PlayStation Plus - 3 Months for $18/1 Year for $50 - 8/24: New Games for September
Amazon sends digital codes for PSN credit, no?
Nope. It's embarrassing, but I called my mom and asked if she could buy me a PSN card from somewhere and then I'd just pay her back. Hopefully she comes through. I live abroad, so sometimes getting things is difficult.

Eh such is life. At least you weren't asking her for money to buy porn. PM me some time and perhaps we could engage in some sort of PSN code trading/paypaling. I've wanted to get in on some of the Japanese content (assuming you are in Japan at the moment) but I don't want to pay the outrageous shipping costs.
Well, some CAGer in Training posted this membership on the deals section. No surprise. It's a fanboy and "not a deal" firestorm on that thread.

I think the deal is that you get 3 free months on top of the annual subscription. Just hoping that PSN cards or even membership card when available goes on sale.
What's funny about that thread is that no one realizes that this is JUST the first month of content and savings, there's going to be this month and another 14 months of savings and free games. The trick with this subscription is that they're giving you all this content, and by the end of the year... after you've gotten comfortable and happy with the content you have to pay to keep it. Plus you get new stuff later. I think that you won't really be able to tell how GOOD the deal was until after these 1st 15 months and you can look back in retrospect.

I'll probably sign up for just for that reason. I see at least $17 worth of free DLC in the first month of games that I own. Even if this is top loaded (which it probably is), I don't think that I won't get $33 worth of value in the next 14 months in DLC alone. I can see them tossing out shit for games like Pain, Zen Pinball, and Little Big Planet constantly since there is so much of that stuff out there and its stuff I never bought because it just never had enough value for me. I will however buy a costume pack for $2 or download a new bowler for free though.

Having said that, they really need to get all of their Greatest Hits games up like yesterday. Otherwise the whole "free one hour trial every month" becomes the most bullshit feature of the package.

I'm buying PSN+ just for the exclusive DLC they promise. There are so many pre-order exclusives, and special offer exclusives that I've missed over the years, if they release any of those as PSN+ bonuses, then that alone will make it worth it for me.
Its probably been answered but can't you earn trophies in the 1hr trial?
You can earn trophies and save your game BUT they won't really be 'commited' on your account unless you purchase the game. For example, if you make 4 bronze trophies, during your trial, you won't see em reflected on your profile. When you purchase the game, those 4 trophies will be unlocked automatically (and you'll be able to continue using your original save)
So are we 100% sure that the free game DLC is DLC to own? I haven't seen that anywhere just that "if you pay the discounted price for a game, it is yours to own".
from blog
Each month there will be dynamic themes, premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many will be exclusive to PlayStation Plus members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them
You know, to think, I was hoping this would also include an annual subscription to Qore.
I thought it did? Or at the very least will be added in shortly.
You know, to think, I was hoping this would also include an annual subscription to Qore.
First off, at launch, PlayStation Plus will offer subscribers the full PlayStation Network game, WipEout HD, PSP minis and PS One Classics such as Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies and Rally Cross, full game trial of inFAMOUS, as well as free monthly episodes of Qore – our high-definition, interactive gaming lifestyle show.

probably starting with the next episode july

Sorry if this has been answered, but is PSN+ gamesharable?
Do the purchases show up in the "download history" queue?

After reading a few pages of replies, I'm assuming that it is not gamesharable. Thanks.

If she doesn't come through, we can try to work out something by Paypal. If you cover paypal fees, I won't require anything on top of that. Just PM me if youre interested.

Theres a hot girl who works at my CVS so I usually make a trip down there on my day off, which is tomorrrow, and I could pick one up then.

Kotaku saved me the trouble of addng up the savings:

So Is It Worth It?
Let's assume you haven't purchased any of the games offered for free or discounted via PlayStation Plus. Adding up all of the discounts and free items, not counting the premium avatars and theme, comes to $85.85 in savings for the first month alone. Under these perfect conditions, a yearly subscription more than pays for itself. Add the new automatic download feature and the free subscription to Qore, and you've got quite a bargain.
It's linked to the PS3, only the master account can sign up, so I don't think you can share it.
Probably the auto-download and cross game chat (future) are not shareable, but regarding DLCs and theme's are shareable, avatars are not, and games depend on each individual game (it would be interesting to know if the new full-games are shareable or not). Exclusive betas tend not to be, since they usually require you to login to the account that has access to it

This is just guessing by the way!

This thread is better and more positive than the other one

Looking forward to see what the other 14 months are going to offer.

Am I correct in assuming I don't actually have to download anything? Can I just "purchase" all the $0 DLC and just leave it in my account history to download if I ever actually buy the affiliated full game (or if the affiliated full game becomes PSN+ material later?) This is of course assuming my PSN+ subscription is active at the time I want to use the content.

Yes. As long as it is in your purchase history, you can download it at any time. This works for all DLC, themes, avatars, and most demos. The only thing that you might want to download ahead of time are the full games.

Also I didn't see this is the first post but someone might want to add it.

PSN+ Auto Renews using the balance of your PSN account and (if necessary) your credit card. You can change this by going to Account Management and turning off Automatic Renewal on your Services List.

I'm going to wait until Canada Day. I want to see what the PSN Store will look like with on-demand movies and T.V. I might get a 3-month PS Plus first to see if I like it shortly thereafter.

they should add free movies and tv show rentals to this deal as well that alone would bring alot of people onboard to psn plus.

