Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush
Mudkip is in the game.

After you've beaten the revised Elite 4 and Trainer Red, you go and talk to Steven Stone (a character from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald), he'll note your accomplishments and let you have your choice of a Mudkip, Torchic or Treecko.
Ah, so it'll be like Emerald with the GSC starters. That's pretty cool. Of course I have every pokemon in Diamond and will have 2 DS's so I'll be good.
Pokewalker will finally ease the pain of raising my mandatory Zubat.
A-fuckin'-greed. I just got back into my Platinum game after finishing all my crazy schoolwork for the semester and forgot I was in the middle of leveling a Zubat. I think Zubat is the one Pokemon that I really hate being patient for.

Seriously. Zubat/Golbat is always amazing for Story Mode, but until Zubat learns Wing Attack, it's simply agonizing.

I have another question for those of you who've imported.

Are you able to trade between HG/SS and D/P/P right away, or is there a FR/LG like restriction initially?

Thanks!
It sucks that Gamestop has it $5 more than Amazon and TRU.....
I think it used to be $35 at Gamestop(before they added the pokewalker & preorder bonus). I'm wondering if the others are going to bump their prices too.
It sucks that Gamestop has it $5 more than Amazon and TRU.....
That does suck. But I did put 200 hours into Diamond so whatever I spend on Soul Silver will be worth it.

Just an FYI, one of the Regional VPs of gamestop down here said on Mondays conference call with the store managers that they may have to limit pre-orders. I'm not sure if they heard from Nintendo that there are only X numbers available at launch because of the pokewalker or what.

How true this is, I don't know. He may have said this to encourage his region to really push pokemon pre-orders and use "it's going to sell out" as a marketing ploy. Or he may have been telling the truth. I couldn't say either way. But if you're interested in pre-ordering from gamestop Gold, Silver or both and want them on release date, you may want to get your pre-order in soon... because they may max out their allotted copies.

So I get to skip Gamestop completely and simply walk into any other store that sells video games on launch day because they've sold out on pre-orders? Darn :)

Isn't that standard operating procedure at GS? They'd try to convince you that "Minigames R Fun" was going to sell out and never be available again after the voluminous pre-orders were filled.

I just noticed - amazon has raised their price $5 to match Gamestop! Except they make no mention of the pre-order figurines. Hmm. Gamestop is no longer alone in price-gouging on this one.

EDIT: and further searching, I see walmart and target are also charging $40. Yesterday it was $34.99 at amazon. Dang.

Damn. I've been waiting for Soul Silver to be in my Gold box. Only Heart Gold was appearing though.

Eh, whatever. I have the gift card for GS and it's more than worth it for the hours I'm going to put into it.

We should have ordered yesterday. Oh well. Maybe, given that everybody seems to have the same price now, it's the actual retail price, then presumably due to the pokewalker gizmo.

EDIT: which, incidentally, I think is pretty clever and a cute idea. It will get my then 9 year old walking more then otherwise, and that's worth 5 extra bucks! Of course, only if I don't let him cheat! :)

Thanks for the heads up!
Where's the list? I didn't see a list on the page, but I'm sure I'm overlooking it. I really want a Pikachu colored Pichu.... Bad.
What list are you referring to? I was talking about having the preorder bonus listed already, even though it isn't Feb. 1st.

I already preordered mine from GS, mainly because I get E-rewards gift cards and this is what I am spending it on this time around. Also because I tend to forget to pre-order so doing it when I remember to do it is the best idea for me. I ordered Platinum from Amazon last time and it took like a week to come plus I didn't get the figure. I don't care about the figure as its just going to collect dust here but originally they stated Amazon would have the figures and they never did.

I wonder if these remakes will sell more than Platinum, it seems people want the remade games more than the new ones.

Walmart is the best place to buy these games if you have no bias or giftcards and your spending your own cash to get them, they usually have the best gift pack and the same retail price as any store. However they don't take preorders so it may be hard to get a copy if they are going fast.

This is weird.

Amazon is advertising a Standard version. Below on the "Frequently Bought Together" they advertise a Software Only Version for Soul Silver and Heart Gold. Also, when I kept clicking Heart Gold, it brought me to Soul Silver's page.

Sorry, I'm hopped up on cold meds and misunderstood your post being a link to the stores that would be participating in the Pichu thing.

No problem. I think the Pichu event is exclusive to Gamestop. Who knows, maybe that will change?

So I have to go to Gamestop and they give you the pichu.
Is it thur Wifi or do they trade it to you. How does it work. Is it like the Toy r us downloads.

Im happy I pre-ordered Heart Gold on Amazon they day it came out for pre order on October 31. So ill be getting it since i payed a lil extra.

Then for the pre-order stuff ill pick it up at GS. I really wanted the case but stupid GS didnt wanna go in the back and get it.

I really want the pokewalker.

I pre-ordered both copies at two different places, so I should be getting both either on or before launch day.

Lately, I've been playing my copy of Soul Silver quite a lot as it's become my main version of Pokemon now. I do all my competitive breeding on there since the new mechanics help out a lot, and the new moves for Pokemon are nice. I've also caught all but 1 available legendary (Groudon) which I'll be catching this week. Other than that, I've been running through the Battle Towers which seem to be the exact same as Platinum (I haven't encountered any differences).

