They tried that already with Arthur Petrelli and it was super lame. They managed to make Robert Forster uncool! That's almost impossible.

linderman was better than arthur petrelli as a "behind the scenes" vilian. but of course they had to kill him off, lacklusterly of course.
they need to do some sort of brotherhood of mutants thing, have sylar be the leader, grab some other past and new baddies to join up and have them go head to head with the company (which are now the good guys). and maybe have the brotherhood (or whatever they want to call it) get backed by some mysterious powerful individual, with or without power.
