----------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
USPS Media Mail

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
Yes. If you’re worried about your package, definitely take advantage of these shipping options. You’ll just have to pay a little extra to ship your games. NOTE: There have been cases where the post office doesn’t allow adding these options on prepaid shipping labels, but try anyway or go to a different post office.

I don't trust Media Mail. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
43 Broad st. C403
Hudson, MA 01749

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit in 3 to 5 business days, however.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the trade-in deal?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however. On the other hand, older gen games, such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 10 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that it might still raise red flags. No one has reported attempting this so we do not know for sure. 2 to 3 copies of a game should be okay, but more than that is pushing it. Also, keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always edit or cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Does the ECA discount stack with the trade-in deal coupon?
Yes.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

You know, I think I'll put that in the OP again since the coupon doesn't expire for a while. I don't know why I removed it in the first place.
Last week I mailed two packages with delivery confirmation on each. I mailed the two boxes at the same time, but they've only delivered one of them. I got the giftcard for that one already and the other one hasn't even been delivered yet (according to USPS.com and amazon). Does this normally happen with media mail? it makes no sense. I'm afraid the box is lost somewhere on some delivery truck.
Yep... Media Mail has the lowest priority, so your 1st package might fit in a truck, and the 2nd package will ship whenever there is a space on the next truck.

Wait, what does "postmarked" mean? I just sent my package in to the post office with the prepaid slip, I don't need to give Amazon a DC number or something do I?

@lLTDan, GameStaq also charges $2.25 for shipping and a $2 transaction fee.
Wait, what does "postmarked" mean? I just sent my package in to the post office with the prepaid slip, I don't need to give Amazon a DC number or something do I?
Postmarked means the day you gave it to the post office. So if you make a trade and the last day was july 25th to send it in, you have to give it to your post office to mail out by july 25th at the latest for it to be "post marked" the 25th.

Still, though, do they actually mark it on the box anywhere if you just drop it off? With the prepaid mailer I'm not so sure they do that. On the other hand, then it probably doesn't matter to the people accepting the games. Of all the problems we've seen people have I don't rememeber anyone getting them rejected for being sent too late. They actually say in the trade-in info that they may accept your games at the new lower values if they are too late! That would suck.

Of course if you buy DC they then add an 80 cent postage label to the package which does have the date on it. I've been doing this for anything over $30 anyway so I'll have today's date on the one I send in later (today being the last possible day). I think I'll send in tomorrow's too just to save the hassle of going there twice. I'll make sure to get DC on both to see if they arrive together or completely independently like SonictheHedgehog1337's.

I'm curious, where is Amazon selling the used games that are traded in? Or which third party is selling these games? Does anyone know?
I'm curious, where is Amazon selling the used games that are traded in? Or which third party is selling these games? Does anyone know?
Amazon and Ebay. I bought a PSP game on Ebay recently and it was from NorAm.

Well, the good news is I just had a set of games accepted in record time - I just sent it in last Thursday and it was received and credited today (Weds).

The bad news:

DeBlob 1 Nintendo Wii $0.00 Returned - Damaged Item

fuck! There is no way this was "damaged" in any way unless they did it . It may not have been the mintiest of mint discs, but that's bad news for some of the others I am sending in if that's the case (besides, I think 2 of the other games they did accept were in worse shape). Of course I am now losing at least $3 on De Blob (locked in at $10, it's now $7) - and that's assuming they didn't damage it beyond ability to resend it in another trade. Plus I have to wait some interminable amout of time to get it back (still waiting since July 23rd to get my DS game with missing manual back).

Luckily I still had $60.75 in trades after removing that game so once again I'm not losing a coupon because of this (though barely, this time). I padded it with one extra game specifically in case this problem occurred - so I'm glad that paid off, anyway. However, I'm running low on games so in my newer shipments I'm going just over $60 so they better not hose me on those.

So what is the longest period of time we have to "officially" wait for a code before we can call in and ask where the hell it is? I thought I recall reading 9 days?

10 days

Thanks for that list again guys!

I already ordered Beatles RB for $39.61 shipped and Prestige Edition for ~$20(used release date delivery...may go down to ~$14 if they make RDD free). I think I'll wait to see if the X5s come out or the DJ Hero $200 bundle comes out.

Crap, I just remembered that the De Blob I sent in was a third item in a GS B2G1. It wasn't in the best shape so I specifically drove to another GS with one in stock the next day and swapped it out for a MINT disc. I also changed the case since the original was broken on one corner. So I know for a fact I sent in a mint disc and perfect case (and cover art and manual of course). Can't wait to see what the "damage" is

That really sucks. After all that time and effort put in they still screw you over. After reading all these problems people are having I'm going to skip trying to get the $30 off coupon and maybe wait for something better in the upcoming months (if they even give me credit for that other box i sent).
A bit unrelated, but I remember some people were wondering about this.

