Mirror's Edge - Out November 11 - Demo Out Now!
I don't know, from the demo I found the gun combat to be kind of clunky myself. It was much easier to just disarm someone or take them out with a jump kick to the head. And since combat isn't even encouraged most of the time, I imagine this might be pretty easy to do. I'm personally more worried about going through the entire game without getting shot, as one stray bullet could ruin your whole run.
Not sure if you're referring to the trophy (it's only one level where you have to avoid getting shot) but yeah, not using a gun through the whole game may not be that tough after all.

Haha, I completely misread the trophy. I thought it was go though the entire game without getting shot, but it is just for one chapter. That should be pretty easy as well, then.

As for the length, I hear it's around 10-12 hours to beat the main story, which isn't that bad. Add to that speed runs and time trials and I think it's totally worth it.

Well at least you don't have to spend 10-12 hours trying to dodge each and every bullet now. \\:D/

Haha, imagine what a PITA that would be x_X

Yeah I'll definately get this on PS3 sometime after Christmas once some used copies come in and Gamestop has either a 20-25% off coupon off used or a buy 2 get 1 free on used games since it will have trophies at launch and exclusive DLC (which I may or may not get but it's nice it will be an option.)

Just can't bring myself to pay full price for a game that's about 10-12 hours with no multiplayer. Plus there's my whole EA ban thing on buying new EA produced/published products going also.

looks like they're from denmark.

blah... i'm still gonna put in an order. :bouncy:

Someone that reviewed the "game" but was actually just rewiewing the demo.
EA is awesome now though, they used to be dicks.
I agree. I'm actually fully willing to support them now compared to before (at least over the last year). They've done an excellent job making the PS3/360 versions of games the same and they've been releasing lots of new stuff. Publishers I'm more so upset with these days are Activision and sometimes Ubi Soft.
I got the bag today. Its freaking big :)

Well worth a pre order.
I hate the terminology "pics or it didn't happen", but by any chance can you snap a couple of photos for our benefit? I'm honestly surprised that Gamestop isn't adding a shipping surcharge for those that preordered from the site. It's got to be more expensive for them to ship than the MGS4 LE.

Did anybody get the GS preorder call for this yesterday? I'm going to give them a call when they open in a few hours, but I'm wondering if I should expect them to have it today.

My store told me yesterday that it'd be in Wednesday. :(

I'm gonna call again to make sure.

Where's my bag!

Yes the story is laughable and the game is super short.
But it's the time trial mode that's key here.
You have to think of this game, almost as a racer in the aspect that the real goal is to refine your skills to make each "course" smoother and faster.

I picked up my bag last night, but they told me the game doesn't ship until today (11/11) and wouldn't be in till Wednesday afternoon.

IGN review. 7.4 for PS3, 7.3 for 360
Gamespot. 7.0

I think if you love the demo, you'll love the game.
If you didn't, probably not worth a purchase for if maybe just a rental.

GS wouldn't give me my bag today even though they had it.

Got my copy today through Gamestop.com.

The bag is indeed friggin' huge. Think they'll give me shit at Gamestop B&M if I return the game unopened without the pre-order bonus? I don't want to keep the game simply due to its shortness and lack of multi.

Dammit, played the demo and loved what I played, amazingly fresh atmosphere, fluid controls, and some FPP gameplay that doesn't feel awkward like it did in the Half Life games. THEN the reviews come around, and they don't really share the enthusiasm.

I'm not saying review sites are always right. This could be the best game ever, but at 60 dollars I'd better be completely sold.

I'll wait for impressions from CAGs. Part of me really thinks I'll love this, but even if it is the most awesome game I've played I don't want to play this game for 6 hours and never pick it up again after paying 60 dollars. Maybe I should just wait it out...

The bag is pretty nifty! The logo on the front makes it's all the better.

One of the best (and most useful!) pre-order swag to date :D
Anyone at the point of wanting to throw your controller at something yet?
The end of the "Jacknife" level is driving me nuts. I think I died 20 times AFTER climbing out of the damn drainage hole. Being in an enclosed area, with cops firiing at you immediately, there's no time to survey the area, so I found myself running in circles trying to figure out where to go. Pressing circle doesn't really help because it only shows you your destination. Not exactly how you're supposed to get there. I finally just gave up and decided to take a break. It's probably something super simple and obvious that I'm missing, but I just couldn't bear to get shot one more time.

So I put the game in tonight, and it's appearing in black and white?? None of the other discs I've put in in the last day or two (Valkryia Chronicles, LBP, FIFA 09, and a couple BR movies) are doing anything like this. What the hell is up with this? I haven't changed any settings any time recently.

Yeah, That part was frustrating for a little bit. Without giving anything away, just isolate your enemies.

Anyone else have a problem in chapter 6 when you're in the small room with the yellow walls and the game freezes up? It's happened to me like 3 times. Then by chance once it just happened to stutter but move on so I got past the "glitch" I'm just curious has anyone else had this problem?

