Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Out Now on PS3 & PS4 - 4/11: PS3-to-PS4 Transfer Live!

Huh? I'm not aware that any have shipped. Mine certainly haven't from Amazon, I have Prime so I expect they'll arrive on the 27th.
Odd, on the beta forums many mentioned that their pre orders shipped yesterday.

And I know almost all video games get released on tuesdays, so I figured that made sense.

I think theres a VERY VERY strong chance youll get yours before the 27th. usually when they ship early to the release date they dont use the fast shipping (like they would with prime)

But im basing this off of many people on the beta forums saying their orders shipped yesterday

Plus I remember outside of with Warhammer (where I got the CE and best buy effed up my order) I usually get mmos before their official release dates (i think thats done because of early access)

Could be wrong on this one for sure though

I really hope amazon ships my game out soon, I'd rather not have to wait long after XIV comes out to actually play.
If you pre-ordered, you should have received a pre-order code for Early Access. You can redeem that and download the client and begin playing Saturday, you don't need to wait for the official release date.

Well, that was quick and painless once the redemption page actually worked.  Now, on with the downtime and login queues!

Check your spam filter. Amazon has already sent out their codes. If you can't find it, contact customer service for an early access code.

Is it still working? Trying my code from GS and it keeps giving me an error 3 and this is the first time I tried to redeem it.
I did a friends code for him like 2~ hours ago

It took about 15~ tries, but eventually went through.

And his code worked perfectly for him.

The whole system is trash, its never gonna work perfectly.

Could wait till its later in the day if you want and it might be better

yea my code took 20 tries the system is a POS. Read if you downloaded the P4 installer you just need to sign in with it then download the new patch when EA starts.

As of twenty minutes ago the site was working. I was able to enter both my PS3 and PC codes. Went smoothly actually :D

Yeah I tried for almost an hour straight, and keep getting an Error 3. Will try when I get home from work (lol).

very possible that this means your code was already used then (or youre clicking on the wrong console. ie ps3 instead of pc or vice versa)

Did you check your account and see if anything was registered to it ? http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ > click your name in top right (or log in then do that) > my profile

Noob question again: What does DPS stand for? (sorry, I know this is annoying).
Damage per second. Basically it's MMO parlance for any class whose primary responsibility is dealing damage.

In FFXIV that includes Archer/Bard, Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Pugilist/Monk, Lancer/Dragoon and Arcanist/Summoner with the first being the base class and the second the job. Arcanist also has a second Job, Scholar, but it's a healer.

Thanks, I appreciate the patience with me.

I used an archer in the beta, but will probably roll a new character for Early Access and the actual game. I liked the archer in my limited time with him (only got to like level 4 maybe), but was wondering if there's a character type anyone reccomends? I usually prefer to used ranged/magic characters, though I understand they will probably be fairly weak in the early goings.

I got the EA code to work, and it's working on PSN too, but apparently I have to download the client again? That's kinda lame.

No problem at all! I'm still relatively new to MMOs myself, and I definitely get that all the terminology can be confusing. My recommendation is to read/watch as much info as possible, you'll pick it up very quickly. Assuming you're rolling on Cactuar, joining the CAG linkshell will provide a group full of people who'll be more than happy to help you out.

If you want ranged/magic characters, your best bets are sticking with Archer or going with Thaumaturge. As for whether they're "weak" it really depends what you mean by that. They both do among the highest damage in the game, but they're not going to be able to survive much damage either, so part of playing those roles is knowing when to dial it back so you don't pull aggro (in other words, you don't want the monsters attacking you). Also keep in mind that both classes, especially in the later game, have significant party responsibilities beyond just dealing damage: For Black Mages, crowd control in the form of sleep spells is crucial. For Bards (which is the job which follows Archer) they are responsible for maintaining buff/debuff songs in addition to doing damage.

If you just want to hit things and watch them die, I'd actually recommend the Lancer, which is a melee damage dealer. From everything I've read they're a very good class for MMO beginners, since their rotation is a bit easier to master than the Pugilist.

Really though, this game allows (and encourages) you to play multiple classes, so the best advice I can give you is to eventually try them all before settling on what feels best to you.

Edit: You do NOT need to download the client again. The open beta client will work at release.

Thanks! I probably will use a couple characters, will try out the lancer (although the idea of being a debuff specialist later doesn't bother me).

Either way, I'm gonna roll new ones, and try to get on Cactur. When that happens I'll let you know what my name is there.

PSN name is TheRevelator34 if anyone wants to add, haven't played much of anything lately due to school though.

You don't need to use a couple of characters! That's the beauty of this game, one character can level every single class without penalty. In fact, it will greatly benefit you to do so since the classes can use abilities from one another.

Oh wow, I somehow missed that! That's pretty cool then. How do you switch between classes? Is there a shop/vendor you'd have to visit?

Once you level your primary class to level 10 and finish the corresponding quest, you'll get the ability to join other guilds. You can join them all, you simply need to go to the guildhall (which is in one of the three starting cities, depending on the class) and join. Switching classes is then achieved by simply changing your main-hand weapon. This applies both to the combat classes and to gathering/crafting classes. Holding a lance? You're a lancer! Switch to a bow? You're an archer! And so on. Each class is leveled independently, has its own gear and its own quest line. You can also set up independent gear-sets for each class in your inventory which will allow you to switch from one class to another with one click. It's really quite intuitive once you get the hang of it.

Wow. That sounds amazingly simple. That's sweet.

Excited for this game, sound like a little kid, but I'm gonna try to get all my homework done prior to EA so I can play as much as I can that weekend lol.

