Sorry man. My grandpa had cancer and died surrounded my all of us in the hospital room and it's definitely a surreal experience to say the least.

Yeah, it feels really weird to be so excited for the PS5 one minute, and then emotionally destroyed the next. My mom hasn't stopped crying since we left the hospital. My grandmother had a stroke, and hit her head on a counter, giving her brain damage, and then while she was in a coma, she had a heart attack, and then another stroke. Then her brain started to swell and bleed, and then she had an aneurysm and died.
 
Frankly even with a PS5 pre-order I feel this one the weakest launch lineups in a while. So much is cross gen (Miles, Sackboy) which leaves the exclusives as Playroom (not for me but free at least), Demon's Souls (good but niche), and Destruction whatever (yeah....). We get the old stalwarts from Ubi as well as CoD, and Cyberpunk 2077 is close enough to launch as well (getting on PC). Still yeah don't be that disappointed if you didn't get one. I planned for this in budget for a while though, and will enjoy Demon's Souls, but yeah this isn't too amazing. Just my opinions of course.

Yea, it's pretty weak. But given the pandemic, I'm also not surprised. But I disagree that Demon's Souls is niche. Soulsborne game aren't really niche any more. Bloodborne sold 2 million copies in the first 5 months. Demon's Souls is closer to Bloodborne than Dark Souls.

I never attempted to preorder anything before and I'm bummed that my PS5 preorder didn't work.

Life is too short to not splurge on ourselves and have nice things.

Which retailer do you feel is most reliable for PS5 preorders to keep the order and deliver on release day? Walmart, Target or Amazon?
 
Back in the year 2000, I bought a PS2 on launch specifically to play Armored Core 2... Fast forward 20 years; I'm buying a PS5 on launch specifically to play Demon's Souls... (Originally) a From Software title. The more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess.

Anyway, I feel like this launch lineup is easily the strongest Sony has ever had in my evaluation specifically because of the PS+ Collection and Demon's Souls.

I really hope that the PS+ Collection games have special PS5 profiles to make them run better. Give me that and I will be busy well into 2021.

UPDATE: A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.

In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

if you have prime, amazon. i really question release date delivery from walmart and target. i dont think we will see many cancellations because it seems like walmart and target handled this whole thing better than anyone else.

UPDATE: A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.
We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.
In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

That's awesome! Hopefully all the ps2 classics and basically everything that works on my PS4 works on the PS5. I'm sure PS Now can fill in the gaps of any PS3 games that I would ever want to revisit that weren't remastered for PS4.

I genuinely think they have a hard time with ps3 games because of the architecture of that system. Isn't it still difficult to emulate PS3 games on high end PCs today? But ps2 and ps1 should work, at least digitally. No excuse for that.
 
I worked for THQ back in like 2005-2009, and I remember I was asked to help port Saints Row to PS3 from 360.  The architecture was so fucking trash with the PS3, they ended up scrapping the project.  So many issues developing on PS3 they just gave up lol.

 
I didn't believe for a second they would be dumb enough to strand a couch co-op game like Sackboy on a new console where every player would need an additional $70 controller.

 
PS3 might be the justifiable edge case, but PS1 emulators are not only ubiquitous, but they've already written them before for other systems. Same with PS2.

You think PS5 has a strong launch lineup because you'll be able to play games you can already play on current systems? If they were releasing Demon's Souls 2, I can see why you'd feel that way, though personally I'd still balk at dropping half a grand to play one game. Even after all these years, I'm still astonished at how good the Dreamcast launch lineup was. It just had the unfortunate luck of going up against the most successful console in history.

I have bought pretty much every system too and I have regrets.

Wii U - I have maybe used the machine under 100 hours and most of the games are now on switch.

Xbox One Day One Edition - I played Wik, Peggle 2 and a couple other things until later it got sold and the funds used for a Xbox One X.

Xbox 360 at launch - While this was my primary system, it had RROD 6 months in, Microsoft sent me a refurb of the lower model that smelled like smoke, after I complained they sent me another refurb that would RROD once in a while, but would fix after being off a couple minutes. Eventually traded it in for a Piano Black Ultimate which I still have.

