What's the consensus on Danganronpa? Worth it for $20 if I'm not familiar with the source material but want a game like 999?
Awesome game. Comes nowhere near close to 999, but it's still a hell of a game. It's more a mix of 999 and Phoenix Wright. You investigate events, and then find the culprit through cross examinations. Just keep paying attention during the examination sequences because they add two or three new mechanics after every case and it's easy to get inundated with all the new stuff being thrown at you.

$20 is really good price for it. I doubt the physical version will drop any further until Black Friday or a few weeks after Danganronpa 2 comes out on Tuesday.

So it looks like they got rid of the $1.99 vita PS all star DLC pack with Isaac, Zeus, and the Medevil map, at least I can't find it on the PSN store anymore. glad I went ahead and bought it when I bought PS all stars for $5.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/08/27/introducing-desert-ashes-on-ps-vita/

Desert Ashes is coming to Vita/PS TV later this year, which is a free-to-play Advanced Wars-style strategy game with three SP campaigns and online/local MP.

Next month's PS+ selection is awful. I'm not going to even bother downloading any of it. Maybe (maybe) Sportsfriends since I read a few flattering things. Not mad though since I can't even think of anything I would've wanted. I do think it was a missed opportunity to promote Far Cry, though.

you knew they had to start putting fighters back on the  VITA PSN side

too bad hoard wasnt a vita game maybe joe danager  but mostly  Nothing at all  this month.     pure  crap

It's strange how picky people are about the games in a service that costs ~$4 a month (and that's if you didn't get some kind of deal).

Especially considering that all the games on offering this month (and most months) have been well received, so it's not like they're giving away bad games. And two of the games are being given away on release even.

Odder still is that if they put TxK and Velocity 2x on sale for, say, $3 each... tons of people would go 'hhmmm, ok i heard good things about them so I'll pick them up'. Instead, we get them along with 4 other games for only $4 (or even $2ish) and people complain. It's... odd. Really odd.

I honestly don't think that the list is very good for next month, except the addition of Velocity 2X (on release day, no less!), which makes up for everything else for me.  The first game was fantastic and I was greatly looking forward to the sequel (and by "greatly looking forward to," I mean "I was going to buy it once it became 75% off or free on PS+ :)

I have no interest in TxK, maybe I'll finally get around to playing a Joe Danger game (it seems like it will "feel right" on Vita), Sportsfriends doesn't interest me since I usually play games alone, and I already platted PSAB on Vita.

Hoard comes out of nowhere- the demo for it was pretty fun when I played it almost four frickin' years ago.  With the enormity of PS3's library, I'm surprised they aren't giving away a more recently-released digital game like they usually do.

But, hey, free is free, so I will add each of them to my download list like I do every month. (I SERIOUSLY can't believe everyone, and certainly everyone in THIS THREAD, doesn't "purchase" every free game every month regardless of their interest in the game... seems crazy to me).

y u no like Velocity X2?!?

Also if you haven't played Joe Danger it's a ton of fun.

You find it strange that people have different tastes than you? None of these games interest me and I wouldn't have bought them so I "saved" nothing. I own PSABR and don't like it. No biggie, some months are better than others.

I realize everyone's different, but I honestly have a hard time imagining someone that loves Velocity not at least digging TxK. I mean, they're technically different genres but ultimately they're both excellent, top-notch arcady/twitch score attack games with a lot of similarities in challenge, skill sets required, etc.

It's really good, and I'd say it's one of the best games I've played this year. "Phoenix Wright meets Saw" as I usually say. It's not really a puzzle game in the way 999 is, more like Law and Order or something of that nature.

No, I don't find it strange that people have different tastes. But there's a difference between stating that and claiming that the games are bad or not worth the price of the service as several comments (such as the ones on the PS Blog) seem to imply.

And on top of that, there's several people that seem to not even want to give most of these games a chance. I think a lot of people think they want something like Knack or Killzone, but they would actually have more fun with some of these games if they just gave them a chance.

Gotta agree.

I'm not normally one to complain, and this is probably the first time I've bashed a month's PS+ offerings, but this is the least interested I've been in the freebies since I initially subbed in May 2012. PSABR is a good choice, but it was just on sale last month for cheap, and I bought it then. Good addition for those who passed on the sale though. And then there's the Velocity series, whose other entries were already offered in PS+ and I played about 30 minutes of each before losing interest... Joe Danger already has an entry in PS+ as well, which was fun, but I didn't play that one for more than maybe half an hour, too. Everyone has different tastes though, so I'm sure those'll be good games for some people.

Hoard is a pretty good game, if I remember correctly from playing it on PC a couple of years ago. Keeping my hopes up for Sportsfriends as well.

Having watched numerous let's plays of sportsfriends, I for one am excited. As for everything else...some months are highs and others are lows.

Yeah Sony has got to find a better way of labeling their prices. I've seen at least a half-dozen comments where people have said "oh it's only 10% off I'll wait for a better sale" when games are anywhere from 30%-50% off their normal prices.
I know I thought that exact thing. I see the 10% marker and the crossed out price and don't even think about whether the crossed out price was full price or discount. Still I'll wait on this week's sale as I feel I can do better than 33% off at some point in the future.