Good plan. And let me know if you have any more questions, helps pass the time waiting for this game to come out already. :D

Gonna shoot to make a new char on Cactuar during EA since I missed my window during phase 4. Third time watching the intro is the charm! Lol X.X

That gives me access to EA, but wouldn't I need the code from the inside of my PS3 game copy to play the full game after EA is over?

Didn't see this mentioned in the thread but after you redeem your code on PSN check your services list on your PS3 and the early access should show up under there.

If SE is worth a shit they'll allow some overlap to bridge that gap. I know for SWTOR they gave everyone an entire week to enter their code on top of working with places like Amazon to get the game shipped early. IIRC my copy of the game came the day EA started, so it was really smooth.

So leveling question: everyone says to push for GC quests and get your chocobo to make leveling your sub-class faster but as to where you should level your sub-class, I have no idea. Just from questing normally and doing every side quest/FATE I could find, I was still running out quickly at just level 9. Are you really expected to grind it out?

It's definitely harder to find content to level secondary classes. A few things I've found useful:

  • Saving your leve allowances for secondary classes. There's no reason to use them on your main class, which has plenty of sources of XP. I use these for gathering/crafting, but they can be used for combat classes as well. Same goes for guildhests, which give a huge XP boost the first time you do them.
  • FATE chaining. There are several areas which have FATEs which pop quickly all around the same level. I've found several such areas in La Nosca especially.
  • Chain bonuses from killing mobs. This can actually add up a lot, and is a good reason to do your hunting log (another good source of XP) early. I believe it's kept active as long as the mob you kill is your level or higher.
  • Dungeon grinding. Dungeons are a great source of XP, I've found I was pretty easily gaining at least 1/2 a level with each run up through 20 or so. The chain bonus works there as well.
  • Saving sidequests, especially in starting cities other than your own. When I was leveling Arcanist to 15 in phase 4, I found plenty of quests to do in La Nosca.
  • Armoury bonus. You'll get an XP boost for leveling sub-classes. There's some confusion over whether it's proportional to the gap between your main class and the sub. That's the way they described it as working in the live letter, but it didn't seem to be working that way in phase 4.
That's just a few things I've found helpful. It's never going to be as smooth as leveling your first class, but you should be able to level them with decent speed.

From level 8 (or 9) -18 you can level CRAZY FAST in middle nolesca? (outside of limsa limsa, north west of summersteed farms or something) doing the fate quests there in a cycle

I probably went from 8-18 in maybe 3~4 hours max

it will be VERY tough to stay alive until at least level 10 (assuming you have a full set of gear youll be O K here) but youll level absurdly fast here

You have to know how to kite like a mofoand tag mobs though. Because you will get killed/not as much exp otherwise.

Eitherway I think you can level insanely fast up to 20 with FATEs

So, I tried entering my code I got from the early access site on my ps3, and it said invalid code.  I meant to mention that earlier, but I think I was one of the unlucky ones to get a EU code, granted I have my ps3 linked to my account.

Not sure if this was talked about;

I have my game pre-ordered from Best Buy, when I did go in to pre-order about a few weeks before P1, I was never told to write down any Email or contact info other than being given the receipt so I can pick it up on game day.

How are the CE Pre-Orders given their Early Access codes?

or are only the people who ordered from the SE site given Early Access... =/

When you pre-ordered you should have received an 18-digit code which will be what gets you into early access. Check the receipt, I'm guessing it's on there.

For anyone still worried whether they successfully redeemed their Early Access code, Reddit has identified the methods to check and confirm:

PS3

PC

Hope that helps!

Dammit SE messing up Canadians Access again.

All the Canadian Early Access at my local Gamestop(EBGames) were invalid.

Supposed to get the new codes some time today =P

Looks like I'm all set then! Can't decide if I should wake up early to play or just assume there will be issues and sleep in. . .

I'll be up at 5AM anyway (thanks, asshole cats) so I'm hoping to jump in right then.

For what it's worth, during open beta there really weren't that many people on that early. Things didn't get really crowded until 7-8AM. No promise that will be the case again though.

If Square won't help you, I think your options are to either switch to the digital version from the PSN store, which grants you early access automatically without having to enter any other code, or preorder another copy from Amazon or whatever, hope you get a working preorder code this time, and just cancel/return the extra copy of the game.

When'd you get your code?

Today I paid-off my CE pre-order and asked about the Early Access code and was told that ALL the old codes had a problem and we were going to get New codes by the end of today.

BUT

I'm in Canada and its EBGames here, which is Gamestop in the US.

Also, pretty sure they said PSN is under scheduled maintinence at the moment, may not be able to access some features right now ...

If you check the reddit post someone else posted a link to another post where it says that Squeenix knows that some of the codes aren't working, and are trying to get it to fix.

Don't forget about Guildhests. I saved 1st completion bonus for 2nd class and the ~3.6k exp per was a nice bonus. Then you can spam them for ~1.3k exp each and the Duty Finder finds a match very quick, like 3min, and the Duty itself only takes 5min or so. Great to have that in between FATEs, which are better exp but not always up.

I picked a 2nd class that was of a different starting city, so you get all those newbie quests which do add up if you do them all. So that's 3 starting cities for 3 classes. Plus it helps you to get to know the new city and outside area. Hunting log applicable to that area too, if you pick class of that city.

And fill our that hunting log. Pugilist was pretty impressive DPS and survivability wise solo at low levels. I was able to max the Hunting log by level 12 (fighting level 17-19 monsters).

I ran into some trouble trying to find level 12-14 quests farther out of Ul'duh, as in there was none. But once I hit 15 that opened up Camp Drybone. And 18-19 found tons of new quests at Drybone and Golden Bazaar.