I've also very excited to obtain an english Pokewalker as I've been using my Japanese one since release, though I'll only most likely use 1 of my 2 english Pokewalkers.

I think you get it through the Mystery Gift option when you start up your game. Just like at TRU.

This is probably my most anticipated game this year, but 40 just seems too much. I hope there are some deals the week of release.

Since you can't get release day delivery given it's a Sunday release, I'm going to get it in store myself. I'd rather pay the tax to get it the day of and be sure I get the figurine in good shape.
the $40 picetag is probably because of the pokewalker. :x
Which is odd considering the game released at the normal price in Japan.

Placed my order with gamestop. After their $7 off code, it came out to about $36 after tax.

I still get the figurine also so that's a plus. Only bad thing is the wait to get it since like icedrake said, deliveries aren't made on sundays.....

Newegg.com still has it for $34.99 pre-order with no tax for most people. I would have gone that route had it been for gamestops timing with the discount.
Which is odd considering the game released at the normal price in Japan.
Isn't normal price in Japan way higher than here though?

To the guy above, I would've canceled my preorder. No figure, no preorder. What are they going to tell you? "I don't know if we'll have enough copies of this blockbuster Nintendo game if you cancel...."

$7 off code? What's that?

I changed my mind and bit on the $7 off. Had $33 on my gift card so I'm paying $1.70. I think I'll still pre-order in the store so I can get it release day and will be sure to get a figure.

Icedrake, thx. I always feel weird about them b/c im 23 and lov pokemon and ppl find it creepy unless your a gamer.

Pre-ordered HG on Amazon and have a $5 off coupon need more.

Ill buy SS on Day one from somewhere, might pre-order soon, dont care about figurine just want it on day one.

cant wait

From my hands-on session at Nintendo's California office:

http://www.examiner.com/x-13269-Gam...emon-HeartGold--SoulSilver-and-the-Pokewalker

Here's the text, though if you want to support my habit, please click the link above

Examiner took up Nintendo on an invite to their Redwood City, California office to check out the soon-to-be-released Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. As enhanced remakes of the highly successful Gold and Silver titles from 10 years ago, these updates not only introduces a vast roster of characters that will be new to younger fans, but also takes advantage of the DS touch screen to make menu navigation less cumbersome and time consuming.

HeartGold and SoulSilver takes the fans back to the Johto region, specifically Ecruteak City. Inspired by the real life scenic surroundings of Kyoto, Japan, Ecruteak features tons of colorful foliage and many ancient temples, not to mention beaches and mountain regions.

Aside from the expected graphical enhancements, these titles feature the long-overdue ability to have any Pokemon party member follow the user during the exploration portion of the game. The player simply puts the desired Pokemon in the #1 slot in the party, and it will tag along next to the main character. The gamer can also turn around to talk to the Pokemon and they will even pick up items as the hero moves.

The improved menus offer detailed Pokedex info on the player's current roster of Pokemon including height, weight, type as well as its battle cry. The UI also allows for convenient dragging and dropping when it comes to collecting and trading.

In terms of actually catching Pokemon, there's an added challenge in that the games work off the DS clock and certain Pokemon will only appear at certain times of the day. Time-based triggers also extend to some non-player character interactions as well as store hours of some merchants.

So as not to alienate many DS users, HeartGold and SoulSilver do not take advantage of the unique capabilities of the DSi (though these games are obviously playable on that handheld). Yet one new and exciting feature that Nintendo is bringing to the series is the much publicized Pokewalker.

Not to be confused as a Tamagotchi-like add-on, the Pokewalker is an impressively deep gadget where Pokemon gain levels when the player is out walking. This can be used once the gamer catches their first Pokemon in the DS game (about 30 minutes into the story), after which the user transfers the Pokemon into the Pokewalker. While in the device, the Pokemon can pick through batches of grass for items as well as find wild Pokemon to battle against and hopefully catch. Players can have up to three wild Pokemon at any given time, but they're not stuck with them. If a user finds a new Pokemon they'd like to keep instead, they can switch out any of the present ones. There aren't any Pokemon exclusive to the Pokewalker, but they tend of have different stats than the ones in the DS game. Fellow fans can also connect their Pokewalkers, where their Pokemon can meet and exchange gifts, which are usually potions and berries.

Sending Pokemon back to the DS is remarkably easy, which merely involves pointing the Pokewalker at the DS and pressing a button. Another benefit to walking is the ability to build up watts, which are used in the mini games. When connecting to a DS, watts unlock new routes. Routes are used to determine what kind of Pokemon players run into. For those who like to keep track of records, all Pokewalker progress and stats are kept in a diary within the DS game.

Nintendo Assistant Manager of Product Marketing Seth McMahill acted as our guide during this visit. As a 10+ year specialist on Pokemon, Seth had much to say about HeartGold and SoulSilver. Stay tuned as we will be posting an interview with Seth later today.

Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver will be released on March 14, 2010 for the Nintendo DS and DSi. Each game will come with a Pokewalker.