I've been asking about the DJ Hero Special Edition about once every 2 weeks on their facebook page, and I just got this message from Activision's/DJ Hero's marketing intern on facebook:

Get excited. There is something you've been waiting for coming tomorrow! I can't wait to share the news!
-DJ Hero

So yeah, get those 50% off codes ready tomorrow.
God I hope you're a hardcore DJ/Gamer...

No price as of yet, but many people suspect at least $180-200...

Just got a reply from Amazon regarding my 50% off code. Basically 3 of my items were rejected because of "missing disk", not true, got them back complete when they sent them. So I decide to try my luck and email them to see if I can still get a code even though those 3 games dropped me from about 55 to 42. The reply they sent really made it sound like any rejection disqualifies you. Would have argued if my value was over 50. Well, Im not trading to Amazon anytime soon, although many have gotten some good deals, I suppose I was one of the few that it did not work out for.

mailed items out on the 22nd, received confirmation today that I have the credit. So hopefully the 50%coupon will show up shortly, not sure what to get with it. Only thing I can think of is the call of duty presitge (sell the nvgs) or the hardend one and have cod download. Dont think Ill end up playing that at all, so may just do the regular copy
Well, I just used my 50% on a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel to be paired with my G25 (boy I'm running out of space).

Pretty good deal. Coupled with the 10% it drops down to 43.99 shipped. Not to mention, there's a $20 rebate you can fill out and a 50% off mag subscription if needed.

There's no clutch or H shifter, but no games really use this. And I hear the Force Feedback is similar if not identical to the G25. The only other difference is more plastic versus the metal on the G25. But who cares anyway, metal isn't really going to make it that much more realistic. Plus there's a PS button on the wheel whereas the G25 does not.
You had to order by the 18th to get the rebate.
Wow; all but one of my games were rejected. They are really being picky about what they are willing to accept.
Well, just for general info, what was the exact reason for rejection and what did you think their condition was?

I think we need to add to the OP all the official rejection notices and the reasons (if they can actually be determined).

Here are my two so far:

"Rejected - Missing Packaging" (DS game without manual)
"Returned - Damaged Item" (near mint copy of De Blob within a shipment of other non-minty games - no idea why until I get it back)

I believe others have actually had the word "cracked" mentioned and they did, indeed, get games with cracked discs back. We need to compile all the reasons.

Interesting they used rejected in one case and returned in the other. They better damn well be returning that first game too!

I wanted to share this at bestbuy just made my day today:

At bestbuy, I checked their clearance rack to find a bunch of new games on clearance in my local store. What 1 day of plundering gets you
All numbers are from BestBuy Price -> Amazon TIV
5x Spiderman web of shadows 360 $7.50 -> $9 Each
2x Blazblue Limited edition for PS3 $29.99 -> $39.25 Each

I needed one more game to give me enough for a 2nd $60 trade in order, so I bought
1x Infinite Undiscovery 360 $10 -> $5.50 (slight loss, but it evens out with the trade in to work out).

In all, I'm getting a 83% profit off these 2 trades which I locked in.

To note: I bought myself Blazblue Limited edition for 360 at $29.99

They also had the fallout 3 pointlookout DLC for $5
Resident Evil 5 Collectors edition for both 360 and PS3 for $30 (The PS3 version was trading in at $26.25 on amazon today. Slight loss, but may be worth it if you need something to fill a need)
Quantum of Solace Collectors for PS3 for $30
Brothers in Arms Collectors for 360 for $25

Bunch of other great stuff. Mind you, I KNOW this is YMMV per the Best Buy clearance YMMV thread, but figured I should post to motivate people to notice it more.

Good flips are hard to find, but are pretty sweet when you do.

Yeah, you'll be less thrilled if they reject one or two of those because they are "Damaged", "Cracked", or "Missing Packaging" (no matter that they were brand new when sent in).

To tell you the truth, you would have been better off selling those BB LE bundles for $70-85 on eBay and/or Amazon Marketplace...
When did the 50% coupon promo start?
It ended a while ago. People are still getting them, though, if they sent their submissions in at the very end. And the info is in the OP for those who got them but haven't decided what to buy with them yet.

I already have a few ideas lined up for the $30 codes if/when I get them. I'm thinking the Demon's Souls LE for one. Problem is, I can't sign up for ECA (it adds the membership to the cart but provides no way of purchasing it) and don't want to buy anything till I can do that!

All the items had "Rejected - Missing Packaging."

edit: One was Pokemon Gold (GBC) - it was just the cartridge
the other two were KOTOR II (XBOX) - neither had the manual

It's also helpful to tell us what types of games they were.

