won't work with.

Apparently I won't sit this one out after all. I just picked up the 4 disc set of Prometheus for $15. I don't care for the idea that I have to buy the 3D edition if I want any extra features, but I couldn't justify skipping out on the bonus disc for only $5 more.

It's amazing the difference that an extra $5 makes on movie decisions :D

I think it depends on your CS. When they price-matched and the coupon didn't work he said it's cause they PM'ed it, and I said it works on ANY Blu $9.99 and up and they overrode it. So YMMV I'd say

I tried last week to get a price match on Rock of Ages from Toys r' Us and use an U&S coupon, but their system wouldn't let both go through. Previous times the system would let both go through, but they must have updated the system.
I think that's just asking to get cancelled. I did three for in-store pickup (one for each of my girls, and an extra for our collection of Disney plush). Now let's see if I get the ready for pick-up email.

Nice! I still haven't picked mine up, but I've gotten a pick up reminder. I'll probably head there tomorrow to get them.

hmm, I am debating should I get the Stargate: Atlantis set for 75. It is a pretty good deal but not sure if it is worth 75 since i watch them before and amazon prime have them to watch for free.

I had a 2 plush order. Upon pickup they couldn't find the second one. They offered to hold one at a store a bit away. (gas > desire). Told them to keep my penny. Concerned Rep was extremely glad I didn't "go into a rage fit".

At least I got my Taken and Fight Club w/HMM. Maybe that kept me calm...

btw, for every good deal at BBY, something wrong happens with me...and I remind them!

It's definitely ymmv. In the previous round of u&s, I must have went to 3 best buys and used manufacturer coupons with u&s coupons with no problem. Today, I went to one where the manager absolutely refuse to take both coupons at the same time (for people in NYC, avoid Atlantic Ave. store like the plague if you're trying to use coupons of any kind not only during u&s but to fair to them, they do pricematch Target sometimes even without the ad) even when I argued that I had no problems using both coupons in 3 other stores in the city. All she had to say is that's what happens when they don't read the terms of the u&s coupon. I wanted to respond it's not like your store is going to lose anything since the coupon would be honored by the manufacturer but didn't want to waste my breath as I know she wouldn't budge for anything. Guess I'll hit a different store tomorrow. Only went to this one to pick up a movie the other stores ran out of.

Picked up Prometheus 3D (actually for the 3D and not the extras) and Alien Anthology today. Ended up getting both for $11.18 out the door after 2 U&S coupons, the 2 $5 off manufacturer coupons, and a $25 RZC.

Debating on whether or not to go back tomorrow and grab Avatar 3D before the deal ends on Saturday.

Sounds great.

I picked mine up for about that price from Borders right before they went out of business and have been enjoying the purchase.

Question to anyone who has used MovieCash offered through any of these Blus/DVDs:

Have you ever had any luck using the coupon(s) for any movie BESIDES what is listed?

i.e. I have 3 Taken 2 coupons, and my gf and I plan to go on a double date tonight with 2 of our friends to see Sinister. I was thinking of using all the moviecash to get 3 of us in.

I suppose if worse comes to worst, you could just go into a different theater around the same movie time?

I just paid for Taken 2 last week, which we all 4 saw...and i really don't feel like seeing it again

I'll likely not get Prometheus but I know what you're talking about. Don't have a 3D TV and I don't know if I will.

I did the same thing for the Avengers 3D combo pack when Target had it for $20. I ended up PMing it at BB and using the mystery $5 cert to get it for $15. Only thing I missed out on was the Target exclusive disk which would have been nice to have.

Picked up:

Apollo 13
Bourne Supremacy
Bourne Ultimatum
Spartacus

All Universal 100 Anniversary combos for $7 each after coupons. Picked up RED for $5

Most of the coupons have the movie title name in big letters, so it would likely depend on how attentive the cashier is. That being said, I have never attempted this, so I don't know.

Finally made it to BB and ended up with four of the Lucifer plush. Also picked up while I was there:

Avatar 3D
Human Centipede 2
Red Dawn
The Switch

They also had a few copies of Dark Void :360: for 3.99, so I snagged one of those as well.

Didn't get as much as I usually get since I didn't have as many spare DVDs this time but I'm happy with what I got.

Alien Anthology $19.99 after mfr coupon and U&S
Prometheus 3D $14.99 after mfr coupon and U&S

$4.99 each for:

Bloodsport/Timecop
From Dusk Till Dawn 4 pack
Madagascar
Madagascar 2
Predator
Predator 2

Thanks for the head's up on the coupons.com coupons for Prometheus and the Alien Anthology. $15 and $20 respectively after both coupons/promos are applied is a no brainer. While Prometheus felt a bit too cliched and phoned in, it was still quite enjoyable, especially at $15 for the full combo pack.

Honestly they don't care. They get reimbursed by the studio/company. You can pretty much go see any movie as employees don't care and pretty much management doesn't care as long as you don't cause trouble, don't record the movie and buy their over priced food. I have two taken 2 tickets that I plan to waste on another movie. BTW T2 was good....good enough for a third one.. hmm...but in all honesty the first one didn't need a second movie...nor does the second one need a third movie.

All the time. Those are manufacturer's coupons treated as cash by the theaters. Worst case, you just buy tickets to the movie specifically referenced on the "movie bucks" or whatever, then exchange the movie tickets at customer service. Or if it's a movie that you want to watch that you know isn't going to be sold out, then just go and watch the movie you want to watch...
