OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).

wow thanks a bunch OP. Any word on when this sale ends? is it both used and new games, are there more games part of the sale?

I had not been to GR in months, i went to pick up a preorder on a PSP game, and said "holy cow," when I saw the new deals(trade 3 get any used for $5).

the CSR recognized me and said "you havent been in here for a while, if you didnt bring in any trades, I will let you get a preorder for $30 without having to do 2 trades."

I understand that they want to get preorders, and i almost took him up on this, but most of the games i wanted were $40(pirates for xbox, a few psp games not out yet) so it would only save me $10.

I will probably spend the last bit of my credit on this nintendo 50% off sale. mario party 6 for $25 is a nice deal if it includes the microphone
You have to have a BB membership to trade games. Then you also have to sign a trade agreement.
Will 1 BB membership be applicable to all BB locations or do you have to sign up for a new membership at each location?

It's only new games, and it's only the titles that you just listed.

I used my inactive BB account from Arizona (hadn't used it in a few years) when I went to a BB in Oregon to trade. They called the store in AZ, verified my account info, and then set me up for a trading account. I still use the same card I got in AZ for all membership issues (renting movies, trading games).

So, one membership will work nationwide, but you will need to sign separate trade agreements at each location (only for trading in - buying used or new games, of course, doesn't even require the membership).

About the sticker on the disc. You realize that the laser is reading the data from the bottom of the label, right? Scratch the bottom, can be fixed. Scratch the top, instantly fatal.

Traded in two NCAA Football 2005 at GR today to preorder GTA: San Andreas.

GCN NCAA Football 2005 7.00 credit (bought for 7.99 -20% off -2.60 in credit at EB)
XBox NCAA Football 2005 12.50 credit (Best Buy 4.99 +tax)

Trade 2 get $29.99 Preorder

Had $4 credit at GR, so around $20 for San Andreas out of pocket. Not bad. Been waiting for this for a long time!

Picked up:

Eternal Darkness $5 and Pikmin 2 for 22.50 at the Plymouth, MI GR.

They had all the Nintendo games out on an endcap (MP2, Pokemon, GBA Zelda, Pikmin2, ED, SFA, etc.). You have to ask for the 50% because some of the employees there did not know about the deal.

Edit: Is GR updating their prices on a different day, or are they doing it based on when they are getting alot of the games traded in at the same time? KOF:MI dropped to $18 (this week), but on Tuesday it was $25.

I'll definately bring my digital camera when I go up to work tomorrow to get a picture of our sign. I remember the last time we had the trade 3, get 1 for $5 deal we had a handful of flippers. One guy in particular tried to do the flipping in one trip to our store. Needless to say, I refuse to assist him. I have no idea how badly this deal is being abused now, but I guess I'll find out pretty quickly!

I think I saw on the barcode that the 50% off sale ends June 27. It's only good on new games, not used ones.

Alright...i didn't trade anything in this time. I did take advantage of the B2G1 free. Check this out:

PS2 Time Crisis 2 (w/o gun) $9.99
Xbox Spiderman (based on the Movie) $9.99
Xbox Magic: The Battlegrounds FREE (Retails for $9.99)

DC-Sonic Adventure (Game only) $0.99
DC-South Park Chef's Luv Shak (Game only) $0.99
PS1-NBA Live '99 (complete) FREE (retails for $0.99)

Just got back from my GR. I think they're beginning to not like me now. Brought up Mario Pinball and 2 Wavebird battery packs. Scan Mario, I ask about the Nintendo half off sale, they don't know, so I suggest they look at map 12. They ask where I heard about that when the manager who was standing nearby had no idea either. They looked in a notebook and came back saying that there was no such sale. Next they scan the battery packs(2) and they come up as 11.99. I say nevermind and apologize for the waste of their time.

They did have all of the GBA titles, Zelda 2, Castlevania, Metroid, Starfox, and all the GC titles except I didn't see any Paper Mario.

here is the rubbery strip i was talking about..its NOT on the side that is read by the laser...the strip is on top of the "playstation 2" words...it's hard to see because they tried to make the strip blend in with the black...that little brown part on the right side is an air bubble of the strip...dunno why it's brown in the pic

Removing that would be dangerous to the disc. Directly underneath the label of a cd is the silver/yellow/blue stuff that that contains all the ones and zeroes. There is no plastic layer seperating them, so if the label is torn, scratched, the ones and zeroes are completely obliterated. Damaging the label side of the disc can ruin it much more quickly than damaging the side that faces the laser.

didnt know that...thanks
didnt know that...thanks
Thats why I suggest you take it back and ask for a replacement, foreign objects like that will also effect the way the cd spins. If they are doing it on purpose they need to know it's not acceptable.