For example, my "Rejected - Missing Packaging" was a DS game without a manual. Yet in the same shipment they accepted a PS3 game without a manual. Go figure - well, we sort of do want to figure out how it works based on what specific things were rejected. I'm sure there's a good amount of randomness to it (different people checking the games, etc) but it does seem that they are more likely to accept GBA games and older stuff without packaging. But if you had those types of things rejected it is nice to know.
where does the 50% coupon show up in my account? The credit was added today?
You will get an email with the code in a few days. I am pretty sure that the code is not actually visible on your account.

I considered selling the Blazblue on amazon, along with the spidey web of shadows. Here's the problem with that

If I sell them for $70, after amazons commission and INCLUDING what they would give me for shipping I get $61.
61 x 2 = 122
Spidey WOS could get me maybe $14. After commission and INCLUDING what they would give me for shipping I would probably get about $8.
8 x 5 = 40

Infinite Undiscovery lets be GENEROUS and say I get $3 for it.
122 + 40 + $3 = ~$165 cash (again this is estimating on the WOS commission and this isnt counting I would lose money cause $4 of each is shipping)

Now if I do the trade in though I get

$39.25 x 2 = 78.50
$9.00 x 5 = 45
$5 x 1 = 5
------------------
128.50
+ $60 in extra trade in credit between 2 orders giving me
------------------
$183.50

Thats almost $20 more in GC and without having to pay commission or shipping. People have their own preferences if they would take the cash or the GC in this case for the difference.

For me, I'm trying to horde as much GC as I can for Black Friday as I expect some pretty decent deals to go on and I want to get the most for my money.

83% return for my time? And I'm going to be buying off amazon anyway this year? Yea, I'm cool with taking the credit.

Now stop jynxing me jackass >:[

I received my rejected DeBlob on 7/28, it had been rejected on 7/16. They put one of those irritating, residue-leaving stickers on the case that said "Manual Missing" and the disc was loose.
Cool. Keep us updated. I still need to figure out what to use my 2nd 50% coupon on :)
Lucky. I thought there was only one code per person/household. I could have gotten a second code (not that I have got my first, I am still waiting... mailed on the 18th). I'm having a hard time deciding between The Beatles: Rock Band, Ion Drumset or The Beatles Mono Box Set.

I need more 50% deals.:bouncy: Unfortunately, I'd be surprised if Amazon didn't lose tons of money on that coupon and have decided never to do it again.

Yes I know. I need the exact date to make it more clear when talking to CS reps.
Man, I'm kicking myself for missing that 50% off coupon. RB: Beatles for $125...

;_;
Minus your $50 GC, minus 10% ECA = $50. Just a little more salt for your wound...O:)

nah man. He's saying just sell the BlazBlues and put together trade-ins with the other stuff. Also, theres no reason to take big losses if you have a gamestop near you. Plenty of near 1:1 flips there. Return the Infinite Undiscovery.

jinx

who the hell came up with the name Infinite Undiscovery :booty:

I created a second account with a different address. Takes less than 5 minutes to do so ;) The 50% code is great...but i practically have everything im interested in.

I'm scared that Noram will pull out of this. I definitely think changes are coming. It seems like plenty of people are sending in 5-10 copies of specific titles. That stuff sticks out. I can't blame for taking advantage since it is allowed, but i do think we can flip in a smarter and less conspicuous way.

QUESTION: For those CAG members who traded under multiple accounts to get several of the 50% off coupons....have any of you tried shipping to the same address and just billing to a different account (i.e. gift the item, etc.)? I have an extra code that I want to use but only have 1 local address otherwise I will have to have someone mail me the order after amazon delivers it (not the end of the world considering the discount just a pain in the ass). Thanks.

I'm not sure about the toilet paper, but I got those exact same two items(or atleast some kind of blood pressure monitor) maybe a week ago in my goldbox.

My mom's account updated a couple hours ago apparently, mario kart was in there as well as a crapload of salvatore books. I buy one book out of the Drizzt series I'm missing a year ago, and then I get like 9 of the others recommended to me today. I went through her history...again?(didn't I just do this to her account two days ago? I don't get it)...and fixed it up. My own account has yet to change since noon.

At least this gold box has amused me.

I just rated the XBOX 360 Arcade system. This is on my new account i made for a 2nd 50% coupon. So I have nothing else in my purchase or ratings history. I expect the Hard Drive to show up in my Gold Box sometime soon :nottalking:

That's exactly what I did. I submitted trades under two other family members accounts from different cities. When they got their codes, I decided what I wanted them to order, figured out how much the difference was going to be, sent them an Amazon gift card from me to them to cover the difference and had them place the order with the item shipped directly to me. Doesn't appear to be a problem.

haha i got the toilet paper too in my goldbox... and i see your blood pressure monitor...

and raise you...

30 pack fertility test sticks.... and i'm a guy...:whistle2:s