I'm not gung ho with September's free games but I'll download them all.

Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am hoping for some PSASBR DLC sale.  I'm missing one stage-the one that I guess didn't go on sale recently.

Terrible month for plus.

Well at least the past two months were decent.

I really do hate this indie campaign Sony is shoving down PS4 owners' throats because of the lack of traditional games.

Not my cup of tea at all.

But what, realistically, do you expect them to do? If they didn't give out anything at all, people would bitch. All the AAA "traditional" games aren't out yet.

I seriously do not understand this complaint from people. Systems have very few big games out at launch, or even in the first year, and you want them to give them to you for free? WTF is the point?

Honestly, how many times are they going to remake the damn game? I'm being facetious but I seriously doubt this "sequel" will grab me any more than the three versions of Velocity I own.

As for Joe Danger...whomp... played it on PS3. Didn't like it. Which is crazy since No Man's Sky is being positioned as this industry shifting thing. That'll sure be the biggest quantum leap in quality I have ever seen.

I am sad by your tastes in games right now, but to each their own I guess.

I don't blame them on the PS4 front. There aren't many PS4 games and the few that there are still have some sale value. Thats all understandable I think. And even for Vita, I'll take what I can get.

The part that has me disappointed is the PS3 games. There is such a huge catalog of great games to choose from. If you're not gonna give us a solid PS4 lineup, then give us some great PS3 picks and I feel like they've done that the last few months. All-Stars is an okay game I guess (which they put on sale for $5 some time ago and I picked it up so thats kinda lame) and Hoard is a pretty forgettable indie game IMO.

I'm disappointed but I have a huge backlog of games as it is (and much of it is because of PS+ in the first place) and with Destiny coming out soon I have too much on my plate to really be that upset lol. Hopefully next month is much better.

You know what really grinds my gears? That the never, ever, ever put the Gravity Rush DLC on sale. I want to 100% the game. And put Kat in a maid outfit. But not at their asking price.

Thanks for all the great games to celebrate my birthday month Sony! Don't be offended if I just keep playing Front Mission 3 instead. Kthxbye.

I want to put her in a maids outfit and make her play golf. Whole different fetish though.

Given no other choice, I'd have paid $50 for Velocity 2x and TxK ($25 each).    I loved Velocity but got it free through plus, so never had a chance to really 'pay' the devs (yes, i know they make some from ps+).   And TxK is a contender for my favorite vita game.    Now, obviously, neither game (thankfully) was ever $25... but that's not the point.  Value is the point.   Both of those games are f'in brilliant, and it straight up pains me to see people who 'won't even download' them because they're crap/indies/whatever.

Many of the best games of all time (from robotron to pacman to tetris to whatever else floats your boat) still hold up today because they understood gameplay trumps all.

I realize not everyone likes every genre.  If we got a month full of platformers and fighting games I'd have nothing I'd want.  But I don't call those games shit, or refuse to download them, or freak out that I paid a whopping $2 for some platformers I'll never play (plus access to sales, etc).   Hell, I downloaded Fez and so far am pleasantly surprised.   Metrico wasn't my thing but I accept it's a good game (for the most part) and that people like Tyler loved it.

Heck, I probably got my year's value out of ps+ by... feburary? March?  Certainly months ago, to the point that right now getting something like V2X day 1 is like a big bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream with cherries on top.

Not every month will be for you.   In fact, if they put up only games you really wanted, that just makes it all the more likely you've probably already bought them at some point.

It's only $2-4 dollars a month, people.   And we get 6 games a month -- 7 this month if you include Don't Starve vita, several of them cross buy.

I realize some people want their ps4 pushing next gen graphics.  Great.  But the system isn't even a year old, and it takes time to not only design new games, but entirely new engines to support the new systems.   Rushing AAA games for launch rarely works out well.   We should be thankful that 'indies' and other smaller games fill in the launch gaps.

Hell, we should be thankful we have so many games in our hands (and backlogs).  Some of those games represent the life blood of small groups of people that love gaming so much they decided to create a dev team and put a game out.   Cussing them off for being 'indie' and dismissing them outright is truly disrespectful and downright ugly.

I'll take a brilliant game like TxK, or velocity, or a port of a brilliant game like Frozen Synapse or an original dual stick shooter (son of scoregasm) from charlie's games over most retail games.   Sure, there are masterpieces like Demon's Souls and TLOU and Uncharted 2... but there are just as many clunkers (homefront, legendary, brink, etc).   AAA doesn't mean good, and 'indie' doesn't mean bad.

affa, stop trying to make TxK happen. It's not gonna happen.

And here we go. Indie defense force on the scene. Sorry but I can't be guilted into liking a game simply because someone made it in their dorm room.

That said, I don't have a problem with them. Give me Terraria and Road Not Taken over Crysis 3 any day. I already played two of the PAX-sale indies (CoL & Transistor) and have spoken about them here. Indie doesn't have to be trite garbage, which unfortunately is how I feel about some of the stuff that gets thrown at PS+.

