PS3 FAQ's: PSN, Gaming, Hardware, Accessories, Gen. Discussions...etc.
Lighten up, Francis. Sony encourages you to use it to share games with friends.
They do, but like I said earlier, do it at your own risk if someone chooses to create a game sharing group and share the MAX number of times. I just say that because if the person who shared with many people had their console break, and chooses to re-download their game on another console they get back (same SKU though), they MIGHT be screwed (although a HDD backup shouldn't have a problem).

For me, I'll buy the games and content I really want most, and some other stuff I'd share (stuff that are not a must own to me). I'd share some stuff with 1-2 people, but that's it (since I'd want to save a share or two for myself in case of an emergency).
Does anyone at least know how to get rid of the games I've already downloaded from the download list in the Playstation store? Every demo I've downloaded just sits there on that list, and I don't see ANY way to delete them off. The list has NOTHING to do with what's actually on my system in the menu screens.
Nothing removes from the download list. Having the download list basically just keeps track of all your free stuff and paid content. Trust me, you want it because if ANYTHING gets removed from the store, it will always remain on your list. Take a look at my download list, it's insane.

Not sure which of the threads this should go in.

In this video of 2.40, you can see the date and time in the upper-right corner of the menu. Is that available now? If so, where can I go in the options to turn that on? (I looked around and didn't see the option.)
Here's a question for all.

Anyone in a 5 person group that has since upgraded their harddrive?

I want to know if replacing the HDD causes you to lose a slot in your gameshare groups. A fellow CAG recently had their PS3 die and sent it to be replaced. He was in a group with 4 others for gamesharing. When he got it back and tried to log in to redownload stuff, he couldn't. It wouldn't recognize his new PS3 as the old one.

So anyone got any info?

EDIT: Also posted in gamesharing, just need an answer ...
Answered my own question.

I just called Sony about the sharing thing. He said if basically if an account is hared 5 times and one person is unfortunate and has his/her PS3s fail then taht person is screwed. They cannot re-associate accounts. You can't rejoin the group.

Also, putting in a new HDD acts like getting a new account (basically losing a share). So like with me I'd also lose SingStar songs for good too just by upgrading, and he said I couldn't get them back that the only way would be to purchase again. The guy sounded like he didn't care either though.

Won't be upgrading my HDD anytime soon.

You sure that's the case if you backup your current HDD and then upgrade and restore the backup? I'd imagine it would count as the same share since your transferring it rather than trying to create new accounts.
You sure that's the case if you backup your current HDD and then upgrade and restore the backup? I'd imagine it would count as the same share since your transferring it rather than trying to create new accounts.
Didn't ask that as I figured I'd get a it's not kosher talk from him.

It's possible, but no one's been in this situation yet ...

The only feature I'd really like to see is the ability to access your friend list via a PC, it's nice with the 360 that you can log into it from anywhere and message friends and see what people are playing and so forth. You can't do that at all with the PS3.

A PS3 gamercard showing trophies and stuff for websites would be nice as well.
You sure that's the case if you backup your current HDD and then upgrade and restore the backup? When you just copy from the HDD, that's a little different. But in reality, I'm not too sure. I'm okay since I only shared some of my content once, and I transfered HDDs once.

Can't you just "deauthorize" a system before switching, then "reauthorize" it?

Sony keeps changing the specs, and now I'm confused. I know there's a 40 gig model. Is there a 20 gig model? What else exists?

Just to confuse you some more they have.
40GB w/ Spiderman 3 BR and Sixaxis
40GB w/o Spiderman 3 BR with Sixaxis

The discontinued 80GB bundled with Motorstorm w/ sixaxis

The new 80GB bundled with MGS4 with Dualshock 3

The yet released in America 40GB with Dualshock 3

They also have 2 40GB bundles I believe in Europe. One comes with Gran Turismo Prologue. The other with GTA4.

Let's also not forget the Ceramic White PS3 in Japan and the super special limited edition Gunmetal Gray MGS4 40 GB PS3.

ok, so i have the wireless ps3 headset. and i was playing MGO last night, and you have to press select to turn it on, and to talk. so i turned it on, and i was good, i was talking for about 10 minutes, until my friend kept saying "BC can you hear me?" then i pressed select, and the voice chat said it went off, and i could not turn it back on. i could still hear everyone, but not talk.

what is up with that?

You only need to turn voice chat on once if hold down the select button for a few seconds for the open mic. You probably had that on and turned it off again.
You only need to turn voice chat on once if hold down the select button for a few seconds for the open mic. You probably had that on and turned it off again.
but i kept trying to hold the select button after that as well. so, i kept trying to turn it on. and the "voice chat on" thing would not show up, but i could still hear people.

and, do you have to hold select to use voice, in the other online games?

Depends on the game.

You can always hear people, you just need to hold select down for a few seconds to turn on the open mic. Tapping just brings up the quick chat messages. It could also be that your radio was shot, meaning you can't chat until you respawn.

it was a match between us Casual Cags, and it was the capture bases one, deathmatch, and TDM.

even for every game, i couldn't use it. and the thing is, i died the least, and had the most kills.

