This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

"Slice It!" got an update that fixes the crash bug problems with the new ipod touch 4th generation.

and @conman999 have games that have released in New Zealand first always came to the US store afterwards on the same day ?
It was released in New Zealand which means it will be released later tonight unless there's some sort of problem.
cool thanks, then I'll keep a lookout on it and the reviews.. been waiting for an FPS game for random fun.
yeah there's postseason.tv for $10 which is sold seperately and it's different camera angles since FOX/TBS have rights to actual video coverage. Still get radio feeds though too!! I saw it for $5 last night. I have the app on my android and it's awesome. Love it.

Also waiting for Modern Combat 2, how do we know it's supposed to be released today? I was thinking we were a week or two off.
You don't need a postseason.tv account, I thought you did but I read some reviews on itunes and people were saying you didn't so I went for it and sure enough there they are. Yeah they are different camera angles but the home plate camera is pretty good and you can even view 4 cameras at once but on the iphone it looks pretty small. For $5, I think it's definitely worth it.

oooh I see. I think I get it. the app gives you the ability to view it in app only. the Postseason.tv allows you to watch it on your laptop, and app (if you have the app I guess..) cool I'm gonna think about this.

Can you tell me what audio feed is available in junction with the video? Is it just home/away radio feeds or is it national broadcast - like ESPN radio, TBS/FOX coverage? Thanks.

The 3D platformer Banzai Rabbit is being featured as a FAAD title (http://itunes.apple.com/app/banzai-rabbit/id353423718?mt=8).

"Look up in the sky it's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... a Rabbit !? Banzai Rabbit hops onto the iPhone ready to save the world, and delivers a traffic dodging game like no other!

Part platformer, part puzzler, all action & totally fun in a way that games should be - regardless of your age or skill level."

Hmm.. well I guess there are games that only come out in New Zealand, but any major releases will release about 12 hours earlier on the NZ store. I think what happens is they are submitted to the stores at the same time but since NZ is on an earlier timezone than the US they get it at their "night." Another thing to note is that most big titles are released on Wednesday nights.

The game is simple but addictive and has enough twists to keep players coming back for more. The game features multiple insect enemies. It also has 5 unique special weapons which include landmines that you lay by dragging your finger, force fields that you turn on by double tapping your gun and swipe missiles that follow the path of your finger killing anything in the way. Sonic 4 on the App Store has TWO exclusive levels. I will hold out for now but when this goes cheap I certainly see myself getting it on both iPod touch AND 360.

The app has home and away audio feeds in English and Spanish for the audio only and I think it has Fox or TBS audio depending on the game you are watching, probably depending on what channel the game is on. It's a little weird for the video because they talk about the replay but none of the cameras on the app show any. So they'll be like "Blah Blah look how the pitch blah blah" and you just see it like the people at the stadium. I guess it makes sense tho because if they put the radio audio there would be a delay on one or the other.

I can't believe how big a disappointment sonic 4 is. It's a shitty rip of older sonics. I don't want green hill zone and a casino zone and every other thing that's already been done. Give us new shit!

EA Announces 'Battlefield Bad Company 2' for iPhone and iPod touch

posted October 6th, 2010 7:20 PM EDT by Jared Nelson in Action, First Person Shooter, News, Upcoming Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games
Today EA Mobile has announced that one of their flagship franchises, Battlefield, would be arriving in the App Store in the form of Battlefield Bad Company 2 for iPhone and iPod touch. Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a squad-based first-person shooter that was released on consoles and PCs earlier this year to some fairly positive reviews.
An interesting single player campaign was included in Battlefield Bad Company 2, but the real highlight of the game was its excellent multiplayer component that rivaled online juggernauts Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 in terms of player base. This new mobile version of Bad Company 2 will indeed include online multiplayer in some form, although details about it are scarce. Also, a single player campaign will be present consisting of 14 missions spread across five different landscapes including jungle, snow, and desert. EA has released the following screenshots of the game (click to enlarge):

Two hallmarks of the Battlefield Bad Company games have been destructible environments and driving a variety of vehicles. Based on the information in EA's press release, vehicular combat including at least tanks and choppers will be a part of the mobile experience, but it's unclear whether or not the destructible environments will make the cut. No other information about the game has been provided other than an expected November release date. A discussion about the game is taking place in our forums, and we'll of course bring you any new information on Battlefield Bad Company 2 as it becomes available.

@Malik112099 I just went to the forums of Touch Arcade and someone posted this "These developers just keep shocking me. First Dead Rising, now this! Let's just hope this is similar to the console game, since that's one game I've never actually gotten around to playing."

does that mean Dead Rising is coming to iPhone and iPod touch ? I am only asking you because you seem to know a lot about this kind stuff.