September's games just don't interest some of us. Big deal. Sony likely wasted millions on PSABR and you don't see anyone giddy to play that. On good months I'm just as vocal.

I'm giddy to play it, but I already own it. If it hadn't been cross-buy I'd have bought it twice. It's really fun.

I've noticed that DLC in general doesn't go on sale as often as it used to, especially with games that were PS+ titles.

Thanks for pointing this out. For some reason I thought TxK was a fighting game, which very rarely interest me at all. After watching a bit of gameplay footage of the actual game, I might have to give it a shot sometime after I download it!

Point is that there is a retail title and people are still unhappy. So it's not just a AAA vs indie thing, though that's part of it. At the end of the day people want good and interesting games (I hope).

I own PSABR. Not a bad game. Polished and mechanically sound (except for the special-to-win). All the parts are there, just never came together for me. I think it would have worked better as a 3D arena style brawler like Power Stone. Or even something like Injustice with lots of environmental destruction. People always say it just needed better characters and while that's true, who else could Sony have brought in? Crash and Spyro? I just don't think Sony's characters fit that goofy Smash style of play. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. I might jump back on vita.

One thing I'll say about PSABR is that the stages are awesome.

If you're really not that interested, then don't download them, I promise your $4 will be made up in one of the four sales they have next month.

I had no interest in Stick it to the Man.  I played it, I thought it was clever, and I thought it was neat how it looked like there was a shoebox dioramma (remember those from elementary school? lol) in my TV.  It's a neat take on the adventure game genre, and I don't like adventure games.

But I wouldn't have learned any of that if I hadn't downloaded it because of the mentality "this month's offerings are crap."

Remember friends, Sony never had to give us free games.  They chose to do it.

Love to know where your getting the PSN+ for 24 bucks a year (you said 2 to 4 bucks a month ) so take the low end

What? If we were face to face I'd say the same exact thing. Also, assuming this was in part directed at me:

- These games aren't "free". I repeat, PS+ is not free. And Sony is not Robin Hood.
- My time is more valuable than money.
- I already said I wouldn't download them so that solves that.
- Stick It To The Man is awesome. Reminds me of 90s Nickelodeon cartoons.
- I don't need to "try" next month's games as I've either played their spiritual predecessors or ports on other devices. Pretty sure my impression of them won't change and that's okay! Opinions.
- If people aren't allowed to express dissatisfaction then the adulation should cease as well. Goes both ways. :)

I can see why some are disappointed in next months games, but they aren't horrible.  I imagine though now that GWG is directly competing with them, they will be saving the big name titles for Nov / Dec for their promotional materials to hype it up... at least I hope so :)

I think you are right.

Although, I worry that PS+ might change for the worse (value wise) now that it is necessary for multiplayer. That said, if you own a PS4/PS3/VITA you are getting a lot of bang for your buck but then again I am not one who pays for PS+ only for the free games (they are a wonderful bonus).

Nothing was directed at anyone in particular.  I was being general.  I'm just positively floored that people complain about getting stuff for free.  It's like being offered free pizza and crying "I don't like pepperoni!"

With regard to breakfuss' specific points:

  • You're paying for playstation plus, *not* the games, which makes them "free" by that definition.  Stop being pedantic.  Xbox LIVE didn't do free games until months or a year after Sony was doing them.  MS only recently started doing two games per month.  It was one game per month previously, and those games weren't very good.  With the Xbox's considerable library, there is no reason to offer Crackdown or Gears of War 1 while Sony is offering Bioshock Infinite (not the same months, but you catch my meaning).
  • Your opinion of a game notwithstanding, I find it unnecessary to call a selection of "free" or "fringe benefit" games trash when they are objectively good, fun games.
  • You're certainly allowed to express dissatisfaction, as much as I'm alowed to express my dissatisfaction of people bitching over freebies.
  • You're posting in a thread about PSN Weekly Deals.  If you want to say "that's not cheap enough" because Child of Light is $13 instead of $10, fine.  But free is free, regardless of the source.

With regard to expressing dissatisfaction and adulation: I'm really only interested in one of the six games (since I don't have a Vita), but I don't bitch about the selection because Sony doesn't care, it's annoying to your fellow forum-goers, and there's always next month :)

Expressing dissatisfaction or disinterest is fine. I think the problem arises when people start to claim that the selection of games is bad or worthless simply because they aren't interested/haven't heard of the games/the games aren't AAA budgeted. For instance, there are people out there who seem to think Sportsfriends is some kind of joke, when in reality it's a very well regarded game by those that have actually played it. There's similar complaints about the other games too. Many people are dismissing the games outright with no interest in giving them a second glance.

Even when there are games that I'm not interested in for whatever reason, I can still step back and look at the quality and value of the games and say "hey, even though there's nothing for me, that's still a pretty good month for people that are interested."

This is fine too. People are entitled to like whatever they want and that's okay. The vast majority of the population will never watch an art house film or indie movie but these very same people will tune in to watch their favorite sporting event, reality TV or summer blockbuster. Such is life.