200. Sony is stupid and won't stop releasing new slightly different versions. If you see a 80 or 60 gig ... at least you'll get the backwards compat.

Holy sh-t. Stupid in my opinion. I think I got the 40 GB with the Spider-Man blu-ray. Im happy with it :D How much do these differences cost them? Production on a mass scale obviously decreases costs. Do these little differences cost Sony money or are these changes (not talking about pack-ins, but the system differences) pretty insignificant?

Answer is to many!!! I HATE multi-SKU's... Plus they are changing up the guts of a few of the systems all the time too which is annoying.
Why didn't you just search Wikipedia?
Check the "Is This Game Rare?" thread. You'll see why. Ebay is a click away, yet for some reason it won't be used.
Hopefully they'll get it down to just one system.
They are trying to. Actually, the 40GB is their main SKU overall. Europe ONLY gets 40GB. Japan only gets 40GB. The U.S. was SUPPOSE to only get 40GB, but they decided to bring 80GB back as an MGS4 bundle, but it will still be limited. SCEE wants nothing to do with multiple SKUs, for an example.

Technically, Sony is sticking to one SKU, but SCEA is allowing the MGS4 80GB as a limited edition SKU (they ship it to retailers, but will never fill up retailers shelves with them). They don't want multiple SKUs, but there is a demand for the SKU.

Problem is, Sony wants the 40GB to be the main SKU because it's cheap (cost like $400 to make) and they don't really lose much on it. The problem is some want the 80GB (or something similar), but they take a larger loss on it (even unbundled) and it's priced too high to be a main SKU (many aren't willing to pay $500). Some may say, just have a 40GB with PS2 BC (like having a GS chip), but having the PS2 components (or some) is quite expensive (because it increases circuit board size, and then different PS3 components have to be used to handle higher wattage.

Too fucking many...

Hey CAGs! Been a while...got a display resolution question.

My secondary monitor I use when I play late at night is a BenQ monitor with a native resolution of 1080p. I started MGS4 yesterday and it ran fine in 1080p. Everything was nice and sharp and textures were clean. I shut it off last night and picked up the game again tonight and it looks to be outputting in 720p. It's just blurry and text isn't sharp.

In the Display settings, I hadn't changed anything and it's still connected via HDMI with only 480p and 1080p checked. This was how it was last night as well. I didn't see an resolution setting within the game, so why does it revert to 720p in the game? Thanks.
I was just reading that the 80gb may have the 65nm cell and therefore have lower power consumption and be quieter.

Anyone notice the difference?
The NEW 80GB units should. Should probably be the same as the 40GB units in terms of noise (unless they redesigned the fan system majorly). I don't have any point of reference though, as I've basically never used one before. You can hear it, but compared to the 360 it might as well be silent.

Unlike the 360, almost all the noise comes from the fan. So far it starts out quiet, and when I'm playing a game ramps up after a few minutes. I'd say it's comparable to the 360 sitting idle. A few times I've had it ramp up again past that, but it eventually drops back down.

That's in an air conditioned room though, that probably doesn't get above 80.
So anyone know if you can have more than one Network Setting for the PS3? I'd like to configure it for WEP and WPA.
I wish. I go from wired to wireless all the time and I have to manually change it. It has been requested so they should work it into an upcoming firmware.
Out of circulation: 20 GB, 60 GB

I would imagine the opposite. The 20GB and the 60GB were the only units to have both hardware and software BC.

Well been looking forward to today for awhile, my $600 check we all been waiting for finally arrived yesterday so getting a PS3 finally to add to my 360 & Nintendo Wii:D, already know my first 2 games are going to be Uncharted: Drake's Forture & Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Descruction, being a big adventure/platformer fan I know I will enjoy these and can't wait to finally try them out later today:D. Yes probably when I get paid next will pick up MGS4 & Resistance for sure, well I'm going to be getting the 40 gig PS3 (80 gig model with MGS4 is soldout everywhere in my city) so will I be able to hook it up online thru my ethernet cord like my 360?, what else should I know?...already know it dosen't play PS2 games but that is cool because I own a PS2 slim and it works fine..other than that well nice to meet you all, most likely my PSN will be either buffalo or buffalo29 if it's not taken...keep you updated...man I'm so happy to finally add the PS3 to my gaming consoles later today:):D.

Welcome to the Greatness that is PS3, ok, to answer your question, Yes, you can use an Ethernet cable, but just so you know the PS3 also has free wireless internet :D

Oh, and the 40 gb has 2 USB slots, where as the 80 has 4, and you cant put in SD cards, I agree with the poster below me, wait for the 80gb

i thought both the new models (40 & 80) dont have the card slots?

Just my opinion, but I would wait for an 80gb. Much better value and your slim PS2 isn't going to last forever. It is also nice to have only 1 system hooked up through HDMI under the TV, wireless rumble controller with upscaled PS2 games (yes it looks a lot better than the PS2's progressive scan).

Don't bend over and take the 40gb.

Well guys they had the 80 gig MGS4 bundle in stock so picked it up along with Uncharted: Drake's Forture...wow it's a shiny sexy beast and still shocked and can't believe I own the 80 gig PS3:D:D...well guys off to play what I heard so many great things about MGS4:):D.
