This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on missed high-quality games and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new idevice.
Anyone know what the best/most fun casino slots game is on iPad? The game itself doesn't have to be free, but I'm not looking for anything where you have to pay to play or whatever. Thanks for any recommendations...
My favorite is
http://appshopper.com/games/slots-ultrapack-9-slot-games-for-ipad
They also sell the individual slot machines outside of the bundle. After the app is purchased, there is no other payment necessary.
I bought Plants Vs Zombies an hour before the sale started, I asked through iTunes for a 2 dollar refund but instead got a full refund. The sale is over now so that didn't help much...I'll have to wait for the next sale I guess
Uhh... I think you're confused. They gave you a full refund, but you should still own the game. That's how it's worked for me in the past.
missed out on plants vs zombies :(

wanted to see how it was like on the touch
I love how Apple has spoiled us with the prices on their games so much that we moan that the game is too expensive at $3 when the cheapest other version out there is like $10 on other gaming systems. The game is exactly the same as those other versions , yes its nice to pay a lower price but supporting the developers who bring us cheap gaming goodness should be supported.

Thanks for those who pointed out Asphalt 6 was free , its a solid enough racer , one strange thing i noticed is that the HD version is about 50 mb smaller than the iphone version , given better graphics on the HD version is there features missing or something?

Smaller file sizes for iPad are common, I believe it has to do with iPhone 4's having the retina display and iPhone/touch apps also needing files that will run on the pre-retina models, at least that was how it was explained to me.

Thanks for the reply , that makes alot of sense.

True, i got the refund AND the app is still on my iPhone

I think it sucks. For example, who wants an "extended sample" of a book? Blech...

Second wishlist drop in one day! The really great td game Epic War TD for iPhone has gone free a few times before (and probably will many times again) but the iPad version just dropped to free for the first time!!! Get on it while it's free! You may have to wait a little bit as it seems like it's currently being modified. Maybe this will become the "lite" version now that there's a pro version out.

Say whaa, a pro version?! I paid for this a while back. I better not have some lesser gimped version now.

*shrug* It's funny though, the "regular" Epic War TD for iPad is 69 meg while the Pro version is 96 meg. It's like they flipped the numbers. It seems like a lot of extra content to bump it up almost 30 megs, though the app store description makes it sound like just a few more maps and modes.

Swords and Soldiers is listed as .99c for a limited time only weekend sale (which seems weird as today is Thursday - this is in iTunes, not another website). I think it was $2.99. It's my favorite Wiiware game at $10.

PvZ is littered with minor differences. I'm playing both PS3 and iPod touch now (due to PS+ and .99c sale, finished PC many times over years ago). The iPod version wants $50,000 per minigame pack, the PS3 has been unlocking them as I go. They also play a little differently due to Dualshock vs. touchscreen controls. PS3 has multiplayer. Basically the same but different.

I got Asphalt 6: Adrenaline. I'm not a big racing fan but I'm super impressed by how much game an iPod can play. It seems to have everything you'ld find in a retail console game. Does anything on the DS compare to it?

Asphalt Adrenaline is a complete copy of Burnout, and that's pretty rad in my books. GAmeloft can copy games as much as they want as long as the original developer's not making them for iOS and I want them
Looking forward to Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory this Thursday (according to their Facebook page) for $4.99.
There aren't many WWI air combat games on consoles or iOS, this one looks awesome!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rise-Of-Glory/147251418699304
From the above Facebook page:

I have a bit of bad news: the release date has been postponed for one week. The reasons are somewhere between the marketing group and some technical issues. Overall, it was decided its better to postpone then to ship with any problems.
The new release date is the 22th of September. I'll keep you updated on any news.
Any word on what the iPad controls are like on Pirates?
I just played a little bit of it, and the controls are well-done. I had zero difficulty with them, and if anything I think it's better using the touchscreen than playing on the PC.

$1.99 and well worth it!
Final Fight has been released to the app store and is at $0.99 for a limited time (the price will rise to $2.99 on Sept. 21st).
Final Fight has been out for a while now on the Capcom Arcade app and I don't think there is a difference between this and the new one. Also there's a new Street Fighter II Collection that just came out for $4, its a collection of 3 Street Fight II games that are also in the Capcom Arcade app. I guess if you where hard up for space you might get Final Fight outside of the arcade app, but why release a collection of 3 SFII games that are already put together in a collection? I know Capcom likes to milk as much money as they can out of there games but at least upgrade the games a little.

Word Chat is one of the new FAAD games.
"Face your friends in online video chat while battling words with them (needs a Game Center account)!
Word Chat is a brand new type of game, it’s a fun word game you can play in three modes single player, or you can play online against a friend and see who can make the most out of the same letters! Word Chat uses the front facing camera of the iPhone 4, iPad 2 or 4th Gen Touch so you can see and chat with your friend while playing! If you have a device without a camera you can still see your friends that do and they can hear you via the device microphone.
FIVE fantastically fun modes of play!"

Occupied
is the main FAAD offering.
"Get people quickly into the correct restrooms in this fast paced action game. Try to memorize the changing positions of the signs to score even more and rank up the leaderboard position quickly. As time progresses the game difficulty increases, you have to deal with new categories appearing, moving, changing their positions and even electricity outages. Compare to your friends and all other players worldwide with the integrated leader board."

Not a game, iDrumPad is a retro throwback to the drum machines of the 80s. . .and it's currently available for FREE.
"Drum like it is 1988. iDrumPad is a homage to the original 1988 DRP-1 Drum Pad including retro drumsounds and 8 different preset rhythms. To summarize: a retro drumpad and drumcomputer in your pocket!
iDrumPad features:
- separate iPhone/iPodTouch and iPad version
- 7 original retro sounds: bass drum, snare drum, synthe drum, cow bell, hand clap, claves and hi-hat.
- 8 different preset drumkit rhythms
- Start, stop and adjust the tempo of the preset drumkit rhythms
- Operates exactly like the original
- One easter egg ;-)"

I was just about to post this. I'm a little sad 9mm wasn't on this sale but at least I got to pick up Backstab and Silent Ops. Good sale

Cool, thanks for the news. Getting BackStab & Silent Ops. I really don't mind Gameloft doing all these "copies" or current Xbox/PS3 games, since the developers for these don't catter to the iOS gamers (and if they do, their games are usually horrible). Gameloft's motto seems to be: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and if it hasn't been release yet, copy paste it."
Wow Backstab and Silent Ops hit the .99 mark pretty fast. Still waiting for 9mm to go down.
I was surprised to see Gameloft having universal apps, I think I'll get Backstab and Silent Ops just because of this and of corse because it's there first time @ $.99.

Sorry for such a brief post, but I was sort in a rush to pass the word over here that making it a complex one on my iPhone would have taken a long while.

Here are all the links and such:

Gameloft: Summer holidays are now over and it’s time to get all the Back-to-School essentials: a few school supplies, a trendy school bag and some new apps to enjoy between classes! Luckily we thought about you and came up with a bunch of our best games for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android for only $0.99! But don’t be late, it won’t last forever.
Taking out non-iOS info.

Here’s the full list of $0.99 games, Enjoy :)

+1 for BackStab and Silent Ops. Love those .99 Universal app sales! Now I just need to clear off enough space on my phone so I can actually load these suckers up. . .

In for Backstab, Silent Ops and maybe even Fast Five. Also my girl has been bugging me to get her Dungeon Hunter 2 since she has been messing around with my game.

Quick question for those who have played Backstab - How are the controls? Are they the virtual joysticks or what? Thanks
