Light gun discussion thread - Game Deals Inside!

hey punqsux, I'm curious as to how many gun controllers you have. do you have that one you provided a link for? I may have to pick one up to play those PSone titles and I'd like to know if its definately a good one. Oh and any insight on a lightgun with a pedal? Or on the PS2 TCs, can you do the same thing as in the PSone and just step on the controller in the second port?

right now all i have is a guncon 2, lol (i know i cant even play the games i bought today =op )

but as soon as i get some money im gunna pick up 2 of those guns from the link provided, because they sound sweet, so the better be good =op

ive seen guns with pedals but i never used them, i dont like alot of wires everywhere.

for the ps2 time crisis games, there is a d-pad on the back of the gun and you hold up on it to look out and shoot, it works REALLY well.

Do those PS1 games generally have 2-player support?

And just to make sure I understood right -- does that gun from the E-star link work on ALL gun games for PS1 and PS2?

the gun from that link CLAIMS to work on all of the diffrent types of games, however never having used it i cant promise anything.

for TimeCrisis3, you hold on to any button on the guncon (a, b, c, d-pad) to look out. Not sure about TC2 since I've never played it (don't have it also :p )

Cool.... lol, I'll probably buy all those games you mentioned and then pick up a gun later. Those deals look too sweet to pass up! I'd rather get 'em while I still can, and just do some gun research later.

Meanwhile I have my Dreamcast guns and the system's amazing selection of 4 gun games to tide me over.

Hey, EBgames has 2 different links for Die Hard Trilogy... is the $3.99 one DHT 2 and they just screwed up the picture/description?

If you've not played Elemental Gearbolt , it's easily the BEST lightgun game for the PS1 - not to mention insanely difficult towards the end.

Also, out of curiosity - I know my original Guncon works on my PS2 Vampire Night and Time Crisis 3, but I've heard it won't work with some of the ps2 titles - anyone know about Ninja Assault?

Ok, what do you guys make of this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21188&item=8122480227&rd=1
This auction is for a "PS2 Cyber Gun." It makes a point to emphasize that it works on ALL PlayStation 1 and 2 gun games. Read further and you see that the gun has "Normal," "Guncon," and "Guncon 2" modes. And you'll notice that the pic shows a video jack, a USB cable, and a nomal PS controller cable. I'm guessing the only reason it would have all three of those is that it really does support all three types of gun games. Whaddaya think? It comes to $21 shipped which seems pretty cool (plus I wasn't crazy about that bright pink one at Estarland :p ).

well I prefer getting the official ones (unless I know for sure that they'll work...) and the fact that I hate ebay.
Can't really see the d-pad and the pic doesn't show the different outlets actually being connected with the guncon, so be careful about that and hope you get the gun you wanted.

end game wouldnt be such a horrible gun game if it didnt litterally load for 30 seconds between each SECTION of an area.

example:

You;re shooting guys in your apartment and dive out the window or something to the street...Loading... you fight guys in the street then run to the train station .... Loading.... you fight through the train station to the train..... Loading.... WTF did they never hear of streaming data??

It's a shame since the graphics arnt half bad and they have the bonus cartoony shooter game (whichhas the same crappy loading issues) but if you can stand it go ahead and buy it just dont pay more than 10 bucks for it.

Hmm..probably will get it just for sake of having the PS2 Guncon games. Only $7.99 then after PPLAY15 and SAVER a few cents over $7. I already ordered Dino Stalker at 9.99.

I don't even have a GunCon2 yet, after I got in on the RE: Dead Aim for $5 it got me looking into the GunCon craze. I'm planning to order one of those preplayed TC3s from EB after I get paid tomorrow. Ninja Assault and TC2 for just the game only are pretty cheap as well. Sucks that Vampire Night is $29.99. What should I do to get a second Guncon2..get a preplayed TC2 or wait for CrisisZone?

thats not a fair description. yes there is a bit of load times, but id say they're closer to 10 seconds.

VERY short cinema

its a decent game, i dig it, its just a time crisis ripoff but if youre gunna rip off a game, at least rip off the best ^^
Anyone have Endgame? Read some pretty horrible reviews but the price may make it worth while.
For some reason light gun game reviews (only ones I have read have been for the ps2), are usually horrible especially from the "big" review sites. I remember passing up ninja assault a bunch of times because pretty much every review said it sucked, but that game is great. Apparently a lot of people don't know what an arcade gun game is supposed to be like and thus rate it badly.