PS3 60GB - Regretted it until about 2009 where the good games started to hit. It would eventually YLOD, but I got a Slim, the good one not the manual door one and I still have it. If I'd have waited until 2009 I could have got the Slim at about half the cost.

I don't regret:

Wii, Switch, New 3DS - Cheap entry and use them all a lot, well the Wii is pretty much in a closet now, but it got its use.

PS4 - Main gaming console until last year

PS4 Pro - Best version of Sony exclusives

Xbox One X - It's now my primary gaming machine thanks to Game Pass

Launches are notoriously shitty and I don't consider Demon's Souls to be a "game I can play on other platforms." It's a remake and it's clear from the trailers that the mechanics are different enough to make it feel significantly new. From Software games aren't everyone's cup of tea, but for those of us who love them, Demon's Souls remake is a killer app.

Past that, I am looking forward to the pack-in, the new controller experience, and the PS5 basically functioning as a PS4 Pro.

People seem to be forgetting that PS5 and Xbox Series X are getting the superior versions of a lot of Ubisoft games and other games day one, right out of the box. And, that other games like a lot of the free to play games will have day one patches to make them look and play better on the newer consoles. So, yes. You can play these games on 7 year old hardware, or you can play them on brand new hardware with better framerates and load times making them feel like brand new games. Even some games that just recently came out, like the Kingdoms of Amalur remaster are said to be getting patches that make them run and look better on the new consoles. And, if you are a fan of looter shooters like Destiny 2, The Division 2, or even Anthem (God forbid), they will all be getting patches to make themselves run and look as if they were developed specifically for the newest consoles.

There's a reason I don't have Amazon Prime anymore, as it was awful for release day consoles and games. They screwed me out of getting me my PS4 at launch, so it didn't arrive until two days later after complaining to them over the phone. I'm at the end of their delivery driver's route, so I would get stuff at the end of the day (8-9 PM) instead of at a reasonable delivery hour so I could actually use it before going to bed. That got me to go to Best Buy for all of my games and hardware from then on. Don't have much experience with Walmart or Target for launch hardware, but I'd get occasional Switch games for $10 off on the day of launch at Walmart.

 
I just hope that Target does what they did when I pre-ordered a PS4 Pro. And, I get the console like three or four days before it goes on sale in stores.

Yeah I don't get why anyone would say amazon. Not unless you pay for shipping and even then I would still expect it to be slow.

 
I was pretty much expecting that there wouldn't be any pre-PS4 BC on PS5, which stinks.  At least I can play most PS1 stuff on my hacked PSTV, and I'm working on soft modding my PS2 slim and fat to play games off network share/hard drive.

I guess I have got lucky in the past then? got my launch ps4 on release day and now that they deliver 95% of their orders with amazon drivers amazon is the only place i dont have shipping problems with.

Yeah I got my PS4 on launch day and more recently the animal crossing switch on day of release from Amazon. I've had pretty good luck but that was when they'd use UPS. Their own delivery people can be a bit all over the place so it's a crapshoot.
 
It's interesting to hear you guys say Amazon uses their own people for delivery.  I'd say 98% of my orders come through USPS with the other 2% through UPS.  I almost never have problems getting things from Amazon, my only real issue is the way they seem to want to pack everything in envelopes instead of boxes with sufficient packing.  I can't tell you how many books I've received with bent covers or games where the disc was loose...  But then, the loose disc thing happens with stuff I order from Bestbuy and Target too as they are the same way with their packing.  :(

Crazy, I'd say 95%+ come from Amazon drivers for me
 
A neighbor on my street gets stuff from Amazon every day. They seem to deliver pretty fast, whatever she is buying.
 
Yeah seems amazon are speeding up delivery, usually be at least 2 weeks or so on standared which the last time was before covid. Now my latest purchase on weds is arriving Tues earlier then usual.
 
Yeah, here in Peoria AZ almost all my packages come in the big gray Amazon Mercedes delivery vans.  Some small items have come USPS, but that seems rare.

Amazon Prime delivery vans have started to show up in my neck of the woods. It's been USPS for the longest time for us, but that seems poised to change.

 
90% of my deliveries are Amazon. It usually depends on the size and weight of stuff. I'm sure they calculate all that to determine whom they use to ship.