I gotta say, this game really fights itself when it comes to realizing it's intended design.

When a few battle-optional cops are around and your path is fairly clear, the game is intense, beautiful and extremely fun to play. But, at times, repeated deaths and the sometimes difficult disarm moves sadly get in the way of the action, the "flow."

I can deal with the elevators, though one might ask why a parkour specialist is taking an elevator instead of the stairs, but I did run into one mid-level, mid-running, Half-Life style loading time. Again, only once, mind you, and I pray that's the only time I'll experience it, but, man, talk about an immersion killer.

I certainly don't regret the purchase, and I'm still having fun, but I feel that DICE could have either streamlined some of the levels a bit, permanently painted the runner-vision objects red instead of SLOWLY fading them into view (ARGGGGH), or at the very least, attempted to speed up the checkpoint loading (ala Prince of Persia, about 1 second).

I think that's a pretty fair assessment. The only thing I'd say in defense of Mirror's Edge is that it really is the first of its kind in terms of gameplay. It's a first person, action-puzzle-platformer. As much as I hate getting gunned down while running around trying to figure out where to go, it is kind of puzzle-like. Once you learn what you're supposed to do, I think it's pretty understandable how it could be done quickly. I just think most of us aren't used to solving puzzles while we're being shot at.

This game is almost like a more intense, first person, Tomb Raider. But it's like Dice thought "Let's not only have them leaping from point to point, and climbing up ladders and pipes. Let's have a helicopter shoot at them while they do it!!!" I've died a ton, but the game definitely isn't the most frustrating I've played. And I don't think the checkpoints are that far apart. There have been a few moments when I've thought "all the way back here???", but really not that many. And I feel like I'm progressing through the game fine on the normal difficulty. Of course certain aspects of gameplay could be improved upon, but overall, I'm enjoying the experience.

EDIT - Another thing I like about the game is that you really can play it two different ways. You can try to speed through the levels, and literally run away from the bullets. Or you can be more tactical and take cover behind places where the helicopters can't get to you and the cops have trouble finding you. I think this could be what's annoying people; trying to play the whole game one way, when you really need a balance of both.

For sure. I'll be recommending it to people in search of something new. You're definitely right about the tactical vs. speed aspect, it does seem to have been designed in such a manner. Unfortunately the speed aspect is the only part of the game DICE has been pushing so you go into it expecting to be running full-bore all the time.

It's parkour (K'aen't Spell) That's what it's tryging to be, first movie off the top of my head is district B13 {american title} Mirror's edge will be as sick as that, if people support it, they'll make more and better versions of it.

They went out on a limb making this, perfect or great, ...no! nice, original and new, ...yes!!!

I'm drunk, F U, F U, You're cool ( granny, CAG, and Mirror's) I'm out

I was looking forward to this game with it being a different experience and all, but unfortunately I don't think it presents my kind of "challenge" since I've been getting really frustrated playing the game overall. For example, in Fallout 3 I enjoy the challenge of trying to take out a group of say super mutants while trying to avoid taking too much damage, and don't mind loading from a quick save more than a few times until I get it right. In Mirror's Edge I keep getting frustrated at almost every turn. It's like the overall mechanics just aren't clicking with me, even though the demo was fun to play through a few times. I'm currently on chapter 3 and debating whether or not it's worth my time to continue playing.

Beat the game earlier today after around five hours. I picked up 16 of the 30 bags on my first play through and snagged another three after about ten minutes on a level. The story is horribly cliche (i.e.
half of the 'good' guys are bad and the 'bad' guys are really good
, though there's so little character development that's even a stretch to say).

The game play s like a first person Prince of Persia though, which is more than awesome. Time to pay through on hard!

Also, beating the game without using a gun wasn't really difficult.
How much extra play do you think the time trials will add?
Depends on how involved you are in time runs. I haven't gotten any further into them than I did with the demo, but I plan to once I've gathered all of the bags.

Yeah, There have been a bunch of people saying that the game freezes right there. If you do have any problems again, just disconnect from the PSN network. I'm sure we will get a patch pretty soon to fix it.

Well, I found this game to be dissapointing in almost every way possible. First of all length. I don't think I was doing anything above and beyond a normal player's skill (especially since I died a LOT) but four and a half hours?! The combat was terrible and there were very few parts that felt like the pacing of the demo, by which I mean everything was to stop and go to ever feel like you were moving fast. Some may enjoy the fact that almost every room is a puzzle in which you need to stop and look around for the next ledge every time you reach a new one, but I did not at all.

Well, this is only neccessary the FIRST time you play it. Most puzzle games have little replay value. Once you know the puzzle, you know the game. But with this game, that's kind of the whole point. Ironically, that even turns the game's relative short length into a positive because you shouldn't mind playing through it again. Really, your second play through should be better than your first.