I've had this same problem at one of the Gamerush's here. Even though they had the dry erase board up, advertising the sale, the BB employees had no idea about that.

And they told me that "since there's no Gamerush employee to ask right now, I would have to come back later". I was real polite, even insisted that they called a different store where I had previously bought items during this sale, and they told me they didn't have the time and maybe the sale was limited to certain areas, and they put up the sign on accident.

It's too bad this is the only GR in town I've found Zelda II at... I'm not sure what I should do at this point. I've gone in twice, once at night, once in the afternoon, and have never found a GR employee to ask about this, and the BB side always gives me the same blank stare.

Mario Party 5 is 50% off, lol you even quoted the post in your reply. ;)

Sadly the GR next to my house is wiped out of anything that has any trade value. The only used game i really want that i haven't already picked up is RE4 but i've never seen that used at any GR. Hopefully i'll have better luck at the GR whenever i take my RE4 rental back.
Is Eternal Darkness actually part of the sale? And if not, did the sales associate have to manually enter the discount?
One of my friends said he saw it in the 50% off section at one of the GR's... however, at the other two, it wasn't in the section. And there's no manually entering... they have to scan a barcode for each game, it dosen't come up automatically like at other stores.

Maybe Cory just forgot to add a game? Because I'm fairly certain that the barcode dosen't work on ALL games, as that would be way too abusable too easily.

I just got back from dealing with what would likely be one of the most inept Gamerush employees I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

I took my three games to go trade in toward the promo, as I've done dozens of times at this same store. The guy rings in the first two games, and then tries to ring the third (A metroid prime from the KMart wavebird bundle).

He tells me he can accept it because it has "Not for resale" written on the back.
I can accept that, so I ask him what games are required to have to be traded in....
he tells me that only the disk need be there to be traded in. So I take the insert out of the sleeve, and ask very politely if he could trade it in now. He says no, because the insert says "Not for resale"... despite the fact that the insert was removed, and that they are empowered to accept disk only returns.

I conceed, and say "Fine, I'd rather not trade these in right now."
At which point he tells me... I've already processed these and can't back out now.
Whatever, I think, as I sign the form and just accept the paltry sum they gave and just decided to blow it off.

I then place the dead cases that had off Mario Pinball Land and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
(which were displayed prominantly in the center of the store under a 50% marked price sign) on the counter and ask if I could get these. He disappears for about 5 minutes, and comes back and says "We don't have those". So I take one of the dead boxes of Star Fox.
I then asked, "And this?" Nope.
Pikmin 2... How about this? Nope.
Metroid Prime 2? Nope?

I swear, it's like this guy went out of his way to be as unhelpful as possible.
It sucks too, because prior to this, I've never had a problem at ANY of the many Blockbuster/Gamerushes in my area.

Yeah the barcode doesn't work on all games (tested this today on some gameboy video and resident evil 4).

Eternal Darkness is part of the sale though, I did forget that one.

I conceed, and say "Fine, I'd rather not trade these in right now."
At which point he tells me... I've already processed these and can't back out now.
.
Wow.. that's really shifty.

It's almost like he forced you to trade them in. I would have snatched back those games with the quickness.

Well the thing is, I expected him to work the way all of the other (well trained) employees at that store behaved. They scan the games, tell me the price, and then ask if I'd like to trade them.

At this point, they then process it.
I'm more than happy with the normal standard of service I recieve at that store... which is why this little episode bothers me so much.
Hey Cory, any news as to when the Trade 3 get one for $5 ends?
Also anything new in the new map?
No news yet other than September still.

New map comes in thursday (last new deals were the nintendo one and $4.99 hip controllers priced $9.99 w/new game purchase)

I traded in 3 things today -

PS2-Gran Turismo 4 - $30
PSP-Hot Shots Golf - $24
PSP-Ridge Racer - $22

ended up getting nba street for psp for $5
Traded in two NCAA Football 2005 at GR today to preorder GTA: San Andreas.

How did you get the xbox one for $5? I see that it's almost $30 online.

If he was still processing the third disk, how could possibly have refused to cancel the trade. Sounds real shady to me, either that or he completed the trade before he tried to process disk# 3, and then didn't want to admit his mistake.

How come you didn't ask for a manager to reverse his mistake, or are you like the rest of us afraid that by complaining they will shut you out of all the deals.

Seems a lot of people are having problems w/ gamerushes not giving games back if your change your mind.