The video store isn't available in all regions so it wouldn't exactly be fair. Plus movie content providers are the worst for these kinds of things. They'll probably throw a fit.

I’m slowly warming up to subscribing, as long as the content is share-able, which you’d think is as easy as checking the terms of WipeoutHD on the PSN+ page, but maybe not. The largest block on game-sharing would actually be that if ANYONE wanted to leave the group, then you’d have to 1) make sure they de-list their console from the subscription (or else the account owner will have to call Sony & embarrass themselves by forcing all console licenses reset), and 2) you’d have to figure out pricing, so that if someone buys in, they know they may not see full or even ANY refund if they leave (in order to compensate the account owner for all their trouble).

It could be shareable, but you have to be willing to let people access your master account. I imagine many would be hesitant about that. PSN sharing is different as you're sharing on a sub-account made specifically for the share (or sharegroup). I personally wouldn't want anyone accessing my main account unless it was a family member.
It's linked to the PS3, only the master account can sign up, so I don't think you can share it.
A master account is just a regular PSN account, as opposed to the sub-accounts designed for children. It's not like the PS3 has a "master account" that is registered to it.

You can always create a new PSN account for the explicit purpose of sharing PSN+. You'd lose the ability of the automatic updates, cross-game chat and a ocuple of other perks, but you should be able to share the games and Add-ons without problems

I only game share with local friends, so I assume this would work out better for us.

I haven't bought any DLC for Cuboid or Magic Orbz, so this is already looking like a value for me. First month, 6 DLCs. Maybe a PSX game, but I don't play those too often.

thanks for posting that i had forotten that one you set them up to dl you didnt need to dl them. i went back and made sure everything , except for the infamous trial, is in my dl history so if i want to try any of it later i can.
So whatever was up last night is it for the first month? Just making sure.
That's what Sony is saying, just the once a month Playstation Plus drop. It'd have been nice if they had rolling content updates that would be good for a month (or four weeks or whatever) from the time they go up with new stuff added every week, but considering how confusing they've managed to make it by not being clear enough on how it works it's probably better that they don't needlessly complicate the situation right now.

Yeah new stuff should probably be added for ps-plus subscribers during the weekly updates. At the very least new discounts should be added every week for us, similar to xbl's deal of the week.

LittleBigPlanet would've been awesome to have on my hard drive, sucks they aren't offering it here.

its probably due to the fact that the UK pays almost double for a year than what we do in the US. from the amount of money saved from the difference, you could buy a brand new copy of the game

How can you if PSN+ has to be created on the master account?

According to the Playstation Blog post, Fieldrunners was supposed to be available at PSN+ launch as well, but it is still showing up at full price for me.

Boo, I was hoping they would at least have random weekly discounts. Doesn't have to be free stuff every week.
You know what'd get me to buy PS+? Cloud save support.
That'd be killer. I've been hoping someone would do that system-wide for years. Especially with those protected saves that you can't copy between systems. It was rumored that PS+ would have that before it was announced so hopefully there's some there there and it'll roll around eventually. Party chat as well, particularly if the parties could be joined by non-Plus users as long as they were initiated by a Plus member, as was also rumored prior to E3. Put those two in and the $50/year would be worth it to me without any games or discounts.
Also are we expecting the free three month trial to come up with the PSN update today or was that just misconstrued from the E3 press conference and the three free months is three free months... if you buy 12 months worth of the service.
It's 3 free months if you buy the first year's subscription. It's Sony we're talking about here. They're not gonna just GIVE PS3 owners something....unless it's some God awful PSN game that isn't selling for shit anyway.

Lol, Jack Tretton pulled a fast one then because he said "In addition, for a limited time we'll be offering three months free." He should have said in addition to your sub, but why be truthful? W/e, there's not enough content I'd ever care about to sub. At least we can still play online for free.
At least we can still play online for free.
For now this is true, but I have a feeling Sony is gonna lock everything down unless you buy some sort of PSN subscription. As long as I can still play my games I have(including those I downloaded from PSN like MK II and Gauntlet II), then that's all I really need.

Rag Doll Kung Fu > Yaris Racing

Rag Doll Kung Fu was a free game sponsored by Sprint and thank God I didn't pay for that game, since it was annoying. Shake your controller around to do some special moves. Yeah right. If I wanted to use motion controls, I'd buy a Wii.

I thought we were supposed to be able to keep the DLC if your subscription expires. I am getting the same message when I downloaded the Cuboid DLC that I got when I downloaded Wipeout that this content is contingent on an active subscription to PSN+.

I really don't see that happening. It would cause a huge outrage from PSN users and more importantly would eliminate their biggest advantage over XBL. It's much more likely that in the future Microsoft will drop the fee to play online on Xbox than that Sony will institute a mandatory fee for online play.

Besides, they're already getting paid on PSN. The difference is that content publishers are charged a fee for their hosted content (based on filesize or something) where as Microsoft takes that charge directly to the end user, which fits in with their general practice of soaking their customers while doing whatever they can to attract developers, preferably locking them into proprietary technology loops to keep them on Microsoft platforms.

It'd be really stupid for Sony to do that. They've set up a nice core of fundamentals so far, free online multiplayer being one of them. If they went back on that, they'd lose a major selling point.

I thought that as well. If you read the entire message it says that if you're using the DLC on a game that was free from PS+ you'll be locked out of the DLC if you let your subscription lapse. You'll have access to it again once you purchase the full version of the game or renew your subscription to get the free game back.
