This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.
Trainyard EX is awesome.
Yes it is! Just finished the last (and most difficult) puzzle.

You finish the main puzzles in it and some really difficult bonus ones pop-up. You finish those and realise that you have been playing a lite version with 60 puzzles and the full game has 150+ puzzles!

I bought Trainyard as well when it was on sale for 1$. Will get started on that this weekend.
Man I hope I can snag that Walmart deal tomorrow for the$35 for a $50 iTunes giftcard! haha, this would be my first purchase if it's still $0.99!
15.00 off an itunes card?

About the iTunes cards from Walmart, they are only available on the 6th and 7th, right? Does anyone know when they will be active? I plan on staying up all night and gaming and a trip to Walmart at midnight would probably do me well.

Skyfire is back up in the store. Not sure if it's really worth three bucks to most people but I can watch the game highlights on NHL.com now; so it's worth it for me.

Bayo Bongo is the latest FAAD featured game (http://itunes.apple.com/app/bayo-bongo/id391999969?mt=8).

"Bayo Bongo is an engaging, colorful logic game for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad (native support) with lots of challenge, action, strategy and eye candy. Prepare to journey deep into the oceanic depths in search of five sunken treasure chests!

Tap as many same colored blocks as you can to bring the coins to the bottom of the board. Sound simple? Try to beat all the levels and pass all obstacles!"

The discounted iTunes cards aren't going to be on sale until 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning. That's what time the Amazing Electronics Event starts (http://www.walmart.com/cp/648061?povid=cat14503-env172199-module102910-lLink_sptbv).
Trainyard's a buck. I'll bite. Neat that EX has its own puzzles. Figured I'd buy it first, to support what is apparently a great app.
finished EX and it was great. The bonus tracks are tough, but I finished those as well. I have about 20 puzzles left on the full version of Trainyard and the Splitter is a real tough one to wrap our head around. The 4 star tracks are just brutal. I'm not looking forward to the 10 star ones.

Also about the wal-mart cards, I read that each store will have "at least 98 cards per store." Good luck all!

I remember seeing an iPhone commercial a couple of years back that had a shopping program where you could take a picture of a barcode and it would show you if an item is cheaper at another store nearby. Is that still around and is it any good for the kind of stuff that we like?

The itunes card registration is down nation wide at Walmart so the cards will not activate. They guy at the register took my number and saved a card for me with my name on it.

its back up and working, atleast for me, was in there at 9:20 est and they were talking about the problem, then few mins later came over intercom and said the system was finally working

Walmart System is back up in Georgetown, tx as well

I had no problem purchasing 3 of the cards. The easiest birthday gift I have ever bought for my wife.
Elderly lady in front of me purchased 3 as well.

That "limit two" $50 iTunes gift card deal at Wal-Mart is extremely YMMV. The first store I went to had all the cards back in the Electronics section and was tightly controlling the number of cards people could buy. Because of that, I drove to another Wal-Mart (luckily there are three of them only 10 minutes apart) and found a deserted store with iTunes cards at every register. I don't think the clerk was even aware of the sale because he kept checking the face of the card when he swiped it through the activator. Anyway, I could have picked up as many cards as I wanted at that second store. No one seemed to care. Unfortunately, four cards is my limit for now. Some for me, some to give away for Christmas. All in all, a pretty painless experience for a decent discount.

$50 gc deal was a bust at my local WalMart. They were all gone by the time I got there at 8:00am. I overheard the people in line talking about how they had been there since 6:00am.

Thanks for the Walmart deal info, told my Dad about it and he grabbed two cards.

-Update-
My Dad went back late in the afternoon and got another two cards (first two were for me, one for my Dad, and the last for a relative's b-day present). I guess the people in my area aren't aware of the sale... I expected these to sell out by noon.

Got two cards very easily in Mt. Prospect, IL. Just got my Ipod touch through a newegg deal, I assume they don't get much cheaper than 30% off.

  • One: My Wal-Mart practically had their $50 iTunes cards hidden.
  • Two: No sign/awareness of a sale.
  • Three: A ton of cards (I may have actually been the first to buy one... at roughly 10:20)
  • Four: I don't know... I just didn't want to end at three.

And, fans of Super Mega Worm may be interested in Death Worm (http://itunes.apple.com/app/death-worm/id396669943?mt=8), which just came out for $.99. Looks good and it's getting positive reviews so far.
There's a lite version, try that and come up with your own opinion.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/super-mega-worm-lite/id393822090?mt=8

Super Mega Worm is a cool game, but one I don't play because each game goes on and on and on and I get bored with it before it's over. Having said that, they updated it to have some sort of timed mode, so that might breath some life into for me. I haven't tried the new mode yet.
didnt realize there was a lite version. went ahead and tried it this morning. and i can definitely see how a game could wear on you after a while. the lite version is just 5 "levels" and i thought it was really fun, but at the same time i know what you mean crunch. the lite version doesnt have the time attack mode or anything like that. so im not sure, but its only 99 cents, so i might do it anyway.

