Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

If it's at E3, I'm hoping the Sony Conference - assuming that it's not still under the Microsoft-only exclusivity after all these years. Tales of Festival is also coming up, so who knows :D I just really hope it's ToV Remaster and not some silly mobile game. I'm trying not to get my hopes up yet.
The ms exclusivity thing was always a baseless rumor. It was debunked numerous times but people still seem to bring it up just like troy baker supposedly was called in to voice the ps3 content rumor.

I don't think it would be at the major conferences since its a niche rpg an all. Only platform we'd probably know for sure it will be on is pc since they've been pretty consistent with that. But yeah I think people are getting ahead of themselves in even thinking it's a remaster when the only info is a locked website address.

There's zero chance Vesperia is Xbox exclusive.
Since it was previously exclusive, I would've given it an extremely small chance to be again because of Microsoft's licensing fuckery prior to the trailer release. Regardless Bandai Namco has said that it's releasing on Xbox One, PS4, Switch & Steam. Unfortunately they deleted the tweet since they probably weren't supposed to say that quite yet.

I was looking at this site https://2018.e3recap.com/ watching trailers and it has "Exclusive" over the tile for Vesperia, and I was like ughhhhh lol. This is good news, I guess it's a mistake on that website.
Here's a non-deleted tweet for re-confirmation:

Interesting fact that the new content was already dubbed in English back when it released for the PS3 even though it never was brought to the west.

EDIT: Amazon Pre-Order Pages

PS4

Xbox One

Switch

Xbox's press conference really got me excited to buy some PS4 games.

Really though, Vesperia and DMC5 look great. Bamco and Capcom killed it.

Thanks goodness Tales of Vesperia is coming out on PS4. I would have been so pissed if they made it an Xbox exclusive again, because that’s the whole reason I never got to play the game originally.

Funny how the only thing out of Xbox's conference are games I'll be playing on my PS4.

On Devil May Cry 5:

It was a bad trailer in the sense that it confused everybody. The only thing I don't like about it is the redesign of the faces. But everything else is good. It's a proper sequel to the original canon with the same great fast gameplay. This is what people have been waiting for throughout all these years.

The accent of the girl in DMC5 alone made me not want to play it.

Vesperia available on Best Buy already. XBone version is $60 for some reason, instead of $50.

PS4

Switch

Could not agree more. Bothered me so much.

Seriko definitely seems like it is From Software's answer to Ni-Oh. Like "oh you want make a soulsborne game set in feudal Japan and think you can do it 'better' than us?" That game looked great, also nice to see something from Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077.

I agree with the general opinion so far, everything they showed I can play on PS4 and will. Except for Ori, but I'll play that on PC.

So one poor choice of VA and you guys completely write off a game? Look past the one voice actor and bad faces - we're going back to the great cuhrazy gameplay and awesome story of the originals.

About Nioh and Seriko:

Personally I don't play these soulslike games because I think they are just a test of memorization and rather tedious, but my brother enjoys them and his thoughts on the reveal were basically this "I had grown tired of the fuedal japan aesthetic by the end of Nioh so this one doesn't look that interesting." I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but I can see where he's coming from. All of these soullikes have an identity crisis, imo. They're all too similar. And it's really hurting them the pace that they're churning these games out. Reminds me of Assassins Creed.

To be fair, never said I wasn't going to play it. DMC5 has been one of the most awaited games for me personally, but if there's an option to change the voice acting from English, you can bet I will be doing that.

Seriko has enough to separate it from the actual soulsborne games. It will probably still be pretty technical, but there seem to be enough added elements to it that will change the gameplay. Comparing the rate of releases to AC is a reach though.

You don't like Souls-likes. That's fine.

The people that do like souls-likes are very happy about these announcements and are looking forward to things like Sekiro and Code: Vein.

I thought Nioh was far and away the best game of 2017. It had a wealth of content and amazing amount of replayability.

Yeah, I'll be honest: When I first saw that DMC 5 trailer, at first I thought I was seeing DmC 2. But then I heard Johnny Yong's voice and saw the 'revving' motion with the sword then knew it was Nero. Game looks pretty cool, I'm excited.

Also, Vesperia Remaster for Switch is very appealing to me.
