Been lurking forever and finally have something to contribute. For those of you that were burned by Best Buy's drop in trade-in values and have a Microcenter near you, here's a possible alternative. Microcenter has some trade in values advertised on their website and in the new sales paper. Notice the trade in value for Crysis 2. I've never personally traded there so if anyone has please post your experiences.

http://www.microcenter.com/storefronts/gaming/used.html

YMMV, as some stores do not have trade-in capabilities.
Stores without trade-ins: 'Twin Cities/St. Louis Park, MN', 'Beltway/Rockville, MD' [add more when discovered]

Current trade in values as of 11/29/11 from the CAG community (Thanks fortunado for compiling and editing list)

(11/29/11) - Added some new values today. I overheard someone say that all the games MC buys get shipped off to their buyer and then redistributed among the stores that lack certain titles. At my store they will take one copy per game, per console, per day, per person. So it may be possible to just spread trades of duplicate games out over the course of a few weeks.

(4/1/12) - RAGE Anarchy Edition not being accepted at some stores due to UPC being different from what they allow (even though it is the "better" version). YMMV on this if the employee will override.

To keep the wiki current, try to enter the date you obtained the value.

Just got one at GameStop for $10, going to play it for a few hours tonight and tomorrow then trade it in to MicroCenter thursday. $15 profit in credit for essentally renting a game...I'll buy that for a dollar...or $10 apparently.
Not me anymore, I haven't traded in for the last 3 months I believe. I tried to trade 2 in on Sunday (at bestbuy) but their system was down.
Yeaah pretty whack. But yeah, wait were you banned from Best Buy trading?

I don't know . Will find out this weekend when I trade in a few games to buy revelation and maybe the run.

Got my hopes up until I noticed they don't take trade ins at the Chicagoland stores. Any idea why that is?

Guess I'll have to slowly keep flipping my way to a vita through gs

now let's stop bumping this thread to discourage anybody overdoing it and killing the golden goose. :D

I have a sinking feeling that my trades are going to get shot down this afternoon. Nothing ever seems to go my way with these sorts of things.

Let me know how those trades go, I live in FW but would make the drive since I have family in Dallas I can visit.

I just traded in both console versions of MvC3 without any issues at the Dallas location a few hours ago. And yes, I got rejected for the Anarchy edition as well a few weeks ago!

RedFox, you should trade in ASAP because the TIV might change tomorrow as others have stated.
The gaming department employee called in so I will NOT be trading in games today.
The one that left 30 - 40 mins early or the one closing? When I got there, the former just left & fortunately, a manager at another department use to work in the video game department so he came over showed another employee how to do trade-in's so you should be good to go if you go tonight.

Dammit all to hell! That's BS! I was there around 6 and I had to go to the customer service desk for help. Then I followed another employee to the other side of the store where he called someone then told me to come back tomorrow because the gaming department employee called in and there was no one else that could help me. Either I was misinformed or they just didn't care enough to find someone that COULD help me. I guess I'll just go back tomorrow because I'm home now. Did you trade anything in?

This is discouraging, I've been waiting all week to go and the day I finally go I get the run around. I'm already super annoyed and if I find out that the TIV has dropped when I finally get to go I'll be pissed. Maybe I can try and request that they give me todays TIV since I was told to come back tomorrow since the gaming department employee "called in". :headache:

just got back from sc store. same guy that did my trade in before- super friendly. went for silent hill hd, saw that they had mgs:hd so i got that instead.
She said that everyone that had recently come in to trade games had tried to trade in RAGE. She said she wanted to take it and knew it was the better version but that she couldn't because of the UPC being different. Usually the girl with the red hair will accept one-off UPC games like that but this was the first time I traded in with the shorter girl. They're both really nice; I've never had a problem trading in there except when their machine was offline a few times in December...
Unless there's more than one red hair girl, she was the one that denied the Anarchy edition for me a few weeks ago.
Anyone knows if they accept games without original artwork, case and manuals?
Two different employees (seperate times) at the Dallas/Plano location both said they require original artwork, case & manual. If that was the case then I would've traded in the Anarchy Edition without the original artwork since the additional stuff in that version's on a piece of paper (DLC code). It doesn't say Anarchy Edition on the blu-ray disc.

I was there around 4:45pm. Usually when I go in, I go straight to the gaming depart. & if there's no one there then I'll just go into the s/w depart. & ask one of the employees if they can get someone to help me in the video game depart. I did that today as usual but one of the managers came by & said the employee that was suppose to be working left early b/c she wasn't feeling well & the other employee replacing her won't be in for another 30-mins. Then he remembered another manager use to work in the video game depart. so he called that guy over & he showed an employee from the s/w dept. how to accept trade-in's. So yeah, I got lucky otherwise I would've waited for nothing since she called in like you said.

I traded in both console versions of MvC3 for fiddy doll-hairs. Whenever you trade something in (assuming you didn't call earlier in the day to verify; I rarely get someone picking up everytime I call that dept.), ask them what the trade-in value's worth BEFORE they open your sealed game(s) otherwise, you can't return it at wherever you bought it originally. That was the case for me with Rage: Anarchy Edition. Meh, it only cost $5 after the BB gamer mag coupon so not really a big deal since I also had other games to trade-in from my own personal collection.