Hands-On with 'Dead Rising Mobile' from Capcom

posted October 5th, 2010 10:03 AM EDT by Jared Nelson in Action, Upcoming Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games
The other big game I got to spend some time with at Capcom's Media Tour event is Dead Rising Mobile, a portable version of the 2006 Xbox 360 game Dead Rising. In the game you'll play as photojournalist Frank West who has become trapped inside a zombie infested mall in the fictional city of Willamette. As one of the few non-zombified humans left, he'll have to fight off the attacking hordes of zombies using whatever means available to him inside the mall until military support can reach the location and offer aid. Dead Rising Mobile looks to encompass as much of this original console release as possible on the iOS platform, similar to what Capcom did with Resident Evil 4 [$1.99/Lite/HD] on iPhone last year. After playing the game I can honestly say they're off to a great start, but definitely have a ways to go.

The focus in Dead Rising Mobile is on the actual combat with zombies, and using the many different makeshift weapons spread throughout the mall to wreak havoc on them. Capcom is striving to have all of the different weapon variations from the original in the mobile version, though at this point the weapon selection I ran across seemed sparse. The number of zombies roaming around the mall also seemed in short supply, though this is something that Capcom is currently trying to improve upon. It's not clear how big the storyline element will be in Dead Rising Mobile, though you will be able to rescue other survivors during the game. Thankfully you won't need to escort them around the mall as you did in the original game, which proved a cumbersome and frustrating game mechanic. Rather you'll just be told that a survivor is in your company and must taken to another part of the mall before a timer expires.

One of the more interesting aspects to Dead Rising Mobile is the social network integration using Facebook and Twitter. If Frank is killed in the game, you can send a rescue call out over either service to show up in your friends' feeds. One of them can in turn respond to that call by entering a special code into their own version of the game, thus rescuing you and allowing you to continue on from the same point in the game. If your friend is unable to rescue you in time, or just plain chooses not to, then your character will turn into a zombie which they can seek out and kill in their own game. This is definitely a unique idea, and should reveal who your real gaming friends are, although it remains how well it will work in practice. Having my game progress hinge on a buddy's motivation (or lack thereof) to fire up his copy of the game and pull a rescue maneuver makes me nervous to say the least.

At this early stage it's hard not to be impressed seeing a game like Dead Rising running on an iPhone. The Retina Display graphics looked sharp, with a convincing mall environment and characters that are fairly detailed and animated nicely. As a huge fan of the original Dead Rising, however, the two standout features of that game were the sheer number of zombies in your vicinity at any given time and the incredible amount of interesting ways to dispatch them. At this point in time, Dead Rising Mobile just isn't quite to that level yet. The social networking aspect of being rescued is an interesting idea, but I'm not entirely sure how much that will add to the gameplay in the end. Hopefully in the next couple of months Dead Rising Mobile can evolve a bit more in the right direction. The game, which is currently being discussed in our forums, is scheduled for release during the holiday season, and we'll bring you any new information on Dead Rising Mobile as we get it.
Turn-Based Strategy fans should check out Military Madness: Neo Nectaris. It's marked down to .99 right now, it was 4.99 since Feburary.

http://appshopper.com/games/military-madness-neo-nectaris
Holy crap thank you. I love Nectaris but I just couldn't pull the trigger until now.

Everyone should jump on this. Nectaris is one of the classic strategy games, and IMHO, better than Advance Wars. It's incredibly challenging, and there's a host of tactics to employ for supporting your troops and surrounding the enemy. Assuming they didn't screw up the port, for .99 this is an absolute bargain.

I now own Nectaris on 4 platforms. At least I can still resist the Wii VC version.

I'm all about $0.99 Nectaris. I loved Military Madness back on TG-16, and have pondered buying it on XBLA or Wii's VC.
Thanks for the heads-up, spsummers!

Pretty awesome to see that developers are not afraid on bringing big time IP's into the iphone. Battlefield 2 looks awesome!. Dead rising does look like it would be a pain in the ass to control do, lol

I spent so many hours playing this on the TG-16 that I'm afraid to think about it. I purchased it for the iphone a number of months back and am almost done with the first 64 levels. A word of warning to the old school players of this game, the introduction of biospyders, biohulks, etc. will throw you for a loop at first.

NovaRift: Arena is the next OpenFeint Free Game of the Day (http://itunes.apple.com/app/novarift-arena/id361858687?mt=8).

"NovaRift: Arena is a multiplayer space combat game. Challenge players all over the world in a action packed test of skill and strategy. NovaRift is heavily physics based. The ships are composed of pieces that each have their own function and physical properties. If a piece of your ship gets blown off, the balance and handling of your ship changes. If a navigational thruster gets destroyed, you'll find it difficult to maneuver. If you lose a weapon, you'll just have to do without.

There are four ships to choose from, each with its own unique weapon layout and handling characteristics. Because the graphical look of the ship affects the ship's physical properties, form follows function. The ships are armed with different combinations of 3 weapons: plasma rifles, spreadfire cannons (giant shotguns), and proximity missiles.

Play multiplayer online, or practice offline in Arcade mode against never ending waves of enemy drones. NovaRift is OpenFeint enabled: Unlock over 40 achievements and post your highscores on the leaderboards."

Grabbed Cut The Rope, MM: Neo Nectaris and Osmos today (held off until I had a chance to check it out; looks pretty fun and definitely worth 99 cents).

Thanks again to all contributors!