When trading just be careful. Once trades have been scanned and posted, they are permanently in inventory and, while they can be taken out, its a pain in the ass and most people do not know how to do it.( I do of course but its highly unadvised)

Reason being is that ALL TRADES ARE FINAL.

Just so long as you haven't signed the thing that prints up you may can persuade them, as signing the thing legally obligates you and in effect signs the games over to blockbuster.

Great Haul yesterday!

PS2-Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness x 2 @ 1.50 each = $3
PS2-Nightmare of Druaga = $18
XB- Spider-man $3
XB-Crimson Skies $7
PS2-NCAA March Madness 2005 =$12.50
Total Credit gained: $43.50

Because of Trade 3, get 1 for $5,
I bought Gran Turismo 4 and Dynasty Warriors 5 for $10.78

Bought Raze's Hell new at MSRP, $21.53 after tax.

Bought GC Hip wavebird Battery Pack for $1.07 after tax.

i hope my gamerush still has that used copy of episode III for xbox. need to unload advent rising, crash and burn, and echo night beyond.

Sweet... question answered! Thanks! (And who says this thread isn't helpful?)
Thats why I suggest you take it back and ask for a replacement, foreign objects like that will also effect the way the cd spins. If they are doing it on purpose they need to know it's not acceptable.
If that's what I think it is, it's a security sensor. To be quite honest, I didn't think it would come to that, but it has. Slicers are the worst enemy of BB, and while BB is evil, I hate people who steal. They'll slice the case (where the security sensors are, on the case and locks) and just walk out with the DVD. I suppose they got tired of it and put the strips on the disc.

They usually aren't extremely sticky, so you could probably take them off with no issue. Just do it at the store so they know to find you another should it screw up.

I've always been able to get them to scan them and tell me how much each game is trading for and then been able to decide on trading or not without a problem at my local GameRush. Of course, I make a point of asking them to do that up front... Thanks for the warning, though.

Yeah thats how I do it (status, scan). I find its very easy to habitually hit post on trades even you are printing a price quote as its done from the same menu, asits done the same way as accepting trades.

I'm still a little confused about the 50% off Gamecube titles...

Does this apply to GameRush as well as Blockbuster (there are NO Gamerushes in my area)? OR simply YMMV?

YMMV on Blockbusters...
:)

you now proudly own a SpottedNigel previously played game. Traded that in within the last couple of days (for Jade Empire). Now im just looking for a copy of Smart Bomb
Man this is a huge honor I've been a big fan of yours since the wshakspear days. Thanks for trading it in by the way I am really enjoying it.

oh man, i feel you jsweeney! i went to a gr with all new employees (i think they fired all the old one's for flipping) and wanted to buy some nintendo games for 50% off. he said there was no such deal, but i persisted (politely). i asked if he could look it up in his "book of deals" or map pack (i'm not sure what it's called), but he said they don't have one and he can only give me deals that are on the flyers (which was only the trade 3, get one for $5). i felt it was best to just leave the store right then and there b/c people like that will not help you no matter what you ask for lol. c'est la vie! i really felt like he was just being lazy or condescending to me and vowed that i would never go back to that gr.

Slicers... You just answered one of the questions I had about the occassional case with the cover slit. Well to avoid slicers they can put the sensor on the inside of the case. You'd have to slice pretty deep to get that sensor.

Not really, as they'll just slide the disc out and walk out with that. I cannot put DS games out - everytime they've gotten stolen. I now have these ugly white cases out there with just the title.

Cory or Stoned99, did any of you ever find the number or email for Blockbuster corporate?

I noticed today that a guy in the flea market, who's generally had very shitty games for sale, is all of a sudden coming up with very recent used games (and sometimes new) games for sale.

The funny thing is, the idiot forgot to take off the Gamerush stickers off of some of his games... one game he's selling for 40 is on sale at GR for 45, so there's no way he's taking a loss on these.

Either he's flipping titles to amass credit and pick up games, or trading in three cheap titles to get new stuff for $5, and then reselling it for $35-40. Is there some kind of no dealer clause in the trade agreement? It kind of sucks that the GR's here are bare, and this guy has all their decent games for 35 - 40 bucks.

What's funny is that every title Cory listed in the Nintendo 50% off sale, he's got multiples of each for sale. I could pretty much go through his booth and find all the items that have been on sale the last few weeks.

Auto Modellista for PS2 still gets $5, but the shocker is -
GTA: San Andreas gets $18! Got a feeling this price will drop on Tuesday... surpringsly high price, since this store has at least 15 copies.
