Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on missed high-quality games and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new idevice. Picked up Continuity 2: The Continuation and Mage Gauntlet, as well as Watch Me Change. Thanks for heads up on those.

Silverfish MAX (iPad) has dropped to 99 cents for the first time (and I decided to buy at that price):
http://appshopper.com/games/silverfish-max

Swords and Soldiers has dropped to 99 cents and the HD version has dropped to $2.99:
http://appshopper.com/games/swords-and-soldiers
http://appshopper.com/games/swords-and-soldiers-hd

S&S and S&S HD both dropped to those prices a couple times, so there's probably not a hurry to buy at that price, but if you were thinking of getting it anyway, then I guess now's the time.
Yeah, that was frustrating. Doesn't mention that explicitly anywhere on the card either. Once I found that out I couldn't delete that book quicker. That's also why I was wary when I saw the "Monster at the End of This Book" pick of the week. Was relieved to see they hadn't done it to us again...
whoops, just noticed that. I'll just get stick to songs or apps next time. Man, I can't believe they don't specify SAMPLE in the book, that's pretty shady....

 • Drag one non-Newsstand app onto another non-Newsstand app. This will create a folder.
 • While the folder is being created and the little animation is being played out, immediately drag the Newsstand app onto this newly created folder. (It helps to have the apps you’re creating a folder from already close to wherever the Newsstand app is sitting. The trick is to get it in there before the new folder automatically expands on screen)
 • Bam! You’ve got a new folder, complete with the Newsstand app inside. So much room for activities!
Newsstand not only becomes completely non-functional when tucked into another folder, but it’ll actually make the homescreen freak out and quickly reset if you try to open it. Still, it’s better than having an icon you never use on your homescreen until the end of time.
Wow! I'm glad to hear that this is possible! I'll try it today.

Maybe 5.0.1 will fix this in one way or the other (fix the hack or let us hide that garbage).
Apple really needs to consider hiding/uninstalling their apps, especially because they keep adding more and more.
As far as I'm concerned, the second best reason to jailbreak is to hide the Stocks app.
Dark Nebula episode 2 has gone free.
http://appshopper.com/games/dark-nebula-episode-two
(its free on itunes)

Also, figured Id plug this once more.
I 100% reccomend everyone in this thread pick up this app, currently free. AppZappPush
http://appshopper.com/utilities/appzapppush

This app helps you find other free apps easily, it gets the info on when apps go free much faster than any other website ive seen.
Just downloaded appzapp and its great so far, thanks
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but iTunes cards are 15% off at Best Buy.

Thank you very much, I just got a $25 itunes card for my wife's birthday today...

RocketCat's new game (Remember them, makers of Hook series?) finally dropped. Mage... uh... something. I don't have my phone handy. It's pretty decent. For $2 I'll pay for some of their esoteric brand of wit (Though they seem to be playing it straight but cutely charming). I've dropped worse on some of EA's blatant SHS/CoD cash grabs.
Mage Gauntlet
Thanks for this too, I was expecting a Final Fantasy type game out of this but the game is more like a Zelda game (not a bad thing). The controls are smooth and the game is fun.

Lost Monsters is the new OpenFeint FGOTD.
"The city's pet monsters ran away and it's up to you to get them back!
Slide windows, match monsters, blow open barricades and score massive points along the way! Unlock all 12 colorful pets, and multiply your score with crazy combos as you progress through endless levels of fun."

Flick Home Run !
is currently available for FREE in celebration of the World Series.
"Flick your finger and make a homerun.
You can experience a real baseball batting through the physical pendulum.
This is a game in which you can experience various throws based on the pendulum. The ball will fly further if you can hit the ball directly with the quick flick. Experience a “real-life like” batting simulation."

^Yes if you used to play HOMM I would recommend it, it's pretty much a port of the games. I own the first one as well and it's good too but they don't have an iPad version for that one, not sure if I'm going to double dip and get the iPhone version of PH2 or not, anyways both games are worth the dollar but I would go with PH2 Deluxe if I had to get only one.

The Creeps just released a new DLC pack which unlocks everything for $6 instead of the usual $1/each for the 10 items (a total savings of $4). Both the iPhone and iPad version have this DLC, but I don't know if buying the DLC on one would transfer to the other (and I assume it wouldn't).

Thanks, maybe I'll pick it up later!

The iPad version is back to $5. The iPhone version is still a buck but I would hurry if anyone is interested in it. I double dipped.
Zenonia 2 is on sale for .99 and Zenonia 3 is on sale for Gratis. That's free, bro!
Appshopper shows 2 versions of Zenonia 3. One is .99 and the other is free. The description for the free one says that it is the full version.