You're right Scrubking, Ninja Assualt is a pretty decent game. I played it in the arcades and on the PS2. What the reviewers don't like about it is that they think ninja with guns is just too farfetched to believe.

ive been considering starting a light gun gamer's website recently...but im not sure how that would go since its a very small niche in gaming

I say go for it - never know until you try. Just look at this site: it started small and now it is the number one search result on google.

I, for one, would be happy to be a part of your site.

I'd vote Crisis Zone. And when EB starts selling them used, use AFF25 and snag a "used" copy cheap. When I did that with TC3, the stuff was basically new. I'm guessing that not a lot of people sell back a full GunCon set to EB, and it's better for them to just eat the $5 (AFF25 not withstanding) by selling it "used".

Punq - sign me up for your Guncon website. Perhaps we can start the petition to bring over the Gunvari collection.

Meh Gunvari would be nice, but i already have PB 1 & 2. What I want is North American versions of most of the PAL light gun games. I may be worng for asking, but is there a way to play PAL games without modding a PS2?

You're right 30 seconds is a bit of an over estimation. I suppose if the cinemas were a little longer I could stand the constant loading, but the way it's set up the constant loading breaks the flow and just takes you out of the game. But as I said thats my only real problem with it, out side of that I'd say it was an okay title to own if you;re really into the gun game genre.

Punq I say go for a Light Gun website. Its about time someone start a place for the fanbase to gather and grow. Going indepth about arcade/console history..i.e. from Duck Hunt to Silent Scope. Theres so many DDR, Beatmania, and etc music game fan sites, time for some light gun love.

Try to look at the bright side, at least you get to rest your arm a lot so you don't get tired of holding the gun for so long :D

Yea I'm going to order a used TC3 after I get deposit my check tomorrow. Luckily theres quite a few left last time I checked. Question though..I can just use a different email and open another account under the same name correct? Cause my account I have now used up all the AFF25s it can back when they still had free shipping.

That code is limited?!?! I didn't know that.... how many times are you allowed to use it?

Not sure how many times you can use it. But it will say you have used the maximum allowed AFF25 or something. I used it quite a lot cause I got a bunch of GBA and PS2 games and I kept doing it in single orders. Using another email worked fine though. Just did it now.

if you order more than one game, and the total before coupons is over $20.00 use the AFF25 code as it will save you more money even tho you still pay the $2 shipping.

dead aim is like all resident evil games, in third person when walkin, opening doors, and pickin items. but when you encounter an enemy, you can use the guncon and enter 1st person and shoot them. I heard you are given limited bullets and there are puzzles as well. Nonetheless I wanna try this game out, would be fun to play in the dark and shoot the zombies in the head :D

P.S.
I heard people saying the game is bad because it's too short but nearly all guncon games are short.
Here are some movies of Dead Aim, decide if it's good or not yourself: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/residentevildeadaim/media.html

I was lucky enough to snag a $5 Dead Aim from BB online. It does feel like any RE game with little puzzles..though ts mostly finding keys/switches to open doors to the next section. I wouldn't say the bullets are limited though cause every save point room has 6 boxes bullets that refreshes when you re-enter the room. Certainly a fun experience. I only played an hour or so into the game cause I wanna play the rest through with a Guncon2.

But yea I'm sorta pissed that I ordered Endgame and Dino Stalker last week and now they're having a B2G1 sale. Too late to cancel and I could have got something for free. Oh well, I'll probably get use the sale to complete my Guncon collection.
I would but unfortunately I've always sucked at coming up with names. I mean just look at how unoriginal my screen name is.
yeah, i dont want any underscores

Hey are any of those hunting games lightgun compatible? Like those ones where you hunt deers or bears or whatever. I've seen a couple at arcades, wondering if maybe those couple hunting games I always see lying around at BB can use a lightgun. Just a thought...

2 Things...

First - Does anyone know if an original Guncon will work with Ninja Assault? I know it will with Time Crisis 2 and Vampire Night - but I've had no experience with any other ps2 titles.

Second - import gungame that nobody has mentioned - Rescue Shot Bubido. This is a ps1 Guncon game that Namco put out. Pretty strange actually - a rabbit that looks kinda like Doraemon hops through stages while you protect him by shooting falling objects and capping odd looking foes while shooting magic mushroom powerups etc. I guess it's sort of story driven, but I know absolutely 0 Japanese. However, it's not required to get the gist of what you need to do - like all gun games - SHOOT EVERYTHING!