The colerain ave, Cincinnati, Ohio walmarts have a bunch of cards. I picked up 4 of them! Now to check out my wish list...

Also to note, When I went there they said that they were having problems selling the cards earlier that day. Something about them not activating. I guess I was the first customer that it worked for. Glad I didn't get up early!
That "limit two" $50 iTunes gift card deal at Wal-Mart is extremely YMMV.
If they don't let you buy more then 2 cards, just buy 2 and then take 2 more up to the front registers.

Went to the one in Tamaqua, PA. They had a huge stack still left behind the register, I didn't get a good peek at how many but it was a good stack. Thanks for posting the deal, you guys rock.

I bought 2 cards and the bf bought 2, as well. There were a ton of cards behind the counter, as well as some on the floor - apparently, the ones that were on the floor had a different barcode than the ones behind the counter, resulting in the floor cards ringing up as $50 and the ones behind the counter ringing up at the $35 sale price.

Todays FAAD offerings are:

Memory Planet, a great memory game if you like those sort of games.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/memory-planet-matching-mania/id387682818?mt=8

Hive Sweeper, a twist on minesweeper with triangles instead of squares and an ant hive theme.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/hive-sweeper/id391301115?mt=8

Gun Bros is being featured again, if you have not picked this one up yet, I HIGHLY advise you dl this while it's free. This is probably the most fun action game that I've played in recent memory. It's Super Contra like in the top down view with 3d graphics and fun/challenging gameplay.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/gun-bros/id393404730?mt=8

I'm off to wind back the clocks, you all should do so too before going to sleep! Have a good night CAG!

From TouchArcade, here's a re-cap of freebies and price drops for you to spend some of that discounted iTunes money on:
Is that sale still going on today? I'm debating popping into a Wal Mart or 2 to see if I Can pick up a card
Yes, the "Amazing Event" is still going on today.

Just watch your cashiers when checking out at walmart. I bought 3 yesterday (lots available at the Renton, WA walmart) and the cashier put a card that the screen said was "invalid" into my bag. I had to question him about it before he took it out and replaced it.

Yslandia (http://itunes.apple.com/app/yslandia/id383610358?mt=8) has dropped to $.99

Well, this has been an interesting day. After a fatal mishap with my years' old Motorola Krazr this morning, I was left with a smoldering piece of yesterday's technology. Fast forward a few hours and I now find myself trying to figure out which apps to install on my new Otterbox-ensconced, 32GB iPhone 4. Yes, Christmas came early to the Dimsdale household this year. Amazingly enough, it was the wifey who actually wanted to go ahead and take the plunge ahead of schedule. She's not the most gadget-savvy missus you'll ever meet, but I think she's already quite smitten with her new iPhone, too. Good thing I picked up those discounted iTunes cards yesterday. . .

Congrats Dims, is there an free app you can download that gets you a new IPhone for Xmas? If there was I guess you would have already added it to this thread. Anyway, thanks again for all the deals you post. You definitely deserve it:applause:.

Puzzled Keiki is the latest OpenFeint Free Game of the Day (http://itunes.apple.com/app/puzzled-keiki/id344939380?mt=8).

Anyone interested in a $50 iTunes card for $45?

I got it then realized I already had all the apps for my iPad that I want for now.

11/8/10 Morning update:

Action Heroes 9-in-1 is the latest FAAD is actually a good one. They've been giving away the games individually over past months but they're finally offering the complete 9-in-1 to save space on our devices! :)

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/action-heroes-9-in-1/id330309314?mt=8

Farm It! is currently free. It's a cartoony rts like game with you as "the last hope for chicken-kind".

http://itunes.apple.com/app/farm-it/id393100008?mt=8

Ghosts'N Zombies has dropped to free! It's a pretty fun action sidescroller where you play an old man with a love of weapons hunting ghosts. Not your average shooter due to tilt and touch controls.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/ghostsn-zombies/id352315755?mt=8

That's all that was noteworthy. As always, I try to filter my posts before suggesting so you don't waste your time downloading shovelware and also to save myself time so I don't waste it posting craptastic games. ;) Now back to finding apps to spend the rest of my $50 itunes card on!
Hmmm... because I don't want to lose $15??
So you didn't get a 35.00 card this weekend? Just kind of odd, when you look at your post history, this weekend you've been trying to unload this card in various threads.

Oh well.

No I didn't. I've had it for a week or so, but never bothered entering it, and then I decided I didn't need it.

(I haven't entered two MSP codes either, but those I need since I use Zune for MP3s)

Sadly I didn't make it to Walmart this weekend. Sigh. Then again, with an iTunes card in place I'm more likely to buy stuff I don't really need, so maybe it's just as well? Oh... who am I fooling??
