The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

hey guys!

Bandai Namco and Experience announce PS Vita dungeon RPG Ray Gigant

Best part? They compare it to Time and Eternity! We may have a new god++ tier game:
Experience is the guys behind Demon Gaze and Operation Abyss, so I'm not too worried. I think the whole point is that it'll be a third-person view instead of a first-person view.

They're talking about sex, baby.

I really want to buy all the Atelier games, but I can't buy the 20% off PSN card due to stupid bullshit. The struggle is real

Highly recommended if you want to save a little on PSN. Likely the limit is 2.
Limit is 2 for life I think. I bought that twice last year. Both at different times. Couldn't buy any at all this time. I gave up on trying. Wasn't sure if I would get the code before midnight today, so I just added wallet funds the old fashioned way.

Oh, and you should be able to call to get it if you're having trouble checking out. Seems to have worked for people. I didn't have the patience though.

I mentioned it in the PSN thread, but it looks like Muramasa and Zero Escape were taken off this week's sale. It's not showing on the blog post anymore either.

So. Falcom announced Tokyo Xanadu for PS Vita. Looks great. Hope XSEED picks this up for localization.

http://gematsu.com/2015/02/tokyo-xanadu-confirmed-ps-vita

Falcom’s upcoming action RPG Tokyo Xanadu is a PS Vita title, the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation reveals.

The game is set in the fictional “Morimiya City” located in the Tama district on the outskirts of Tokyo. The protagonists attend Morimiya Academy and get caught up in an otherworldly incident, and with it, a major conspiracy.

Dengeki PlayStation details the first two characters:

Kou Tokisaka (Protagonist) – A 17 year-old second year high school student. Though brusque in his mannerisms, he’s not unfriendly towards others and is an archetypal modern day student all around. He uses a sword whip and specializes in mid-range attacks.
Asuka Hiragi – Kou’s classmate. She has an attractive face and figure, quick reflexes, gets excellent grades, and is class president. Though on the outside, she looks like a typical heroine… She wields a one-handed sword and specializes in close combat.
During the game’s modern parts, players will explore areas like the school and shopping district to trigger events before heading to the spirit world to progress the story. During spirit world parts, players will explore labyrinth-like areas and fight against enemies using weapons known as “Soul Devices.”

On February 26, Falcom will release a Tokyo Xanadu custom theme for PS Vita users to download.

Tokyo Xanadu is due out in Japan later this year.

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Update 8:00 a.m.: New details have come in from Weekly Famitsu’s via Sokuho@Hokanko.

First, more character and world details:

When the protagonist sees a new transfer student getting into a fight with some delinquent students, he goes over to help them. But at that point, he’s met with a strange vision of a girl retrieving a shining sword.
Asuka is a returning student from overseas. She’s secretly investigating incidents related to the spirit world on orders from an organization that possess the Soul Devices.
The spirit world isn’t normally detectable to normal people. The protagonists are able to do so after a certain catalyst is triggered.
The game is set in a slightly different rendition of Tokyo from the real thing, thus the kanji for ‘kyo’ being different.
Next, tidbits from an interview with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo:

We’ve acquired a lot of know-how in developing the Ys and Trails games, but we wanted to try out a different field.
So far there’s been Zwei!! and Nayuta no Kiseki, but we wanted to tackle a different title.
The younger staff are taking the initiative of project planning and development.
While the entire staff hasn’t changed, the young members are putting work into the costumes and setting.
The game is a modern era/other world RPG where players will go on an adventure to solve mysteries and incidents.
Action parts have a free-control camera.
We also have jump actions.
We’re considering things like targeting systems to make the game easier to play.
The foundation of the game is made up of modern day adventure parts and other world action parts.
They’re proactively designing the game such that players are better able to enjoy the story.
Falcom’s attention to detail on town NPCs (e.g.: their backstory, movement patterns, etc.) remains present.
We have a number of main characters, more so than the Ys series’ six characters.
We have a large number of modern day characters. People that enjoy the teenage character style will take kindly to them.
Tachikawa is the main setting in Morimiya City. It’s a town made up of a variety of spots in the Tama district on the outskirts of Tokyo.
The city of Tachikawa is coordinating with the development team on events and merchandise.
Launch is scheduled for after summer 2015. The main scenario is almost done and we’re currently toning up the action parts. I have no doubt we’ll release it by the end of the year.
The voice cast will be announced before long.
Production is progressing smoothly.