Yeah, I'd be annoyed too if I were you & that happens tomorrow. Highly doubt they'll be able to give you the previous days TIV since they probably won't know/remember what it was worth previously unless they actually did work that shift/day. Earlier, I was advising you to go trade-in ASAP b/c of this happened:

Thanks man! You've been very helpful. So I can take in the sealed copies of the games and verify TIV before I open them? Will they make me open them or will they just take them and do it themselves? I work until 5 and probably won't get there until around 6 again so the anticipation is going to kill me over the next 12 hours haha!

My God you need your hand held don't you?

Since when has it been a standard to trade in sealed games anywhere? It's not the regs that I worry about but the other general cags that potentially ruin trade in places for us. If you took some time to read this thread all of your questions would have beeh addressed. smh.

sign on the counter at sc store says no brink and no sealed games, even if ur gonna open them on the spot. so....don't do sealed games, that just makes you look like a thief.

A) I don't trade/flip often if at all
B) I HAVE traded a sealed game once before
C) There is no "industry standard" for trade ins
D) I have read much of this thread and not everyone has had the same experience trading at MicroCenter or even other places that take trades.
E) Not everyone can be as smart as you and simply know everything without having to ask questions first.

In the Dallas location, 1PM on a weekday is a good time to do trades. seems the rep goes to lunch 1130-1230. On Saturdays, when I came in at 5 the rep wasn't around then I returned at 7 and found the rep.

A) read my previous post.
B) don't ruin it for the tx cags that have been already trading in there.
C) if you have questions specific to the tx store, try pm'ing someone who trades in there.
D)instead of reading "much" of the thread, read all of it.
E)again, NO sealed games.
F)again, ask a tx cag who trades in there via pm.

btw, industry standard for trade ins is NO SEALED GAMES, even if u got lucky once before. dont fuck it up for everyone else. and if u don't wanna risk wasting money on buying a game to flip and having it lose its value, then you probably shouldn't be flipping.

Well, i understand you're nervous about trading in, but there's only so much you can ask here. The rest you'll have to wait til you get there. Even the same store, same employee sometimes will give different trade-in experience.

I do think there is a standard for trading in, at least an unspoken standard. That's no sealed games aka "no new game" sign that Microcenter has up. if you're worried, you can always go in without the game first and ask them to check the price before opening the wrapper.
Not everyone can be as smart as you and simply know everything without having to ask questions first.
There is not a single thing you've asked that hasn't been answered 100 times in this thread already. CAG is about helping people, not holding people's hands as they attempt to do something that any mouth-breather can do after spending a few minutes reading a thread.

If this is freaking you out so much that you can't do it without having everyone reassure you of the things that we've already reassured 100s of people about, then just don't do trade ins, man. It's not like it's some huge cash cow of money, it's just a fun thing to do sometimes and if it's going to stress you out: don't do it!

seriously, its as easy of asking what the price is, then saying 'thanks, i'll go to my car and get the game'. (you then open it in the car and remove all stickers, dlcs, etc) and come back and complete the trade. That wont piss off the csr and you for not getting the trade accepted.

Sorry to hear that! I hope that wasn't the only game you attempted to trade in b/c from Lewisville to there is kinda far (well, for me it is). Next time, just call the same day to verify the TIV's so that way they'll be able to tell you if they will or will not accept the trade-in(s).

hey thinking about taking a trip to Madison Heights, MI store today

how do they look at taking a stack of games ? i got a list and want to get a 3ds

When people trade stuff in, please post games and the values so everyone else can know if high value games have dropped.

Thanks:)

it'd be smarter not to repeat tivs and instead just post values IF a game drops.

I approve of this idea.

The following 360 games:

Dark Messiah, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Far Cry 2, Star Wars Force Unleashed 1, and Mercenaries 2

All fell between $1.50-5.00. Sorry for the loose estimates but I honestly can't remember the values on them, just think of them as padding if your trading in a bunch of games. I just brought them in to see if any of them fetched a decent value.

I'd actually prefer people post all the TiVs they have so I can edit the wiki with up to date values.

Or we could just edit the wiki ourselves. Then add any new games to the wiki and mention it in a new post.

I work at Micro Center. We usually advertise that we will BEAT Gamestop for game buyback prices. I have also found our used games are always much better priced. The only problem is that we send games we buy back to the Columbus warehouse, where it is then sorted and sent back out to stores. This causes smaller less gamer oriented stores like ours in Sharonville to see very few used games, especially the good ones.

Just an FYI for everyone. For building a computer, we BEAT Newegg on processor prices, usually pretty good, and if you bring up that something is better priced on Newegg (in terms of building) we will usually match it.

As far as computer sales goes, which I am in. Management rides us fairly hard to sell Antivirus, including in the Mac Department, although I always tell people its more of a peace-of-mind issue or if they want to protect Windows computers so they are not a carrier.

They could do that but seeing the edits history, only a handful of people do.
