50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Looks like the deal is dead in the Dallas area. The employees at the store knew about the origins of the coupon and didn't let me use it. The girl working there told me she got a call from another manager saying it was being mass produced and it originated from Kansas. I guess someone there was reading the forums.
 
I was all set to hit some local BBs until I read the last page or so. I guess that's what I get for not checking CAG yesterday.

Oh well, I sent my brother-in-law the coupon and he just called from a BB, asking what games to get...I didn't have the heart to tell him the gig is up:lol:

I should be getting another phone call any minute...

ungh. I missed out. Savannah GA BB's got the call from DM. Missed it by an hour. My only guess is trying it around 6:00 After the shifts change managers. If they aren't informed about it they could potentially still scan it. Kinda sleezy though
 
beat deal EvArrrrRRRrrr!! anyways.. i went to 4 different blockbusters. only did 2 transactions. heres my haul

first store: 179th and broadway (10:24am)

second store: englewood, nj (12:14pm)

the other stores, well, one had no selection (fort lee, nj) and the other on w. fordham road they were being dicks about it (the regular employees). the manager was about to do it. he called a few people. when he went to the back i took the coupon and left. the guy behind the counter said i should come back tomorrow, i said no thanks.

the best way for them to honor this deal is when theres only 1 employee at the store. that means doing it early in the morning. and also, try not to show your coupons before they ring you up. give it when theyre done scanning. at one point when i tried to buy another set of 5 the girl nicely told me that she doesn't think i could do it twice. so she called her mgr or something and faxed her the coupon. she calls back like 5 minutes later to say that i could only do it once and she asked where i got the coupon cause she thinks its an awesome deal. so i left her the other coupon i had.

if they start calling people most likely the deal will not work. so ask for your coupon back and give a lame excuse and leave. i didnt try any other bronx stores since i thought they might be in the same district, so i headed to NJ instead.

i didnt need these games, so i flipped them to game crazy and got $179 worth of credit, it will pay for Rock Band :)

yea i got those 5 games yesterday at around 11:40. i saw the coupon around 10:30 but i was like "nah it's too late to go buy games right now". i forgot that blockbsuters are open until 12.

depends on the store. most of them are only open to 12 on weekends and 11:00 on weekdays
 
how do you buy used game from blockbuster? i know that they rent games... but i didn't know that they sell used games...
 
Woot got 5 games for 25 bones ^__^ Merry Christmas to me. On the side note the other store said coupon is a fake >< WTF oh well time to play some CHEAP games.

Actually, your receipt should have the -xxx.xx for the coupon that will tell you exactly what you saved. My savings was around $204.
 
coupon dead in allentown PA and surroundings..it says that it expired october 15th

Went to a local BB around 11 PM this morning. Grabbed my five games (REALLY good ones, too!), tried to check out, and got most of the way through the process, right up to the confirmation step on the credit card, and she threw her hand on the terminal. Forgot to mention she was on the phone the whole time, due to her apparently justified skepticism. She cancels the transaction, then says the district manager for the Northern Kentucky region just told her this coupon has been popping up in the system all morning and they have no idea where it came from. They believe it's hacked, to which I inquire about "hacked" coupons, and she says there was a similar incident recently about some kind of hacked coupon that made its way 'round the internet. Basically, she didn't believe this coupon was legit from the beginning, even though it worked perfectly, and to add to it, she was told to not let it go through.

She then asks if I'd like to leave my number in case they decide to accept it (yeah right), and of course I decline. Really disappointed about this one. I'm considering going to another one, but might that be risky considering they already have all of information from the first store and I was denied?

I printed my coupon in Black and White(my color isn't working).

The coupon says "Void if Lost, stolen, or copied"

Do you guys think that will be a problem?
 
Regardless of whether this was Photoshoped or not, there is little doubt in my mind that this was the work of a BB employee. If you create a barcode, someone would have to add it to the system for whatever that coupon barcode is supposed to do.

Boy, would I hate to be that employee if they catch him.
 
dead in riverside, ca. Tried 3 different stores, 2 scanned but showed in their system being expired on the 15th. Other store didnt even bother to scan it.

Damn it, your store was so much better then mine. I definitely would have picked up a bioshock that had the slipcover (I got the LE - no slip cover).

Yup. Won't be hard for Loss Prevention and Tech Support to figure out where the barcode originated from if that's how it was made (although I don't think if a store makes a barcode it will work at other stores. It would have to be a DM or higher for it to work in more than one store... I think).