When I was looking it wasn't available for shipping at all. Amazon, BBY, and gamestop. I would have had no problems ordering it if I could have lol. Of course it would show up less than 24hrs after I cave for digital :wall:
It was out of stock for most of the week at best buy. I was checking everyday for shipping until it finally was back in Stock around like Friday.

Why is Monster Hunter 4 listed as like $45-$50 new everywhere? I got my sealed copy from Best Buy for $26. Think I might sell it and wait for price to come down.

Anybody else's Firefly Diary still 'Processing' when they check their NIS order page? *nervous chuckle*
Based on several reports of people receiving their CEs despite the order page still showing "Processing", that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I still haven't received my standard edition, but since my area (northern Maryland) has had snow issues, I expected slower shipping.

I feel like hachiman would look even more uncaring & walk home before he gets swept into an jrpg game.

Came across this picture which could help those who are unsure which atelier games to get.
It had me until it said dusk for combat. no the mana khemia duology would be the one to play for combat. Also why no mention of iris trilogy or the single annie title?

also lol at escha spoiling the ending of ayesha. like there was anything to spoil unless there is a true ending I never got that's super important. Like keith reveals he is actually a woman and was some ancient deity and not a douche chain smoker homeless guy and was responsible for all the evils in the world and you have to kill him or he'll continue kidnapping people while disguised as a gas station attendant.

All content in this is fictitious and any, references to other literature, current events or historical , likeness to persons living, dead, or of fictional nature is purely coincidental. Closed course do not attempt. Void where prohibited.

So if I was going to buy one of the following, based on if it's a solid game AND based on which one is more likely to go on sale cheaper in the next 3-6 months:

Which do I get:  tales of Hearts R or Sword Art Online?

I'm guessing ToH:R will go on sale cheaper in the next 3-6 months. It has less of a discount this time around, and other Tales games have had steep discounts. But that's just speculation.

Really depends, haven't played SAO yet but Hearts R was pretty damn fun. Got about 40 hours out of it. If you like a kind of typical JRPG with a fun story and good combat, get that. They'll likely have similar prices for some time to come

I'd get SAO since the NA version is sold on the PSNonly and $23.xx is not a bad price.
Also, a physical copy of ToHR is $30 new on both GS and in the Bandai Namco shop (w/ free Prime shipping)

I got my copy of HTOL#NIQ on Monday as well without any email about it shipping.

So question about the Atelier Series (Yes it's been asked too much but mines a little different). So I probably plan on picking all up this sale.

My question is, would it be stupid to start playing Rorona+ (up until the new game content where totori and meruru characters come in), stop there, play totori and then meruru and finally come back to Rorona extra content?

Or just forget all that nonsense and play them in chronological order. Sorry if this question is a bit repetitive but it's slightly different I would suppose

I hope they have the original versions of all the remix songs. Some P3 tracks would be great too, but looking at this list, I'm guessing it will be DLC only =/

Yes I did see this chart already when posted, but my question is more on the lines of If I played up until the extra part of Rorona and came back after I finished the other 2 games, would that be dumb?

I already know I will start in chronological order, just Should I just play Rorona to the end or stop before the extra content and come back after?

You might try it out and be able to answer those types of questions in the future. If the part you're talking about is a DLC part or something added to the plus game, then I sya go for it. It's all about what makes your gaming experience the most fun.

Only PS4. I'm beginning to think Sony is forcing Japanese developers to localize their games exclusively for Next-Gen.
While this is bad for those who have yet to upgrade to PS4, that version is supposedly far better than the PS3 version by running at 60fps and having many more enemies on screen at once.

On a related note, Bandai-Namco apparently canceled Godzilla on PS3 for us, as I can't find a page for it anywhere. Only the PS4 version remains.