The free one has always been free since its launch in july. Looks like the difference is the paid one gives you ingame points. And the free one is somehow adsupported. So I guess the more accurate statement is free Zenonia 3 exists, regular version still full price.
Also good news, a new update for League of Evil to make it universal is out.
That's great news.

Kona's Crate drops to FREE for the first time as the OpenFeint FGOTD.
"The task is easy: transfer a crate with unknown contents to Chief Kona before he becomes angry. Using a jet-powered platform as your vehicle, deliver the crate before it's destroyed. Much harder to control than your average box, use your thumbs and stellar maneuvering skill set to propel the crate through a maze of destructive elements. Adjust the gas of the platform with a sensitive touch as this crate is much more antsy than you think. But beware, the Chief can become mighty spiteful and will withhold the contents of the crate from you if you do not complete his task in a timely manner."

The sliding box puzzle game Demon Box is one of the FAAD games.
"Welcome to hell. Trapped by a Demon for his own amusement you struggle through your worst nightmare.
Simple slide and solve mechanics. Easy to learn, difficult to master."

The episodic RPG Degrassi is the main FAAD game right now.
"In the halls of Degrassi – every moment counts and being the new kid at school is not easy. Every day presents all sorts of challenges and how you handle them will be entirely up to you! The Degrassi Game allows you to experience the life as a Degrassi Community School student and every interaction, every decision will lead to a variety of different consequences. Interact with all your favourite Degrassi characters - Eli, Alli, Fiona, Drew and the rest of the gang in this ground-breaking episodic game series. Each new episode features realistic storylines complete with the drama you know and love.
Each episode comes with new mini-games, avatar customization and exclusive bloopers, pictures and videos straight from the producers of the series. Download each episode with "Degrassi Points" that can be collected in-game or purchase them for $0.99! As a bonus, Episode #3 has also been released as an in-app purchase for you to play FREE!"

Don't mean to come off as a dick I really don't know, what's the deal w/ all the "Appshopper" links? Is there some reason for all the links to their website rather than Apple itself? I'm leery of clicking on any links on a website I've never ever heard of before, though I guess if they were evil somebody would've said something by now, right?

Hmm, geez, go drink your morning coffee or tea, and come back later.
You don't have to click any links. Go to your phone/ipod, and search for the games listed and download them.
I actually prefer the appshopper links, as they often contain more information than the apple's direct links. But everyone's different...

App Shopper gives you details that the app store doesn't like price history which factor into a lot of purchase decisions on the thread. It also let's you track a wish list and notify you upon price drops etc. It's been arou d a long time and it just links to the app store so there isn't much trust involved in using the service. I actually hate direct app store links as well because they always try and launch iTunes when clicked on.

AppShopper is your friend.
http://appshopper.com/utilities/appshopper

I actually provide the AppShopper links just because it's easier to get links from their app then to get links from apple using my iPad (at least IMO). Also before the last couple of iOS updates AppShopper helped me keep track of my app purchases before the "purchased" tab in the app store was available. AppShopper is also the main website that alerts me of new deals and updates as well.

Appshopper links also don't automatically open iTunes. I hate iTunes links cause they always pop up iTunes itself.

You really think any links at CAG are gonna be crazy trojan viruses or something? Paranoiiiidddd:roll:

I use direct itunes links because it gives CheapyD referral money. I don't mind appshopper links, it's all personal preference. But for me, I prefer to give the referral to CheapyD than Appshopper. Of course you can just go into your app store/itunes and search for the app and download directly.

Just wanted to introduce a game that I've enjoyed beta-testing alot.
Ninja Pong by AlienWorm is due on the App Store this coming Thursday :D

What is it? In essence, "Ninja Pong is a unique and highly addictive arcade game in which players bounce hundreds of little ninjas by touching the screen and moving finger horizontally." -taken from the Press Release

Check out the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNqX_rgE-lY
Check out the game's website here: http://alienworm.com/ninjapong/

It will debut at following prices:
0.99USD for iPhone/iPod Touch
1.99USD for iPad

This is one of the most positive beta test experience I ever had since I started.
The developers (Marcin and his team) are very friendly and were open to the various suggestions given by the testers! Marcin himself was also often up till 4am to work on the game!

Hope CAG can check this game out :D (Buy a great game, support a dedicated dev! or take it as supporting a fellow CAG who was a beta tester, me :p)

Thanks for all the "appshopper" feedback. I figured it was "safe", but I also sense a lot of hostility on here at the mere mention of slickdeals or fatwallet so I didn't want to be CAG-incorrect. (explaining to my 9 year old son last night why I use a site called "cheap-ass" is enough trouble for me.)
Most useful answer award goes to - "I use direct itunes links because it gives CheapyD referral money. I don't mind appshopper links, it's all personal preference. Though I agree with everyone else who says iTunes website links opening up iTunes is annoying.