I used it last night around 1110 at the Erlanger KY Blockbuster with zero hassle and they were excited for my savings. They were jsut kids though and not managers who would care.. I had zero faith in it lasting today untill I got off work but my buddy got shot down first thing this morning at the Fort Wright store. He said the manager refused to even try to scan it and told him he didn't care if he lost him as a customer that there was no way he was getting all those games for $25. Sucks to hear about the northern KY Blockbuster district manager calling all the stores. I'm still gonna try again tonight when I go to trade in 3 of the games I got last night. :D

Didn't use my account and decided to pay cash even though I already have $300 in store credit on gift cards. I wanted no way for them to track the transaction especially not to a gift card with a balance....
 
It's funny because the girl first said before seeing the coupon that it may only be for games under $15. I should have gone along with it since she'd be less likely to be suspicious, and would have still saved $50 in the process. T_T

Oh well, good thing I still have Microsoft and Sony vender benefits and the ability to legally download most PC games. :D
 
The one guy at work is worried that Blockbuster will come back at them and threaten to charge him full price (since he used his credit card).

I used a Gift Card, but I'm sure they can tell it was on my account....I never used my membership card though, so I think I am good.

I missed this by ten minutes. Saw the coupon, printed it up, went to the only decent BB/GR store around here. Signage was up that the coupon was fraudulent and not accepted at any BB stores. Shucks.


EDIT: Re-reading the thread, I could have learned that this was phony to begin with. Ah well.
 
No luck in Madison, WI...I literally was 2 minutes late. The lady at the checkout said she JUST got a voice mail saying not to take the coupon. Boooo. Oh well, a lot of the games I had were older anyways, and can be found on ebay for $10 or so. Plus I've got so much crap to play as it is, I'll live. ;)
 
Well I'm kinda glad I didn't even try this now that is has been proven a fake.

Like a lot of people here I'm all for getting good deals but I'm not going to cheat and use fraud to get good deals.

So is this deal dead nationwide? -- Meaning, did BB set the expiration date for the coupon to 10/15 so no one can use it? ...or is it just dead in areas where local management has been informed?
 
no go here also in NY tried it @ 1200pm at first they said it expired yesterday but the date in the coupon said it expire on the 31st , so she (manager)asked if she can make a copy and will call me and hold the game for me...they call me at 2pm and told me its counterfeit.

I see you posted about trying at Burlington & Union you try and others? My friend tried the Fort Wright early today and the manager wouldn't even try to scan the coupon. My boy is new here so he had no gliiter......

I think this thing is officially dead now since people are reporting if you do manage to have it scanned that it rings as expired... I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.... I wonder how long it existed before the DVDtalk guy posted it he seems to be the main source behind this and even edited the text after people spotted typos..... I'm just happy I got to use it once. :bouncy:
 
I forgot to mention last night they had a sign saying they wouldnt take a certain coupon cause it was fake, some 2 free rentals or something.

I ran out as soon as I saw this cause I was on my way out anyway (so im guessing i used the typo one) and had NO idea the coupon was a fraud. Feel kinda bad for using it now. I used credit for one transaction and traded in 3 games for another so they have my info. I better not get in trouble....

same i am kinda worried but at the same time, for the coupon to work it had to come from BB!!
is BB going to sue all of us who got the deal ??
 
Well, if a LOT of people used it, then they can't chalk it up to everyone trying to scam and defraud the company since we just just printed it and used it...I'm sure at least half of those people had no idea. It worked for me until about 12:00, which by then I had hit 3 stores and got 5 games each, and after that I got denied at 5 stores so it's officially dead in the Upstate of SC.

And yeah, I was told about the "2 free rentals" coupon that was fake, but this came up in the system, so I just don't know what to think.

Don't worry about Blockbuster trying to track you down for using this coupon, it would be way too much legal trouble and negative press.
 
I guess I just don't get how if it's fake it rang up just fine and legit. That's why I'm not worried about anything. It's one thing if you try to scam them into overriding something, it's different if the system recognizes and accepts it.

I agree however, that had it been labelled a fake/fraudulant coupon (as it appears to be now) beforehand, I wouldn't have used it.

Good timing for those that got in before it was cancelled though.

Just those two stores. I didn't have time to run around everywhere this morning, but I wish I could have. Now that I know it is fake, although it did ring up correctly, I don't feel as bad missing out on the deal.
